Just stayed for a few nights at this hotel. Who comes to Chicago in February? The weather actually was great - but if we ended up being snowed in, THIS is the hotel I would want to be stranded in. I checked out other 5 star hotels along the Michigan Avenue, but this one looked newer, the rooms looked larger. Unfortunately the pool was closed, but the hotel put notices on the website, mentioned it several times to us, so we were well aware of the closure in advance. No surprises. It was very easy to drop off our rental car upon arrival. Someone immediately came out and took our baggage and vehicle. You take an elevator several stories up to the Lobby. Which is wonderful because even if you are staying in a 'lower floor' room, you are well above the city street, so the noise is not too bad. Yes you can hear the occasional siren, but that was expected being on a major street. What mattered more to me was that I could not hear the person next door. And I know someone was in there because I booked that room as well. No TV noise, no talking, barely could hear the coffee machine running. This is my biggest problem with hotel rooms. Even with very costly luxury hotels, I can still hear people next door as I am a light sleeper. But not this hotel. Did not hear doors slam, nor sounds from next door. Blissful sleep. The rooms were exceptionally clean. Stocked with everything we needed. Office supplies, a fax/copier, everything you need in the bathroom (sewing kit, cotton balls, shampoo/conditioner/gel, shaving kit, etc). What I liked about the shampoo is that you have to puncture the shampoo to open it. I have stayed at some nice hotels were you can tell that the housekeeping did not replace a used bottle of shampoo/conditioner. They were only 1/3 or 1/2 filled. Staff onsite are very friendly, professional and quick to fulfill whatever need you have. Even during this pandemic, a concierge staff member was always at the desk. Housekeeping was above and beyond. No cleaning carts in the hallway. They would clean the rooms without making any noise, nor being visible. Was impressive. They cleaned our rooms quickly and impeccably well. They tied up cords with branded ribbons and even noticed that someone had an ipad/glasses and left a cleaning cloth on the nightstand. The rooms are large, and comfortable. The lights, electronics and hvac is all electronic. So there are ipads to control the whole room from one place. Also have digital controllers on the wall. Call down to get your vehicle before you leave the room and it promptly arrives 10 minutes later. The towels are plentiful and huge. I love how I could wrap myself in a towel almost 1 1/2 times. Since the weather was perfect, we didn't take advantage of the spa nor steam room. Will next time! Ordered room service. Asked to have the cart left outside. The ordering process was delightful. The person on the phone asked me questions I didn't even consider, "would you like your milk heated" etc. Thank you so much. The room service person arrived with our breakfast and rang the doorbell. By the time I got to the door and opened it, the staff member was gone! (must have sprinted away!) I didn't even get a chance to say 'thank you' nor give a tip. So I called the room service folks back to leave a tip. The food was still hot and everything was so good. The granola was amazing. Eggs prepared perfectly. Pastries delightful. Definitely coming back to stay here. Exceeded our expectations. Thank you for a wonderfully relaxing and memorable stay. read more

We decided to stay at the Peninsula as a mid-winter staycation. It was so glorious to be here, it is difficult to explain. It was seriously the best hotel experience I have ever had anywhere. Period. The place is absolutely gorgeous - bright and airy with exceptionally large ultra-modern rooms, but also elegant old world charm in the lobby and public areas. Outstanding electronics in the room - you can work comfortably in it. Great connectivity. Lunch in the lobby restaurant is excellent, and the atmosphere is calm and subdued for a work or pleasure meal. We can't wait to have dinner at their Shanghai Terrace - rated one of Chicago's best for Asian cuisine. STAFF. The best part of staying at the Peninsula is definitely the staff. We felt that every person we interacted with was caring, helpful, smart and genuine. Morgan and Gary at the Concierge desk had a way of suggesting out-of-the-way places that were unique, even to us, a couple who had worked downtown throughout our careers. Floyd and Edgar were terrific, taking us places in the hotel town car. Not only was it a convenient way to get around, especially in rainy cold weather, but they were so friendly I hate to leave. Seriously. And Joy and Courtney at the front desk repeatedly went out of their way to handle every detail of our stay. And finally, Issac, the front office manager went so far as to buy us hearing assist headphones for the room to allow us to watch TV. What other staff at a hotel would go that far to accommodate guests? We're so impressed by the Peninsula that we've decided to return again in a few months! And we will absolutely stay at Peninsula hotels elsewhere in our travels. read more

