I initially thought Yelp had let me down since this place was disappointing and Yelp reviews were the only reason I was there. Questionable curb appeal, worn out interior and poor service. Turns out it was my own misinterpretation of the reviews, as most of the strong ones were from people either working on - or working off - a hang over, and for that, I get it. However, I was rolling through Spokane with my family and wanted to experience downtown dining in the brief 1-2 hours we'd be there. For that, this place didn't really hit the mark. We can get around the look of the place but the service really put a damper on the meal. Kind of a Parisienne indifference mixed with biker machismo. My wife's salad had a hair in it, they offered to make a new salad ("no thanks") but no apologies and no mention of removing it from the bill. Food came out in seemingly random order, some got salads first, some got them after the main, some had to ask AGAIN. The waiter just show up, drop off a plate, and left, not a word to be spoken. But it turns out the food here is excellent (except for the salads). My family had a variety of items, burgers mostly, and all were absolutely delicious. So, for that, and that alone, I'm giving it a three. But I'll put more effort in my reviews letting folks no if places are a family friendly place or a late night gathering spot. read more

To: Managment I went to the sattelite diner on November 1st at night around 720. All I ordered was a side of stuffed hash browns with bacon. when my plate arrived I cut in to it and there was a HUGE AMOUNT of sour cream in the middle of the hash browns. so before I flagged down our waitress, i checked the menu just to make sure it didn't mention that it came with sour cream. and sure enough it didn't mention anything about sour cream. so I flagged the waitress down and told her what the issue was and asked if I could get another made without the sour cream, and she told me that she would charge me for another plate if I wanted a new one. She was very short and somewhat rude about the whole thing and even before my issue was coming off as rude. So I declined the new plate of hash browns if had was having to pay for 2 orders. especially since my "SIDE ORDER" of stuffed hash browns that were drenched in sour cream cost me $15 dollars to begin with even though I took 2 small bites. All in all I found the customer service quite bad and our waitress just made the whole dining atmosphere less than pleasant. I would not recommend the sattelite for this reason. I would rate it 1.5/5 Stars. very frustrating going to pay the bill and being charged $30 for basically a chicken wrap and a plate of hash browns that served different than advertised on the mobile menu. If the waitress would have even been a little bit more friendly about the whole situation or showed some disappointment that her customer was not happy with their service,bit would be an little different. This review is for the diner side only, I've never been to the bar. This place is the prototypical "greasy spoon", a great place to get some decently priced, simple breakfast food. Don't expect anything too "fancy" (quiche, exotic omelets, pesto, sundried tomatoes, you get the idea) and you will be quite satisfied. I love being able to just pony up to a stool and get IMMEDIATE coffee and service, very nice. Wait staff have always treated me above average. read more

I have to say the only good part of my visit here was the merlot and french fries. Unfortunately there seemed to be only one server for the entire diner. So service was very slow and she never came back to check on me. I had to flag her down to get help. I ordered a medium well steak that came out extra well done. I asked for another steak cooked medium well, which also came back well done. At this point I just decided to eat the steak. I love eating breakfast here. A crowd is always buzzing, but it isn't too busy. I don't have to wait in line, even on Sunday. In the early morning the bar is closed, however, the awesome waitress made a breakfast bloody mary for me. She knew the recipe, and had it memorized. I like the place but today our server was not up to par. In total we had been here for over 2 hours. Not because we are chatting or really trying to stay around long but because our server was taking forever. He took our order then asked for the menu to see the price. He huffed and puffed when we said we were going to all have different tabs a head of time. He did not bring anything to our table other than hot sauce. We kept trying to wave him down for anything else and even tried called for him and got no response. It got to the point where I got up and had to get salt, pepper, jams, and sugars for my table and the table next to us - which was another table he was serving. The cooks had to come and serve our food and another waitress came to check in on us because she noticed the other waiter hadn't and she was more helpful and friendly than our waiter was. At the end we cleared the table and stacked our plates and such - because we have been servers in the past and know how much that helps - and he ended up spilling salsa on himself and got really pissed. He didn't seem to notice he spilt on my boyfriend's shoes too and didn't offer any napkins. I understand when you're having a hard day, and I understand if you're new but this was a whole other level of poor service from this man. As for the food, it was really good - it was just hardly warm when it got to the table and I assume it's because our waiter wasn't prepared to bring it to us and the cooks had to (something they weren't really doing for anyone else.) We left feeling extremely frustrated and feeling very turned off to the restaurant. I am putting 4 out of 5 stars because we love the restaurant, their food, and normally the staff, but if I could rate just the server it'd be a 0/5. One of my favorite late night and breakfast spots from back when I lived in Spokane. Was just back for a quick weekend trip, first time in over a decade, and figured this was a perfect spot for breakfast close to our hotel. They were training a new cook that morning but warned us that they were running really behind on orders, that left us the choice to stay or not so was greatly appreciated. Luckily, though hungry, we were not in a rush that morning so decided to wait, and it was definitely worth it as it was as delicious as I remembered. Love the amazing and unique pancakes, almost like they use malted waffle batter but as a thin pancake, had forgotten how good they are. My husband and I were in town for a wedding at the Davenport. The concierge sent us here for breakfast and we couldn't be happier. We sat at one of the high tables and people watched. I ordered the special of the day which was an egg mince with spinach and mushrooms. It came with hash browns and toast. It was great. I am extremely picky about my eggs. They either come out wrong and I don't eat them or I eat every last bite. I ate every bite of them at this diner. Spot on for me! My husband had a scramble. Same kind of this as mine but his has browns were underneath his eggs and mine were on the side. He also got a bloody Mary. Food and drinks were spot on and were very happy to have found this place. The decor is typical dive bar. Has a pool table and a new CD player juke box on the wall. Local drinking beer at 9am. Great place to spend a slow morning. The biggest surprise was the woman's restroom. I walked in and thought I was somewhere else. It has been remodeled and is very nice. According to my husband the men's room has not been redone. What a great place! We were hoping to head back there after the wedding as it stays open to 2am but did not make it. I would recommend this place to people who are in the area. Be warned that walking downtown can be hit or miss. Never felt unsafe but there are some colorful homeless in the area. read more

