I came here for a business trip and decided to bring my family along. It was amazing just amazing. Had wonderful breakfast.It was also kid friendly.They had a nice indoor pool and hot tub with a nice view of some buildings.They had a very relaxing spa with a steam room in the locker room and some showers. The Peninsula Tea is the best high tea experience in Chicago. My friends and I have had a holiday tea there for the last 10 years. But....this year the food selections were disappointing. We did not care for the bland beef sandwich, lobster roll or sweet carrot quiche. The traditional egg salad and salmon tea sandwiches were missed.. The thinly sliced cucumber sandwich was divine. I had a hard time deciding between the Langham and the Peninsula, but I'm so glad I ended up going with the Peninsula. The rooms are spacious and beautiful. The staff are warm and welcoming. I love their specially curated lotion that is made specific for each city. During my stay, I had high-tea - which is a must at any Peninsula locations. I had planned a glorious vacation for the both of us my mom. Her grandmother, my mother passed away this year in August. This was going to be our first Christmas without my mom and my daughter's grandmother.. So I had planned this great luxury two person massage at the peninsula in Chicago for December 24th Christmas Eve at 11 AM.. Most of my friends and colleagues had been there and they really recommended The Peninsula spa. Well, for me, it wasn't a great experience. The staff was not welcoming or warm people. And our appointment was abruptly canceled due to one of the massage therapist was in an fender bender and was going to be 30 minutes to an hour late. Needless to say we were on a tight itinerary and couldn't. Della Torres stopped by to apologize and said she sent me an email offering maybe a discount rate. Well, I never heard from Ms. Torres and never received an email of an apology or a discount rate. So, I decided to call today and spoke with the assistant director I think her name Mannon. Sorry I didn't get the correct spelling. I told her about my experience and she assured me she was going to rectify the situation that this was not the peninsula standards. And she would call me back today by 4 PM. Well I never heard back from her at all. I'm very disappointed and how I was treated. My daughter was disappointed and I just can't believe these are the standards of the peninsula spa. I haven't written a public review hoping that the situation would be rectified and I'd get a genuine apology. I am am executive in the customer service management profession And, I would definitely want my staff to reach out to me if something happened like this at my company. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. I stayed here for my 50th birthday. It was my first time treating myself to a 5-star experience. I felt like a Queen the whole time I was there. The ambiance of the hotel took me back in time to circa 1940's - when hotel staff wore uniforms and addressed you by name each time they saw you. My room was the Grand Premier King room. The things that impressed me about the room are: 1. The iPad that controls everything (climate, lighting, tv, privacy requests, messages, etc). 2. The deep, soaking tub which I took a bubble bath in daily. 3. The wet bar complete with wine and China for your morning coffee. 4. The balloons and birthday cake waiting for me when I entered the room. 5. The doorbell. 6. I loved the robe and slippers and wore them daily. So comfortable! I felt like I was in a one bedroom apartment, the room was so spacious. The tv screen was huge! I also had a massage at the spa there. My massage therapist spent an hour on my neck, shoulders, and back at my request and relieved a lot of tension that had built up there. It was one of the best massages I've ever had. The customer service was impeccable. Everyday when I left my room - even if I was only gone 2 hours - when I returned, my room was clean. They also provided turn-down service so when I returned from dinner the room had been freshened up. Each day, someone would ring my doorbell and inquire if I needed anything. Staying at this hotel made my 50th birthday special and unforgettable! I highly recommend you stay here when visiting Chicago. We've stayed here a couple of times last year mainly because we were scared of air travel due to covid. Their service from checking in to the cleanliness of the room and attentiveness of the staff are top notch! They have Penchat which I think is very helpful when you need help on something or like making a reservation. The only downside I think, it's not a deal breaker, it is so hard to get a reservation at their Shanghai terrace restaurant. I Wish they will prioritize the hotel guests first. The spa and pool staff are also very accommodating. We will back in a couple of months, can't wait! read more