I had the pleasure of coming here three nights in a row as I was babysitting for the child of a celebrity staying here. Not only is the lobby impeccable and beautiful, but the service seems to be outstanding. Every guest is greeted. They come to the room for turn down service and call the guests by name. I'm asked if I need a taxi and the door is opened every time I leave. The rooms are beautiful and large too. Clean, fresh, modern and elegant. The furniture is without blemish. The bathrooms, yes two in this particular room, are marble and well lit (a must for the ladies who don makeup). read more

This is what's it called a 5 stars service, hotel and a food! We stayed for 3 nights and we were amazed! I stayed in all those other amazing top notch 5 stars hotels like Waldorf or Ritz but this is another level! Starting from the check in, we were checked in by this lovely woman ( unfortunately don't remember her name) but she had a Bob hair which is short and she provided a great service, I personally think that's how all the front desk people should work! She explained everything in details, very slowly, greeted us, told about the hotel's history and showed us around the hotel! And of course checked us in a very beautiful room! As for the room, it was beautiful, big and very spacious, modern and well thought! It was like staying in a smart room! Overall hotel is gorgeous! I really liked that the front desk is located on a 3rd floor or maybe higher don't remember, because it was March and very cold outside and it would have been a very inconvenient to get checked in right at the entrance of the hotel! This hotel is stunning. RJ and I stayed here Oct 3rd and 4th, and it was a true 5 star experience. Service was impeccable, and the room was gorgeous and full of technology. I loved the giant tub with a tv so much, I took 3 baths in 2 days. The bed was heavenly, and we did not want to leave. The sheets were crisp, cold, and luxurious, and there were fluffy towels, robes, and slippers. There was even a scale in the room, that seemed to have a dead battery. When I told the front desk, they replaced it immediately. At checkout I told Taylor at the front desk how wonderful everything was, and my only small complaint was that they didn't refill the shampoo so we didn't have enough the second day. She promptly opened a drawer and handed me a few bottles of Oscar de la Renta shampoo which has a lovely, citrus scent. This was the most spectacular hotel we have ever visited. read more

Literally the gold standard of hotels in Chicago. We have stayed here many times and each time I feel special and comfortable. The hotel itself feels grand and high end. It is especially special around Christmas time. Their suites are stunning and recently updated with current technology. Linens and the beds are exactly what you'd expect in a hotel of this caliber. I am a consultant that travels for work and have been feeling very anti-Marriott/Starwood lately and venturing away from these dominating brands to try new hotels. The latest good decision in my new travel philosophy was staying at the Peninsula. The Peninsula is a beautiful hotel. Although I am more into modern design, the Asian paintings and old world elegance was a nice change. The service at this hotel is the main point of differentiation. Details that impressed me included: - a handwritten note from the manager thanking me for my stay with luxury truffles - organization of any item I had left lying around the room (imagine having a professional organize your room every time you left) - nightly turn-down service where curtains were closed, the TV was shifted to face the bed, and a towel and slippers were placed by the side of the bed These things may seem minor, but really impressed me. The only thing that was annoying about the hotel was the outdated shower. Despite this, I would definitely stay here again. read more

I came here for the Christmas holiday and I honestly didn't want to leave. The rooms have updated technology so the lights, privacy sign, temperature and remote are all on the same device! The views are stupendous and the food is delicious. If you are a gym person, my recommendation is to go in the afternoon when it's a little less crowded. This hotel has excellent service! Comfortable bedding. Lights are all dimmable and everything, lights, room temperature, tv, radio are all "smart" meaning it can all be controlled from the two tablets in the room or from individual touch screens mounted on the walls (which are about the size of a light switch). I don't care about this but it's convenient. Can make coffee with crema in the room, which I do appreciate. There are umbrellas in the room in case it rains. Room service any time. Three restaurants in the hotel (Asian food restaurant has a beautiful terrace!) I don't really care about anything other than cleanliness, comfort, excellent service, and that it doesn't have any bugs! Everything is spotless! I have stayed here twice and will probably always stay here when I come to Chicago. read more

