We were there after lunch rush so it was quiet. My daughter and I split a club sandwich and our companion ordered a cheese omelet. Pros: They do have a sanitizer dispenser when you come in which is nice. The fries were hot and fresh and we enjoyed those. Our water glasses were continuously refilled. We did note as we left they were spraying down and sanitizing the booth where we had been, so they do have cleaning protocols in place for seating. Cons: Our friend's omelet seemed to have a great deal of mozzarella cheese inside so it was quite stretchy. The omelet itself didn't have much flavor. I gave her my knife as hers was dirty. Our club sandwich was quite dry and required extra water to get it down. Overall there could be some improvement. read more

Wonderful diner! Big, clean, quiet, well lit, great service! We all loved what we ordered. My bison burger was cooked perfectly medium rare; loved the baked potato (I appreciate these as I never take the time to make them at home!). Veg served with it was super fresh. And now.... the dessert!! Pumpkin pie was PERFECT! A huge slice, thick, spiced, not too sweet, and I loved the crust! My friend loved her 7 layer chocolate cake looked incredible too! Nice diner atmosphere but the food was extremely disappointing. "Turkey burger" was a very dry, stiff and obviously once-frozen patty on a completely dry bun; incredibly unappealing. Onion and lettuce costs extra. Fries were good though. read more

Since the pandemic began I have not been in the actual Manhattan part of my city all that much but slowly am getting back into the swing of it. Yesterday, after enjoying some traditional Japanese music performed by a talented duo of artists, we walked around Times Square for some photo ops and to talk. Eventually the need for coffees hit us so we found ourselves in the Red Flame diner. It was my first time there and while I'd love to offer more insight to the place I can only say that this first go round was a pleasant one. I had been asking singer Yuzu what NYC treats she had sampled since her visit and discovered she never had an Egg Cream. We ordered her one and she loved it. I had the same but in Vanilla to be different and it was tasty. Everyone else was only having coffee but I needed something more substantial and opted for an order of Chicken Fingers. They tasted very good and since I was more interested in chat I wrapped most of this up for tomorrow's lunch. The establishment was clean and the staff friendly. Masks were encouraged to enter but we didn't have anyone check our temperature on arrival. This edict recently became official but there was only one small group in the place at the time we walked in. I will return for sure when in the vicinity and needing diner fare. read more

We came here this morning after ice skating at Bryant Park. We needed to be quick since our friends had a flight back to Florida. When we walked in it was very crowded around 9am but thank god they had a second floor. We got our order quick and the food was good. We spilt the bill and between me and my husband we spent $52 but that was for a good amount of food two coffees and two regular drinks. For Manhattan it was not bad at all. The menu is vague. When I asked if the cheese sandwich was served cold or warm the waitress recommended other sandwiches instead of answering the question. I must have asked 10 times how the sandwich is served and I could not get an answer. The waitress told me I could get a grilled cheese which is a different item on the menu. She also recommended more expensive sandwiches that she could have altered to just cheese. I really just wanted to know if the $7.95 cheese sandwich was served cold or warm. I then looked for something else to order, but could not find side items on the menu. I would have liked to order just grits, or just an English muffin, or just a croissant, They were listed as served with meals, but there were no sides listed on the menu. Hungry and late - where to go in midtown that won't break the bank? We stumbled upon this place. It had a great typical diner menu with slightly inflated prices, understandable for the area. This place is definitely the cheapest around. I had the Greek lemon chicken soup with orzo and a Turkey club sandwich. It came with the typical Cole slaw and pickle. I ate here several times during a recent hotel stay at the Sofitel. It's close and convenient and a basic, old school NY diner. If you like that genre you'll like this place (and conversely). My partner and I ventured to the city for our anniversary. We were staying at the Iroquois Hotel for 2 days and since they were not serving breakfast, they gave us 2 meal passes for the diner! WOW. The diner was SPOTLESS. It was so clean and the tables were truly wiped down after every guest! Service was quick and we got our food out quickly as well. I ordered 2 eggs, scrambled of course, with a side of turkey bacon, breakfast potatoes, and white toast! Food was filling. For what was essentially a free meal, it really held us over until lunch! Coffee refills happened almost immediately and staff checked in with us often. Although we did find the breakfast potatoes a bit bland and could use more time to cook to get more of a crisp, we found this place to be charming and delicious. We will certainly be back! read more

It's been a while since I hit up a diner in the city due to the pandemic, but this was a good choice to get back into the swing of things. This place gets mad props for being probably the cleanest diner I've ever seen in the city. Not sure if the pandemic played a role in it, but this place seemed pretty tip top with its clean tables, floors and just overall clean feel. That definitely put some of my worries to rest. As for the food, it's pretty much your usual mix mosh hodgepodge of comfort food items along with plenty of the usual Greek options. I got a chicken souvlaki plate and it tasted fine. The chicken was on the lighter side and the salad was a plain old salad but at least everything on the plate including the fries tasted fine and fresh. The service here, as others pointed out, was excellent. The folks who work here are very attentive, kind and all in all just a pleasure to be around. It's clear from how they interacted with customers that they do care about the business and the people who eat there. Since this is located near a place I run many of my errands, I will definitely be back here again in the future whenever I'm in the area. I feel the only place where diners remain is in NYC. Elsewhere in the country they seem to be fading and it's such a shame. This classic diner was next door to my hotel and every time I walked by, it was packed, didn't matter the time of day. Classic diner food and I ordered off menu- a classic patty melt with A1 steak sauce that was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Fantastic that I could order off menu. The menu is expansive and has your favorite diner items. I'd come here for bfast, lunch or dinner. What was even better was hearing the owners speak Greek to a patron they knew and fun to watch each family member come out to greet them. This Greek girl (by culture and step father) got the warm and fuzzies seeing this. How cool to see a multigenerational business where the owners actively work and come out to greet people. And, does it get any better than a Greek diner?! Loved the chicken kabob pita and a few other Greek dishes. Only negative- they serve Pepsi products. Highly recommend this restaurant. It came highly recommended from a friend and co-worker. I was pleasantly surprised on the quality, plentiful ingredients and freshness of the salad. Nicely chopped too! No giant messy pieces! However, the guy that took my order on the phone could have been a little bit more friendly and informative. They really just want you to go to the website, instead of speaking on the phone. Which is annoying because I needed clarification on another potential order. But that seems to be the current vibe everywhere.
