I wanted to give a good review. the ambiance is really nice (although being it Monday night, very empty), the location is good, and the whisky menu is a solid 8 or maybe even 9. But the audacity of the server's can't give it more than 2 stars, and perhaps that too is to generous. The waitress did two mistakes: 1. And this can be forgiven - she gave me a full pour when I asked for whisky, without specifying that. that could be as much my blame as hers, so I will let it be. For this reason alone, I would have been okay with this place. 2. Looking at my bill, I saw a whopping $57 charge for a (really good) Ohishi whisky. There are two of those in the menu, once costs (full pour) $20, the other $23. the one I wanted and asked for was the $20 Ohishi Brandy finish. The bar-tender didn't know which one is which. I took a look at the bottle, and assumed one of the two (because of the proof). I might have been wrong, but if so - I was $3 wrong, not $37 wrong. when I told her this is wrong, her answer was a very angry - "I showed you the bottle and you chose", for which my answer was along the lines "yes, but you're the bar-tender, and you should actually know what whisky is what". Her response was yelling at me, telling me that I am not welcome any more and should never show my face around. I asked her to talk, so I could actually show her where I am coming from, but she was too angry, and just told me to go away, after removing the whole $57 charge (at least that). The experience was very bad. I will not be coming back, and LA, thankfully has many many more bar options than this one. I don't think I ever had a server treat me so angrily before, after trying to cheat me our of $37. Shame on you Phoenix, seriously. read more

These guys do it again! It is sexy! I have only been here at nights and will definitely come during the earlier hours as well. They have a great patio, great whiskey selections, and great cocktails! BEST WHISKEY place to go in town!!! Their selection is incredible, and they really know their drinks. They curate their imports from around the world and have a huge, wide selection. ATMOSPHERE- I went here twice--once on a weekend and one on a Thursday nigh. If you want a super chill vibe, go on a weekday. If you want more of a happening place, go during the weekend where it's full of people. I love the decor--sort of reminds me of a great gatsby deco with its gilded gold at the bar, but sort of stylish and modern with its tree stump tables and leather. It's more intimate at the bar while the back is a lot more open and social. FOOD- GET THE RIBEYE. It was my FAVORITE. So tender and marinated just right. Grilled zucchini was on point. We also had the Rosemary garlic fries that were fresh hot and extra crispy. We also had their specialty pasta with egg and which was also good. DRINKS- So this is really their specialty, and they have a lot of knowledge. When we asked for recos, they were really great at explaining all the drinks. I'm usually a straightforward drinker but I tried their Pokemon cocktail out of pure silliness and it was pretty good, a bit sweet if you need a bit of sugar. I also had their Jim beam's bonded whisky which was bomb. SERVICE- I had the best service here. The wait staff was incredibly friendly and were on it. I even had a chance to talk with Shawn, the manager who greeted and introduced himself to me. He's super chill and explained a lot of the drinks to us which was great. He mentioned they just opened and will be rolling out events like Sunday Funday. Anyway, overall, I give it a huge thumbs up. Amazing spot! We were going to Toca Madera but they said they were full. We came next door to the Phoenix and it was great! Great drinks and such a good vibe. I don't remember the bartenders name but she was really awesome! She told us she works Fridays and Saturdays. Another customer was being really rude to her for no reason but she handled it well and did not let it affect her. She took care of the other guests and was really nice to everyone. Another great bar of the Goat Group LLC. The indoor and outdoor areas make this place quite comfortable. Before reaching the outdoor section there is a open space that turns to a nice dance floor. Cocktails are quite pricey ($17 for a mezcal negroni) and not necessarily exceptionally crafted. However the reason I am a fan is for the nice whisky and bourbon selection, I was pretty astonished to discovery such variety in a bar that is not labeling itself as specialized for such liquor. It is definitely a nice little gem in this neighborhood and highly recommend it if you want to have a beer or whisky and then shake your body on a small dance floor. The music was plush not to crowd the bartender actually made my Lynchburg correct with bourbon not Jack Daniels using fresh ruby red lemoade. This review is for Friday nights-- they're a bit more mellow than Saturday's but still have that fun weekend "party vibe" with a DJ and all that. If you go a bit earlier in the night and manage to catch the kitchen while it's open (till 11 I think), then definitely order the skirt steak and garlic fries! Phoenix is a pretty awesome bar around Beverly Grove that offers something fun for everyone. Came by on a Sunday night and place was pretty popping. Definitely a great vibe for people in mid-upper 20s. The indoors is dimly lit and cozy, with a neat bar and a couple of tables. There's also a small dance floor with live DJs playing. They seemed to be playing reggaeton while we were there, but I can definitely see the place getting more lit with some throwback hip-hop. If this doesn't sound like your cup of tea so far, there's a chill outdoor area that's pretty spacious and has plenty of seating. Came here last night and was pretty disappointed with our experience. The bar was extremely crowded with no place to stand. Finally, we made our way to the bar where the bartender served us the most watered down cocktails. We ordered vodka sodas and she poured soda water 95% of the glass and topped it off with a tiny splash of water. Not worth the money. The worst part of the night was they allowed people to smoke inside where the DJ booth was. There are large doors that were opened to the big back patio but people continued to smoke inside. Why would I pay $17 for a terrible well margarita when 5 doors down the expensive Mexican place charges less for a much better margarita. Fun spot. I remember having a great time at their place on la cienega before it closed. Drinks are good pours and the vibe is cool. There was only one bartender behind the main bar so there was a little wait to get a drink but the atmosphere and scene more than made up.
