The Peninsula Chicago is THE top of the line. The concierge went above and beyond to make my birthday celebration amazing. They surprised us with a birthday cake and chocolates in the room. Our package included early check in, late check out and complimentary breakfast. The hotel was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. The room was spacious and masterfully appointed with high-end electronics, body care products and linens. I could go on and on about how wonderful every aspect of our stay was. Of the 5 star hotels I have stayed in, the Peninsula blows all others out of the water. We WILL be back! read more

The high tea served in lobby taste even better than it looks, even it looks pretty enough. The tea leaves are the good quality kind. An excellent combination! Service is 5 star for sure! Free wifi, concierge charged my phone without me walking over, tea was refilled, was asked if I want to pick out all the tea leaves to avoid bitter taste - this is heart warming! Server catered to my needs nicely, also offer newspaper when they saw me alone. Lobby looks 5 star of course. Spectacular service and cleanliness. I've stayed in my share of five star hotels, and some are more overpriced than others. The Peninsula is pricey, but it strangely does not feel overpriced. The carpets are immaculate - honestly, if I could keep carpet that clean, I would not be opposed to having same in my home... Every detail is well thought out, from the numerous iPads in the room to the endless number of ways to charge your wireless devices They are dog friendly! My pup LOVED IT. My only complaint is that the town car is difficult to track down and has limited hours. I was hoping to ride in it for dinner (and save myself an Uber ride), but it was nowhere to be found. I was also hoping to ride in it for a late lunch, but apparently it wasn't operating until the early evening. read more

Beautiful rooms and facilities. Tasteful and elegant furnishings. Great location. Amazing food! I've been to three Peninsulas (Beverly Hills, Chicago, and Tokyo) and I found this one to have the best food. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet, dinner at the Shanghai Terrace, and the Chocolate Bar (a great tip from one of the servers at the Terrace). All delicious!!! Especially impressive were the dessert offerings at the Chocolate Bar - with the mountain of truffles and tiramisu! I was a kid in a candy store. The service was good but I don't think it was on par with the Peninsula Beverly Hills. Front desk staff gave us conflicting times for checkout - we requested late checkout and were told "no" by one person then "yes" by another. The demeanor of some of the employees could be described as courteous but not particularly welcoming. However, I must mention that the Concierge (Steven) put forth a lot of effort to make sure we were able to do some of the activities recommended by the hotel (including an off-schedule tour of Vosges Chocolate). So we were really grateful for that! The location was great! It's right in downtown and we had no problems getting to shops and food by foot, or by Lyft. We would definitely stay at the Peninsula Chicago again. read more

The Peninsula Hotel bar is a great place to meet after work to see and be seen or to end your night out in the city. The martini's are great and the service is impeccable. While I like to sit at the bar- there are chair groupings throughout that allow for a more intimate setting. Just a note of caution- this place can get packed on the weekends. Even the "bar food" has a special touch to it. Try the mini-burgers topped with cheddar or Brie cheese and a pickle slice or how about the veggie panini sandwich with roasted mushrooms, peppers and eggplant? Yum. Even the bar snacks are good- but ask for a fresh bowl as they sometimes leave a half filled bowl on the bar. Love to sit and watch the people go through- sometimes an older crowd and other times a young crowd- but always a Chicago crowd. Hmmm . . . I wonder where the guests at the hotel go to drink? Ladies- for your convenience there are small hooks under the bar to hang your purse for security if you choose to sit at the bar. Fun people, great drinks and good food? Sounds like a combination for a fun start or end to your evening in Chicago. read more

