Zero stars. Do not come here. We spent the entire day hiking in the chilly, wet weather. We were looking forward to a warm meal in a cozy spot to end the night. When we arrived it was busy and you could tell they were a bit stressed. I overheard someone say they were understaffed possibly. They let us know the wait would be 40 minutes and we were okay with that. There were some it two benches for guests who were waiting to use to sit. There were a substantial amount of people who were standing up waiting, including us. If you've hiked all day and are looking forward to sitting, maybe choose something else. We waited and I believe it was about 40 minutes. We arrived around 6:30 on a Saturday night and were seated around 7:15. Once we were seated it took about 15 minutes for someone to come over and offer us a drink and take our order. We originally wanted a beet salad, meatballs and a Chicago pepperoni pizza. The waitress came back and said they were out of all 3 of those things. We ended up settling with arancini, Brussels and a margarita pizza and then we waited. We waited and waited and then waited some more. The arancini came out around 8, 45 minutes after we sat down. We got nothing else. We stopped the waitress around 8:20 and asked when the rest of our order would be out. She went to check and said it would be another 15 minutes. We didn't want to wait anymore and didn't even know if that would actually happen so we asked for the check, paid and left at 8:30. We spent almost 2 hours here and all we got was arancini. 40 minutes of waiting for a table - no biggie - but an hour of waiting for our food? We got no apology, nothing was offered. And a man who looked like the chef was walking around after 8 and went to the table behind us to ask if everything was good. He told them he had one more beet salad left and it was theirs. Our waitress had told us they were all sold out 30 minutes before that. I don't know what is going on with this place but don't ruin your night by coming here. Now we're driving an hour and 45 minutes to our hotel in Portland and we haven't had dinner at 8:30 at night. Do yourself a favor and try somewhere else. I understand sometimes there are staffing issues, however, the customer service wasn't what it should be. If you don't have staff, at least tell people how long they'll be waiting for their dinner. read more

Glad they are open again so I can enjoy the pizza and the ambiance. I'm from NY and their pizza, oven fired is the best! Crispy on the edges and perfectly seasoned, The big test, you eat it folded in half and it doesn't collapse. The salads are fresh and plentiful as well as the entire staff. When you look at the reviews and pictures, there are a lot of food items mentioned that are not available. Maybe they do something seasonal, but this is just a pizza and salad place. The outside of the brussel sprouts looked charred here and there but they were raw inside. It was difficult to stab them with a fork because they were so hard. We were staying in a nearby town and came here twice. My friend wanted a view and a cocktail. We came to the right place. This place gets packed. You order at the front and pay and servers bring out your food. Beverages are strong. Pasta and seafood were all cooked properly and delicious. The salad and bread were well made too. Pizza was sold out by the time we got there (only 30 balls of dough a night he said) but it looked and smelled amazing. We sat inside and outside. Inside was a bit better as the sun wasn't destroying us lol. Outside was nice but I got a little burned (it was during an unusually beautiful weekend). This was my favorite meal of my whole trip to Cannon Beach. It's actually in a town called Wheeler, but it was only a short drive from where we stayed in Cannon Beach. Not only was the food good, the service attentive, but the location was amazing! The food tasted fresh and local, which is exactly what we were looking for. Definitely try to sit outside for your meal. We tried the Radiatori Pesto and the Lumache Bolognese. Recommend both dishes and definitely was sad that I wasn't hungrier to try more of the menu. read more

I heard from a friend that their chef hails from the New York and Miami culinary scenes, and the food sure tasted like it. I recently stayed in Wheeler and the Nehalem Bay area while re-exploring my favourite parts of the Oregon coast. While staying across the street at the Old Wheel Hotel, I came here two nights in a row for dinner and had the chance to have their steak, their Brodetto, kind of like a shellfish stew, their chocolate mousse. It was all flawless. First of all, this is considered one of the best places to eat along the Oregon coast. Oysters are cultivated out in the bay behind this place. Crab, clams and rockfish are all fresh and local. If you want to eat fresh seafood, the Oregon coast has it in spades in some areas. The folks who run this place are very friendly and aim to please. Even though I got a great seat the first night overlooking the bay and on the second night beside the wood-burning stove and I was alone, they regularly checked up on me to always see if everything is fine. I started with a half-dozen oysters. While not briney (which is the kind I prefer) they were almost sweet and very plump. Good stuff. The filet mignon I had the first night came a huge bed of sauteed Swiss chard. In fact they cooked it exactly the same way I do. Sauteed in olive oil, sliced shallots, garlic and a bit of balsamic vinegar. The steak itself was wonderful. For dessert I had the chocolate mousse with salted caramel. I could barely walk out I was so full. The second night I had their seafood Brodetto, a dish with half a huge Dungeness crab, clams, shrimp all sitting on a tomato, wine, garlic, parsley and onion broth with a huge honking piece of toasted garlic sourdough bread. I downed it with a local white wine. It was glorious. I know Wheeler is a sleepy little town, and businesses have a tendency to come and go here but I sure hope the Salmonberry Saloon sticks around for my next visit. read more

