Do I leave bad reviews? No. Things don't really bother me that easily, but a situation at Phoenix rubbed me the wrong way so I'm sharing it with you all :) I was there with my 2 friends, we each got a drink and sat down at the tables by the door. I told my friends I was going to use the bathroom I come back to my friends telling me they looked away for a second and then my drink was gone I said ok, they probably thought it was left by someone who left. I went and told the employee at the bar, he brought over the manager or whoever he was. I explained that when I came back from the bathroom my drink was gone - literally only had a few sips of it, so, I was wondering if I could get another one! An ordinary ask for this situation I would say? "Why weren't your friends watching your drink?" "You should have told them to watch it" "What were they doing?" "Put a napkin over your drink when you leave and that wouldn't have happened " At this point I didn't even want another drink because of the accusations and unnecessary questions as if I was lying to this man Basically, the guy could have said, "Sure ill get you another one because that happened" or politely declined. From the photos, I thought this place was really bright but it was super dark inside. Very large interior with coolish decor. The bartender, Julia, was amazing. I just recently started going to The Phoenix after going for a date night once there. I live in walking distance so it's a perfect pick-me up after a long day at work. The drinks are relatively cheap and they have great whisky. It's a classy atmosphere that is cozy with dim lighting. For a Monday there were more people than I had expected. A cute date spot with tasty margaritas! Parking is a little hard unless you find parking on the street and pay. I parked in the Coffee Bean parking lot and prayed I would be fine. read more

It takes a lot for me to write a review. I was there last Friday night and brought 50 people with me to celebrate a big life event. I had my 77 year old mom with me and the treatment we got at the door by their security/bouncer/ID checker was the worst and most disappointing display of human treatment I've ever experienced in my life. My mom, who can't hear well and didn't know she had to give him her ID was called "catty and entitled" and then when I tried to let him know that's not the case, we're not those kind of people and it's a misunderstanding, he looks down on her condescendingly and says loudly , " DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH??" To which she (now anxious and intimidated) sheepishly responds, "yes." He yells, "THEN YOU CAN HEAR ME." I looked at him and said "hey man, that's my mom. She's not able to respond as quickly in her age." He looks at me aloof and says "oh, you just want to get the last word, huh?" I said, "no. I'm just trying to clarify that this is uncalled for." I'll tell you, in hindsight I should have pulled my entire crew from this establishment but didn't want to make a scene, even though he was more than ready to himself. I was in the service industry myself for years and have never seen that level of disrespect from an employee to a customer in my life. I will never bring a large group or a small group to this spot again and will definitely tell people to steer clear of that awful, toxic energy that you have as the face and first thing someone deals with on their way in to a place that should be positive and celebratory. I wish I could leave zero stars. Where do I start, we went 9/6 for some fun. We walked over as we will live down the street and wanted to try this place out. The bartenders are awful. Coming from a former bartender. The girl who was bartending was drama. Rolling her eyes at how busy she was. (It wasn't that busy. I've seen busier) she was drama. Causing drama. Took an awful long time chatting with patrons. Then complaining. She had major bad vibes. It was like she couldn't complete a task as I watched her make drinks.. she attempts to make multiple drinks at once but leaves things unattended in the shaker and the drinks get watered down. I watched this for thirty min. Also major big No no behind the bar. Glass was broken it flying over the bar and hit me on my shoulder could of made it in the ice. You are suppose to burn that ice. And put in fresh ice. They didn't. The bar back and chick bartender shrugged and went about their business..the amount fails going on where so bad I lost count. . Finally literally 30 min later we got out 3 drinks. One beer, one Paloma (that was premade) and a casamigo and soda. Super simple that took 30 min. Also the lady bartender complained and whining the whole time stopped to take a shot cuz she's soooo stressed out. Can't take the heat get out. No but really she was the worst. And they where all bad. So for the second round o went to opposite side. Thinking it would be better... well it was quicker way quicker way better vibes from the male bartender with a laker hat. It was fast.. however when I went to close out. He couldn't find my tab or my card. Attempted to blame me for saying well hey I never charge you. As if he did me a favor. Didn't bother to look for my card and blamed me for saying I lost it and never gave it to him. Rude. I can't stand place that doesn't take accountability for their mistakes. So I was forced to leave without my card. I called left messages and got no reply. I had to show up and what do you know I see my card behind the bar counter first thing I walked in. Which was weird. To just leave it out on the open like that. I would never go back. Bad customer service and these bartenders are awful. Don't recommend this place. read more

