Left within one minute of walking in. I asked for a table for two. The hostess (read: old, cold, evil witch) said, "Look at the clock." We did. It said 4:30pm. We realized they did not open until 5pm. She easily could have said they did not open until 5pm, or she could have told us the restaurant bar was open and offered a limited menu. She did not, so we left. Evil Hostess, look up at your Yelp Review. You got as many stars as there is kindness in your heart. Apologies to the management and staff. You might be okay, but the first person the customers meet is not. If there was not a requirement of giving one star, this would be a zero. read more

I have never written a review of any restaurant, but after eating a Fourth of July dinner with my family at the Pink Adobe I simply had to. I ate at the Pink Adobe about 25 years ago and remembered it as something really special...I remembered thinking each thing I tried while dining with and sharing different meals with friends was remarkable and that the atmosphere was somehow magical.... Fast forward to dinner tonight. We arrived at a run down old restaurant where we were seated on a Patio with shabby thrift store/ Walmart looking furniture. The fabric cushions looked worn and dirty. Our waiter, who earned the restaurant my one star was attentive and accommodating. My margarita was acceptable, but nothing special, especially from a place where I've read rave reviews about the drinks and the history this place has. The worst was the food, beginning with the trio chip appetizer plate. The salsa tastes like pace picante sauce, the queso had to have been melted cheese whiz and the Quacamole tasted dull and non descript. Everything else was a cheesy sloppy mess. Not one of the sauces were good on anything. My family wanted to get up and walk out and go "anywhere" else!!!..because we love Santa Fe and the amazing meals we look forward to each night. It was a return to Pink Adobe after many years, and what a letdown it turned out to be. Though the ambiance and architecture have not changed, the food definitely had. Appetizers of escargots in sliced mushrooms could have been inventive if the garlic sauce had not been watery and lacking in flavor. For mains, the shrimp étouffée was passable, but also fairly bland. Chicken (called poulet to sound French, somehow) in some red sauce was unimaginative and lukewarm. Added to an incomplete wine list, tepid service and a shocking bill for the quality of the food, the experience was not worth it. read more

The Pink Adobe (the Pink) is a venerable institution that fell on hard times when new owners ran it into the ground and closure. The former owners were persuaded to buy it back and re-open it. We've been going for over 25 years and didn't see any difference in the re-opened Pink. It seemed to have regained its old atmosphere and quality. The Pink is a series of small rooms, so there is a certain amount of privacy. We were in the front room, next to a small kiva (fireplace). It was a cold winter night and the kiva was great! There were only 3 tables in the front room, but you felt as if you were the only ones there. Unfortunately, the rooms are not acoustically isolated. In the adjacent room we could hear a boisterous family. The kids were screaming and you could hear them running around. There were at least two "adult" men who seemed to be egging on the children, often running around and screaming louder than the kids. (Families, if you do bring your young children to the Pink, please make sure they know how to behave properly in public. That goes double for some "adults" as well.) It was more than a relief when they left. We ordered a cup of the French Onion soup as a starter. Most restaurants ruin this by slathering it with cheese or serving it in a bread bowl. The Pink does none of this. The soup is light and you can really taste the ingredients. There is just enough gruyere cheese to complement the onions without overwhelming it. Every time we go to the Pink, I say I will order something different but I almost always opt for the Steak Dunnigan. The Pink's signature dish, Steak Dunnigan is a combination of green chiles and mushrooms, served atop a charbroiled NY strip (almost blackened New Orleans-style). I have never seen this on anyone else's menu, or even copied. It is truly one-of-a-kind. The original Steak Dunnigan was always a bit too much food, but thankfully there is a petite size which seems just right (is maybe 6 or 8 ounces, rather than the 13 ounce standard portion). A roasted potato accompanies the steak, but not like any other roasted potato you've had. This is a whole peeled potato that is roasted (not baked), so it is crispy on the outside, flaky and tender inside, not fried. A good selected of vegetables are also included. We finished with a bread pudding with tequila-lime hard sauce - just the right size and flavor to complement the entrees. The tequila-lime hard sauce is very light and not "alcohol-y". It all just works. There are no bad choices on the menu, but I always look forward to the Steak Dunnigan. Hopefully, the Pink continues to stay in business for a long time. read more

We were tempted by the cool, shady court yard on a hot summer afternoon, so we walked in. Just in front of us a bossy boss told the server that we were not allowed to sit in the basically unpopulated yard, only in the narrow, non-romantic alley way. He totally ignored us standing there, treating us like just another annoying customer. We were too tired to search longer in the heat, so we complied with being herded into the bar instead. There were only two other tables occupied, yet it took the waitress the longest time to show up. In the meantime the barman talked rudely loud, underlining several times that "someone else" would have to serve us. The entire staff kept bickering about their working hours, weekend work, too many tables to serve etc. etc. Dirty employee laundry washed directly, unavoidably in front of us, the guests. When the food finally arrived, it was 4 inch middle-of-the-plate-mini-arrangement of some salad leaves with exactly 1 (one!) asperagus and 4 half cherry tomatoes - for $12! Needless to say I stayed hungry, and just wanted to get away from the ongoing waiter bickering asap. When I mentioned on our way out that the price was unreasonable for the quality and amount of food, I was told off with a snobby: "Well, you're in the Pink Adobe here!" accompanied by a "whatever" shoulder shrug. Since neither the food quality nor the service deserve the rating of Haute Cuisine, I think the pricing shouldn't either. And the staff definitely needs a customer service training. read more

