The Vandalist is hosting a pop up chef, Sol Rad, to provide a breakfast menu Wednesday through Sundays 9am to 1pm. Came in and tried the Barbacoa breakfast burrito, side of bacon and coffee. Food is cooked to order so it tasted hot and fresh. The burrito is big and flavorful with the Barbacoa giving off those old school carne con chile vibes. There is also a lot of refried beans and melted cheese so overall it's a very soggy loosely packed burrito. The candied bacon on the side was not very sweet and tasted like average bacon, meanwhile the coffee was not very hot. I will definitely be back for another burrito for sure. read more

This place is a must on your Whittier bar hopping adventures in the area. $15 cocktails!! Packed on a Thursday night too until maybe 10pmish. Amazing service too. They also serve food! Ceviche was bigger sharing portions than expected. Mixologist can make drinks not on the menu, such as normal classics too. I visited with a group of identified women. It's been months since I stopped frequenting this spot. They do have great drinks, pricey, but they're worth it. It used to be my go-to drink spot in uptown. However, every time I drive by and see this place, I'm reminded of why I stopped going. One particular incident stands out. One day, I found myself in an empty bar, waiting for 5 minutes for the menu, another 5 minutes for water, and yet another 5 minutes to get asked what I wanted to order. During this time, the waiter was engaged in a conversation with the other waiters, completely oblivious to my presence. I guess their conversation was more important in an empty bar. After placing my drink order, I decided to cancel it and leave. I felt uncomfortable and strange, as if my presence wasn't wanted there. That's the feeling I get every time I pass by and see this place. read more

This is probably the best bar in uptown Whittier. The drink menu changes, but their drinks are always so unique and perfectly flavored. The service is always good, whether you're sitting at the bar or have a table. The menu items seem to also change occasionally, but again you can't go wrong with anything you order here. This is my favorite spot in Whittier to get drinks at. Every drink I have tried has surpassed my expectations! The Carrate Kid is great and my go-to. The servers are always sweet and inviting. I found this spot as I was researching bars for my birthday. The ambiance is nice with various genres of music , mostly old R&B which is a vibe. The hostess was welcoming by explaining their menu & overall recommendations. I ordered the charcuterie board which was delicious. There are various fruits , cheeses, & deli meat. I went back to this place a week ago and I had such a different experience. While looking at the menu to order food, I noticed the menu was very different. I asked what happened to the previous chef and the staff seemed extremely bothered that I asked. I ordered a drink and a bite and the service and food was just not pleasant. I was very disappointed in the lack of professionalism. From the staffs behavior, I would guess there was drama between the bar and the chef. Considering how unpleasant the staff was about my question, I'd also guess that the chef decided to leave due to their rudeness. The drinks were still good but the food was meh. read more

This place is great for date night. The dark decor and low lighting creates an entire mood that instantly puts you into a relaxed state where you want to sit and talk deeply to the person you came with while savoring a glass of something something (think French cigar lounge). I also loved how the DJ used the music to create the right amount of energy so you were at once mellow and yet upbeat. Each drink we ordered was perfection and the charcuterie board was honestly one of the best I've ordered. My only point of contention was that while I understand it's a whiskey bar, I do wish they would carry a little more wine options for wino's like me who are accompanying their whiskey loving husbands . I very much enjoyed this establishment, I love the music they were playing, it's dimly lit , perfect for a date night . The young woman tending our table was very nice and helpful with suggestions on drinks. I had their version of the old fashion, pretty good I must say considering it wasn't a real old-fashioned but it was very tasting nonetheless I did enjoy it. The menu has 4 items ( not literal ) and they stand around chatting as if you need 10 mins to decide what you want to order. Constant having to wave someone down and they seem bothered. They don't even deserve a star. It's a cocktail bar with bartenders who only know how to follow pre-defined recipes, not make true drinks. 5 of us ordered drinks and 3 of the people liked what they got. But there were two of us that got the 'Terrible Love' and yes, they were terrible. We let the bartender know that it wasn't good and she told us that she can't take it off the bill. We said that's fine, even though we didn't agree with that customer service. For a 2nd drink, we asked for the dealer's choice but let her know that we didn't like the flavor profile of the 'Terrible Love'. She bought back 2 drinks and told us that she just realized that both the drinks she made were Death & Co drinks so had similar styles. Guess what? Those drinks also weren't good. So we didn't drink any of the drinks. We asked for the bill and of course, she charged for all the drinks. We told her that we understand if she wants to charge for the first (although again it's poor customer service) but why is she charging for the 2nd. Her excuse was that she followed the recipe and we asked for the dealer's choice, plus that's just their policy. The issue? She doesn't actually know how to make drinks and is just following pre-defined recipes. At the end of the day, a true cocktail bar has mixologists that can actually make drinks and understand how to adjust for flavor profiles versus just following a few provided recipes. Also, this is a hospitality business. If the customers don't like what you deliver, it's normal to apologize and replace it without charging. Don't make excuses and blame it on following the recipe or non-existent policies. Long story short...the vibe is cool but the drinks are not worth it. Maybe we ordered the wrong drinks but still, it's a service business with terrible service. So it's definitely not a place we will go back to. read more

The ambience is fun and the waiters are also super nice. My old gripe was the sound level for music but only cuz I hate yelling and losing my voice to just have a conversation with friends we had stuffed olives and was hoping to order the charcuterie plate but they ran out of ingredients that evening.