Stayed here for a weekend. Decor is regal and artsy, amenities are as expected for a hotel of this caliber with my personal highlight being the steam room and pool which is great for young parents. This is our favorite hotel in Chicago downtown! We've tried all the other 5-star hotels and this has the best service. We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary here last March 30-31, 2024 and they gave us a Taittinger champagne, finger food, nuts, cheese, chocolate-covered strawberries and even a chocolate bunny. Our son and his family stayed here too for his kids' spring break. My grandkids had an awesome time, mostly at the pool. They had scavenger hunt and Easter egg hunt with a great prize if you find the golden egg! The staff are super friendly and attentive to all our needs. They would have breakfast delivered to them by the pool. The staff would set up the table and silverware by the pool. Where else can you find service like that! Great staff, great hotel! Everything is just superb at the Peninsula. The staff at the entrance are kind and helpful , the entrance is always decorated beautifully and just wait until you get up to the lovely lobby! I decided to stay at the Peninsula for Thanksgiving this year : with the main goal being great vegan/vegetarian food , a soak in the tub , and some time in the Bar which makes the best old fashioned ever ! The staff, the amenities , the quality of service and the vegan food options are all top notch . Not to mention the holiday decor for thanksgiving and the next morning ...everything had magically transformed to Christmas . Our favorite hotel in the US so far. Every detail is perfect. Service is nice and friendly, offer an umbrella when it's raining, actively help you to get the tax during the peak hours. Room was beautiful and very comfortable. It has Asian style wallpaper, elegant tea wares, money tree little plant. Functionality in the room is designed very well, outlet closed to the bed, smart system/remote to control the room, towels, shampoo/conditioner are very high quality. I like them a lot and was asking to buy some stuff in the room. Room service cleans well and put a little wash cloth under my skincare products after organizing them. Every little detail shows the hotel cares and pays a lot of attention to their business. Dining at the hotel is also nice. I enjoyed the peaceful breakfast time in the lobby. Growing up in Chicago I long fantasized about one day staying at The Peninsula Hotel in Chicago... It's where all the celebrities, sports teams, and even rock legends like Dave Matthews stay when they are in Chicago for a show. Between you and me, I even went as far as visiting the hotel bar in my mid-20's pretending that I was staying the night in the hotel. This isn't just A hotel in Chicago, even a fancy one -- it's THE hotel in Chicago. So, it makes sense that this particular hotel would be tops on my list of dream hotel experiences. But this level of hype and anticipation also leaves a LOT of room for disappointment. Could The Peninsula live up to my incredibly lofty expectations? Without a doubt, my stay at The Peninsula in Chicago for my wedding was the best stay I've ever had at a hotel in my entire life. And coming from someone that now lives in Orange County California (which is pretty fancy) and frequents opulent hotels, that's saying a lot. The level of class and elegance that radiated out of every crook and crevice of this establishment was mind blowing. From the valet to the front desk, the house cleaning, concierge, and even the general manager... ...who by the way, hand wrote us a card wishing us a wonderful wedding with a complimentary bottle of champagne. This place was INCREDIBLE! To deepen the point, I'll leave you with two quick examples: 1. At 8pm the night before our wedding, my beautiful bride decided she wanted her dress steamed for the ceremony the next day. I didn't think it was possible, but the concierge had it back in our room by 9am the next day. Unbelievable. 2. The day of our wedding, we were having some problems securing a late night "after party" spot for our guests for some post-reception drinks. The concierge got us an entire corner of the Z Bar balcony facing Water Tower. Again, just impeccable. And because I'm on a roll, the next day after the wedding a nice woman at the front desk flagged us down as we were leaving to tell us how wonderful we both looked and to ask us how the wedding was. The next time I come back to Chicago, I'm staying at The Peninsula even if it's only for a night. In fact, I'm going to start making excuses (I mean reasons) to use on my wife as to why we have to go back to Chicago just so we can stay at this incredibly luxurious and unbelievably opulent hotel. It's worth every single penny. Their attention to detail is impressive even for me and if you're a business owner or entrepreneur -- it will make you rethink how you deliver value and service to your clients or customers. Stopped in for a late breakfast