We sat at bar and were the only patrons for the first 45 minutes - the bartender didn't get the hint and hovered over us the entire time- super annoying especially when trying to eat- she also interjected when we were trying to have our own conversation. Very small portions for what they are charging- $19 for a beet salad with chicken-it had about 2 half pieces of walnuts- glad I had a sweet deal coupon because definitely wouldn't want to have paid full price. This is definitely going to be my new go to spot in Providence. Visited for restaurant week so that I could try multiple things on the menu. The location is awesome right on the river where Water fire takes place. It's easy to get to and parking on the street nearby isn't bad at all. I loved the decoration inside especially the "let's meet here" sign and the lovely bar. Some of the seating is actually couches with comfy pillows - love that! I felt so at home and comfortable while eating my meal which is important to me. The service and staff were super friendly. I enjoyed the cocktails so much. I had the hello habibi to start which has gin, cucumber and raspberries, and pink peppercorns! We also shared a social bowl for the table between four of us later on. The bowls come out bubbling which was so fun. To eat, I loved the tater tot sliders and the octopus dish. A few people at the table had the fettuccine Bolognese which was really good too. Menu was limited due to Waterfire but we weren't told that beforehand. The menu had 1 basic chicken dish, steak tips and a vegetarian past dish - kind of like a wedding. They also had a 90 minute limit and we were told by the host when we walked in and then again 20 minutes before our time was up and then again 10 minutes before our time was up. Came here on a nice sunny day. It has a really dope view of the river walk in downtown providence. The place is very Aesthetically pleasing, decorated very well inside. Food was amazing, giving it a 4star due to the French toast sticks, i felt as though they were out of the box. They were the only thing i wasnt impressed by. The Shashuka was A1! Came by on a Friday evening for a drink and some nibbles and had such a wonderful time. Overall: Everything was beautifully done, from the ambiance and decor to the drinks and food. The staff was warm and helpful as well, making me feel right at home. I loved the plant wall and lit up signs- very photogenic. Drinks: we tried the social butterfly and the hello habibi, both of which were not only beautiful but delicious. We had a hard time deciding in drinks since all of the cocktails sounded great, and based on this experience, I don't think you can go wrong with any choice. Food: we shared the grilled Spanish octopus (highly recommended by the server for good reason), ahi tuna and the tater-tot sliders. Went to River Social for an early dinner after seeing it listed as "hot" (or was it "cool"?). Regardless,... it was! River's featured drink list is definitely cool... we each ordered a Salut and it was terrific! Sweet and cold and tasty! For a first takes, we tried two mezze plates: hummus and roasted eggplant that arrived with warm triangles of really delicious pita. My only wish would be for more pita. Next we shared a Greek flatbread pizza... great combination of olives, sun-dried tomatoes, roast red peppers, and a feta-cottage cheese mixture... very good! We went to The River Social for Mother's Day Brunch. Like other people have written, the best thing about this place is the view. Music was BLARING 70's disco. So random for Mother's Day Brunch. We could barely hear each other talk. I even asked the waitress to turn the music down, which she did, but just barely. There were also several items forgotten during our meal, which we had to ask for. They also never refilled our coffee, which we also had to ask for. I could see this spot as a fun evening stop for a drink, but definitely never again for a meal, especially not for a special occasion. There's nothing special about this place. read more

Our bartender Dante was a great guy and fun to talk to. We ordered the Filet mignon and a chicken salad and, boy oh boy, the steak was super tasty. It had leek puree, balsamic, and fresh pomegranate seeds. The pomegranate seeds made this a tasty and fun summery dish. Steak too charred and also they cut it which makes it lose the juices, the pasta was far from al dente and was basically dry. At the end of our main we asked for a dessert menu. DO NOT go here if you have food allergies! This was our first and last time coming here and the fact you have items LABELED gluten free on your menu, are notified that customer has allergy, and then the food still comes out with gluten is awful and a HUGE health risk to people with allergies. I made waiter aware of gluten allergy, ordered dinner that was marked in menu as GF and it came to me with potatoes the chef fried in a fryer also used for items that have gluten. I did not get to eat my dinner with the rest of party. My food came to me after everyone else was finished eating. No manager ever came over to apologize, to see how the new food was, or anything! If I had not double checked on how the food was prepared, I would have gotten sick. This should NEVER happen when food in menu is labeled gluten free and waiter/chef is made aware. read more

Disaster of a brunch. Made reservations for 10:15 on a Sunday morning, and it was chaos when we walked up. People everywhere at the door but not in line, the hostess AND customers moving chairs, unclear what was going on... once we maneuvered to the hostess stand, she pointed at a table and said, "That's your table." Um, ok. We sat down and the QR code didn't work on my phone, so the fella and I shared his phone. We both ordered the eggs and tots based on reviews - me with bacon and him with pork belly. Waitress came back to ask which side we wanted, tots or home fries. I asked about fruit and that was going to be an additional "2 to 4 dollar upcharge." Is it $2 or $4? And why are the only side options more potatoes? Fella went with tots, and I went with home fries. When the food came, I had *only* home fries, no tots. Our over-medium eggs were fried, and our meat was big chunks over the potatoes, not stirred into the dish. It felt like 3 separate items stacked on top of each other with zero cohesion. The waitress was apologetic and brought a free order of just tots to make up for my dish, but they were pretty meh. I asked about a side order of toast, and it would also be a "2 to 4 dollar upcharge." She landed on $4, but how is toast $4?? No thanks. They nicely gave us a 20% discount on our meal for the tot mixup, but the river view isn't good enough to balance out the bad service and mediocre food. read more