Afternoon Tea So well done, and so beautifully served. The tea sandwiches were as tasty as they were pretty. We opted to include the rose champagne to our tea. Not a cheap meal I am guessing about $75 a person with two glasses of champagne. It was more food than we could devour at that time of day so we had them pack it up for home. My review may be 4-stars, but don't get me wrong, the Pen is spectacular. I got a room with a bunch of girl friends for access to the rooftop deck as a change of pace to enjoy many cocktails and girl talk before going to the chocolate bar. As soon as my cab pulled up, a hand was there to help me out and my luggage was already out of the trunk. I had three different people offer their assistance with my one small wheeled case (carrying a blender and snacks). The room is nice, but what makes it extraordinary is the bathroom. Oh. my. gosh. The bathtub is fabulous! I stayed later than my friends just for the chance to soak. Love the recessed tv above the tub. Even the shower is great---in a separate stall from the bathtub. Tons of counter space for multiple girls to touch-up makeup---sink and a separate vanity. The rooftop deck is right off of the pool. It's a nice spot with views over Michigan Ave. What we were most impressed with was the water---silly, but hydration is important when consuming alcohol. The hotel offered cucumber water and strawberry water near the pool for guests. Tasty. The chocolate bar is delicious! I wish my stomach hadn't filled up after only two trips so I could get a little more value for the $30 price tag. I wasn't impressed with my white chocolate truffle martini----the raspberry had too much of the fruit cough medicine aftertaste for me. The Lobby is gorgeous and our service was outstanding. The reason I bumped off one star is the entertainment center is unnecessarily complicated. Three women with advanced degrees couldn't get the speakers to play my docked iPod. Later, the sound went off while trying to play a DVD. We had to have a person come fix it, which took him a few minutes to sort out. The next morning, the sound no longer worked when playing the tv. I really only would've knocked off a 1/2 star, but that's not an option. read more

I write this from the comfort of the heavenly peninsula bed I am still laying in - this was by far the best hotel experience of my life. My husband and I live in downtown Chicago and were looking for a good staycation place to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary (we needed to stay local because we have a dog with special needs and needed a hotel that allowed dogs). As soon as the peninsula found out it was our anniversary, we were reached out to by the INCREDIBLE Emma (who I believe is guest relations) who went ABOVE AND BEYOND to not only provide champagne and strawberries (and a picture of us on our wedding day on the tv upon arrival - this woman is an absolute gem and the peninsula is so lucky to have her!), but upgraded our room to an executive suite. Emma and team also provided a dog bed and bowls for our pup which was so sweet and appreciated. The room was exquisite - clean, perfectly appointed, insanely comfortable bed, huge soaking tub (which I took full advantage of), the list goes on and on. I could not recommend this hotel enough - 5 stars through and through. Thank you for such an incredible experience - we cannot wait to come back! read more

We sauntered on in for some delicious high tea on a Sunday afternoon! While expensive for the tea, cookies and sandwiches, the experience was magnificent. My wife and I had an overdue anniversary celebration with High Tea - something I'd never done and something she hadn't had in 15 years. The tea was splendid - The orchid oolong was so good that we ordered a pound of it when we got home. Note: A pound of tea is a lot of tea as we found out, but this is good enough that we're continuing to delightfully sip through it! The tea service was $60 a piece and included a pot of tea, sandwiches, scones, cookies and accoutrements. Quite the spread for sure. The clotted cream (fancy whipped cream), lemon curd and strawberry jam for the scones were heavenly and something I'd consider replacing a mattress with if my wife were down. Sleeping on such decadent sweetness can only assure a good night's sleep! The gents who took care of us were fantastic and made the whole experience an incredibly memorable one. The whole thing was worth experiencing once and in the future, we'd probably just go a la care with tea and scones. Everything was good, those portions were amazing. Well worth checking out for the tea if you're in the area and looking for something a bit outside the box, but still familiar enough that you feel like you're on downtown abbey! read more

Such an incredible experience during my first stay at The Peninsula in Chicago. It was truly a pleasure from the moment we checked in to the (sad) moment we checked out. The hotel is conveniently located right off of the Magnificent Mile, which makes it just steps away from excellent shopping and dining. The rooms and finishes were nothing short of perfect. With touch pads located throughout the room and bathroom, you can dim the lights, turn on music, change the air temperature, change the channel on the TV and more with just a few taps. Beautiful property in a great downtown location. It's everything you'd expect from a top star spot. Lobby lounge area is spacious and great for meetings and enjoying an afternoon coffee or drinks. Have stayed at the hotel for years, sometimes months at a time. You really know if you're a Pen person or not. They're pretty much the same all over the world. I love them. However, this review is for the new Z Bar and the closing of the original "The Bar". Went to Z Bar last night after dinner. It's ridiculous and geared towards a "clubby" crowd. It is the opposite of what we all know and love about the Pen. It's NOT classy or bespoke. It is for a young crowd (although I am young too), this young crowd is here for the loud club DJ music and drunken messes falling about. We immediately left for The Bar on the lobby level. Although I live in Chicago, The Bar is one of the places that I go where tourists do too. Much to my surprise, they are closing the Bar and only having Z Bar. Shame on Pen for conforming to the clubby atmosphere that River North draws. Leave open The Bar too, for those of us who just want a cocktail, a fireplace, and a place to sign a contract or two. For now, I'm relocating all of my client and family meetings to Allium and Nomi. read more