at The Lobby and the food was impeccable. The steel cut oatmeal along with the sides of sliced bananas, mixed berries, assorted dried fruit/nut mix, and chicken sausage were all delicious. We stayed at suite 1616, facing Madison Avenue and I got to tell you it's a great decision! Room is spacious and comes with everything and beyond. We stayed a total of 5 nights and both my husband and I didn't want to leave because we were very spoiled by The Peninsula staff. Spa is busy while we were there, so if you are planning to get a massage, don't wait until the last minute, make a reservation at least a week before. We couldn't get a couple massage at the spa, so Gary from Concierge brought the spa to our suite! It was very private and one of the best I've ever had! They sent two certified Masseuses to our room and I would totally do it again! Everyone is responsive and available when we needed them. Top notch service! read more

Giving this property 5 stars however there are two points they should clear up in order to truly qualify as 5. Starting with the positive... the staff are very informative and accommodating. The rooms are complete with all the finer touches including a fully supplied and working desk area with office supplies, laser printer and plenty of light. My room had three tablets (one on the desk and one each on the nightstand) that tied together all room functions including thermostat, fan, tv, audio, door privacy/housekeeping strings and room lights. It's also the home base for room service, valet, in room dining and a lot more. It's a great little device however one of mine kept running out of battery and although I called to have it repaired, nobody followed up. The TV control also was fully functioning on the tablet and sometimes I just missed having a normal remote control. The bed is comfy and the bathroom amenities are nice however no iron u less you call for it specifically. Housekeeping is outstanding - with special touches such as adding a ribbon to tie up your iPhone cables. Really thought they did a great job. The two areas of attention are valet which is overpriced at $75/night. My daily car rental was less expensive than the parking at the hotel. Totally ridiculous and unacceptable. This is Chicago, not NYC. The other is the sound leaking through the windows. The hotel sits in an area off Michigan Avenue - although desirable from a shopping and tourist perspective, it's also home of a major hospital or two and therefore very active with fire and ambulance sirens at all hours of the day and night with a frequency of one per hour or so. It woke me up every night and they can easily fix this by thickening the glass in the windows. The Z Bar is open to the public and unfortunately as a guest, you get zero preferential treatment. The main dining room is beautiful with windows that look out to another building. read more

What's not to say about this exquisite establishment; I could make this review overly lengthy with praise or basically sum it up. The rooms are top notch with EVERY little touch you could possibly imagine, it's super clean and classy but not stuffy and it's perfectly located in the heart of downtown. The staff are amazing & I mean ALL of them; to their attire, their pleasantness and their acute attention to detail. Here is an example, (there are many) of how detailed they are; ' I left my phone charger cord on the desk and when I returned to the room it was neatly coiled and tied with a grey ribbon'!! I have stayed in some nice hotels and the Peninsula ranks up there with the best of them. Funnnnn fest x 10!! Since it's officially been 2 years today, figured I might as well finish this review. Birthdays are a pretty big deal for me: not that I wanna be celebrated. I just love life! And of course the day I was given life! (Cheesy AF) whatever!! Sooo! For my birthday meal!!! We flew to Chicago for Alinea's kitchen table meal!! 6 girls!!! $$$$$$$$! And got in without that 1 year wait list!! Yep! It pays to know the chefs! And it pays to also support the chefs!! So! It was let's go to lunch! Let's talk food! Oh should we do Alinea? Have that chef table moment for 3 Michelin's star restaurant? Let's fly and have a $4,000 dinner! Ok done! All of this happened in less than 8 hours! Hotel picking was however much more longer process. But we all agreed on this!!! And I'm so glad. Pricier than other spots few of us girls suggested but it was well worth it. The location! The views! The entrance! The bed!! One of my friend loves getting her bottles of water delivered everyday! Like a dozen! And I love getting unlimited amount of nespresso! Caffeine addiction ftw! Also love a few/several birthday cakes I got from here! First when we enter! Yey! Second at the bar!! The last one was also at the bar downstairs and I nearly missed my flight for it. Totally worth it though. My bar tender even wrote happy birthday khaleesi on it! Yes, that's my name and I'm