My fiancé and I came for our 10 year anniversary on a beautiful June night. They have great outdoor seating right on the water. Would be gorgeous for a water fire night. The ambience was cool. Although the windows overlooking the river was extremely dirty. My fiancé had to use the restroom (there is only one toilet for the entire place) and stated it was very dirty. The service is sub par. There are NOT a lot of tables and it took much too long for our server to greet us. And, I totally understand the issue of being understaffed. This was not the issue at this restaurant. They had about 5 servers and 2 hosts for not many tables at all. Plus a bartender. We ordered the spicy feta dip which was delicious. Would definitely recommend. Now the dinner is a whole different story. We ordered a $40 platter of different meats, rice and hummus. The "platter" was served on a regular sized dinner plate with everything crammed together. The presentation was truly disappointing. The meat was sparse and under flavored. Lamb chops were extremely dry as was the rice. It tasted like it was cooked days ago and reheated in the microwave. Bottom line is if you're paying over $100 for 2 drinks (one of which was non alcoholic), one appetizer and ONE shared meal, you would expect a decent meal. This was hugely disappointing. I'm not sure how they've stayed open, but I can assume it is because of their location. read more

Definitely start with a nice cocktail and the mezze platter, our favorites were the spicy feta and eggplant dips. We also shared the falafel, arancini, and ahi tuna. It was plenty to feed 4 of us. For dessert they unfortunately ran out of the knead donut dish so we tried the chocolate mousse and baklava ice cream sandwich which were both great! The service was also exceptional. I came here with my girlfriend for a Valentine's Day brunch and had an excellent experience. We came with no reservation ready to wait but the hostess (very kind) took our coats and sat us at the bar as soon as we got there. We both ordered the chicken and waffles which arrived in a timely manner and were very pleased with the food. My girlfriend also had a specialty cocktail that she really enjoyed. The place is situated right along the river walk with great views and natural light. First time here and I want to say "why did it take so long" great Mediterranean food and great atmosphere. We actually sat by the River for brunch and had the Best server we've had in a super long time. Jenna was a gem, very attentive and FUN. I recommend the meat lovers shakshuka it's a plentiful dish as well as the eggs and tots. Mimosas were delish and the spicy Bloody Mary was super good. I wish this had been better. I feel like the River Social's Instagram photos are a bit deceiving. The people were nice. The drinks were just ok. The beet salad was not prepared well - just thrown together; it wasn't a busy night and it didn't look a thing like what I'd seen on their Instagram feed. The lamb was a very small portion for almost $30. No where close to a complete meal. The salmon was good but not a standout. We ordered Labneh as a starter; 4 quarters of pita for 3 people was the extent of bread. We had lots of Labneh left over which several staff mentioned passing our table. Yes - we wanted to finish it - but using a spoon was our only option. They promised more pita on several occasion but none was received. Where is it? I feel horrible for writing a bad review during a pandemic, but we had a really subpar experience here. We had reservations to sit down by the water. Unfortunately, we were sitting at our table for over 30 minutes and no one came to take our order. They were not busy. We were only 1 of 5 groups at the restaurant. The waitstaff were all hanging out inside without their masks on, so I felt uncomfortable approaching them. The bartender unfortunately wasn't wearing a mask at all (inside). We eventually told the hostess we were going to give up our table because we didn't want to wait anymore for someone to take our order and we're uncomfortable with the lack of COVID precautions. The hostess was very sweet and I felt terrible, but I'm mostly posting this so management hopefully addresses the lack of proper mask usage! read more

First and foremost my experience here was incredible! I came with my friend a few months ago and we were well taken care of. The space is very intimate, the staff was so friendly, and attentive. We arrived and were greeted with great energy, we sat at the bar and the bartender was exceptional! He made us some great drinks and recommended some good food choices. He was telling us about how their brunch on Sundays are what they're known for, my friend and I will definitely be going for brunch. My friends and I visited River Social on a Sunday during brunch service. The place was pretty slow for that time of day. However the staff wasn't very welcoming or friendly. The manger was our server. Upon sitting down the first thing we were told was "You have to hurry and order because we have a large party coming." When he approached us to actually take our orders, he waited for us to order before telling us that we wouldn't be able to order certain items because of the larger party. Unfortunately throughout the meal all our interactions with the staff were cold and lack luster. Which was very contradictory to the other tables around us. The food was good but definitely not tasty enough to make up for the poor service. Btw the large party ended up being about 12-16 people, still no where near close to a full restaurant. read more

Then, she says we have to wait until a table is ready. WTF? What is the point of the reservation? OK. now the ploy is to rush someone else off their table. Mind you, a larger table opened up. But we were not offered a chance to sit there. So, the 3 some was rushed away (including a blind man) so we could sit. It was 8:12. The cerviche was good. The mini nans were great! A bit expensive for those. The tower was OK, but we both thought the food was undercooked and cheap cuts of meat. Also fot two people, only 3 lamb chops? Come on - get real. The service was fine.
