An extremely disappointing experience, or should I say lack of experience. I had been planning a very special night out with my 5 year old niece for over a month and she was so excited to try fondue for the very first time. I thought about making a reservation, but when you're going with a 5 year old time can be tricky. So, instead I went extra early to make sure we could get a table. We arrived at 5:15 pm. We skipped in the door. "Fondue for two please!" And immediately we were met with an ask for our reservation. It was 5:15 pm. The parking garage was empty. We didn't have a reservation. And to my complete surprise we were told that they were not taking walk-ins. Or in our case, skip-ins. To say my niece was disappointed was an understatement. I sat down in the lobby looking for another restaurant to go to and was told that I could call the Arlington location and drive 30 minutes away. With a 5 year old? No thanks. I informed the front of house staff that the website, which I had been frequenting for weeks showing my niece all the food, should inform you that a reservation is necessary. They told me "just tonight we can't serve you." Then, who I believe to be the manager came out, "are you the walk-in sir?" Oh great! Maybe the manager can come up with a solution. After informing her that we were she told me "I'm sorry, but we can't serve you tonight." Um, okay? Why did you even bother coming out just to rub salt in the wounds? You can clearly see that I'm sitting here in your lobby with a very upset little girl. Read the room. As we walked back to our car around the back of the restaurant a member of the Melting Pot staff was outside on a smoke break and it was clearly weed. Revising my review to 3 stars as one of the managers reached out to talk to me about my experience the next day to talk more about the events of my visit. She described the steps that will be taken to address the feedback from my review and I think that it will have a positive impact to improve the experiences for future diners. -Matt I have been to the melting pot many times in the past but this was my first visit post Covid and I have to say that the every aspect of the service level of this place has gone way down. Despite the table that we were sat at being empty from when we got there and 5 employees hanging out at the server station it took over 20 minutes to get us seated. During which I was able to watch them keep a person on the phone on hold for 3-4 minutes while 3 of them argue over who would read a pre written description of what the birthday package included to the person waiting on the phone since none of them wanted to do it. Once we did get seated we had pretty much issues with every course of the meal. When they put the cheese course down and had it all ready to go for us we had to point out to our server that we could not start our meal since they had not given us our fondue sticks which they then had to go get. As my family had been to the melting pot before we knew what dippers we like the most and so asked for additional pretzels and apples as the cheese course was being served to us. These items we asked for never came out and when the server came to pick up the cheese course commented on how we had left some of the cheese behind at which point we said that was because you never brought out the extras we asked for. The salad course did not get screwed up but it did take a long time to get out to us. When the entree was served again I asked for additional items (mushrooms and potatoes) at the very beginning of the course as it is items I know my family likes. Here again we had trouble with getting these as I had to ask 3 times before they showed up almost 2/3 way through the course. My son who asked for a refill on his soda half way through the entree course finally received it after we had finished our dessert course. With the dessert course the server brought out the chocolate but forgot the items to do the flambé part which took about 10 minutes to retrieve. This time we only had to ask the one time for the extra dippers we wanted, but again these took forever to come out. When we finally done with the meal and had sat there for about 10 minutes I had to go hunt down our server in the restaurant to get our bill so we could pay and finally get out of the restaurant. Overall this meal took over 3 hours to complete due to all the delays and slow service making this bad experience last way longer then it should have. For the money that they charge for this meal it is absolutely not worth it, and there are many better high end restaurants in the area I would recommend taking your family to as this place is no longer one I would call a high end restaurant due to the level of service they provide. read more

What a lovely evening! If you are looking for a location for a special occasion, look no further than Melting Pot in Reston. This is our second year attending Melting Pot's Valentine's Day event. My husband and I both thought it was a very well put together celebratory dinner. We felt thoroughly spoiled. Our service was 5 star. Our server, Jocelyn, was amazing in every way. Not only we she prompt and thorough in her course explanations, she made the meal an experience. The manager checked in with us on a few times during the meal. It is clear they take care to provide the best dining experience they can. The meal itself was perfect. We started with the Loaded Baked Potato Cheese fondue. It was delicious! The accompaniments were perfect! Next, Shrimp in the shape of a heart were served. They were delicious and cute. Our entree consisted of Cold water lobster tail, a beef tenderloin, a sirloin, shrimp, chicken and a wild mushroom sacchetti. Everything was prepared in the Coq au vin. It was absolutely wonderful! I was getting pretty full and worried if I would make it to dessert. The dessert course was the highlight of the meal! It was fun to watch the dessert being prepared. We chose the Bananas Foster Fondue. The server added the various ingredients and set it aflame. The sparks of the cinnamon were a sight to behold. It smelled amazing and it tasted amazing. This is a fun place to come for some dessert. We order the milk chocolate fondue that comes with pound cake, brownies, blondies, rice crispies, and two different types of marshmallows. They also bring strawberries, bananas and pineapples. They