Perfect spot for brunch or lunch in the Tribeca area of Manhattan. Best eggs benedict I've had in a long time and the profiteroles were especially delicious. Customer service was top notch. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful for this ol' first timer. The establishment is a classy, casual environment with beautiful decor and an eclectic feel. The Odeon continues to thrive after all these decades because, as I found on a Wed., the decor is clasic French bistro, the food is delicious (Moules Frites and pan fried Dorade), the cocktails are well made, and the service is very good. Only draw back is that some of the spacing is tight but you can still hear your table mates and it does not take away from the warm atmosphere in the evening. Reservations recommended. Bar, outdoor and table seating are all inviting. read more

Pricey food, slow service, the only thing that might be saving this restaurant is its decor. I'm so disappointed by this experience. There are limited options on the menu to begin with that I kept flipping to the back hoping for more but there were only drinks. Once we ordered, we waited for quite a bit before seeing our food or our waiter again. We didn't get any water refills or checkins. And even when we asked for the check, more waiting... The food was mediocre at best - imagine an American cooking French food and butchering it with too much grease and cheese. Would not be coming here again. read more

Super iconic place that has so much history. It opened in 1980 as a retro haven. Now a lovely classic restaurant. I have yet to come for dinner but brunch is always pleasant. The service is always impeccable, the servers are always so friendly. A lot of families with their children dine during the morning and day time, socialites, etc. The toast and French onion soup are my favorite. I'm more of a breakfast and brunch person. If you prefer something light and fresh, go for the toast! read more

First of all, I liked the ambiance. Picture included. We went on a Sunday and it was packed. You need a reservation. Our table was ready when we arrived. I was with two foodies. They ordered the cod and the chicken. I ordered the Salmon entree. Mine was full of flavor different textures . They each felt their meals were bland. Well not being a foodie myself, I asked them to try mine. They thought mine was tasty. I would return. The service was very good . read more

I came for dinner and thought it was Okay. It's a NY establishment, so it definitely gets some credit there but I didn't love the burger. I came again for just drinks and dessert and had a fantastic experience for that. The cookie was delicious. read more

Always love visiting The Odeon. The staff are fantastic and the food is classic New York quality. I recently went to celebrate becoming an American Citizen just before the pandemic hit. The staff must have overheard my group talking about this and brought over complimentary glasses of the same champagne I was drinking for everyone - a classy touch! I always love the tuna burger when I go, and I stuck to formula this time. It is did not disappoint. We also shared the apple pie - nice end to the meal. After the meal we sat at the bar and had a martini. Overall great visit again to the Odeon! read more

Came here with a friend visiting from CA and decided she was my excuse to check this place out. When we arrived, it was packed, and we were originally told we'd need to wait. Within minutes, though, the host managed to squeeze us in. I'm glad they did. We each ordered: Phony Negroni and Ginger Kick - both delicious French Onion Soup - reason alone to visit Mixed Green Salad - I'd skip it Atlantic Cod - actually really good, would honestly get again French Fries - perfect Chocolate Pudding - not the best dessert I've ever had... but still dessert. Service was good but definitely rushed (probably partially our own doing by showing up without a reservation) and she certainly lost interest when we only ordered mocktails. All in all, I'd still come back to try a few new things and repeat a few others. read more

We rolled into The Odeon on a Wednesday night with no reservations, and this place was packed! The gracious staff advised us that they should be able to fit us in, in about 20 minutes. So we ordered a glass of wine from the bar and huddled up in the corner until we were called. We ordered the steak tartar, sun choke ravioli, and a side salad. Everything was perfect, including the art deco decor. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're in the area. read more

I would recommend reservations since the place was packed on Wednesday night. We had a reservation but I wonder if it was possible to walk in without one. The service is nice and the place is classy. The place is pretty and staff are nice. But it's honestly super overpriced, even for Manhattan. I got a grilled cheese, $23 for bread and cheese. Seriously?!? The French fries were tasty and there were a bunch of them. However, shortly after leaving my mouth felt like I had licked a salt shaker. The aftertaste was not pleasant. The grilled cheese was super greasy. My date didn't really like his meal either, which was $28 for veggies. I don't know if I would come back. I definitely would order something different if I did. read more

A classic NYC restaurant that continues to shine! I went here for my birthday dinner and was blown away. From the food and drinks to the service, it was one of the best dinners I've had. My boyfriend and I ordered martinis that were chilled to perfection and oysters that were out of this world. Dinner didn't disappoint either. I had the tuna burger which is always good and my bf had the steak special. For dessert we had a scoop of their in-house ice-cream, passion fruit sorbet. They even put a birthday candle on it, which was so special. Definitely don't skip the dessert here!! Don't think just make that reservation and experience once of the classiest meals of your life! read more

