I came here for the first time with my best friend and the vibe was definitely right. It's a small, intimate space but they do have tables in the back that can fit a group of 6-8 people. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to try such as the grilled octopus, truffle mac and cheese, garlic shrimp and meatballs. Everything we tried tasted great and the price was somewhat affordable. The only con I would say is that our waiter (did not remember her name) was not the friendliest and that was a bummer because everything else was enjoyable. It was pretty busy when we walked into this place. It seems like a great place to go with a group of friends even though it's a little small. A bit loud for a date so definitely don't go here unless you're ready to scream so your partner can hear you. The drinks were delicious. I was really excited to try the food because the menu looked promising and it was pretty good. A lot of things were a little heavy so we had to take a bunch to go. The oysters were good, not too fishy. The tuna tartare definitely needed a little bit more flavor but when the heavier dishes came out, it was a pleasant break from all the richness. The short rib poutine was good not great and very very heavy. The twice fried chicken had a sweeter flavor than I expected but wasn't bad. The truffle Mac and cheese came last and at this point I was tapping out but from what I tasted it was very good and not obnoxiously heavy on the truffle. read more

Aşkım and I came here for a romantic Valentine's Day dinner and we loved it. The food and drinks were great and service was efficient, although not particularly warm. The place is tiny and they squeeze the people in, so it did feel like the next table was sitting in our laps but that didn't detract from the food. For cocktails, we started with the Madam Brown and the Warren Manhattan. The Manhattan had fig in it, which I love. The Madam Brown had bourbon and passionfruit, which sounds weird but worked well. We started with short rib poutine and it was heavenly. Every component was delicious. For an entree, I had the black seafood linguine. It was amazing. The broth was incredible. For dessert we split an apple tart which had an amazing crust. All the food was excellent and the cocktails were amazing. Service was fairly efficient but not the friendliest. The first interaction with the server was "do you know what you want?". I just think a greeting is a little nicer way to start an interaction. Also, there is only one bathroom and if you're unfortunate enough to sit near it, be prepared to stare at the butts of people waiting to use it the entire meal. Classic bistro in West Village (right off Hudson) with a classic menu. Exposed bricks, wooden rustic tables... I would say they are certainly a classic American restaurant but they also have modern takes on traditional appetizers like chicken liver foie gras, steak tartare and oysters by the dozen. They call themselves a "gastropub" which I admittedly had to google and for anyone wondering its just a hybrid of a pub, bar and restaurant. Makes sense. I will say I was in the mood for a salad and they really didn't have much in that department - I looked at both the brunch and dinner menu and only found one (it was the same on both) which was a kale caesar, which is what I ordered. It wasn't bad, very simple, and came with shredded parmesan cheese and some croutons. I wouldn't have hated if they wanted to throw some cherry tomatoes in the mix. You can also add chicken or shrimp but I did not. The gal I was with ordered the squid ink linguine with seafood and ate the entire thing so you can assume it was good. We got a table right away just walking in on a Sunday which is also always a plus. Staff/servers were super friendly and the right amount of attentiveness. Last little thing I will say is I have a pet peeve about asking for lemon wedges so I can squeeze them in my water and I can't stand when they bring you the sliced lemon rounds because there is no way to squeeze them! I'd rate it a 3.5 for the overall experience. We came on a Sunday afternoon and it was fairly empty inside. The food was pretty average for the list part but the overall experience was nice. We ordered East and West coast oysters, both of which were fresh. The deviled eggs I would not order again as the yolk was too salty/sour. My favorite was definitely the truffle mac and cheese with came in a small skillet tray. It was very creamy with a nice cheese pull. The truffle flavor and fragrance mainly lied in the breadcrumbs on the top but each bite was delicious. The twice fried chicken benedict was decent. I enjoyed the crispiness of the English muffin and the addition of the cabbage was interesting. The flavor of the chicken was good but the chicken itself was not very tender, though not dry either. Cute spot with many areas of improvement. Main dining seats are VERY close