I have never heard of this place until my visit to Santa Fe. My buddy was told that this restaurant was well known here and that we definitely needed to try it. My first impression from the outside was that this place had a lot of character. The restaurant is situated inside a supposedly 300 year old adobe building. Inside the restaurant was small and cozy with lots of Santa Fe Charm. The ambience here was the winner and that was about all it had going for it. The food was alright .. definitely overhyped and overpriced. I had the Tournedos Bordelaise and it was meh. For $30 I had better. read more

Found this place on food network maps website listed on The Best Thing I Ever Ate which was the steak Dunigan. We started off with the trio-salsa, guac and queso. all really good. We almost ordered the jalapeno soup but waitress was nice enough to tell us it was similar to the queso. She brought us out a little sample to try. It wa superb! but so was thequeso and they were quite similar. for entrees we shared th steak dunigan which was cooked perfectly and delicious and the mexican plate. all fantastic. Esp the baked potato which was baked until skin falls off then flash deep fried in extra hot oil! forgot about the best part! We also had escargot which i didnt expect much since not in french restaurant. best i hae EVER had! came on mushrooms with a ton of butter and garlic. These are a must but you must LOVE garlic! would return for these alone if in town again. read more

We went to this restaurant on May 31 after searching Yelp reviews and the Internet looking for a good steak restaurant in Santa Fe. We weren't disappointed. The young lady the great us at the door was helpful friendly and agave us a very nice table. The restaurant was not busy. Very beautifully decorated. The steak was very good. Very different from what I would very find any place I have traveled. It was a little over cooked. This is the only reason I did not give the restaurant 5 stars. I would recommend this restaurant to a visitor in the Santa Fe downtown area. read more

The only reason I am giving 2 stars is for the margaritas. However if you don't watch your check they will overcharge for them. The food was bland, I don't require much seasoning, however salt and pepper should at least be a staple. Don't ask for the bland green chili sauce to be left off either. We had our rehearsal dinner and welcome drinks at Pink Adobe and it was perfect! We reserved the entire patio for the evening. Our families had dinner out on the patio, and the restaurant had set up an outdoor bar for our guests once they started arriving and everything was simply on our tab. We also had chips and guacamole, salsa and queso for our guests. Arlynne, who coordinated the event, was so helpful and we didn't have to worry about anything - just gave her our number of guests for dinner and an estimate of how many people we would have for drinks. The servers were all really nice to us and our guests as well. After the restaurant itself closed, we were able to continue hanging out and having drinks because the Dragon Room bar (next door and same ownership) was open a few more hours. Around 90 of our guests came, and it was the perfect size - it felt very lively but not uncomfortably crowded, with some space for people to sit down if they wanted to. We got so many compliments from people about the beautiful space, relaxed but lively atmosphere and tasty drinks and apps. read more

We went to Pink Adobe based on a friend's recommendation. We had read the reviews on Yelp and went for dinner with a sense of apprehension; we weren't sure what to expect. What we found was great! We had a wonderful dinner by the fireplace. The service was fast, friendly, and professional. We even had a friendly chat with the host on the way out. We both had the Plato Mexicano, mine with red chile, and Mrs. L had it with green chile. Both were delicious. Excellent food, attentive and professional service. My only complaint was there was almost too much food to choose from! All the entrees looked so good. The menu options are wonderful as well. If you want authentic New Mexican food, they've got you covered. But if you're looking for some French inspired cuisine, they've got you covered there as well! OMG the Rosalea days are over! Rosalea Murphy was the creator of this place which was once famous for her fabulous and original recipes redolent of her New Orleans origins, the tournedos Bordelaise, the shrimp remoulade, the lobster salad, the apple pie with hard sauce. I see that Steak Dunigan (named for a NM landowner) is still on the menu. Of course nothing lasts forever, but this place was a real original, and unique to Santa Fe. How sad. If the new guests knew what they were missing, they'd burn the place down. Rosalea would approve! read more

The decor was very historic looking and pretty. We waited for 1 hour 35 minutes to get our food. We had a party of 8. All the well done steaks were burned almost beyond edibility. Service was horrible, had to wait 20 minutes and more just to get a drink. Even with prior coordination, the cafe said they if they had to split the checks it would be another half hour. By the time we paid the bill, arriving at 7pm we left at 945 without dessert for obvious reasons. I am very forgiving as a frequent travelor but was so discouraged by this event that I would never go there again or take a client there. One steak with 2 drinks dinner was 62 dollars with tax. There are so many better places than this in Santa Fe. Pass this one up unless you are the only 1 in the place. And don't order well done whatever you do. read more