Great place that I found here on Yelp. Was looking for a more reasonably-priced alternative for breakfast while staying at the Davenport Hotel Tower, and this fit the bill. Nothing "cutesy" here. Definitely a working-class vibe. It is a dive bar on the other side, after all. Manager or owner checked on us after the food was down. Nice touch. They've definitely got it where it counts...the food! I believe that there was another potato option which I recommend instead. Wife's California chicken sandwich on ciabatta was delish and not greasy. They even have a kids menu. Had a good time here. We had a party of 10 and everyone loved it. The wait time wasn't bad at all. We were sat pretty quick. The food was also good. The server was around all the time and made sure our drinks didn't go low. I've been here a couple times now and haven't had a bad item yet. We tried the french toast, satellite scramble, and a Denver Omelette. My french toast was delicious and the perfect portion! It was a Sunday morning, so we expected that the large crowds would cause delays. Luckily, our server was very helpful in letting us know the ETA on our food orders and kept our coffee regularly full. This place is a local favorite and it's often busy. The bar side seems cool enough but I didn't venture over as I was there to eat. The food was pretty food and I could see myself grabbing a bite before enjoy a few adult beverages later on. It's your typical greasy spoon diner, not much to get excited about. The menu is very standard diner food. The service was no-nonsense but quick -- responsive, if not the friendliest. Probably just what hungover Sunday breakfast customers need! The coffee was decent and the thick, heavy Satellite logo mugs are pretty cool, if you want a souvenir. I had the breakfast burrito, which was fine but unremarkable. It's kind of entertaining to watch them cook in the open kitchen while you wait. Prices seemed pretty decent, too. We waited over an hour for our food after ordering in a VERY quiet restaurant. A member of our party with severe food allergies was very specific when ordering and told the staff about their allergies. The order came out completely wrong, all allergens requested to not be on the plate, were on the plate. Asked for a new plate and it came back with the included photo. This is disgraceful and the staff gave a half-hearted apology. To add insult to injury, the burger pictured was the same burger that we requested new. It was inedible as it was also burnt to a crisp. I've been coming here since I was a kid when it opened. I can practically recite the menu. Jamie is absolutely the BEST and I would come back just for her even if everything else was terrible. Luckily, that's not an issue. I've had a few less than great visits here, but nothing memorable enough to mention. The service is usually friendly, well paced, and open to conversation. The entire menu is available all day. My favorite late-night dish is their biscuits and gravy. A simple, delicious, cheap classic. I often order chili cheese fries, but have also ordered fries with brown gravy and cheese and it's equally as good. My other top favorite is their California chicken sandwich, with a side of beer battered fries... Unless the soup sounds good. They have made soups I'd never order, but did anyway at the server's recommendation. I never thought cream of asparagus soup could be so amazing. Literally never have had a bad soup here! This is a place that knows what it is-a downtown dive bar with great food and a fun crowd. I've spent so many of my favorite moments here. I can here earlier this week late at night after my flight was delayed. I heard this was the spot to go for late night food because they have an "all day" menu. I ended up ordering the "No Name Burger" and onion rings. Nothing spectacular that I couldn't live without. Wasn't a fan of what of the cheese with this particular combo. It tasted like cheddar instead of Swiss and unfortunately I ordered to go. Their menu has some interesting items on it worth trying I'm assuming. I have to come back because I was told anything off the breakfast menu is legit. As far as staff goes, friendly people, easy location to find, just make sure you don't walk in on the bar side (thanks GPS). I'll have to revisit when I come back and try this place again. read more