sticking with it! Overall, it was a memorable stay! Beautiful amenities! We are currently staying for my hubby's 34th birthday. PRO's: The hotel is spotless and the housekeeping team is nothing short of AMAZING. I've stayed at a lot of top of the line hotels and the team here anticipates your every need and made my family feel so comfortable here. Second to none. The welcome amenities for my 7 month old included a cute little bear. My 13 year old was given some popcorn and candy--he loved it! The person who brought it was very kind. The coffee is perfect and they keep it stocked for you. The housekeeping staff made my son's sofa bed every evening with fresh sheets, and put it away each morning. He loved it. Did I mention how great their team is? Again, they are absolutely wonderful. Bed is very comfortable. The crib must be too, because my baby slept really well here. We ordered a swing to the hotel because we were worried about him sleeping, but we didn't need it. CON's: We would've liked a baby blanket for my baby. They gave us a crib with sheets only. Also, we had to special request baby toiletries. They knew we had a baby coming and he has to bathe and stay warm too...the adults are automatically given blankets and toiletries, babies should be no different. Oddly, at night it would get really hot and we would wake up in a sweat, then in the morning it would get really cold in the room. The Z bar. Pretentious. We stopped in on my hubby's birthday and ordered drinks that never came. We asked about the status of the drinks 30 minutes in and she came back ten minutes later to say they weren't ready yet!! We waited another ten minutes and left. That definitely wasn't the birthday treatment we expected. The concierge....ugh. I stopped by to ask about the best place to get a deep dish pizza. He named a place and I mentioned I saw they only had 3 stars on yelp, which was why I came to him for a better option. He basically told me I should just go on yelp then. I felt like he snubbed me. I felt really unwelcome after that and mentioned it to management. They sent us a couple beers and birthday chocolate. I would've preferred better service to begin with. Room service--they forgot part of our first order on the first day and the second order on our third day came ten minutes after the promised delivery time, and they were perfectly okay with serving us melted ice cream! So, there are definitely some inconsistencies in that area, and it wasn't just a fluke. All in all, if we come back to Chicago we'd stay here again. This hotel was a huge disappointment. Given the amount you pay , it certainly doesn't feel like a five star experience. Not to mention some things are falsely advertised online. During covid majority of the amenities are off limits and no one shared this info during the booking. The room rates are still the same. Despite being a guest at the hotel you can't get a reservation at the restaurants..even though they claim their guests are their priority. I brought my mother here for a belated birthday gift and overall was hugely disappointed. I will not be returning or recommending this to any friends or friends. This review is for the spa only, not the hotel! Over the weekend, I celebrated my birthday at the hotel, and booked a facial treatment. The experience was not good, and now I have been wrongly charged for services. When I got to the spa, I was asked if I wanted my celebratory champagne before or after. I asked for before. I told the attendent I had a gift card, and gave her a printed copy of it. I never got the chamapgne as I waited for my facial, and my technician was 10 minutes late. When I went to check out, the attendenant did not adjust my bill to include my gift certicate. When I pointed it out to her, the attendant began to adjust, when another couple came in. She then stopped adjusting my transaction to help them check in for their appointment, I asked to please void the original and start over, as she clearly was distracted. I was then billed twice for my treatment and can't get anyone on the phone. read more

Our family part takes in a yearly tradition at the Drake hotel for their tea time. Over the years, I have been disappointed with the quality of their service and food. This year we went to the Peninsula Hotel. The Lobby (where tea time is located) is not as grand as the room at the Drake, however, the quality food and service was outstanding. The Peninsula is priced at $95pp $45 per child which is more than what The Drake charges, however, it was well worth it if you are willing to spend the extra bucks for the experience. Spent a staycation day and night at the Pen. Can I call it the Pen? I want to feel like a regular there because we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I had visited for Afternoon Tea (5 stars easily) but this was the first time to enjoy the hotel and other amenities. After reserving a night there, I was able to book pool time