One of our favorites every time we head to Myrtle Beach. This unassuming restaurant continues to deliver. Food has always been excellent and the prices are right, no cheap. I forgot how good their hush puppies are and may actually change my mind as to who has the best. Again, we are here during a Covid spike so we won't be eating in. They had the best takeout ordering we encountered all week. Very easy ordering, clear directions and very organized. Call in to order, tell them what type and color vehicle you will be in, arrive when they tell you, pull into one of the newly designated takeout spots. One of the mask wearing staff will great you, confirm your order and collect payment. They were wearing gloves too which was nice. They then go back inside and bring your order to you. Easy pull away and enjoy. We found that the food quality with takeout just isn't the same as if you are in the restaurants and that's to be expected as it steams I. The container, perhaps loses its crispness, etc. The Shack food held up the best of what we had. My son and I each ordered the daily special of fried fish, a dinner roll and sides. He asked for all fries which he devoured. I chose Lima beans, Mac and cheese and potato salad. The meals were only around $8 I believe. The fish was great, but not a big serving. However given the cost I'm good with that. The roll was fresh, the lima's were tasty. The Mac and cheese was really good but the potato salad stole the meal, it was amazing. My daughter had once again chicken fingers and fries and received a large serving despite it being a kids meal. My wife had the other special, chicken bog. Never knew what that was and had to google it. She seemed to enjoy it as well. One of our cheaper meals, but probably the best we had all week. read more

I have eaten there for years. They are on a downhill slide and need to turn it around! We got a shrimp platter and Cherry Grove platter.. The servings were scant. 2 hush puppies on one 3 on the other. The oysters overcooked, The "flounder" was actually perch NOT flounder. Both plates were mostly fries.. I am saddened that they are headed In this direction.. I may just go to their neighbors and get the "you buy it, we'll fry it" deal and eat it at home. That way I know what I am getting.. I guess in a tourist area you can keep new customers, but word of mouth may end that. read more

Wow! My wife and I have had breakfast here three times, and each time has been great, but today raised the bar. Eggs, grits, toast and bacon all fantastic! Service was great but the rating here is unbelievable. We decided to try this place after countless nights of seeing the crowd that surrounded this establishment. I really had high hopes but the food is horrible here. There has to be better options at the grocery store right down the road. The rice was INSTANT rice with gravy. The field peas were out of a can and extremely tasteless. The fried fish was like a fried tilapia filet with no flavor . The best item on my plate was my roll which was definitely out of the pack. This place is one of the best breakfast places I've ever been to. I also love the decorations in here and the customer service is good. The best part is the food is cheap while also being very good. The best "family friendly" joint close to the beach! Our server "Cody" made all the girls hearts flutter every time he called them "darling". Great job Cody and the kid also has his own fishing charter! The scallops, hush puppies, catfish, and shrimp were amazing! If you're a family or just a couple that stops in, please take a look around and realize that these kids that are serving might need a little extra on the tip because this place gets infiltrated by "blue hairs" as soon as they open for dinner. Loved this place! Arrived when they opened for dinner at 4:30 and were seated right away. Family owned and operated according to the back of the menu and it shows in the best ways. Casual and the AC was cool and refreshing. Bring a sweater if you're a person who is always cold. Our server was very sweet and an excellent waitress, keeping our drinks full and checking on us the whole time. Sweet tea was sweet, just like my hubby likes it. They bring a little basket of what we thought were hush puppies, but they were more like little donuts or funnel cakes with a soft butter (?) for dipping. Worth every calorie. So good! Hubby got the surf and turf special sans the hollandaise sauce. Steak with grilled shrimp and scallops. The shrimp were small, but tasty and plentiful and the scallops were sweet and tender, and a nice portion. Came with a salad and baked potato. And Texas Toast, which after eating the hush puppy donuts, nobody should touch. Not that it's not yummy, but so.many.carbs. Salads were nice and came with a giant serving of dressing on the side. Lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and cheese. Teenage daughter got potato soup, which was very good and topped with cheese and bacon. Cheeseburger was big and she liked it, but with so many other menu options, I would suggest something else. But it made my 13 year old happy and she took half home. Our preteen got baked spaghetti, which was one of the specials. She got a salad and macaroni and cheese as her sides. Took most of it home for lunch, because the salad and the little hush puppy donuts were too much! I ordered the steak and shrimp. The steak was excellent and not over cooked, which I appreciated. The shrimp, again, were small but really good. Tender and not over grilled. They have a house made "yum yum" sauce, which was really tasty. Sides are a nice assortment of home style favs. I got the cabbage, which was good and there were lots of other choices like black eyed peas, fries, etc. Got cherry cobbler to go and ate it late that evening at home. It was like homemade cherry cobbler, and perfect with a little vanilla ice cream. And the price for dessert was fair (under $3). We are planning to return again before we leave MB. The prices are excellent and the food was delicious. And the bathroom was clean, which is always a plus in my book. Update: met friends here the very next evening. Full house upon opening. Wings were yummy. Shrimp was a large portion. Grilled scallops are some of the best I've had. Fried clams were average, as was coleslaw, but not in a negative way. Friend did not care for the crab cakes. Said they had a lot of filler and they looked over cooked to me. We had a different server who was ok, not as sweet or fast as the young lady we had the evening before. So 5 stars for the first visit and 4.5 for the second. Update: back for summer vacation 2019 and went to the Shack again. Liked it so much, we came back twice in the same week. The grilled scallops are simply the best. Tender and not over cooked- and they are large with a generous portion. My teenage daughter and I shared the scallop platter and it was more than plenty for both of us. We went here for a basic southern breakfast we had scrambled eggs, fried eggs an omelette, pancakes, grits, fruit bowl, poo dog and coffee. The service was fast, on the ball and without errors. All the staff were very nice and they have a good selection to choose from. read more

We've been to the Shack several times and I've always forgotten to write a review. We've found other places we prefer for dinner but it's pretty great for breakfast. Friendly staff, a lot of breakfast options, and sodas served in a big glass and they keep the refills coming. On our most recent trip I got the ham and cheese omelette and it was one of the best I e had in a while. The home fries are good and I also got the country biscuit on the side. Caroline got the French toast with eggs and really enjoyed that. They always ask if you need a coffee or beverage to go when you are ready to leave. Busy at breakfast but worth the wait. We generally make it in once when in the area. read more
