Momos are fantastic - chicken tikka especially, they have a ton of flavor and have always been well prepared in our 5+ visits. Don't be afraid to try one of the traditional dishes - they have way more variety than many other restaurants. The biryani is great, and I've loved the Gully and Ghee Roast appetizers. The Jalfrezi, Chettinad and Rogan Josh are other personal favorites - absolute flavor bombs. A lot of restaurants tone down the spice for western palates, but the sauces here are swimming in heady aromas and flavors. The service is very prompt and attentive, and the location and ambience are also perfect (Main Street in Carmel, near US 31). But, the thing you'll remember most about The Monk's is the food. The food here was SPECTACULAR. The momos were filled with meat. The fries bursting with flavor. The maggi spring rolls had the perfect crunch and gave me the maggi satisfaction I needed. Establishment should make more of an effort to make a nice presentation for customers as I was the one to align the momos and spring rolls on my plate to get a nice shot of the food. When they arrived at the table the green chutney was hanging for dear life on the plate with the momos. I was served mango lassi (which was delish by the way) in a to go cup when my neighbors were served theirs in a mason jar. The bathroom on the lefthand side also has an electric paper-towel machine that does not work. I came out with wet hands and had to use the napkin at the table to dry them. My partner and I tried this place for the first time recently. I was very excited as I'd been wanting to go for a while. We were seated quickly, and that's about the only positive about the service. I don't expect servers to constantly be grinning from ear to ear or putting on a grand show, but our server very clearly didn't want to be there, and we had a hard time understanding him because he spoke so softly. It also took a while for him to come back after we were seated to take our order. My partner got the buffet, and I got the Chinese chili chicken off the menu. I thought my meal was quite tasty and would definitely eat it again. My partner was less enthused about the buffet - acceptable but not superb in his opinion. Our server never came back to check on us. I wanted a box for mine but didn't feel like chasing someone down for it, and we were on a time crunch and needed to get going, so we left. Having seen some neighborhood buzz about this little spot on Carmel's west Main Street, we stopped in at peak dinner time on a Saturday night. Although there was a nice crowd, we had no problem getting a table. There's a little bit of mixed messaging because there is a QR code on the table that seems to indicate you're supposed to order that way but we were grateful when a server came to our table. Most of the food was unfamiliar to us, but I had done a little research on the menu ahead of time, so we had some idea what we wanted to order. My dining companion enjoyed an entree called Chicken Manchuria that came with a small bowl of fluffy long grain white rice. I chose an appetizer (for my meal) called Chicken tandoori momas which basically looked like orange Japanese gyoza (dumplings). They were very flavorful, especially when dipped in the delicious cilantro sauce. I ordered medium spice and it was not very spicy at all, however my dining companion ordered medium spice on his dish and it was spicy. Not too spicy to enjoy, but not consistent with mine. Based on another person's recommendation we ordered the naan (bread), which was so light and fluffy. The garlic was subtle, and the basket did not come with any sauces, which was fine. It seems like they might still be working out some issues, but the men who seemed to be running the place had a good attitude of service. I think the outdoor seating area will be very nice once the weather warms up. The restaurant seems to face Main Street (131st) but there is parking out back, and most people came through that back door. We were offered a discount if we paid with cash. read more

The Monk's food was delicious!! We ordered our food online. The menu had so many choices. They had indian, Thai, and Himalayan food. There was a bit of a wait during pick-up. The restaurant was bustling. People also patiently waited for tables. At that moment, we knew the food was going to be amazing. They seated guests as promptly as they could, and we finally got our order. We ordered something extra as we were about to leave, an Indian beer I was curious to try- Bira. The host included it with our order, no charge, and kindly saying, "enjoy". I should mention that the restaurant itself is stylish, spacious, and clean looking. On the ride back to our hotel, the aroma of the food was incredible. We finally get to the hotel and pull everything out of the bags. We took my parents to Monk's after hearing good things about their indo Chinese menu. When we arrived, the service was on point, and food was good too! However, it went downhill towards the end as they got busier and they gave parts of our order to another table. We had to wait for a good 30-45 minutes before they brought out the correct items, but since we have a toddler with us we had to pack it to go. The indo Chinese items were all amazing! We ordered the monks special fries for an app and then for dinner split lamb butter masala and the Manchuria noodles. Had to get a side of garlic naan based upon other reviews I read and I'm so glad we did. First of all, it was so much food! We had two additional meals of leftovers after this dinner. The curry was perfection and I like that it came with rice - that isn't always a given. The noodle dish was the perfect thin noodle chow mein style. Lots of veggies and meat in it. The garlic naan had fresh garlic all over it and was perfect to scoop up some of the masala sauce. The fries to start were tasty but we're bust crinkle fries with a sauce. Just visited The Monk's a newer restaurant in Carmel. Don't let the strip mall location throw you this place is great. They call the food fusion and there's an extensive selection of primarily Indian and Chinese dishes. Tandoori, Desi Tacos, Noodles, Fried Rice, Biryanis and more. I went with a group so we tried lots of things starting with multiple appetizers. All were very flavorful and the naan is delicious. I had the Butter Marsala with Paneer and it was so smooth and creamy also a large portion. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we definitely want to go back and try more. read more

Loved all the food here!! I was halfway expecting to not like some dishes or that they would have similar tastes to one another but no! Each dish had its own unique flavor. You park in the back and enter from there even though you see it from the street. Service was a little slow. Our food came out at different times and not all together. The lamb dish came out an hour after we ordered and after we had ate everything else. We thought they forgot about it. Luckily we ate family style and not individually. We had our lamb packed to go. The establishment was freezing inside. We asked about the heat and they said it's on 70. I mean the place is covered in huge windows with nothing covering them so maybe that had something to do with it but it was freezing and I kept my coat on the whole time. This made it uncomfortable. The szechuan hakka noodles were my fav and had this smoky/grilled flavor. The green dish had a chutney flavor. We got chicken manchurian momos which were good. The sweet ginger garlic sauce in the orange dish was good and not so sweet like it sounded in the description. Every dishes sauce was so flavorful. Can't go wrong here. Will def be back. read more

I feel like The Monk's is one of the biggest hidden gems around! We tried several dishes, and everything was excellent. My husband and I love Indian food and have been to some of the top spots in London and India, and this is right up there. The spicy masala noodles, chicken vindaloo, Monk fries, chicken tandoori, and even the kids' side of fried rice were all seasoned and flavored to perfection. There aren't many Chindian places around (if any others?) and The Monk's is definitely top tier. read more