Not great, not bad, but definitely NICE. Again, the service was impeccable from the moment you walk in and the amazing attention to detail is great. When we had reason to stay on the near north side of downtown Chicago, we selected the Peninsula Hotel just for the fun of it...and for the reason that they had been voted one of the finest hotels in North America - we wanted to see how they measured up. This was a very nice experience...not quite five stars, but a nice hotel with luxurious amenities. The lobby for the hotel is on the second floor...so when you enter streetside it is just a place to have your bags brought up if you like. Upstairs in the actual lobby it is quiet and comfortable. No one seems much in a rush as they have everything pretty much under control. Checking in was seamless. Once in the room we were pleasantly surprised as everything was in excellent shape. The Peninsula Hotel has gone through a complete room refurbishing over the last few years and everything was in tip-top shape. They have taken the time to update all the electronics in the room. There are two I-Pad devices that control everything...each of the three TVs and the lights in every room and the audio equipment. You can control everything from the I-Pad devices and never have to get up. The Honor Bar is stocked with top line products; the bathroom with Oscar de la Renta soaps and notions. Very classy. The beds were very nice. We had asked earlier for all foam rubber pillows and they missed that opportunity...but the feather pillows were comfy. The very nice duvet on the bed was warm but was too heavy as it weighed us down all night. The lack of a simple top sheet kept us from solving our own problem. (Sorry that this seems like first world problems.) The spa was delightful, although our two gals each had a Tension Relief Massage and the massages were different...but I guess that goes with different masseuses. The hotel pool was nice and clean but pretty pedestrian. Breakfast/brunch was nice in the Lobby of the hotel. Service here was much more spot on. Overall a nice experience...but I think I'll try a new place next time I am in the neighborhood. read more

They've got mood lighting in each bathroom, get the f outta here. This place is out of control nice! Everyone on staff was extremely attentive and the food at the restaurant near the lobby was good. But the point of my review, since you can read about all the other great stuff in the reviews below, is the fact that I got to scratch a wish off the ol' bucket list. I come to Chicago for work about every two months for about two-four days. I recently switched over to staying at the Peninsula. I have stayed here four times now and I will not stay anywhere else in Chicago. The rooms are comfy, big and very tech savy. One of the things that sticks out to me the most is that the room has a shoehorn. I usually don't take mine in my carry on due to TSA usually checking the bag which slows me down. Pros: Views, service, comfort, business friendly, easy to get to, staff is wonderful and great spa. read more

This beautiful hotel is the place to be. Right down the street from the magnificent mile it is in a prime location to be in the hustle and bustle of downtown Chicago. My husband and I were there over thanksgiving and were able to enjoy all of the perks of this hotel. The bathroom was as big aS my first apartment and everything is set up on an iPad to control thE tv, Tempe erasure of the room and to order rOom service. We did treat ourselves to the spa and I had the best massage of my life. It was nice to come into turn down service with slippers and rob es next to the bed. We stayed here in November 2018 for a "baby-moon". I emailed the concierge ahead of time, and they pulled out all the stops for my wife. They had a giant Teddy bear waiting for her, cookies for her, and even went on her registry and bought a small gift. The room and bathroom were very modern, with everything controlled from an iPad. The Afternoon Tea at the Lobby just opened and we couldn't wait to find an excuse to visit. True to our expectations, the experience was absolutely divine! It's been a number of years since I've had tea there and the atmosphere seems to have improved for the better, much more relaxed and comfortable, much less pretentious. There were the usual business diners, but a good mix of casual diners and even a family. The live strings ensemble was lovely. The afternoon tea menu was delicious, a mix of sweet and savory. Salmon sandwiches were a bit heavy handed with salt but all others were good. Our table's favorite was unanimously the chicken salad sandwich. The sweets were a pleasant surprise, we honestly could not pick a favorite because everything was so good! The desserts were just the right amount of sweetness and the cremes were absolutely amazing. I asked if there was any cake as we were celebrating a birthday and the waitress promptly brought us a birthday dessert that was a dish by itself. We were thrilled! It was such a lovely time and we left with stuffed bellies and scones to go. We will definitely be back for another occasion. read more