First you walk in and are greeted by Roya and led to an amazing table to start your journey. Beautiful space. Classic and elegant. Then Amanda takes over. Perfect server in every way. Cocktails first. Martinis are crisp and manhattans are better. Mussels, fries, onion soup and pumpkin ravioli are all fabulous! But end with donuts! It's a must. All in all a quintessential NY spot. The service here is really good. Food and drinks come out really quick and the pancakes and cucumber martini would get me to return any time. Highly recommend making reservations in advance to enjoy your meal. Weekends are super busy. I personally think there are toooo many chairs and tables which makes it crowded but it also gives a classic old New York feel. They also have matches! read more

I went to Odeon for my birthday lunch. I'm not one to write negative reviews, and tend to respond positive. Waiters kept bumping into my husband because we were seated in a major walkway. When he got hit in the back by a waiter transporting a high chair, we asked if we could be moved. the manager-like person was brought over. We asked if we could be moved, and she shared that she could have us moved when the next two-seat table was available. We met our second waiter, who was nice, because the first waiter lost our order - and had to reorder. We saw two seat tables being cleaned and offered to new diners. So I got up to speak to the manager-like person. She told me that this wasn't her responsibility. She said someone else was responsible. I shared that she was the one we had the discussion. Her response, not her responsibility. So I said I was leaving. She offered to comp parts of our meal, and apologized that I had the misunderstanding. As soon as we left, I receive notice from OpenTable that our reservation was cancelled - which I've learned means you can't write a negative review on OpenTable. I don't think I would have even tried to find alternative ways to write negative review, but the cancellation was just another way of being dismissed. Why not apologize and be sensitive to eaters when moving chairs? Why not have the initial waiter acknowledge what happened? Why repeatedly put your colleague or guest at fault? read more

The food here is pretty standard French-American fare, but you know what I love about this place? The people-watching. Fancy, Tribeca-ites dressed to the nines with their purebreds, chatting about their summer getaways in the Hamptons or Cape Cod or other rich, WASPy enclaves. It's like a scene from Billions, except it's real. Food-wise, I had the decidedly un-French Purple Sticky Rice Bowl with avocado, kale, shiitake mushrooms, broccoli rabe, Sriracha broth, plus a side of fries. I don't remember if my meal was good because I was too busy listening to the trophy wife next to me describe how hard it was to find the perfect Klimt to decorate their new East Hampton foyer. read more

1130 reservations and they were packed! Our waitress took great care of us and wasn't overbearing or trying to turn the table. Steak tartare was some of the best I've had. My partner had champagne and i got a bloody mary. The croque monsier was amazing; i added an egg but it wasn't necessary. My partner had the breakfast club sandwich; must have been a full avocado on it; very good. Five minute walk to her condo so we will definitely be back! read more

What a beautiful French Brasserie! Gorgeous old school, classy, elegant and clean. Nostalgic and glorious vibe; art deco meets late 70s. Oysters to start, mussels with an amazingly rich broth (with leeks/onions), burger top notch, and profiteroles that I can't stop thinking about. Fantastic polished service, good drink list. The Odeon is a great option for brunch/lunch in downtown Manhattan. We arrived on a Sunday around noon without a reservation and we waited about 10 mins for first available. We were given a nice table outside under a canopy and outdoor heater. The food and service were good. This spot is nice to people watch too. The inside dinning was very crowded when I went inside for the restroom. read more

The Odeon has been around just as long as I have, and has been serving really good food for 40 years. Apparently it's where a lot of famous people used to hang out in the 80s including the cast of Saturday night live, Madonna and the like. I've only gone there recently but was really impressed with the decor, the food, service and the outdoor seating. I have tried the salmon and the banana trifle dessert the first time I was there and both were satisfying, tasty and well proportioned. This time around we went for the classic burger was definitely shareable. It came with fries that were perfectly crisp and not greasy at all. I also tried the burratta salad with the beets. The beets were perfectly pickled and they were the lighter colored type. Burrata was good even if a little small. I also had the purple rice bowl and it was a great vegetarian dish with a lot of flavor and a lot of different veggie elements in it, even for a non -vegetarian. It was in a spicy Sriracha broth and included a poached egg on top which completed the dish by bringing it all together. read more