This review is for utilizing the fitness center and day spa on the recommendation of a colleague and it was a great experience! The fitness center is very clean, well put together, has amazing views and generally everything that you need for a decent workout. All machines were well kept and in perfect working condition. The Peloton bike is also a nice addition to keep you motivated! After your workout the have fresh apples for you to replenish your glycogen as well! Delicious! Then the Spa / Locker Room is beautiful, elegant and very clean with a number of great amenities. You're provided with a robe, sandals and fresh towels both in the cubby and also by the spa attendant who shows you around the facility. The eucalyptus steam room is fantastic and has both fruit infused water along with rolled small hand / neck towels soaking in ice and cucumber slices for when you get finish! Very nice feature! The locker room has a shave station with better than average disposable razors, scented shave cream (check in case of allergy), aftershave and all of the other necessities such as mouth wash, lotion, etc. The walk in showers are very clean and come with two rooms which is a nice feature! When you walk in you have a "changing room" of sorts that you can close the first door then walk through to the shower. The products are great as well. I did not utilize the pool area however it was very nice and also had the ability to order food for deliver from any of the restaurants in the hotel. They do have a monthly membership option for locals which you can also consider based upon desire. Overall it was a great experience and I look forward to returning in the future! read more

At 3 in the afternoon I was told that every restaurant (2) were closed. As a guest of the hotel, I was not allowed to sit anywhere, but was told to go to my room and order room service. I have to meet with colleagues and don't want to have everyone sitting on my bed while we have lunch. I'm not sure how they define hospitality, but this is not the place for it. read more

Every weekend we would go downtown but a few weeks ago our place in the Gold Coast was being renovated and so we decided to stay at the Peninsula. Staff was excellent and accommodating and check in and out was super fast. We were also able to book a room for our dog and the rooms were beautifully decorated. I did notice a small spider when we open the curtains that was dead by the window pane but it's no big deal as my husband was able to flush it down the toiler. We also had breakfast and afternoon tea at The Lobby and the dinning area is exquisite and the food was very good especially for afternoon high tea. We also ordered room service and they even had a doggie menu! The Peninsula is a quiet, relaxing and super comfortable hotel and overall experience was excellent. read more

