    Expanding the place!
    Don K.

Exceptional grilled cheese and tomato sandwich, and I've been making them for 60 years. Good coffee with a diner like ambience. They accidentally overcharged us by $20, but we wouldn't have noticed if the manager didn't come back and point it out. Well they are training newbies so service wasn't all that good, but they were trying! No tipping unless you hide it! A Good sign is that they are expanding the dining room.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would!! I was invited here by my nephew who attends the culinary school. Although the students are practicing their skills, do not underestimate the quality of service and food. EVERYTHING was EXCELLENT!! The ambiance was nothing fancy but one of service...everyone there was doing their part. It was such a great experience and super affordable. Since they are students you only pay for the food, not tip for service which is a steal especially for the amount and quality of food. I would 100% be back!!! If you haven't tried it, you really should.

My coworkers and I are regulars here and come often during our lunch hour. We enjoy the food and the prices are pretty reasonable, albeit they have increased recently. The bistro is run by students, so it's nice to be able to contribute to someone's learning experience. We have tried a variety of things from the menu including salads, chicken sandwich, and shrimp pasta. Our favorite go to dish is the burger. They also have a couple of really great dessert options. I took a star off because some of the students have been pretty rude and not helpful. Also, it's not the most efficient experience to begin with, but they have cooperated with us to get us out of there in enough time to make it back to the office before our lunch is up. Also, there is construction going on, so the feel of the bistro is not the same. Used to have windows on one side but now they're covered and it makes the room look smaller and darker.

When you arrive, the staff warns you that the staff are all students. In my opinion, it was good because they were all nice and friendly which isn't always the case these days They have limited food options but the portions are the large and the entrees are fairly gourmet for the price. Entrees were under $18. I got a fried chicken sandwich for about $10 And added a cup of soup and soda for $3. It was a great deal. The service was good. The hours are very limited so be sure to check That before going. Side note: the tips don't go to the server but back into the program to find scholarships which I thought was kind of neat. Tip: don't head in on the side where the Westside Bistro sign is. We did this and so did others while we were dining. You have to head in through the main entrance to the school and then turn right into the restaurant.

Located inside the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas (CALV), the Westside Bistro is a full-service restaurant run by students in training. I've been here several times for lunch and always had great experiences. First of all, the prices for lunch are inexpensive for what you get. The lunch menu has salads (chopped, Caesar) sandwiches (BLT, roasted tomato grilled cheese, buttermilk fried chicken, turkey melt), entrees (blackened salmon, fried catfish and fries, roasted chicken), desserts (cherry cobbler cheesecake, seasonal fruit crisp), and espresso drinks. There is plenty of seating, including counter seats. On my most recent visit, I had a terrific steak and frites entree (grilled steak, parmesan fries, truffle aioli) for $14.00. The students are professional and give excellent service; it's evident that CALV is doing a great job there.

I found this bistro on Yelp. I didn't realize it was a nonprofit culinary school and was so excited to be able to support it. I'm so glad we did. The food was delicious. When you enter in, the hostess explains to you that it is a school, so to be mindful that they are all learning and to please be patient. The food was extremely impressive, which was quite a surprise for the inexpensive price. The catfish was blackened to perfection with a tasty remoulade. The bayou shrimp cream sauce was pure buttery deliciousness, not to mention the shrimp was cooked to perfection. The steak was juicy and tender, the frites were perfect textured crispiness, even the garnish of micro greens and what seemed to be fried potato slivers. All the flavorful sauces were made from scratch. The lime remulsion sauce perfectly complimented the moist salmon. The breading on the chicken was light and very crispy with a subtle taste of buttermilk on the tender chicken. We unfortunately didn't have room for dessert, but I have no doubt it will be amazing. I totally recommend it especially for the good cause. Just go with a little extra time and patience for the students.

Wow this place is such a little hidden gem! It's located on the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas campus. The inside is pretty small, maybe about 10 tables and the restaurant is ran by students. The menu changes often and features a few items made to order or the $9 buffet. That's a deal you can't beat. On my recent visit I opted for the buffet which featured soups, a few salads, baked chicken, fish, pizza, potatoes and a few desserts. The options weren't super vast, but they were quite tasty. I'm looking forward to making more frequent visits and trying more options.