together, making for an uncomfortable dining experience for two and nowhere to place coats or belongings. Our waitress was trying to be attentive, which was nice, but it came off as pushy as we felt pressured to order almost immediately upon sitting down. Our cocktails were served half full but at a hefty $16 price tag. I disliked almost everything I ordered (garlic shrimp- bland, chewy, poor quality) and the shishito peppers were a terrible texture. My boyfriend enjoyed his lamb chops which were served as a very small portion- just two measly chops for almost $30! We also ordered sweet potato fries which were basic at best. Also, with the tables being so small we had little room for the plates or glasses. Management is missing the details, here. In sum, we spent well over $100, barely ate, and I'm starving. This is a fantastic date spot. We snagged a table outside on a nice Friday afternoon coming back from the dog park. We ordered oysters, avocado croquettes, the kale Caesar, garlic shrimp and truffle Mac. My boyfriend and I tried a few different cocktails, all of which were very delicious and well poured. The kale Caesar was amazing, highly recommend. We also enjoyed the garlic shrimp. The truffle Mac was definitely the highlight of the whole meal - one of the best Mac and cheeses I've had in a very long time. The waitstaff was also very friendly and down to earth, service was for the most part prompt and warm. I removed a star for two reasons. One, be aware of the portion sizes here. The dishes are done well, but the portions are small. The table next to us ordered poutine between a few people and literally laughed when the waitress brought it because it was so tiny. For the price, I would expect a little more. But, this is also why I think it's a good date night spot because they're small bites and not a big messy meal. Second, which they have no control over, but the outdoor tables are on a significant slant (enough that the juice from the shrimp was on one side of the skillet). TL;DR: incredibly rude & disrespectful staff, awfullll wait time for food and drinks, and 20% gratuity included for small party and bad service. Honestly one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Not only was the staff rude (we'll get to it), but when we tried to talk to them about it they doubled down on their behavior and continued to treat us like sh**. I'd walked by this place so many times and was so exited to try... left thoroughly disappointed. Facts: - We called ahead to let them know we'd be 10 mins late. Our open table reservation said the Warren had a 15 min courtesy window but we still wanted to call ahead to be respectful patrons. Upon arrival, 9 mins late, they told us unapologetically they'd given away our table away because we were late... despite them saying on the phone that it'd be fine. - While waiting in the doorway to talk to the hostess, she aggressively told our party that "you're in the way and I'm the hostess." She was so unnecessarily abrasive and honestly we should've just taken the hint and left then. - After finally getting a table, we waited 15+ mins before our drink orders were taken and another 15 mins until our drinks arrived. - We ordered and an hour and a half after arriving still hadn't gotten our food. I went in to find our waitress and check on the food and couldn't find her. I asked the hostess and she said "well obviously we're really busy right now so it's going to take a while." - As our food got there, we asked for a side of mayo with our burger and fries and the hostess said it'd be an extra $1... despite waiting so long for our food and her abhorrent behavior. I totally get that kitchens get busy but no one even came by to update us or apologize. Usually I'd expect that after 90 mins of waiting for mediocre food we'd at least have an app or our drinks compd but instead 20% gratuity was included. Like WHAT! Perhaps the included gratuity made the staff feel comfortable treating us so poorly because with this level of service I would've left 10% max. We were shocked to see the 20% tip included for a party of 5 (never seen it for fewer than 6 people), but apparently it's a restaurant policy so diners beware!! And there was a $6 credit card processing fee.... for over $200? Okay. Our total came out to $275 for drinks + food for the absolute worst NYC dining experience i've ever had. read more