bring more of whatever you request until your chocolate is finished. The cheese fondue was also good and came with 3 different types of bread, apples, celery, bite size pickles and small marinated red peppers. We added a plate of premium meats for $5 that came with 4 different types of meat including prosciutto and salami and 2 other dried cured meats. We ordered a sangria but we didn't like it. A really fun experience, but not something I'd do very often. My wife and I headed over to celebrate our anniversary. It was a week night, so not busy and the staff was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was nice, intimate and fairly well-appointed in a chain-restaurant sort of way. Think maybe two steps up from Olive Garden. The menu was a bit confusing but we wanted to try as much as possible, so we did the full 4-course deal with 4 entree options a piece. We both ordered a cocktail and they were fine. A bit pricey and nothing to write home about but that's expected. The food was, across the board, quite nice. The flavors and seasoning were solid, the variety and portions were fantastic. We loved sharing everything, trying out the 6 different dipping sauces and generally enjoying some interactivity with our dinner. It was perfect for the occasion. I love this place! I've been to The Melting Pot several times now and my past few times I used a Groupon. I always call and make a reservation and the front desk girl was very helpful and accommodating when I mentioned the Groupon. Our server was very kind and friendly. He knew right away what was included in our Groupon (cheese fondue, salads, and individual entrees) and made sure we understood all the options. He clarified the cooking times and came by just the right amount of times to make sure we were doing okay. We ended up getting our usual favorites which are the following: Fiesta cheese fondue: I think this was discontinued for some time but I absolutely love this! It's the perfect amount of spicy and pizzazz! For our entree we did the create your own and got: Filet x2, duck, sirloin, pork, and teriyaki sirloin. I tried the filet, duck, and both sirloins and they were all very delicious and well seasoned. The duck is nice and tender and all the meats paired well with the selection of sauces. First time here at the Melting Pot.... yes, I am a little late. I took advantage of the "Galentines Day" special for $29.99 per person. The menu was more than enough. I underestimated how full I would get based off of looking at the fixed menu for the special. It was a four-course meal. First was sparking gruyere cheese that came with white bread, wheat bread, veggies, and diced apples. We had the option of choose another cheese from the regular menu but since it was the first time, we went for the fixed cheese. Wow, it was delicious with the champagne, garlic, and nutmeg in the cheese. That was a firm 4/5. Second course was a choice of salad from their regular menu. I was very pleased with the Bacon and Spinach Bleu salad... that is if you are a Bleu cheese fan and bacon fan! Third course gave us the option of the type of broth to boil at your table while you get raw shrimp, chicken, steak and some type of pasta (basically like a wonton). We chose the fixed broth for the special and to be quite honest... the concept of cooking your meats and veggies at your own table in a boiling flavored broth pot is unique. Was it good? Not so much. Maybe if we had went with another broth flavor (wanted to try the seafood base one) but it was very dark in the restaurant and the light was fairly dim. Now, I'm big on cooking. I could not see how cooked my meat was because it was so dark. Overall all third course was a 2.5-3 rating. Last but not least, dessert. We decided to choose one of the chocolate fondues on their regular menu. They had a lot of options for everyone to choose from so that was nice to be able to read the options for those regular milk chocolate lovers, dark, white, milk with peanut butter, or pecans. We went with the banana fosters fondue and I wish I had double. It was absolutely delicious and it came with fresh fruits and other pastries (rice crispy treats, cake, waffle, fresh cut fruits, cookies). Dessert was 5/5. Our server was sweet and outgoing. I am always a fan of celebrating a special occasion at The Melting Pot. It is a unique, fancier dinner that makes for the perfect celebratory meal. We went to the Reston location for my boyfriend's birthday. Parking: There is a parking garage behind the restaurant that is free. Service: The service here was great! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She regularly was refilling our drinks and any of sides / sauces. Also, a man (presumably management) checked in on us to make sure everything was going well which was hospitable. Food: We got the classic cheddar (with comes with breads, fruits, and veggies). I was a huge fan of dunking the pretzel bread into this fondue. For our salads, we both had the house salad with their homemade dressing. I am not a salad gal and I LOVE this salad. It has a lot going on. Yum. For our meal, we had a mix of meats (herb crusted chicken, sausage, premium filet, teriyaki filet, and more). My favorite is always the sausage (which is interesting because it isn't something I'd usually order). The part of your meal does come with veggies, potatoes, and lots of sauces (I recommend the cream cheese based sauce). Finally, for dessert we did the hazelnut truffle chocolate fondue (which comes with tons of fruits, cakes, etc.). All the food was GREAT, super tasty. Birthday: For his birthday, they brought out a special plate with our dessert that said happy birthday and had a candle in a puff pastry. I could have done that at home over my own stove or grill without getting a crink in my neck, trying to reach the hot plate from the uncomfortable bench! How does this chain stay in business and who are the suckers who would return a second time to pay exorbitant prices to cook their own food!!! My mind is blown! My boyfriend and I decided to come here for my 31st birthday and left a bit disappointed. We were going to do the Thursday Date Night Special and when we told the server that, he didn't seem to know what it was. We asked about the wine and he didn't know that was part of the date night special. I had received a birthday email from them about