The Westside Bistro is a hidden gem! A student-run restaurant on the Culinary Academy campus on Lake Mead is open for lunch 11a-2p Monday through Friday. We love coming here not just to enjoy the delicious, fresh and beautifully prepared food, we like supporting the Academy while paying really affordable prices. Our waiter Tony was attentive, friendly and worked to ensure everything was right. My turkey croissant sandwich with arugula, tomato, avocado and bacon plus a side salad was delicious! DH had a cheeseburger and fries and he said it tasted seriously amazing. He's a burger connoisseur so that says something. I'm kinda torn- I want to tell the world about how great they are but I don't want it to get too popular. Might be too late oh well! Posting their current menu plus a photo of my lunch.

Will they bring back the buffet ? Nothing used to be over nine dollar . Seen their new menus , now new prices . It's A shame .

Every Friday is buffet day now! It's ~$15 per person. Menu item choices are limited on Fridays, likely due to the buffet.

My husband is definitely more of a foodie and I'm happy to try new things but usually stick to what I know. We ended up doing the Chefs Tasting menu to try a little bit of everything and wow! The staff was kind but our waitress was 10/10 on her own! Super attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, our water glasses were always full and she was incredibly kind. The overall vibe of the place was intimate with the darker lighting, music was on but not blaring and even with the tables a little closer together I felt like you were still able to have privacy. The oysters were amazing! One was chilled and one was cooked. My favorite was the chilled and my husbands favorite was the cooked. I had never had oysters before and am now a huge fan! We added the Foie Gras to our menu and were blown away by how good it was! First time trying it, all the rave about Foie Gras is true! The snapper tostada is another highlight for us! So fresh and delicious and all the flavors went together incredibly well. Overall we really enjoyed our dining experience, trying new things and will definitely be back whenever we come out this way again.

We felt none of the dishes were good - in fact all were just mediocre at best. We ordered the Isaan Sausage, Oxtail Hummus, Grilled Oysters, and the Spanish Octopus. We wanted to order more, but with each disappointing bite after another, we just decided not to order any more. The first three dishes came out all within 5-7 minutes...and then the octopus came out maybe 15 minutes after the last dish. Service was spotty...we were told they would bring fresh plates but we ate a course with no plates, the snack dish came out third, I left the credit card on the table for 10 minutes and no one came. The Issan Sausage snack was salty - initial flavors reminded me of Vietnamese flavors but just didn't work for our palette. The oyster dish was ok but again, very salty. The hummus was bland and the oxtail added no flavor or texture. They tried to add crunch with the chickpeas but they felt like bothersome flossing issues to be dealt with later. The naan was more like an under toasted pita bread and there was no flakiness. The octopus dish was ok but nothing to write home about. If you follow my reviews, I try to always give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and I rarely give poor reviews. Unfortunately there just weren't too many positives in this dining experience. But as always, maybe the food just didn't suit our taste but will suit yours. We decided very quickly to head over to Palace Station for their pan roast.

The waitstaff were dressed very casual, jeans and t-shirt casual. Although the food is upscale, everything else about this place seems very casual diner like. We could even see most of the work going on in the small kitchen. Mostly shareable plates... Our table chose the deviled eggs with caviar - these were a hit! Dynamite shrimp, most at the table liked these, they were spicy and the flavor was decent, but I just felt like the sauce made the breading a bit soggy and it wasn't a favorite of mine. Pork Belly - This had a buffalo sauce on it, which I wasn't too excited about at first, but it worked better than I expected. Wish it was just a little crispier but it was tender and I enjoyed it. Oxtail risotto - this one had mixed reviews from the table, I really enjoyed it. The flavor was good. There's only a small amount of meat and it's shredded into the risotto. Overall the consistency was a little weird, very thick and almost sticky/dry, plus the dark color. They had a steak on the menu and the flavor was great, one of the pricier menu items but it was a good share. My wife ordered a burger without the bun. She said the patty was well over-cooked and so it was pretty dry. They don't offer gluten-free buns or bread - bummer. The service was generally prompt, but seemed uncoordinated at times. For example, it seemed our waitress was also handling a very large party outside on the patio, and randomly the hostess would bring us a drink refill (hostess stand was right beside our table). That's good in a way, they are all a team, but she also picked up my plate and silverware after only the first appetizer - mind you they bring everything out as it's ready, so don't expect the whole table to eat together, you are expected to share! When I asked if she could replace my silverware, she grabbed a fork and knife and handed to me, but they weren't rolled in a napkin or anything, just barehanded me some silverware... anyway, I thought that was odd. Overall, the food had some bright spots and perhaps worth a lunch if you are downtown. I probably wouldn't seek it out again, but I'm not mad about the meal we had either.