He made sure we had everything we needed for our celebration, We chose to provide appetizers for our guests Buffet style and the food was delicious! I had an event here last night and everything was perfect from beginning to end. Kelian was who helped me reserve the space, I believe he's the manager. He was very responsive and was happy to accommodate us. He gave us the back area patio. When I arrived they had out tables reserved and the bartender greeted me as soon as I walked in. Kay was our assigned server and she was absolutely fantastic! Super attentive and always available. We were a party of 20+ and none of us ever had to go in search of her. We specifically asked for drinks on the happy hour menu, but the bartender made us a drink with their "top shelf" whiskey. On top of that, the bartender was rude and had cut me off when I was trying to talk, then proceeds to go to the other side of the bar to help other customers. Days later, I checked my credit card statements and realized my total on the bill was altered. She added an additional $5 tip! Luckily, I was able to dispute the additional cost that was charged on my end with my bank. $5 is nothing, but it's the whole principle of this situation. If you are going to be rude to me AND alter my bill, that's a big NO for me. Everyone, please keep your receipts and be sure to check if your statements align with your receipts. The Phoenix on La Cienega used to be one of my favorites and I'd been wanting to check out this new incarnation for sometime. I came here last night with a friend on a Friday night around 8 pm. It was quiet when we first got here and were able to grab two seats at the bar. The atmosphere is gorgeous! I loved the decor and ambience. It felt like we were transported back in time. Got some 1920s/prohibition type of vibes here. The bartenders are super friendly and attentive. Even as the night got busier, they were always on track. I ended up getting the Codeine and 3rd Street Elyxir. Codeine was the better drink and the bartenders also said it was their favorite as well. The clientele here is trendy and upscale. Lots of well dressed people, good looking people. The music did get louder as the night went on, but it wasn't too loud that we couldn't hear each other. And, the music selection was great! There are very limited food options and not much vegetarian wise. I didn't order anything, but my friend did get the fries. They looked great. I would've given this place 5 stars if there was more on the menu. Also, I do miss the Jenga and Connect 4 from the old location! But, it is more of a lounge than than the other location was so I get how the games wouldn't work into the atmosphere. Overall, a really good time. I set up two happy hour events here last year and just did one here on last Wednesday night. Couldn't be happier with the place, food, drinks or service. The process of setting up the event was seamless. The communication and professionalism of Mac was top notch. I would and will do an other event here. Arrived at the Phoenix and greeted nicely. Adam the bartender & manager introduced himself to me. We ironed out any additional details and kicked off my event. We used the back room next to the patio which was perfect for our group of 18-20 people. The food- We had skirt steak, fries, 2 types of chicken wings, large pretzels & some sort of shrimp dish (popcorn?). All the dishes were very good. The steak was served with mushroom it was well marinated and a huge hit with the group. The fries are really good!! cooked perfectly salted with hints of truffle? loved them!! The chicken wings one buffalo and one thai were good typical bar food nothing amazing but would order and eat again. The Shrimp dish I didn't try but the group liked it and there was nothing left. Drinks- We only did beer and wine and I enjoyed one type of beer. They have a great selection on tap. I enjoyed the pilsner which was smooth with a kiss of hops and bitterness it was a real good beer. other members of the group had ale and sours they seemed to like it very much also. On a previous visit I had some cocktails which were really good esp the Dublin Donkey. Overall- really cool vibe, nice friendly staff, good food and great drink selection. Whiskey Bar located on the popular 3rd street; among other bars and good eats ... Walked into a nice layout, great ambiance, dim lighting with a large center bar. The bartenders (two at the time) were immediate in welcoming us as we walked in. It was a Sunday night and was pretty slow so the Bartender, Adam, gave me and my friend full attention. Adam was a super nice guy, educated on his booze and gave his recommendation based on mine and his personal similarities in whiskey / scotch that we have both tried and liked. Being that The Phoenix has only opened a little less than 6 months ago and walking distance from my friends house, Adam was nice to take me out back to show me the rest of the venue and go over busy and slow nights. Perfect patio area with an open/closed seating area with tv's in the back, so do not forget to take a walk back there. Definitly worth a bookmark and walk from my friends house when I visit her. Whiskey, Bourbon and Scotch is on the menu, and there is plenty of it! Definitely my type of bar and enough for you to keep drinking, wondering, and probably coming back if you are a fan. Food options seemed pretty basic, nothing that caught my eye, and not many meat-free options, unfortunately. Our bartender was helpful enough, but must have been really tired or something? The crowd is pretty laid back and chill, and the space is perfect. I've been twice and each time the DJ was different, first it was a guy who played everything under the sun. He was very talented. The last time I was there was this past Friday and there was a young lady handling the tunes, she was talented also, she played a lot of throwback mellow music than everyone can vibe to. Despite how it looks like from outside this is actually a decently sized place. Even so, it can get quite packed on a weekend night so I recommend getting there before 11pm to avoid a line on a Saturday night. They offer valet parking for $5.50 halfway down the block by Tocca Modera, but make sure you ask for validation or parking will be $9. The vibe of the lounge is really nice. Trendy but not ostentatious. It is dark and loud, but maybe that means I am just getting old! But the DJ last Saturday night was playing a great mix of music of the early 2000s to now, which seemed appropriate for the crowd of late 20s to late 30s. There is an outside patio with standing heaters for cold-ish LA nights, if the inside gets too crowded. read more

I love the decor and ambiance here (who knew this place used to be a Persian rug store!) This place fits very well with all the other trendy restaurants in the area and is a great spot for happy hour after work! Check out the backyard patio area if you have a larger group :) They have a huge liquor and cocktail menu here, with a huge selection of scotch (for you scotch lovers). In terms of food, I've had the skirt steak, ribeye, and the Phoenix house salad. They were all very delicious! I've been here two times now and will definitely keep coming back.