This is my go-to hotel when I'm in Chicago! The location is great - and right off of Michigan Avenue. The rooms are top-notch - the finishes are great, and as a tech guy, I love all of the little tablets that control the majority of the functions of the room. Restaurant wise - I really love The Lobby restaurant. The breakfast is solid, and the dessert bar on weekend evenings is fantastic. The staff in there are friendly, professional, and overall great to interact with. The bellmen are friendly, efficient, and professional. This applies to the check-in desks, and the concierge as well. The free house car service is also a nice amenity to have. Around Easter they put easter bunny ears on the Mini Cooper, which is a site to see! :). read more

I stayed here for a work trip while in Chicago. This is one of the nicer hotels I've stayed at. The location is perfect, My room overlooked Michigan Ave. There are tablets in each room and you can Bluetooth your phone to the sound system and play music throughout the entire room. The breakfast buffet was very tasty, they had a wide selection of fruits, meats, and the usual breakfast items. The bar is very elegant, there's a lot of dark wood, the lights are perfectly dimmed for a very intimate setting. The staff is extremely helpful too and very friendly. Always greeting me by name. I will probably book this place again whenever I go back to Chicago, its a 1st class establishment. read more

Too much frustration, not enough relaxation. That was my experience this past Saturday and Sunday nights at The Peninsula, where my wife and I were celebrating the one-year anniversary of our healing following a devastating, near-fatal collision caused by another driver up in Michigan. To start, upon arrival for our 3pm check-in we were told our executive suite was still occupied by another party that had opted for late check-out. So we were comped on a round of drinks in the lobby bar, then allowed the use of a standard room until our suite was ready at 530pm. Upon arrival in our suite we found we'd also been given a bottle of red wine for our troubles. After returning from a concert that night, my wife took a bath in the lovely bathroom. As she was getting out of the tub I walked into the bathroom barefoot and fell down quite hard on my right elbow, which had been broken in the auto accident last year and still has a plate and screws in it. Due to a plumbing problem the bathwater had backed up and come out of the shower drain, flooding the marble tile floor all the way to the bathroom door! I was soaking wet and bruised my hip but otherwise unhurt. We used all of our bath towels and the bath mat to dry the floor. The next day I notified management about the safety situation (more as a warning to staff and future guests; we certainly wouldn't do the same thing twice!) and we were moved to a higher tier junior suite for our second night, requiring us to pack and unpack. The bellhop said she could not move our wine and snacks and called room service to do so. When we arrived back from dinner two hours after switching rooms our wine still hadn't been moved, so we had to call for that. These experiences were extremely frustrating. The property is lovely, the suites quite comfortable (loved the iPad-style controls for TV, lighting and air conditioning), the staff was friendly, and the food and drink were both great, but the ball was dropped on too many occasions for me to want to return to The Peninsula any time soon. read more

I truly enjoyed my stay at the Peninsula Hotel. Large and comfortable rooms, with great decorations and high tech with digital light switches and tablets that allow you to do pretty much anything in your room, from dimming lights, adjusting temperature, ordering room service, to ordering another bathrobe. Room also comes with a shower and tub, and a lit make up mirror set up like a vanity you can sit at. I also had a meeting here. Outstanding meeting services with the banquet and AV staff. Excellent front desk staff and a great bar too. Gym is also large, clean, and has a great outline of general equipment. Home run hotel. Absolutely 5 star in every way! Pre-arrival wine request was done without question. The rooms are so comfortable. The staff are so well trained.
