Dave's back!!!!!! I have been coming for his halibut fish and chips for years. But also for his great clam chowder!!!! What a treat.

The quality of the fish is excellent, but I have never received such small portions in my life... Especially for the price they are charging compared to other efficient chips food carts or even restaurants in the Portland area. The fries were pretty average, I have had much better. Personally I would avoid this and go to one of the many other places in Portland for fish and chips. I did call and make a complaint, the lady on the phone assured me that all pieces are weighed out. I literally got two bites per piece and they want big bites, I will let you make your judgment as to whether this is good value for money. read more

Excellent flavor and cooked spot on. We had the catfish, fried salmon and cod plates. The fish portions are a bit small. Being southern I love catfish and the catfish cornmeal breading was cooked perfectly and well seasoned, which properly seasoned food in the NW is a rarity in my experience. Wish the portions were more generous as these were small filets. The clam chowder was delicious as well but again just a tad undersized for the price. read more

One of the best fish and chips ever. Halibut: so tender and juicy with just enough seasoning on the crunchy and light batter. Fries: crispy and has a layer of black pepper that I've never had anywhere else before. Coleslaw: my first time trying a sweeter coleslaw and it was a hit. Chowder: a bit of the saltier side for me but the small size was the perfect amount with the fish and chips. The owners are also so sweet! read more

Fabulous find on Killingsworth food cart plaza. I had the sockeye salmon fish and chips for $10. Well worth every penny! Crispy, but not too greasy. No need for salt or pepper. The fries were good, not the greatest. I love that they don't use a beer batter base, which I find tends to mask the taste of the fish. Kudos!! read more

SOOOOO TASTY!!! Go here, trust me! Ordered four of the coconut shrimp, cup of clam chowder and some coleslaw. The coconut shrimp were perfectly cooked and you could really taste the yummy coconut. The clam chowder --- probably the best I've ever had! Perfect creamy consistency, the pieces of bacon were large and flavored it well, perfect amount of clams, and the seasoning was spot on. Tasty, tasty, tasty... Must try!! The cocktail sauce was so dang good! As the owner was serving me, he said as a warning, "watch out for my cocktail sauce!" He was right... the horseradish in there really knocks your socks off! But it was really delicious! The tarter was very tasty too! The coleslaw was pretty good. I'm not the biggest coleslaw fan, but it was nice to have on the side. It had pineapple in it, so it added a lot of sweetness. I can't wait to go back to try the halibut! read more

What a great lunch we had today at Halibuts at the Piedmont Food Pod! I ordered the fish n' chips. Today the fish was marlin! As much as I love marlin, I rarely order marlin in a restaurant because not every chef knows how to cook it so it isn't dried out. But the Halibuts folks know just what they are doing. Wow, it was so flavorful and flaky, but sturdy enough for dipping into some wonderful homemade tartar sauce. It also came with delicious fries and a homemade cocktail sauce loaded with horseradish (something I normally love, but today I just wanted to taste that wonderful marlin. The chef gave us a taste of his chowder, too, while we were waiting. Both my wife and I agreed that it was some of the best chowder we've ever had! If I'd had more room, I would have gotten a bowl with my lunch, but I got very full without it. Talk about service, too! The food pod has very nice seating and she brought the food out to me while I waited, a nice touch! Oh, and there is a beer / wine food truck, too, so I washed down that tasty lunch with a very nice IPA. We'll be back for sure! read more

Loved the area, very friendly and food was delicious I had the pacific cod fish and chips and some chowder on the side, which didn't have to much of a fishy taste was the right blend of flavor just delicious. Fish & chips well-made & with such passion. I had the fish & chips (had to try it for the Halibut), a cup of clam chowder, and coconut shrimp. We met the owner, who was fun to chat with. He assured us that it'll be some of the best, if not the best fish & chips we'll ever have. I was impressed with how good everything was, especially the halibut. The batter was light and crispy, while the fish was fresh & flaky. Loved the tartar sauce, which has a pronounced horseradish kick. Clam chowder and coconut shrimp was also yummy. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. We had been walking through the neighborhoods for a mile on a gloomy day while exploring Portland and so glad we decided to stop here for a snack. read more

WOW!! A best kept local secret. A small food court with food trucks. If you are expecting the Ritz, this isn't it. I have had halibut in many different places across the Northwest and it was good, but no way as good as this! My wife had the jumbo prawns, they were great too. The chowder is to die for. Solid Fish and Chips! You won't be disappointed. The batter is light and it is perfectly fried. The fries (chips) were thick cut and also seasoned nicely. I really like the cocktail sauce which has a nice horseradish kick. It tasted fresh and not like it was spooned out of a jar. read more

This place really is good! But definitely go for the white fish as opposed to the salmon. Salmon gets dry when it's fried and it's just not as satisfying as cod or halibut in this application. Fries are nicely seasoned and batter is light and crispy. Overall very tasty. read more

Best fish and chips I have ever had! Halibut was very fresh, well fried and seasoned. Really impressed with the fish. Quick service and the chef came out while we were eating to check and make sure everything was good. You can tell they care. Great fresh fish of many varieties turned into yummy fish and chips! Good chowder, good fries and tasty sauce!! Last time I was there they had fresh sea bass and it was awesome! I ordered catfish and fries on delivery from this restaurant under the impression that it'd be a little soggy given that the wait was about an hour long. This would've been forgivable. The beginning of this absolutely ethereal experience was when I brought my food inside and opened the takeout box to find that all the food was still warm and crisp! Thank you!! And actually eating the food? Stellar!! The french fries were delightfully crinkle cut and well seasoned. The fish itself could've used just a little bit more salt but obviously that was something easy to rectify. Plus, it was so flaky, tasted fresh and was perfectly fried, so given that I'm definitely not complaining! The restaurant was kind enough to provide all the little tidbits like ketchup packets, vinegar and napkins even though I forgot to ask for some. Speaking of condiments, I was really lost in the sauce with their cocktail and tartar sides! Like wow, that cocktail sauce really blew my mind. Heavy on the horseradish, and very spicy. It was good on its own, but I ended up mixing it with the tartar sauce to mellow it out and it was quite a lovely time dipping for both the fries and the fish. The two stars are for the fish being delectable and delicious. The absence of the other three stars is because the merchant, Dave, it's really not a nice person to deal with and struggles with fulfilling orders and customers requests during his posted business hours. And for clarity, we would usually spend $35 every time we went there. In the month of January alone, we spent no less than $400 on halibut and clam chowder! Additionally, he complains when you call at 11:30 AM, and he complains when you called at 7:30 PM on a Friday night! Unfortunately he and his family have lost our families support and business forever. Furthermore it is my opinion, that merchant's like this, do not deserve to be in business serving the public, especially when the public is made to feel like they are a burden. And it does not matter, when you are a business owner, what problems you are personally going through. SOOOO GOOD! traveled from our stay in Seattle to visit Portland. After a long day of hiking/walking stopped in this spot for some fish and chips. Wow...been in search of the best fish n chips in the Portland area. We have been as far as cascade locks. Our search is most definitely over...great clam chowder, but the fish n chips are excellent...super batter not to thick not to thin. And the halibut was flaky and moist. Tarter sauce just as good. I normally don't eat from Food carts. I was looking for some halibut on my phone and Yelp led me here. I was a little reluctant however I had made an online order and I had to pick the food up. Believe it or not I was actually going to throw it away but I took a bite of the tender well cooked halibut and was hooked I have been going back to this please once every 2 week for the last two months. I have had the prawns and catfish; the food is extremely consistent and the owner is a really friendly guy. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. read more