We had a scrumptious dinner at the Pink Adobe. Appetizers were the clams and the crab cakes. Both were delicious and quite large portions too. We split the rack of lamb entree and were glad we did as they gave us each three good sized rib chops. Their rack of lamb entree portion was very generous much more than I've ever been served elsewhere. No wonder The Pink Adobe continues to get awards and be noted as one of the best restaurants in Santa Fe. We enjoyed our dinner and will return when back in Santa Fe. I have been going to Santa Fe every year for the past 15 years and decided to try the Pink Adobe for dinner. What a mistake and waste of money! The service was terrible! It took almost 1.5 hours before we got our meal. The waitress never came by to tell us what was up or ask if we needed another drink. When the food finally came, it all came at once, appetizers, salad, soup, and entree. The salad was great but so overpriced. The soup was stone cold and the salmon was raw (just seared on the outside). The crab cakes were blah and small, and they tasted like they were old and previously frozen. There are so many other wonderful places to eat in Santa Fe that are divine with fabulous service (Coyote Cafe, La Casa Sena, Anasazi Restaurant, Geronimo, the Compound). We loved the pink adobe and were able to enjoy it twice during our trip to Santa Fe. The first time we had dinner on the patio and the ambiance and service was wonderful. The food was also delicious. We felt that it was a little spendy, but it seems that was the trend in the city. The second time we enjoyed cocktails in the adjacent bar. A family member recommended this place and it was wonderful! I saw their rating on here prior to going and was a bit skeptical, but I was definitely surprised. Despite several reviews stating that the food was bland, I do not agree. I ordered the Enchiladas Pink Adobe and the flavors were outrageous. Very bold! My aunt and her friend shared the shrimp bisque (special of the night) and said it was creamy and decadent. They also had the salmon and said it was juicy and well seasoned. We also took great advantage of the free bread, so good! It is a bit pricey, so plan to come if you want to treat yourself and a guest---the pizza place across the street smelled good if you're looking for something on the cheaper side! Luckily, I have a job that allows me to travel. And Santa Fe was a real treat, it's beautiful, full of local art and landscapes of never-ending desert and adobe buildings. My colleagues and I chose Pink Adobe because it was within walking distance of our hotel The Inn at Loretto and was "cheap" for the touristy trap that is Santa Fe. You should know that Santa Fe is (besides going to Europe) an exclusion to the New York rule. The New York rule is very simple, anywhere else seems massively cheaper that life in Manhattan. Well, not in Santa Fe. "The Pink" boasts a history of quality tasty home cookin' compliments of the restaurant's owner Rosalea Murphy who opened The Pink in 1944. The restaurant has a dark, cavernous yet cozy feel, and our party of 6 was tucked away in a room shared with one other large table, with windows looking out onto The Pink's courtyard (yes the restaurant has a courtyard adorned with festive multi-colored lanterns and outdoor seating). The food and the wine were reasonably priced and very tasty. Of course I had to indulge in the local cuisine and had "Enchilada Pink Adobe"- a classic with Chimayo red chile, blue corn tortillas, cheese, with beans & posole. Simple, like mama makes it New Mexican food. The big downfall for us was our waiter, he was inattentive, and we had to constantly bug him for water, which you need coming at a steady pace when having dishes coated in "Christmas" chile (red and green chile). read more

Despite mixed reviews I was very impressed with Pink Adobe! My parents had been here about five years ago and raved about it. The mixed New Orleans-New Mexican me U is eclectic but works. Staff is super attentive and friendly - a must for this former restaurant critic. The place is charming with log ceilings, beautiful art and Santa Fe charm. We were all still full from a spicy New Mexican enchilada plate style lunch at The Shed so we ordered more "a la carte" and we're not disappointed. Black Dragon margaritas - pricy but a must try; crab cakes to die for (and this family review is from New Orleans); avocado shrimp salad divine; French Onion soup some of the best ever; and lobster salad while not swimming in lobster was scrumptious and was enough meal for my 6 4" Dad. We mostly came for drinks based on a local recommendation while visiting Santa Fe from LA. The restaurant is in a historic building and obviously was a house in years past with small rooms off hallways here and there. Keeping with Santa Fe, the art on the walls is for sale and done locally. The fire was toasty near our table and our server was very friendly and gave good suggestions on food. I had the spinach and mushroom enchiladas which were very good. Cheese over the top only. I appreciated that, as usually cheese is used to disguise the food quality. The amounts were generous, and I took half my dish home to eat later. Our food was seeming to take forever and our sheepish waiter confessed that our order slip fell off the rounder and so our order was missed for quite a while by the kitchen. He more then made up for the wait with chips and salsa and surprisingly comped our 2nd round of drinks. We left him a pretty good tip for that!! My only criticism is that I believe the spinach in the enchiladas was frozen, and fresh would be an improvement! read more