at the spa. Currently they offer family time of 2 hour blocks. The most people at the pool at one time was 10, but for the most part it was only 5 or 6. So me and my son had one half of the pool to ourselves. The pool has gorgeous tall windows with a view of Michigan avenue and there is a small terrace where I enjoyed some fresh air and sunshine. The room was perfect size, a whole other person could stay in the closet-no kidding. The bathroom was amazing with a sunken tub, separate glass enclosed shower and private toilet. The bed was so comfortable, Im sure Im not the first to say I wish I had the same linens, comforter and pillows at home! Service was friendly and professional from the first call to reserve, to check in, to valet, to check out. Once we checked in, I just stepped out of my room to get a bucket of ice and a steward saw me and took the bucket from me and brought it back full of ice. I'm not used to that kind of service. Wow. I'm spoiled now! Worth the splurge. It might be hard to stay at our usual hotels and airbnb when we travel now. read more

We honestly love this place so much we have been coming here the past few years and no other hotel seems to compare, from the clean modern big rooms, (designer toiletries ) to the friendly staff and all the perks and amenities that really make staying there so comfortable and inviting, we spent our third night this time just soaking in the very modern tub with the tv in the wall(lol nice touch) to watching tv shows and eating room service all day watching the snowfall outside the window. I also got a chance to get a pedicure at the spa on the 20th floor and Lesy did not disappoint. We stayed at the peninsula Chicago for our one year wedding anniversary and everything was miraculous! All the employees are super happy positive and helpful. My husband ordered flowers from the concierge and made sure that they arrived and were in the room they're absolutely gorgeous. We had champagne with chocolate covered strawberries! We ordered the peninsula club with fries and chips and that was super yummy. The spa is very nice and pool is beautiful. We came here for my husband's aunt's wedding on Saturday evening. It's a beautiful hotel. We checked out the Z Bar since we arrived early. The event was at the Grand Ballroom on the 4th floor. The servers were amazing, I've never felt more like a VIP where they were so eager to serve me alcohol and appetizers while we were outside at the terrace for the cocktail hour. I also really appreciate all of the employees for wearing their masks properly the entire time, since all of us took ours off for pictures and mingling. The actual ballroom venue was spacious, with a huge dance floor, and there were several employees making food while guests helped themselves to the buffet style meals. They're also pretty quick about grabbing your empty glass and plates (several times throughout the evening, I smiled and told them I was still working on it). read more

Not to mention just about everything inside is spotless. While we only stayed a night for a convention that was downtown, it was easily one of the most relaxing stays I've had at a hotel. Whether you're looking to get caught up in all the action downtown Chicago has to offer or utilize the spa treatments and all the amenities the hotel has to offer, the Peninsula Chicago has a little bit of everything for everyone. The gym, spa, pool up on the 20th was great. They have locker rooms with push number codes, towels, robes, flip flops, showers, and everything you need to get cleaned up after using the spa or gym/pool. While I would've preferred a room on a higher floor, our King bedroom was great and had an ample amount of natural light. Bathroom is spacious, plenty of closet space to store your clothes and keep items out of the way, and the carpet throughout felt sooo clean. I usually wear slippers when I walk around a hotel, but for here I didn't feel like I had to. It is a dog friendly hotel, and while we had mentioned it on the reservation they made sure there was a nice, clean, and fluffy doggie bed available upon our arrival. I loved how the front desk mentioned, "I hope the room will be okay for Chopin" at check in. Our dog definitely felt at home here! The bed was comfy, the blinds were blackout so no trouble falling asleep, and loved they had tablets throughout to control the lights. Spare chargers in drawers in case you forgot yours, and they have just about every input available to hook your device to the speakers/tv. Anyways, nothing but good things to say about this one and they've definitely thought about everything you need to enjoy your stay and more. It's definitely on the pricier end of hotels we've stayed at. But if you're looking for something in downtown Chicago to stay that's nothing short of spectacular... look no further! What a gorgeous hotel! My friend had her wedding here this weekend and everything was beautiful from start