The Milton is my home away from home. The staff makes you feel welcomed and the ambience is friendly and perfect for an after work drink or dinner. It's multigenerational so old and young gather together. The selection of beers is excellent. (I highly recommend a pint of Road to Ruin.) And you can always count on being fed and fed well. The outdoor seating area is a bit loud at times due to traffic and bikers, but overall, it was really enjoyable. This was my old stomping ground when I lived on the UES. I've been here for full-blown brunch and dinner and also just snacks and drinks. Great place to hang out with friends night and day; could get a tad too loud for dates later in the week since it's a popular place in the neighborhood but the ambiance is legit. Came here for their special Monday happy hour where they do dollar oysters and have a bunch of other discounted appetizers. The oysters were good but they may have been a ting bit old. I enjoyed the croquettes and the deviled eggs a lot. The truffle nuggets were a little odd and kind of dry so I wouldn't particularly recommend but they weren't awful. Made reservations here for their thanksgiving dinner because I work at one of the hospitals on call on the upper east side and don't have the luxury of being home for the holiday. Three hours before my reservation I get an email that it's been cancelled. When I called them to let them know that I still need my reservation they told me they forgot to turn off their Resy and thus cancelled all of their reservations made through Resy. When the server came over, I immediately said I was gluten free. She got our drinks and came back to take our order. I ordered the Almond Pancakes (the description on the menu is "Two pancakes made with almond flour") I then asked the server if there was any other flour used and she said "oh yeah, it is a mixture of wheat flour & almond flour". When I said I just told you I was gluten free why didn't you say anything - she said I never said mentioned it. As someone with Celiac disease, believe me that is the first thing I say. If I didn't ask again, it could have been a big challenge for me. Plus why would the restaurant NOT mention they use both almond and wheat flour in the description of the dish? Stopped here on a gorgeous night for their outdoor seating. My colleague and I chose deviled eggs and spinach artichoke dip for our apps. The flavors were complex and scrumptious for both. Both of us had the Cottage Pie for dinner. It is unbelievably delicious! It's also extraordinarily filling, so plan on getting a couple more meals out of this dish! The Milton is amazing! I was disappointed I wasn't there for the $1 oyster happy hour, but I'll be back for it. Bar tenders are fun and personable. I enjoyed watching them interact. It seems late night during the week the bar top is jammed with locals. They even knew what people ordered the week before from memory, that's service. The drinks are unique as they have a few options with Rose. I loved the wine list. Definitely a good spot to get a cocktail if that's your thing. The food - yes! I had a tuna tartare dish, it was served in a jar on a slate board and yes the flavor matched the aesthetics! Fresh, tender tuna and good guacamole on top. We ordered the Jameson wings, which was a unique find and intrigued us enough to try them. They did not disappoint. While you may think it would be hard to mess up wings, it's not hard. Milton's are really good, definitely recommend. There was a man sitting alone a few seats over just eating a burger and I don't think he looked up once. He was in a suit, not a starving man so this is how I know I should order that next time. Decor and ambiance was adorable, I couldn't stop gawking. I've been to the Milton twice lately for brunch. It is a solid brunch spot. It's reasonable, the food is good and the servers do not rush you one bit. All of the brunch entrees (prices $14-$18) come with tea, coffee, Bloody Mary, mimosa or screwdriver. What a deal! Ordered: Two eggs any style ($14)- I swear the Milton gives you more than two eggs when you order them scrambled. See my pic for proof of this. The eggs come with roasted potatoes and onions and bacon or sausage. I got breakfast sausage which I enjoyed. Omelet of the day ($15)- the Milton's omelets are made in the french style- soft eggs wrapped around cooked fillings (rather than fillings mixed into the eggs and then cooked). I had a mushroom and Swiss omelet. The mushrooms were very finely chopped, almost like a paste. They were flavorful and nice when paired with the Swiss cheese. They came with roasted potatoes. I had been craving a good Ploughmans lunch for some time so I was really looking forward to this. I was presented with a small wedge of cheddar cheese, pickle, that I could honestly say I could not identify, microwaved bacon, sliced sour apple, massive amounts of sliced beef tomato, stale ciabatta, hot, sweet, sticky nuts and deviled eggs. The only thing on my plate that goes into a Ploughman's was the cheese that was somewhat sparce. This is what is usually presented as a Ploughmans - several slices of different cheeses, always containing a wedge of cheddar and a wedge of Stilton. Pickled onions, thick wedges of bread, butter, celery, red apple, cherry tomatoes with a little bit of iceberg lettuce, and 'Proper' pickle like Branston which can easily be purchased in the US. I know because I'm a Brit and I live here in the US. Sometimes they may also put a nice slice of ham on the plate as well. My 17 year old son accompanied me to this meal. He ordered the burrito. He ordered the burrito. As a typical teen he will generally eat everything and anything but this beat him today. He couldn't distinguish what was in the burrito and literally had a few mouthfuls of food and gave up. Our almost full plates were cleared away and we were not asked if everything was all right. The interior of this eatery had seats that needed repair. It has the potential to look as it once looked per pics online. I'm not one to try and get money off a bill but instead vote with my feet meaning I will never return. Where is Gordon Ramsay when you need him. read more