Great spot for brunch. When we arrived at 1:00 we were the only party, but then it started to fill up. The hostess and our waitress were both lovely and service was attentive. It's a warm welcoming atmosphere. The tables are well spaced and the music is good, but not too loud for conversation. Really solid place for weekday happy hour: $7 until 7pm for 1/2 dozen oysters, beer, wine, cocktails, fried chicken, poutine, beef tartare, and mussels. The ambience here is lovely, perfect for a date or a quiet meal with friends. Super romantic and quaint. Service was great. We basically got everything on the happy hour menu and were quite pleased with our meal. 1) The oysters were fresh, no complaints there. We absolutely LOVE THE WARREN. Can't say enough good things about this place. Our personal favorites include the truffle Mac and cheese, "meatballs" that you can't even believe are made of eggplant, Warren burger, and kale salad. Dimitri, Jose and Junior make all their guests feel at home inside the restaurant. Despite indoor dining being closed for covid, they have made the outdoor seating comfortable, warm and still feels as though you're enjoying an intimate dinner. This spot is as versatile as it gets. Come here for happy hour with your work crew and gather 'round the bar. Come here with a date and sit at one of the cozy tables in back. Come here with a friend for a nice catchup dinner. The West Village really wins for spots like this, and the Warren is no exception. Made a reservation for two at 7pm on a Friday night through Yelp's version of OpenTable. The host had a table for us all ready in the back, but offered us the much better alternative of sitting right by the window if we didn't mind waiting a few minutes. So with the alternative, we went (Yoda would be proud of that sentence). By "the window" I mean that you're essentially sitting outside--the storefront is open. So you have the luxury of technically sitting inside while still being able to soak in the lovely summer night (assuming the summer night is, well, lovely). This could actually make for a brilliant exit strategy on a date. Having an awful time? Just slide right out of your chair and you're immediately on the sidewalk. And then you can run. I mean, I really hope there aren't people that cruel out there, but it's fun to imagine, no? So before anything else, I must mention the Warren's *Yelp deal*. Do you ever feel like the places that offer Yelp deals are never the places you'd like to visit? I suppose that's why they offer Yelp deals, though. Anyway, the Warren, along with being a wonderful bar/restaurant, also offers a free Warren punch with a Yelp check-in. Take advantage of this! It's yummy. The only ingredient I remember is Moscato but there's some other stuff, too, Rejoice in free things! I heard the Warren makes a mean burger, but when I find a menu that's appetizer-heavy, I feel that it's my duty (yes I said duty) to take advantage of it. So we opted for small plates. We were planning on ordering 4-5 dishes, but our waiter seemed pretty convinced that this would be way too much food for us. So we went with three. In retrospect, we should gone with four instead of three plus a side, but we assumed (as any sane person would have) that the waiter knew better than us re: portion sizes. Apparently he has an unusually small appetite. In any case, everything we ordered ranged from good to delicious, so there aren't many complaints here. I will say that portions here likely vary greatly depending on what you order--we ordered dishes that were on the lighter side, but had we opted for others, our waiter might've been right on the mark. The damage: Grilled Octopus w/ escarole, caperberries, salsa verde (A) I know people don't follow Yelpers like they do food blogs, but if you happen to have read any of my previous reviews, you'll know that I'm a sucker for octopus. I order it just about everywhere if I see it on the menu. The preparation--though simple--intrigued me, so it was a no-brainer. The octopus was cooked very well--some pieces didn't have that lightly-crisped skin that I so adore, but overall I seriously enjoyed it. The salsa verde made the dish for me--pulled the other ingredients together nicely and made the escarole far more tasty than it would've been on its own. Though I'm not a huge fan of caperberries, they were and interesting addition to the dish. This plate was definitely the winner of the night. Red Snapper Crudo w/ radish, serrano chili, shiso (B+) I'm a sucker for plates that are uber, uber flavorful. This dish, while aesthetically gorgeous, fell a bit short for me. There was nothing ostensibly bad about it, but the snapper itself didn't really hold its own. It could have been seasoned a bit better. That said, this dish as a whole was wonderfully summery. The radishes were seriously delicious, which was unexpected given that radishes typically don't strike a person as exceptional in any particular way. Steak Tartar w/ frisee and grainy mustard (A) Oh, serious yum going on here. My only complaint--a frequent complain for me--was that I wanted more. I get that it's an appetizer but...I just wanted to nix the frisee and double the steak tartare. The meat was light and fluffy as it should be, and the grainy mustard was a beautiful touch. Nice mix of textures and flavors here, which I always appreciate. Crispy Brussels Sprouts (B+) As I mentioned, in retrospect I'd opt for four small plates