Came here for quick snacks + drinks as kids were dropped off at a party place nearby. We were there at 3:45pm so the restaurant had plenty of tables available. We were seated right away and we ordered: - espresso martini (not on the menu) - calamari rings - fries - glass of white wine Espresso martini was nice. I would definitely order it again. All the other items were also pretty nice, calamari and fries were nice and crispy. Decor of the place is pretty nice. Feels like you have stepped back in time. It was my first time trying this place, I called to make reservations for dinner. It was quite busy when we arrived and the space was tight. I was surprised a French place didn't have bread service. The server got straight to our drinks. I was a little disappointed there, so we order some appetizer, oysters and onion soup. Food was good, I had their skirt steak with fries, medium rare, and my partner had the lobster sandwich. I was a-little pulled back by the change of servers, constantly within the hour. I guess the shifts was being change or something, we were introduced in the middle of our dining three times. In the end I wasn't even sure who was our server. read more

It was my birthday so I had half the menu. Duck was my favorite my parents liked the bouillabaisse, the steak au poivre was good but sauce had whole peppercorns which was a bit strong and off putting. The escargot were to die for and my favorite. Beef bourginon was very good! Overall I totally enjoyed my meal and the service was excellent! read more

The Odeon, a beacon for Manhattan night crawlers since the early 1980's, may be the most consistent restaurant ever to put down roots south of 14th Street. It has always delivered solid bistro cuisine in an attitude-free atmosphere, even when it was the very definition of hip. The menu is simple, with appetizers like a classic steak tartare rubbing shoulders with frisee aux lardons and onion soup. You expect to find a New York strip steak with french fries, and there it is, along with trout amandine and a somewhat unusual grilled pork tenderloin with broccoli rabe, faro and bourbon sauce. Desserts run to homey American classics, like chocolate pudding, or bistro standbys like profiteroles. My Francais G&T was unbelievably good and came with a cornichon. Actually, shout out to our busser (I wish I got his name!) who accidentally took my drink-pickle away and had the waiter bring over more to make up for it. It was such a kind gesture and he deserves to be awarded for his attention to detail. (The wait staff overall was excellent. For dessert we ordered the Dame Blanche and Profiteroles. I would recommend neither. The ice cream (in both) was poor quality, crystallized and not creamy. A real shame. In all, the meal too 2.5 hours due to the slow service. The soup remains fantastic. I'm downgrading my review to recommend this spot only for soup and salad and not a full, hours-long meal. For that, it's 5 stars, for a full meal a middling 3.

I wanted to take my friends to an Iconic NYC spot for their last day here so we went to The Odeon, We went for lunch and were sat in a booth which we thought was nice since we got to have a nice view of the Restaurant, until it started getting busy and the coffee station, which was right behind me, got super hectic. I felt I was in a school cafeteria, employees were talking and fighting back there occasionally, squeezing into that tiny coffee area to work, which was distracting and on the other side the kitchen door which was constantly banging open. At that point and after seeing the prices, it was our fault for not having left since it was a clear warning of what was to come, overpriced cafeteria food. We started off with the Calamari, if this hadn't been $16, I might have even been OK with it. It's like eating Calamari chips, as you don't get any of that usual juicy calamari taste and we could barely tell it was seafood, it tasted like a dish dehydrated in the oven and then breaded to be deep fried. The dipping sauces were good but that's all you can taste, they also didn't have Marinara as it's a "French" place, so no red sauce. I wanted a light lunch so I went for a Mixed Green Salad, adding on top of that, Chicken and avocado, after the waiter explained the mixed greens are literally plain greens. I also got a side of fries. The Salad was a bit wilted and salty and the chicken was tough and under seasoned. When the bill came it was $13 for the greens, $10 for the chicken, $7 for the slice of avocado, a total of $30 for quite possibly the worst salad I have ever had. And $11 for fries (YES the fries are more expensive than the protein!) Fries were good but a very small order that came in a small tin. My friends ordered the burgers, one tuna which was ground! Who gounds yellowfin and charges $24 for it? and a beef burger, not to our surprise, both were over cooked (like well done!) the server offered to take them back but at that point with the hustle and drama of them behind us, we just wanted to leave. And not only that, after they cleared our table there was an INSECT crawling on the wall next to me! And by insect I mean a ROACH! Safe to say I do not recommend this establishment. read more

A standby which has recently become depressingly outdated. Odeon is a classic New York restaurant from Manhattan master operater Keith McNally. There was a time when this restaurant represented the cutting edge of upscale casual dining. This is no longer the case. Service is polite, yet firm with walk ins. If you made a reservation, expect to get seated within 20 mins of reservation time. Everything's pretty efficient. The bar has plenty of space while waiting on a table. Busiest hour is 8-9pm and a good time to book is 9:30 or so because the crowd has disappated. I wrote to the restaurant two weeks ago about the issue and they've not responded, so I'm leaving this review. Order the eggplant parm, but skip the steak frites.