six chocolate covered strawberries and I called them a week prior to make sure they would have those ready when we made the reservation but the server had no clue about what we were talking about...yet again. It just seemed like he had never worked or been taught about what the Thursday date night special was, it was quite disappointing. And also, it says you're supposed to receive a souvenir photo and that was never offered or given to us. The food was great but the server kinda ruined what that special dinner was supposed to be because he seems so clueless. Needless to say my birthday dinner wasn't as good or special as it should've been because of him. Rating 2.5 stars and here is why: Recently dined here for our daughter's first Valentine's Day dinner. We came on Saturday, February 11, 2017. I made the reservation as soon as they were released on Open Table. I was told that because it was a special menu (not all menu items were available for dinner), the RSVPs were not opened until everything was finalized. Because of the special event (daughter's first v-day), I basically made this RSVP for a memory. With that, I added the package of the the chocolate covered strawberries and a picture. They had several packages that you could add to your RSVP. I can't remember the price but somewhere in the $20 range. I called back the day of the dinner to add on the teddy bear for the little one. The reservation staff stated that that would not be a problem, and that it would be on the table when we arrived. We arrived and yes it was a little crowded. We waited about 10 minutes before being seated which was not bad at all given the day. There were three adults and one child in my party, so we sat at a both which was enough space for 4. Out of the entire party, I was the only one who had ever experienced the Melting Pot (a different location). Our waitress, nice lady, did not explain the process very well. She spoke really fast which left the other two guests in my party asking "what did she just say" or asking her to repeat herself. We finally ordered, so keep reading for the food overview! Food: As the menu was sort of set for the night, you could pick one cheese fondue per table, one salad per person, one entree per person, one cooking style per table, and one chocolate per table. Basically, we had one cooking pot, so anything that had to be cooked was a shared effort. This was not a big deal for us, as we all agreed very easily. Our selections: Wisconsin Cheddar, Apple Bacon Spinach and Caesar salads, Mojo cooking style, various entrees meats which included: sirloin, filet mignon, shrimp, chicken, and mushroom sacchetti. Our chocolate selection was The Original. We all drank water, I had a coke, and my husband had one of the special v-day alcoholic beverages. The cheese was probably the worse. We felt as if the mustard added by the waitress was too much. My first coke was a bad one as the syrup needed changing. Not a big deal...told the waitress and she got it right on the second time around! The salads were small, but really good!! The entree portion was really good as well. We enjoyed all the meats and cooked veggies and the seasoning of the meats were great! The chocolate was probably our favorite! Everything taste great, and surprisingly we were all too full to finish it. The special v-day cocktail was just OK. The heart-shaped strawberry in the glass made for a cute picture. The problem I had with the food is that I never received a refill on my coke. Did I ask? No. But if it was offered, I would've taken it. I just sipped on my water as I figured that is what I needed. Keeping in mind that I had a baby to tend to, I didn't think to ask for one honestly. And finally, the biggest problem I had, the main reason for my 3 star rating, is that i NEVER received my packaged teddy bear or picture. I am not sure what happened there, but I did not want to get the manager involved...I sucked it up as "they are just super busy or something". This was kind of a bummer since that was the main reason I booked it...the memory for the little princess. When I looked at my bill, it was not a line item, so that was good...I guess! I would have much rather had the bear and picture and just paid for it verses not having anything at all. Perhaps I would visit again, but not sure what year. Haven't been to melting pot in years and my partners first time. Overall okay. We came during restaurant week and service was okay. Got sangrias which were okay. We ordered the green goddess cheese since it wasn't on their regular menu, which was basically cheddar flavored. Melting pot salad with peppercorn ranch was good. Ordered shrimp, sirloin, teriyaki beef, and pesto chicken. Could have done without the pesto chicken, but the teriyaki beef was good. We probably shouldn't have chosen the mojo broth for the meat we ordered, but it was fine. The cilantro lime flavor was strong when we cooked the vegetables. Our server was around until we got our third course then she disappeared for maybe 30 mins or so and we were waiting to flag her down for the check. The server was the only semi disappointment. She wasn't speaking very clearly (yes we all wear masks and know the struggle), but we could hear another server further away very clear. Her attitude was present and not the best service. I love Melting Pot chains generally and have been a long term customer... I came here with a date and admittedly we didn't have reservations but it was a spontaneous Thursday evening so we thought maybe. The hostess turned us away and said they didn't have a table for us. I thought that was odd, so I checked opentable and made a reservation for about 5min later and it was accepted... odd I can make a reservation for essentially right now given you just told us you have no tables... so I showed them our reservation and they begrudgingly sat us. Other restaurants have been so grateful for continued patronage and support... this was a stark contrast. And as a black couple, I couldn't help but wonder if that had something to do with it... What followed was a par-for-the-course melting pot fondue meal, but at a painfully slow pace, the slowest service I've ever experienced at a melting pot. This parking at the location is kind off the path but an easy find. The server was excellent, the food was so darn good and the chocolate fondue was the bomb!
