Came in for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. I believe our server was also our bartender - she did great with both positions! BF had the featured maple old fashioned with Jefferson's small batch (bourbon lovers, this is a great variety). It was a nice drink! (Pictured drink is mine, a Grey goose and cranberry) For starters, we opted for the bronzed tuna bites. They were nicely seasoned - a little overdone, we asked medium-rare but more medium than we wanted. Accompanying remoulade was nice. We both chose to "eat healthy" and each ordered the big steak salad. I love acid (not the lysergic kind) so I ate mine with their mustard vinaigrette. BF had bleu cheese dressing, which added to the existing bleu cheese already on the salad. The steak itself was nicely cooked to medium rare as requested, and the greens were crisp and fresh. A nice topping that I didn't intend to eat and put aside (but ate anyway bc they were delicious) were their fried straw onions. Lots of variety of food and spirits to choose from. Always busy and always good! Whiskey Kitchen never disappoints. The pizzas are cooked to perfection and their key lime pie is DECADENT!

We went by The Whiskey Kitchen (TWK) after a quick look at the Navy Exchange in Oceana. My husband was in the mood for burgers and we noticed TWK on the way to the NEX so we planned to stop there for dinner before heading back home. - Parking - Private lot. It was a Friday night so it was getting pretty packed. - Vibe - It seemed like the place to be on a Friday night. It was pretty busy, so the noise level was on high. The lighting was pretty dim too. Probably not the best place for kids, but what can we do? Can't leave them at home by themselves just yet and they need to adapt (within reason). I am pretty impressed with their Kids menu though (more on that later). - TLC - I should have taken note of her name, because she was great and credit should be given where credit is due, but she was a blonde woman with pigtails that night. She was very attentive and super sweet! - Noms & Sips - Buffalo Cauliflower Bites - we got these based on the reviews. It is a nice sized portion, served with slices of cukes and both blue cheese and ranch. The cauliflower was not too hard and not mushy either. I liked the breading on the cauliflower and the buffalo sauce was pretty good (it's on the vinegary side FYI). The waitress actually just told us that it was on the house because she said it took too long. A bit of a wait is no bother to us, but the gesture is ALWAYS appreciated. The just shows what kind of people are running the show. Bonus points from me! Whiskey Burger - my husband ordered this burger. In his words "this burger is actually cooked at a medium" meaning, it was actually cooked the way he requested. I know that sounds funny, but we often go to restaurants asking for the burger to be cooked at a certain temp and more often than not, it's always overcooked. Not here! He seemed to enjoy it. Braised Short Ribs - When I read this item on the menu, I LOVED the idea of it, but sometimes, what you read and what you picture is not what you get. Let's just say it was different. No fault of the restaurant. The braised short rib itself was cooked well with baby carrots (which I oddly thought was Vienna sausages at first - the sauce dyed the carrots brown!) and mushrooms. Now this is the part I wasn't expecting. I thought it was going to be more like a stew, so I thought it would be thicker, but it was more like a broth. Also, if I can make a suggestion, I think this would be best served with mashed potatoes! The potatoes in this dish were cubed potatoes (like home fries) that were fried and then placed in the broth which then became soggy. I just would not have put a fried item back in liquid. Maybe serve it on the side? But the flavor overall was good. I would just rethink the potato portion. - Kids - I always pay close attention to the Kids menu at restaurants. I mean, they are their momma's daughters hahaha! I feel like there are no in betweens, restaurants either get something frozen to fry or they put the same TLC as they do for the adults. I mean, would you eat what you are ordering your kids? I think it's so important to serve the kids similar quality meals as restaurants make for the adults! I was pretty impressed with the quality of the meals at TWK for kids! *Kids meal come with a drink Grilled chicken with House chips - my oldest got this and seemed to enjoy it. It doesn't really come with any sauce. My daughter asked for some sauce and I had noticed "Korean ribs" on the menu and asked our lovely waitress if we could have a side of it. She really enjoyed it! Grilled Cheese with fries - my youngest seemed to enjoy her dish as well. If you look at the pics of their dishes, you'll see that it's not just a frozen item they decided to deep fry and serve. Overall, I rounded up to 5 stars based on the service, the sweet gesture, the burger and the quality of the kids meals. I'll just try something different next time we stop by! I stopped by for lunch; I waited for about 5 minutes outside because there were only two cars outside. I thought I had made a bad selection and debated whether to go somewhere else.. Multiple cars started coming in, so I decided I'd better go in and get seated. I'm glad I did, because it got crowded pretty quickly. I had the Whiskey burger, fries and a Caesar salad. Whiskey burger was flavorful and cooked as I asked. I didn't eat the bun, but it looked good and was toasted. I wish the burger was a little larger. Fries were hot to temperature, seasoned just right and plentiful. Caesar salad was tasty, it had a garlic flavor and plenty of cheese. Spouse went to this restaurant in order to purchase some appetizers and soup. She was given an estimated wait time over the phone of about an hour. This was acceptable due to the significance of the day. She arrived at the restaurant about an hour and fifteen minutes later and after paying she was told it would be another 20 minutes and that they would bring it out to the car. 20 to 30 minutes gone by and nothing. Spouse goes back in and hostess forgets who she is and forgets that she was supposed to bring the food out. Come to find out the food was sitting on the counter the entire time, now cold. My family was a group of 8 on a Sunday evening. We experienced a very short wait. They were not taking reservations. Our group ranging from 25 through 62 rated the food as "average". My "Distilled Burger" was thin and overdone for medium rare. The best part was the lettuce, onion and Brioche bun. Great sweet potato fries! Three people with other types of burgers had the same assessment. Tuna burgers (2) were disappointingly thin for the price but somehow were cooked properly for rare and medium rare. Most of the food admittedly is burgers or specialty items but it's things that go well with the drinks that they serve. I've been to this location maybe 6 or 8 times over the last 5 years. The wait staff are always Pleasant and efficient. The price is about right for what you get which is a nice change of pace compared to some places like Yardbird which gets you the same thing but for about plus 50% read more