as opposed to three + one side. But how were we to know? We also had no way of knowing that these brussels sprouts were not going to be in the least bit crispy. I'm a health nut so I suppose I should be happy that these came out "healthier" than I expected, but when I order crispy brussels sprouts I expect the proper amount of crisp. Otherwise, these were completely fine. But you're better off forgoing these and ordering something else. Overall, our bill was $66. Very reasonable! Other than a few hiccups (our waiter charged our cards the wrong amount and had to void/redo the transactions), the service was wonderful. A small bistro that has all the right things, we were greeted stepping in the door, the Bartender waived us over to two open stools and just made us feel welcome. after two drink recommendations the rest of our party arrived and when we sat at the table the waitress was right there; amazing, recommending some tasting dishes drink refills and sharing her better than sex dish the Mac and Cheese A shout out for the Staff ,The food and the restaurant making us feel welcome, amazing experience. need another review for just the MAC AND CHEESE.. Overall I really liked the place! I really liked the chicken liver foie gras (HH item) here, it was unexpected really good! I think it was my favorite. But everything else we ordered was good too! We ordered the Deviled Egg (HH item, really good!), Shishito Peppers (HH item), Tuna Tartare (yum), Truffle Mac n Cheese, Brussel Sprouts (def yums), Ribs, and our dessert! We dined in on a Saturday night with a 6:30 reservation, party of 4. While the food was delicious, the service from the hostess was atrocious. Upon arriving, she stated that we would need to vacate the table by 8pm. We hadn't even sat down!!!!!! Service was not fast by any means. We were asked if we wanted an additional drink/dessert at 7:50 and felt like we had to decline or else we'd be forced to finish them rapidly within 10 minutes. Approximately 30 seconds after our bill being placed down, that same hostess came over and said she needed the table (it was now 8:04). No one was waiting and as we waited outside in the freezing cold for our Uber, I noticed no one sat down for at last that 5-10 minutes we remained outside. It really put a damper on our experience to feel so rushed. With a tab of a few hundred dollars, you should not be rushed and denied additional food/drinks due to time constraints. Because of this, I won't be back and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking to enjoy themselves. After walking by The Warren multiple times on my way to the Path, I had been intrigued by its seductive dim lights and upscale bar vibe.  When I saw that they accepted large groups without a pre-fixe menu, I selected it for my 7-person birthday dinner.  I was also thrilled to see that the place offered their happy hour until the unusually late time of 8:00 pm, though I was disappointed to learn upon our arrival, that this deal was only available at the bar.  So, we dropped our stuff at the table and headed to the bar to order some drinks, while we waited for the rest of the party.  Despite these efforts, the cocktail that I had been interested in was not included as a happy hour option anyway.  My mezcal drink was mixed with pineapple, chipotle spices, and lime, and was served in a glass with a salted rim.  I liked the sweetness of the margarita-style beverage, but wished it had some more heat.   When the rest of the group arrived, we went back to our seats and ordered appetizers.  My "Meatballs" were actually made vegetarian with the unique use of eggplant. These fluffy, light balls were flavorful enough to be mistaken for beef and were served in a chunky marinara sauce with a hefty dose of whipped ricotta and sprigs of basil.  Thankfully the starter only included 2 of these heavenly bites, because I wanted to save room for one of the fabulous sounding entrees.  For my main course, I wound up selecting the Grilled Steelhead Salmon, which was perfectly cooked to a medium temperature level, despite the server neglecting to ask for my preference initially.  The fish filet was narrow, but thick, and was served with crisp broccolini and 3 large sticky rice tots.  The plate was adorned with a drizzle of sweet chili sauce that was perfect to dip each ingredient into.  I then topped off my meal with a crisp flute of Cava and a small cheesecake with a birthday candle.  The cake had a crunchy cookie crust that was topped with a mound of creamy cheese and a slightly sweet fruit compote.  Though I typically was not a cheesecake fan, that one was extremely mild and smooth, making it much more palatable.   My delicious experience was validated by my friends who had all agreed that they had loved their food and beverages.  While located rather far west, The Warren was worth the trip for its elevator bar fare and versatile atmosphere. read more
