Grabbing a bite to eat at The Madras Cafe has been on my to-do list for awhile. I love traditional Indian food like so going to a strictly vegetarian restaurant was a bit outside of my comfort zone. I'm very pleased to say that I enjoy everything I ordered. When I arrived, I asked my server Fernandes for his recommendations and he said the Chana Bhatura would be a good choice because I like Chicken Tikki Masala. It was a really great choice, absolutely delicious!!! The chickpeas were tender and juicy and the sauce was excellent. I also enjoyed the Vegetable Samosa and Rasam (spicy and very flavorful.) Went for dinner when we were in Orlando. Was excited to see the many jain options, but didn't enjoy the food as much. Gobi manchurian was lacking flavor and was too burnt / crispy. The malai kofta had manchurian balls as the koftas. Paneer makhani was good but a bit tangy. Mango lassi was nice and sweet. The naan didn't look like a traditional made naan -- looked more ready made. Would recommend trying the South Indian food instead! Wish we'd tried that instead! Wow! This is far and away the best use of this restaurant space ever. It retains its former upscale decor, but brings an all new menu and cuisine to the area. Affiliated with the nearby Saffron Indian Restaurant, but this restaurant is Southern Indian, and entirely vegetarian, or even vegan if you wish. The lunch "table side buffet" is actually a traditional Thali, a tray with an assortment of soups and stews, a bowl of rice, and a variety of breads for dipping. It is easily the best Indian lunch deal in town, and arguably one of the best lunches in town. I'm a fan of lunch at Saffron, and I wasn't sure this would be that different, but it is quite distinct, and deserves its own separate recognition as a best Indian food winner. read more

I've been here before during Covid but ordered out and I didn't know what any of the names were but every single sauce was so remarkably delicious. This time around I had to return with family and we had so many items that I wish I remembered what they were. The ambiance was beautiful and chill and had a nice candlelight dim light for the evening. The wait was very long once we were seated but besides that the waiter took his time to answer all I'd my sisters questions on the menu as we tried as many things as possible. I had the eggplant with rice and it was so delicious and tasty. It was my favorite dish out of everything we tried. I truly enjoyed all the flavors. There was minor spice when I said mild which I can appreciate because some Indian places I have been to have been almost unbearable heat with the spice but this place allows you to enjoy the amazing spices they use without the over powering heat. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy Indian food. It's so delicious. They also offer Thai inspired dishes as well. I'll definitely return soon. read more

Third time visiting here in the last 10 months. Once again we were not disappointed. We each enjoyed the lunch Thali (though we probably should have shared one since it had more food than we anticipated). The flavors are amazing. The variety of breads, soups and small dishes was great. Flavorful only begins to describe the tastes. Our server, Fernandes, did a fabulous job. He was attentive and answered our questions without making us feel like we were bothering him. Our previous waiter, Ronald, even remembered us from last year and came to say hello. A pure Veg Indian Restaurant in Dr. Phillips area was much needed. It was opened in place of Rasa. Its the same owner, but a new concept. Although I miss the schezwan momos that Rasa offered before...I love the concept of Veg Thali more . If you are an Indian or someone who loves Indian food, would know how much we enjoy the typical "Thali" style food. Me and my husband we went there right when phase one of covid opened. Restaurants were open with 25 % capacity. Since then, we have been there couple of times and also ordered to-go. Ofcourse they can't offer buffet now, so they are doing the table side buffet. Which I personally think is much better than actual buffet. They follow all the protocols, everyone wears masks and gloves, and the place is clean. We also took my elderly parents for dinner to celebrate my mothers birthday. They have a private seating area for 8-10 people. We reserved that. Now coming to the food...honestly it is difficult to finish everything from the thali. But the food is delicious. I have tried there South Indian Thali and Bahubali Thali. Most of the items are same...I think you get some extra items on Bahubali Thali. In indo Chinese, the Hakka noodles and Shezwan Noodles are yummy. This thali (a lunch platter/box) was large and tasty- you can see from the image that it included multiple veg curries a dosa (rice and dal/lentils fermented into a batter that is then pan fried into a thin-crepe-like pancake), pouri (small/midsized bread that is fried - a bit smaller than batura but similar), pekora (chickpea flower and spices deep fried as batter on onion pieces) and dessert. We ordered take-out based on positive reviews however the place was a total let down. Poori sabzi and their white chutney was quite decent- not the best but surely not bad. The idlis and vadas below average again not too bad. The mysore masala dosa was horrible filled with a chunky onions, had no spicy spread as indicated in the menu. For a South Indian restaurant, their sambar was absolutely disastrous, tasted like a child's first attempt at a tomato soup. Most of the food ended up in trash. We were seated as soon as we entered and greeted by the server. By browsing through the menu we decided to order Veg Manchurian and Bahubali Thali. We first got veg Manchurian. I ordered Daal Tadka, which was different from what I'm used to, so I fixed it by adding some salt. Samosas were good. However, their Gobi Manchuarian is the true king of it all. It's to kill for, or at least to bite. Seriously, it's scrumptious, full of flavors, I can't say enough. We had some that night and came back for it the next day to take for the road. The service was great! We got our food very quickly! Ordered the paper masala dosa and Hakka noodles. The dosa was gigantic and took up our entire table but light weight and easy to finish between 2 people. The paper dosa comes with the potato filling on the side so it's kind of like a deconstructed dosa that you can make your own. Overall the dosa was a great texture, thin and crispy but bit greasy. Wished the filling has more flavor or spice but maybe it's more mild to cater to tourists who may not be able to handle spice. The sambar was good. The coconut chutney was not the best. The Hakka noodles again were mild and would have been great to get a sauce on the side to add spice or flavor. But overall well cooked and a good noodle dish. We also got the chiku milkshake which was delicious! As well as the Falooda drink with vanilla ice cream as I think they were out of pistachio kulfi that we originally wanted. Over all would try again and maybe ask for more spice next time. The restaurant it self was nice for a quick bite and pretty busy for a random Sunday evening.
