Christmas Eve- the best filet we've ever eaten. And the side of mushrooms perfect. Mashed potatoes and veggies only made it better. Waiter was great. No corkage fee for first bottle of local wine. After many years my wife and myself decided to finally give this steak house a go. Ambiance was very nice, service was excellent, the wine list is good, even the side dishes were very good. But the star of the show, the steak, was definitely a disappointment. My wife had the top sirloin and I had the prime rib. We both ordered them cooked medium-rare. They were both a bit overcooked, but that is still not a deal breaker. What is, is the toughness of the meat. Both cuts were very chewy and my wife's sirloin was somewhat grainy. I wanted to wait to post this review to let my disappointment settle. Four of us were at Paso Robles Steakhouse in October for my girlfriend's 30th birthday, it was the special night of our weekend, so I made reservations 2 weeks out. We were 15 minutes late to our reservation (Manager said 45 minutes), the restaurant was empty and they told us we were no longer welcome to our reservation. After pleading to save her birthday, they allowed us to put our name in and wait an hour. There were customers behind us treated with the same disrespect, who felt so bad they asked us to join them at another restaurant and bought a round of drinks while we were waiting. Stupidly, we all went back to make our new reservation time. Paso Robles Steakhouse sat us in the table that was empty the hour before. We ordered a bottle of wine to share, salads, steaks, sides, etc. and were treated great by our waitress. After water, bread and salads were delivered with NO wine served, we started asking multiple times "where was the wine we ordered?" Finally, right before the steaks were delivered the server informed us we were not allowed to be served wine, do to the managers request (Manager stated one of us was drunk). Personally, if that manager thought that one of us was drunk she wouldn't have let us sit in the first place. Secondly, all employees couldn't figure out which person was "drunk". Which no one was. Thirdly, the other patroons kept asking us what was wrong and why they were refusing service. Personally, I think its because we had cowboy hats, boots, tucked in collared shirts, dresses and celebrating. We were asked to leave to restaurant AGAIN by the same manager. After be treated like cowboy trash, why would we stay? Thankfully, other restaurants in Paso were more than accommodating and assured us this was not the first time they had heard this story about Paso Robles Steakhouse before. My husband and I were on the central coast for an anniversary weekend and decided to try a new place on your way home....BAD IDEA! I had the halibut and my husband had steak and lobster. I think my halibut was the worst I ever had, it had no flavor and it was the smallest piece I've ever seen. My husbands steak was ok but the lobster had no taste, and the lobster wasn't served with butter. He had to ask for it. The wedge salad was good but I've had better. Not a good experience! Waiter was non attentive. Four salads ordered, three brought out, waited 15min for the next. All the steaks were overdone. Medium rare was medium to the well side. Medium was well done. Ordered sautéed mushrooms for the table they were brought out at the end of the meal. Got there at 5:30 only one other table, asked the waiter to watch the time for us due to a concert at 7:30. We barley made it on time.!On a slow Tuesday night should not have been a problem. Glad we made reservations for the Steakhouse. Being our first time in Paso Robles and being a holiday weekend it was the right call. We had a short wait as our server set up our table. Service was good, but we noticed that walk ins were behind turned away even though there was plenty of open seating. Glad to see they didn't overwhelm the wait staff as it seemed they were short handed. Order came quickly and food was hot. Steaks were as requested and sides were good. Glad we stopped in for dinner. Upon entrance there was no one present to seat you. Once someone did arrive they immediately told us there was no where to be seated even though the majority of he restaurant was empty. Being new to the area we then asked for a recommendation to be told "There are restaurants around the block". Extremely rude and disappointing in the service and treatment by the staff. read more