Don't get me wrong, the food here is good, but every time I sub a Beyond patty on one of their burgers (which costs extra), it comes out on a plain ciabatta roll with no cheese regardless of which burger I choose. This happens every time. Tonight was the last straw when the waiter actually argued with me about what I ordered. Came on Sunday, we were a party of five. Seated quickly although getting full inside, and server was timely and pleasant. Ordered the sangria and beers which were good, but the food was lackluster. The bbq chicken sandwich was ok, but the Pungo pizza had very few pieces of goat cheese or balsamic glaze, or even basil.. The chicken Rockefeller had very little spinach Parmesan cream, maybe in a third of a side of the sandwich. The chimichurri steak came out cold and the sauce was hardly blended, as if it was barely put together before going on the plate. If only one plate had an issue I probably would have said something to the sever to address it, but with everyone's plate missing toppings or cold, it seemed more like a systemic issue, like they lack sufficient ingredients or are trying to save on sauce? Whatever the case, all the food was disappointing and certainly not worth the price. Sadly, we will not return and we cannot recommend this place. read more

This was our 3rd visit only because we usually have a child who is past hungry. They can have a wait if you're past 7... we were seated fairly quickly and our waitress was very attentive and kept us apprised of our drink and food orders. The whiskey cocktails are all very good. Food is wonderful, more than delicious! The kind of food you roll your eyes at! We had fried pickles and buffalo cauliflower for appetizers. The crispness of the cauliflower bites was spot on. The flavor was perfect and not too hot. The pickles were crisp and tart. My son and dil got two different pizzas and both were thoroughly enjoyed. Only 1/2 eaten but we brought it home. I got fish tacos which were tuna. Not some white mild fish but tuna! And cooked to perfection. The waitress said it was the same as the tuna bites appetizers. My side was house chips. I'm so satisfied at our meals. Many times I leave a restaurant disappointed but not here. This is definitely my favorite local place. I just need to remember how much we love Whiskey Kitchen ! For entrées, we got the barbecue chicken sandwich and smothered chicken with a side of sweet potato fries... My favorite! This place is perfect for taking a big group, different ages and different tastes. It was a great choice for our family dinner & had something for everyone. We all had different menu items, but I ordered the Braised Short Ribs and they were exactly what I was craving for the past few weeks. The generous beef shank was perfectly braised, with carrots and potatoes, and served on a bed of potato hash (similar to breakfast potatoes). While it was great, it was a little salty, & I think mashe spotatoes would have offset the saltiness and given the diah a little more substance. I also tasted the she crab soup my grandma ordered and it was incredible. A silky bisque with a lump of crabmeat in the middle. It was so good she requested a pickup order of two soups the next day. We each had different meals, cocktails and beer and we all enjoyed each detail of our meal. I cannot forget to mention that the service was excellent and the waitress at our table was very welcomg and accommodating. *One thing to note is that restaurants and stores here do not require masks, so seeing servers without them was initially shocking.