My only complaint is that they should probably keep the pool open a little longer. Peninsula Hotel Chicago I booked this hotel using the Booking.com app and secured a very good rate for our stay.  However, when we checked in the guy at the desk did not accept my reservation with Booking.com and checked us and charge me 3 TIMES the amount I secured the reservation at, which amounted to close to 3,500 dollars.  I spent HOURS trying to fix this problem while my kids were playing at the Childrens Museum.  When they finally, hours later, honored the correct amount after  Call 1:  Called front desk.  Response - call Booking.com we cannot help you (15 minutes) Call 2:  Called Booking.com - Response - super helpful let me call the hotel and see what we can do (38 minutes) Call 3:  Called front desk.  We spoke to Booking.com but we need a manager to approve this.  Booking.com needs to call us back and modify the reservation. (9 minutes) but they will immediately reverse it.   Call 4:  Called Booking.com and sat on the phone with them again for about 45 minutes for them to put me on hold, call the peninsula.  They were more than helpful and said that if the Peninsula continues to not honor this reservation they will reimburse me for what the Peninsula charged PLUS the reservation cost that I was originally going to pay. Call 5:  Called USAA (bank) and an hour later - they said that the charge was still there, nothing was reversed.  The Peninsula needs to call them to do this over the phone and it will be done immediately. Call 6:  Called front desk.  Their accountant did reverse it.  But they did not call the bank.   Call 7:  Called USAA to verify this information, they had nothing on their end. Let it go because the boys had a cooking class at Oiu Chef Chicago! Came back to the hotel, went to our room (kind of worried our key wouldn't work) and about 2 hours later just before we were heading to dinner the front desk called to state that they would settle this on Monday or when we check out on Tuesday or within the following week.  And they would give back $150 to compensate for this hassle.... Room We got a room with a King Size bed which is getting more challenging to pull off because the boys move all over the place and I end up on a couch or a chair, but they insist.  The closet was all set with slippers and robes in tiny to big for all three of us.  The bathroom was beautiful and there was a TV for the sink area and the bathtub.  There were a Nespresso coffee station and a fridge.  There were so many outlets and tablets and a big TV.  The small touches for the boys like the cupcakes and cookies and the little bears were so cute. The downside is that a lot of the chargers and charging cords in the room did not work. The toilet area smelled like urine, however, they freshen the bathroom twice a day, it was definitely noticeable in the mornings.  What I did love is they took a lot of time to make the bathroom so nice after we used it by the turndown service.  They arranged my makeup neatly on a towel.  They made sure we had fresh towels.   The maid and turndown service was a favorite and nice touch for this hotel.  They made sure not to forget all of the details including lining up our slippers by the bed for all of us.  Making sure everything was tidy.  Amenities We did not partake in the food services.  The pool has a menu and servers but we brought our own less obvious snacks and I bought some wine at Whole Foods that came in a carton thing so it was less obvious.  Otherwise, a glass of wine is upwards of $20.  I have eaten at Shanghai Terrace (over the summer) with a friend and we were able to sit outside on the terrace and it was truly a magical experience.  The pool area was not as nice as I was expecting it to be.  There was not enough seating for all of the people so I had to sit on this tile wall ledge for the majority of the time.  The floor was dirty with something that looked like black specs that were sticking to my feet.  There is a really poor design where the locker rooms and showers are across a long dark tile hallway through a lobby space.  When you get out of the pool - as much as you try to get your kids to dry off, you are walking dripping wet across this hallway with chairs and a lobby for the spa to the bathrooms.  And this was a busy time so it was all wet.  The attendant was more interested in getting tips and serving food instead of refilling the towels, cleaning the floors and making things decent.  We went to the locker room and got our own towels (tiptoeing across the tiled hall lobby) and I would not want to take my shoes off. And AGAIN why do hotels but big cloth cushions that are inevitably soaked by someone else's rear end. YUCK. And I would suggest that when it is not lap swimming time that the pool attendents remove the ropes downt the middle, they just get in the way and seem like a hazard for open swim time. The staff at the Peninsula was SOOOOOOOO nice.  I would give them more stars on service and the small details if I could. read more

Beginning with the entry-way and ending with the pillows this place was AMAZING. Words above and beyond amazing. It was chic and modern and clean and comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and elegant. The robes were soft and the slippers have held up months later. The modernity of this establishment was unreal. Yes, there is wifi. There are also iPad controlled: lights, television, thermostat, bathtub television. Yes. I said bathtub television. The location is ideal for walking to major tourist sites and if you want to find a ride, the concierge is only too happy to help. My husband and I stayed at the Peninsula for 4 nights, and I've never slept better. The bed and pillows are extremely comfortable. I also had an amazing experience at the spa. I typically love having tea prior to my services to calm me down, and the Jasmine tea I was offered is the best I ever had! My nail technician, Aldonna is such a sweet heart, and fixed up my nails after another technician from Allyu Spa destroyed them. Unlike the Drake hotel or Palmer, the door/car service staff actually helped open doors automatically. the rooms were clean and beautifully digital. My husband and I were enjoying drinks at the Z Bar last weekend and witnessed one patron verbally abusing another. The lady, who was clearly the aggressor, was allowed to come back into the bar three times to continue the assault. Management stood on the sidelines and finally called security after the third instance. The only employee that stood by the lady being attacked was the bartender. In a world full of crazies, this was unacceptable behavior by the management. I would hope they would take more care to ensure the safety of their patrons in the future. read more