Do not eat here! They microwave their food. We ordered the "fish of the day" it tasted like rubber. The vegetables were hard as rocks. Not sure if the chef doesn't know how to cook but terrible food. We were way over charged. Customer service was great. when you have fish of the day on your menu and it comes out looking like it was over frozen and put in a microwave, it is disgusting. Our group of 6 was hungry after a long day of driving and wine tasting. We were really looking forward to a hearty steak dinner. Upon arriving at the Steakhouse, we were greeted by the pleasant ambiance and nice fireplace. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was delicious, as was the wedge salad that I ordered. Then things went downhill. I had ordered "The Duke" top sirloin, and my wife ordered the baby back ribs. Our friends ordered various steaks, including a Fillet, cooked medium, which was served purple inside. My steak was average, not bad, not great, but it didn't have much flavor. Another friend also ordered The Duke sirloin, also lacking flavor. The sauce on the ribs my wife ordered was very spicy and she was unable to eat it. The menu did not mention the presence of any type of sauce or seasoning, so there was no way to tell they would be spicy. I politely explained the problem to our server, Joey, who took the ribs back to the chef. He offered to bring replacement ribs, "dry" without the sauce, which would have been fine. However, in the meantime, everyone else finished their meals and plates had been cleared from the table. Not wanting to be the only one eating alone or make a scene, she told Joey she was no longer hungry. He said he was going to get his manager, but the manager never came, only the bill. $9 was deducted from the cost of the uneaten meal. There was no offer to send the "dry" ribs home with us in a to-go box, no manager, nothing to indicate any concern that a customer was leaving hungry and charged for an uneaten meal (minus $9). I left a polite voicemail later for Hallie, the manager, but I have not received call-back after 72 hours. We are not picky eaters, not high maintenance diners, and I can't remember either of us ever sending a meal back to the chef. I love giving positive reviews that are deserved, however our dinner at The "Steakhouse at the Paso Robles Inn" was a huge disappointment and I can't recommend it. read more

We had 20 minutes to spare before a meeting and decided to have a cup of coffee here. We took a seat at the bar and waited for a server. A server said she would be right with us and then disappeared for 5-10 minutes. In that time two other couples arrived and sat themselves at the bar. When the server returned she walked past us and took the orders of both of the couples who had arrived after us whom she appeared to be familiar with. That may be nice for your regulars but it is exceedingly rude to those who have already been waiting - namely, us. We left instead of causing a scene. read more

They obviously didn't staff for the number of diners -- the place was half empty, but they told people without reservations that it was a one-hour wait. I've been here a few times over the years, and have always been generally pleased with it. Not so much this time. I ordered the Reuben sandwich, and found that it had a lot of gristle in it. Now, I know that there will be a little bit in almost any meat, but this seemed like a LOT. I had to cut pieces of it out and put it off to the side so I could keep on chewing the rest of the sandwich. Disappointing. On the other side of the coin, the lady who waited on us was excellent. The environment is somewhat expansive, and the booths are comfortable, not like those little crowded things you find in some of the cheaper restaurants. The outdoor seating area on the patio is very nice indeed, and the walkways through the gardens are beautiful. I'll likely try it once more, next time we come through the area. But I won't get the Reuben. read more

Received a gift card for the Steakhouse. Split it between Sunday Champagne Brunch and Thursday night dinner. Went to the brunch at 11am, was asked practically right after we sat down if we wanted the check, we were so shocked we barely knew how to respond. The only items that were worth any of the money was the bacon, crab, and omelets (mainly because it was freshly made to older). We also had to ask for more champagne at a bottomless champagne named brunch, which we didn't receive in a timely manner. The cost was definitely not worth the food or staff, especially since the staff were on their phones the whole time. Last evening was when we went for Thursday dinner. We were informed the wait would be 20 minutes, which is acceptable. We received a text stating we were on the waitlist, however we were not contacted again. We had to go downstairs to check. The steak and shrimp scampi special was not even worth the reduced price, let alone the original price. Overall, Denny's would have had higher quality food and service. Never coming back and so very thankful that we had a gift card. Someone needs to address these issues before the restaurant is completely empty! Word gets around. read more