What a great experience! There was a line out the door for dinner but since I was just one I bellied up to the bar. The bar staff were helpful and fun to chat with. They have 4 adult slushy machines which is my jam during the summer. The menu is mostly pizza and pasta which is my only gripe since I wasn't in the mood for either. However, the pasta dish I had was really good and a healthy serving of it too. The pizzas looked phenomenal and I believe what they're known for. My friend and I ordered a bowl of the smoked seafood chowder, poke, hushpuppies and fries. The chowder was thick and delicious. The poke tasted fresh and the fries had parmesan and parsley on top. We asked for a side of ranch which is made in house and was some of the best ranch I've had. I wish they bottles and sold that stuff. Our favorite was the shrimp hushpuppies that were made with garbanzo beans and corn. It was accompanied by a lemon aioli which made the hushpuppies that more delicious. Lots of the ingredients are bought local. We got seats out side on the deck. It was a nice sunny day and lots of fisherman were out on the water. We saw different sorts of wild life out there which made our lunch that more enjoyable. They also allow dogs on the back deck which my friend and I throughly enjoyed making friends with. read more

Unfortunately I was looking forward to coming back to this restaurant after their "re-opening". Service was HORRIBLE, the worst I've ever had in the county. They were sarcastic, disrespectful, unorganized, and overall a horrible staff. To be honest, we watched everyone else get served around us and their pizzas looked mediocre and uncooked. We waited from 6:45-8:50 for two pizzas which never came. When asked what was taking so long, the cook, who is also apparently the owner (mustache, glasses, graphic t shirt?) was so rude and unprofessionally said "I had to wash my car and go surf" like a rebellious child. What an unfortunate way to run a business. I will never return here and I will go out of my way to tell people how horrible this restaurant is now. I hope they don't last long, because there is no way they can get this horrible group of staff together. They can only skate by with the old reputation of the salmonberry for so long. I would give zero stars if it were an option. Highly recommend center market, dollar general, Dominos, Papa Murphy's, or ANY trashy gas station in the county over the salmonberry. read more

If you are within an hour drive of the Salmonberry, I recommend you make the trip. From the few times I've been there, the food is an eclectic variety of Italian and Seafood and it never disappoints. Partner that with a view of the bay and snow-capped mountains in the winter/spring, and a medium-sized porch for the summer/fall, and you've got a winner. The pasta was perfectly al dente and each sauce has been incredible. Do not pass up the opportunity to grab a mushroom pizza if you can! They work with local producers and farmers to source their ingredients and you can taste the difference. Finally, if you need another reason to visit, the owner is the person taking your order at the front of the house with a great sense of humor and recommendations. This was our first time coming to The Salmonberry and we were able to bring out of state friends. When I tell you this place was better than any PDX high dollar restaurant, I mean it. The table had an arrangement of the oysters, fresh bread, salad, pizza and fish....it was beyond delicious, fresh, and worth every penny to be able to support a women-owned restaurant that is made up of local vendors. The prices seem pretty high for what you get. The food is good, and very abundant. Consider sharing the salad, pizzas, etc. The view is lovely. Service is non-existent. You place your order at the counter at the door, and the line to do so can be very long. Pick up your napkin, utensils, and fill a water glass, then take your number to a table. Even though we had one number, our food did not come out at the same time...one person was not served until the others were almost finished eating. You cannot get a pitcher to fill with water for the whole table, so each person must get up individually and go back to the water station to refill their glass. Then you bus your table. I rate the ambiance awful. Music was too loud to have a comfortable conversation among 5 people. Patrons bussing their tables dropped their loads into bins which regularly made the grating noise of plates crashing together. read more

I understand that "locally sourced" in March means fewer choices. This challenge was met at the three star level. In other words, it was ok. Same with the resolution of staffing issues.