to finish. Their suite was huge with beautiful views and technology up the wazoo. Lights, temperature, music and just about everything was handled through an ipad. There was a fancy espresso maker but we couldn't figure out how to work it following instructions --- only hot water came out. There was even a TV above the large bathtub! Don't eat the candy bars though...their mini bar prices are astronomical! $5 for a Reese's. If you are staying here and require chocolate, call me up and I'll bring you a hella lot more than 4 candy bars for $20. We valeted the car and asked them to bring up my friend's wedding dress. They went slightly overboard bringing up toilet paper I had picked up from CVS earlier that day, too. Highly embarrassing and they must have thought we had serious bathroom issues. :( Their ceremony was beautiful, cocktail hour on the patio was wonderful and the dinner following went really smoothly, as well. All of the staff at The Peninsula was incredibly accommodating and on top of everything for my lovely friends' special day. We spent a week at the Peninsula for spring break. This was my first time to Chicago and this hotel did not disappoint. The restaurants were delicious and service was wonderful with everyone we came across. Everything about this place was understated lux, service felt genuine, and surprisingly unpretentious. It was, dare I say, near perfection. My only complaint was that the technology that controlled the rooms was a little limiting in what we could control, for instance zones of lighting versus individual fixtures. This posed a challenge when trying to get our daughter to sleep with dimmed lighting, and to balance enough light while we were still awake afterwards. Ultimately though, we made it work just fine. Hands down I would stay here again, and if we could stay at another Peninsula in another city I would jump at the chance. read more

Well until now, the Four Seasons in Toronto was my favorite hotel. A friend suggested we stay here the next time we were in Chicago. We stayed here for 3 wonderful days. The price isn't cheap, but you absolutely get what you pay for, and they treat you like royalty. The valet was very courteous when we arrived. Their uniforms are very crisp and clean and cute. I love the hats! The foyer was beautiful! We had to take another floor to the reception area. All of the employees are so cute and well groomed. This is a Chinese Luxury hotel from what I understand. They do not miss any details. We were upgraded because of some special that I wasn't aware of, and received chocolate covered strawberries as part of the special. :) Now the room... It was so beautiful and bright and spotless. The bed was very comfortable, and the linens are the best. The bathroom had the nicest smelling Oscar De La Renta soaps, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. A drawer with a comb, hair bonnet, sewing kit and cotton, plenty of towels and washclothes, robes and a second mirror with a vanity area and stool. Perfect! When we returned from dinner, the cords to my phone and curling iron were wrapped neatly in ribbons! There was also a cute little box of very delicious chocolates and a couple of waters. I called for an iron and board, and they brought them along with a water bottle for misting and a small can of starch. I also really enjoyed watching their tv channel that talks about the hotel and others in other countries. The last night I was sick, so I stayed in the room while the hubs went to dinner with friends. Housekeeping came and I said I wasn't feeling well so there's no need to turn down the bed since I was in it. They smiled and asked if I needed anything. They were genuinely sincere! I said my hubs was bringing water later, so they then gave me 4 waters and some washcloths. So very sweet and thoughtful! Wonderful girls- thank you! My only sadness was that because I was under the weather, we didn't explore the spa, or pool or the restaurant. We did enjoy high tea with friends the first day, and it was just lovely, as tea is my favorite! Every business could learn from this hotel. Attention to detail, kindness and cleanliness was first class all the way. The staff always had a smile, and were very sweet and happy. We will return again, and we will tell everyone about this place! A hidden gem in Chicago! read more

Very beautiful hotel with luxurious rooms and amenities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay until checkout when we realized over $20,000 worth of jewelry had been stolen from our room. My diamond earrings were not in the safe so they are not covering the loss based on Innskeeper's Laws, which is very disappointing but ultimately my fault. We had an unpleasant experience with the rooftop restaurant as well so it's difficult to recommend this establishment. Again, the hotel is beautiful and the people are very nice. Unfortunately so nice they help themselves to your belongings. read more