My sister just had her wedding here. My parents have always loved staying here when they wanted a weekend in the city so they suggested that she have her wedding here and it was worth it. It is a very pricey venue but with that cost comes impeccable service. You're greeted the moment you pull up in your car/Uber/cab and are assisted with your luggage. Driving around here is always stressful, so do allow time when you're coming or going. I'm not sure how much it costs to valet, but it is an option. The bridal party stayed the night at the hotel. The bridal suite was 2 adjoining suites. One suite had the king (possibly California king bed?) and the other suite had 2 doubles. The rooms are amazing. Both suites had a shower and a tub. The drawers are the quiet close ones which I love. There's a coffee machine along with coffee pods and tea bags. The beds and pillows are so comfortable, you can just sink right in. Any time we needed things, we'd call down to the front desk and within 5 minute we'd get what we needed. For the wedding- the ceremony and reception were both at the Peninsula. My sister worked with Jennifer throughout the planning process to make sure everything was exactly how she wanted it. I wasn't part of it but I know in the end everything came out beautifully and my sister was happy. Little things like bringing out each course to everyone at the same time made a difference. So I've never actually seen the rooms here, but I've spent enough time at the bar, in the lobby, and at the restaurants to know this is one swanky hotel. And you know you're at a nice hotel when you get up from working on the couches in the lobby (yep, I'm guilty of stealing their wi-fi on a few occasions) and the staff runs over to fluff the pillows you left behind. Besides the free wi-fi in the lobby and elegant atmosphere they have a very impressive afternoon tea. I've had my share of high tea over the past few years. That's what happens when all your friends get married...you pretend you're all grown up and have high tea bridal showers. I've had tea at the Ritz, Drake, and Peninsula...and the Peninsula blows them all away! Delicious finger sandwiches (the chicken salad is especially tasty), a basket of delicious scones (can't eat just 1), and incredible desserts. And just when you think you've died and gone to heaven with all this delicious food and a pot of tea (the vanilla bean is especially good) they bring over an individual souflee for each person. I can rough it just as much as the next guy -- I once went camping for 3 days 2 nights in a tent, hiking around with a 40 pound pack on my back, answering nature's call ... in nature, not showering, and coming home up to my neck in chigger bites, after all. Every once in a while though, it feels amazing to live luxuriously. The Peninsula is truly top-of-the-line. As soon as we set foot in front of the entrance, there was a door man who greeted us while spinning the revolving door. Immediately, everything from the decor to the service made me feel like royalty. What girl doesn't want to be made to feel like a princess? Our hotel room was spacious: there were random unnecessary (but oh-so very necessary) hallways here and there and the bathroom was absolutely humongous with double shower heads and just a lot of empty floor space. The TV in our bedroom area was about a 50 inch and swung out to face the bed. There was also a second TV in the bathroom for when you're on the throne or by the sink. The towels and robes were large and fluffy. The bed was comfy and appeared clean to me. There was a sitting room with a couch up against the window and a spectacular view of the city. Room service was able to provide us with materials for ironing and generously filled toiletry bags. While at dinner, we were discussing making a trip to the nearest convenience store to pick up some water, however upon return to our room, we found that room service had stopped by while we were out to provide us with complimentary water bottles. We were on a tight schedule that weekend; I'm sad that I didn't have a chance to check out the pool that I'd heard so much about or the numerous high end restaurants within the hotel building. Overall, I was, and continue to be, blown away. This is an impressive hotel at a great location. I'm overcome with happiness and a feeling of tranquility just thinking back even... My wife and I stayed at the Peninsula this weekend as a city getaway to relax, eat out and shop. The Peninsula has to be one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at in terms of room quality, level of service, and the location right off Michigan Ave is perfect. Service: check in was a breeze and Mika from the front desk actually escorted us to our room to show us all the features as we stayed in one of their recently renovated deluxe superior rooms that had a lot of Smart tech features. Housekeeping, room service, and basically all your requests/needs could be accessed through tablets provided in the room. Staff stopped by to drop off chocolates in the evening. And when they cleaned the room, it was these small little touches: they put a lens cleaning cloth next to my wife's glasses, they left coasters since they saw we had some drinks we were going to have later, etc etc, fine attention to detail I haven't found anywhere else. Room Quality: for once, a 5 star hotel's room actually looked like the pictures on their website. It literally looked like a luxurious photoshopped room. Large comfortable bed, quality sheets and pillows. Large updated bathroom, large tub and nice shower. Nice decor, accent/mood lighting. Nice changing area with bench. The technology was awesome, it was truly a Smart room. Multiple master tablets in the room could easily control dimming the lights, controlling the tv, turning on music, the temperature, fan, and requesting hotel services. Drawers in the nightstands have outlets and phone chargers. Ambience: high end/classy, elegantly decorated hotel. The lobby restaurant is very picturesque, they had a chocolate buffet going on for the evening. It looked very good but we were stuffed. Romantic hotel for sure. Location: On Superior, right off Michigan Ave shopping. Can't beat it. One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at for leisure/business. Will definitely be coming back again. Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Peninsula Chicago. I really struggled with how many stars to give this hotel because management really did try to make things right. But ultimately this property is just not up to the standards of other Peninsula hotels, so 3 stars it is. Rooms: Our first room, where we stayed for one night, was reminiscent of an old Marriott. The furniture was scuffed and worn, the technology dated, the color scheme reminded me of the 80s. Temperature controls didn't work, the phone didn't work properly, shower fixtures were stuck, etc. We requested a new room but were told the hotel was at full occupancy. On our second night, and after telling management that we were about to check in at a nearby Hyatt, we were moved to a renovated room. Our second room was far more in line with what the hotel should offer to all customers and reminded me of the beautiful Peninsula Paris, where we stayed in August. Definitely an improvement. Service: There were many glitches during our stay, including extremely rude hostesses in the Lobby Lounge when we attempted to enjoy some tea, standoffish concierge, and confusion with our room service order on multiple occasions. Numerous managers were unbelievably apologetic however, and tried to remedy our issues by offering us a complimentary afternoon tea, treats sent to our room, and a discount on our first night. It is only because of the efforts of these managers that I give this property 3 stars. Pricing: The Peninsula Chicago comes at a premium (which all Peninsula hotels do). $600 + for rooms, $16 for oatmeal, $20 for pancakes, etc...this is all fine if the hotel is offering a premium product, which it currently isn't. Overall: It's only due to the kind managers that I give this property 3 stars, otherwise I would give it 1 star. Will we return? Maybe once the hotel renovation is fully complete. The Peninsula Chicago is THE top of the line. The concierge went above and beyond to make my birthday celebration amazing. They surprised us with a birthday cake and chocolates in the room. Our package included early check in, late check out and complimentary breakfast. The hotel was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. The room was spacious and masterfully appointed with high-end electronics, body care products and linens. I could go on and on about how wonderful every aspect of our stay was. Of the 5 star hotels I have stayed in, the Peninsula blows all others out of the water. We WILL be back! read more