I have been been going to Paso inn to eat since I was very little, and I have to say it is getting worse and worse! We went for brunch and prior to our reservation, the restaurant called and said they could not get us in because the table in front of us waited longer than expected. We waited an additional 30 mins to arrive and then was never explained that kids can order their meals different than the brunch buffet-- oh, but they wouldn't do that since breakfast time was over since we had to wait to arrive. I've never had a restaurant do this before. My most recent experience was on a Saturday morning, which it was moderately slow. My family (including a toddler) waited while every server walked by us not even acknowledging us waiting at the hostess station. About 10 minutes later someone finally came up and offered to help us. After ordering our meal and waiting what felt like forever, I finally asked the server why the wait was so long and if I could just get a bowl of fruit for my toddler. The server shockingly said no as I might as well just wait for my meal. I was so stunned that she said she couldn't get me a simple bowl of fruit, especially after waiting so long for our food-on a slow day when only half of the tables were occupied! I have to say I have never complained to the managers or anyone because I have noticed on here they only apologize and say they wish you to come back. Now why would I want to come back after horrible service (several times), pay for the entire meal without a single discount or offer, and be just as upset if not more upset than I was before? This establishment has the worse customer service I've ever experienced in Paso! read more

I enjoy staying at the inn but feel the Resturant has been going down hill over the last year or so. I have stopped eating breakfast there because there are better options within a short walk. I had dinner there this week and the service was excellent but the food isn't competitive with the numerous good Restaurants on or near the square. Staying at the beautiful inn. Dinner for 2 at 6 with reservations. Not busy, a few tables. Took 30 minutes to take our drink order and another 20 to get drinks. Another 2 hours for dinner. While we sat there we saw one patron be seated and ignored for at least 30 minutes, then she left. The food was good, service deplorable. When I complained they were apologetic and indicated they were short on staff. No excuse for ignoring customers. I emailed the manager who was not on site - no response. Emailed the Inn contact - no response. We shall see what they have to say at checkout. We will not visit the restaurant again and reconsidering the Inn as well. UPDATE: I was contacted by the Inn and after discussing the situation they were very apologetic and felt the service we received was not their normal standard of service. I am appreciative of their contact and will back off a bit on my review. Yes the service was bad. Hopefully what they say is true and this is not normal. I was also upset that I was not contacted immediately via the email. They reminded me that the manager was out of the office and their out of office response clearly reflected that - and that is true. I was very upset and had no one who took my concerns to heart. Having had this conversation with them I am not adverse to visiting again and perhaps even giving the restaurant another chance in the future. The dinner once served, was very good. read more

The prime ribs tasted good, but the other two were very dry and hard to chew. We told this to our waitress, but she claimed their t-bone to be the best in the area so it should taste great; and the New York strips were meant to be not as superior (so it's supposed to be not as good)? Well gosh, I really came in with higher expectations when I ate here this last Sunday. I had come here back in January with a group of 8. Pleasing 8 people isn't always easy, but we were all so content with our experience. The food was so good that everyone cleaned their plates. I had ordered their prime rib, sweet potato fries, and salad. Nearly everyone tried something different, and we were all happy and full. One of my friends ordered their cheesecake, and it was unlike any cheesecake we had ever had. All of us were stuffed, yet we couldn't stop eating off of her plate. It was incredible. I can't count how many times we have talked about that cheesecake since then. Haha. I would have given my experience then a 4 star experience, or 4 1/2 if it was an option. Flash forward to this past weekend that a few of us are back in Paso. We all were craving the dinners we had back in January along with the best cheesecake ever. We all ordered the prime rib because it was so good before. All 3 of us ordered medium rare. After our order had been placed, the waitress (who was very nice) came back to say that they are all going to be medium instead. One of my friend's ordered the largest cut, and she let them know they had run out and he would be having the smaller one. Unfortunately our prime rib wasn't great. It wasn't bad though, just not the way we would have liked it. Their horseradish was fantastic though, and really helped with the flavor. After dinner, we placed our cheesecake order, but the waitress let us know they had a new menu and that was no longer offered. We were really bummed and didn't order anything for dessert. I would recommend the menu changing back the way it was before. I really hope that cheesecake makes it back on. read more