Wow. I thought my favorite spa couldn't be topped....but I have to admit that the spa at the Peninsula was top notch. A friend and I visited for a spa day - we had massages and pedicures. We were warmly greeted and shown around the spa, locker room, pool and workout area. Did you know they even have clothes if you don't have yours and want to workout (cool!). We didn't have a lot of time to spare, so we got ready and sat in the relaxation area for a bit. They were very nice as the one area was full and since there were two of us, they wanted to make sure we had time to chat. Therefore, they showed us over to the spot where there was a ton of room. yay! We weren't there long before we were whisked away to treatment rooms. I had a traditional swedish massage and it was wonderful. It may have been the most relaxed I've ever been during a massage and I truly didn't want to leave. But, leave the room I did, off to another treatment - the best pedicure on the planet! Seriously - my feet needed help and they were very taken care of here. I think this is the smoothest I've seen my feet in just about my entire adult life. Wow! Everyone who works there was supremely helpful, friendly and welcoming. They even informed us that we could hang out at the pool while our toes dried and of course, there's a phone to order food/drinks. As it was our belated birthday celebration, we opted for some sparkling wine. It was such a relaxing day - and it ended on a high note - checking out Michigan Ave while sitting by a beautiful pool, sipping wine and chatting. We had a perfect day! Definitely worth it and if you are here, do not pass up the spa. read more
