I had a cheeseburger and fries for $8. I tried to pay with a visa debit and was asked for cash which I normally don't carry, but happened to have. I arrived at 5:45 pm and was the only customer which seemed sketchy. My burger was served on a plate with a piece of paper on it which made me wonder if they were trying to avoid having to wash the plate. The place is advertised as being open since 1959, so it was partly the history of the place that attracted me but since the interior seemed dated and there was no traffic it made me think their glory days are behind them. While the walls were covered in somewhat interesting odds and ends it felt they could use a cleaning and refresh. It's a breakfast/hamburger diner with nothing of note on the menu. They have your standard burger variations and shakes. At least I have satisfied my urge to try it. read more

Best food and service in town. Owner and sons are very friendly with great service. I will eat them anytime I get a chance.

The food was ok, fish was fresh and tasty, fries were average. Found that the service was more than a bit gruff. I don't expect a chatty chatty type service but one that didn't make you feel you were putting them out by coming. Very expensive for what you receive. read more

I don't see myself going back sorry. it took over 30 min to just get my food the fries where not warm and they are quick to point a finger if they missed up the order that's not the way to be. this was my place to eat a burger now I need to find a new one read more

I grew up on these burgers and remember them fondly, but this place I'd definitely not what I remember. Maybe my tastebuds have grown, maybe I've become too empathetic to people's feelings and have spent too many years in the industry not to notice poor service, but... The owners/servers seemed absolutely miserable. I went in for the first time in at least 15 years about a month ago and still remember how this place did not give me warm and fuzzy feelings. I sat at the bar, because I was by myself and I remember staring at the wall until a guy finally took my order out of pity. Once I did get my food I was never checked on, despite basically being in their face due to my seating. I never witnessed a smile and I do remember doing my best charm one out of anyone who acknowledged me... Now about the food... I remember nothing about it due to the vibe foreshadowing, sadly. I won't be returning unless I'm entertaining a tourist with a halibut sandwich... Even then, probably not. read more

I was fooled by the high reviews. I had bacon, home fries, toast and eggs.The food is poorly made and not very good. The short order cook was not very skilled on the griddle. Only one choice of toast, broken over-easy fried egg, and very limp french fries heated on the griddle as breakfast potatoes. This diner is poor for breakfast. We went to The White Spot Cafe based on advice of a local, that this was where all the locals go! It is a little hole in the wall with limited seating, so I was a little concerned. The waitress came over & took our drink order promptly & was always on time with refills. At the counter I ordered the burgers & fries for the family. The burgers arrived as ordered & were fresh and BIG, with a side of hand cut french fries (not something from a frozen bag)! Food tasted great & was very filling. read more

This place is a great little dive bar with a PHENOMENAL halibut sandwich. I mean, that thing is good. Like, blow your mind good. It's the type of sandwhich that you'll refuse to share once you get one bite in you. The macaroni salad is also good (when it's available). I stopped by the White Spot after watching the Fur Rondy sled dog races while I was waiting for the Fur Factory down the street to complete the caribou cape the were making for me to wear during the Running of the Reindeer. I sat at the counter. The waitress took my drink order immediately. There is no need for menus. Everything they serve is on the boards at the back of the restaurant. I had the hamburger and fries for $7. The hamburger was nothing special and the fries were pretty greasy. I did enjoy the view from the counter. I was able to see the chef doing all the cooking. The White Spot has been around time and they display some of their history on the walls. It looks like this place has a lot of regulars including four policemen. Everyone was ordering the halibut sandwich. I saw the chef bread each piece of fish individually before cooking. He was not pulling out frozen patties and throwing them on the grill. The traditional diner atmosphere is pleasant, so it is probably worth stopping by to give the halibut a try. read more

The halibut plate is good; I might even say great, based on portion size. The coleslaw is nothing special, the place is a little run down, and its not the cleanest joint I've eaten in. But the staff was super friendly and attentive, and the cook seemed to get a kick out of the fact that someone had recommended the place to us. I wouldn't take my wife here, because shes very particular about dining, having worked in hospitality and food service for years. I don't think the White Spot in danger of a visit from Guy Fieri, but it met my standards for sure. read more

It's been a couple of years since we dined at the White Spot. Really nice new owners, great service but we were very disappointed in the high priced Halibut plates $19.00 each. We had dry Panko breaded fish that reminded us of over cooked cod. They need to have beer batter for their fish. We had halibut at F St. Station, way better meal and worth the money. We suggest you call before dining to see if it's panko Coated and not waste your $$$s!!! read more

I went here after a coworker raved about what amazing halibut sandwiches they have. I decided to try a burger; one of the best I've had in a while! I didn't realize going in that they only accept cash, I managed to just barely cover my food but they said don't worry about it. Had the halibut sandwich. I have to say that I was a bit disappointed after reading so many good reviews. Don't get me wrong. The sandwich is pretty good. I just think that it is a little too expensive with the amount of food I got. The sandwich is 14.50 and it didn't even fill me up. The fries was also not that great. Just 2 blocks from the center of town you can take a walk back in time to a diner filled with memorabilia. We went by for breakfast and had the very ample breakfast sandwich. It had a delicious thick slice of ham. We also bought 2 homemade blueberry pies in a jar. Absolutely delicious! read more

We were in Anchorage sight seeing for just a few hours when we happened to meet a past Iditarod racer, a real old timer. He said if we wanted good food then go to The White Spot Cafe. The decor is dated--consistent with the fact that it originally opened in 1946; however the food was delicious and service very friendly. The server found a unique way to address us all: he called my husband Mickey because he was wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt from Disney world, called me The Cougar due to my BYU Cougars sweatshirt, my daughter vanilla because she ordered a vanilla shake, and called my son in law Utah off his Utah State shirt. The vanilla shake was a genuine homemade shake with great vanilla-y taste! My blackened halibut was TO DIE FOR!! The hamburgers were moist, vegetables fresh, fries hot and plentiful....in a word DELICIOUS!! Seven of us ate there for $63 so prices are very reasonable! Even though they knew we were just passing through and would probably never be there again, the staff was friendly and conversational. We heartily recommend The White Spot Cafe!!! read more

3 words...best. burger. ever. I absolutely love the jalapeño bacon cheddar burger. OMG!!! Anchorage really does the burger right! When you walk in, the 'waiter/waitress' will take your drink order and bring you your drinks. I say 'waiter' because the cook will take your food order from behind the counter. My family and I went in and the guy got all 5 orders correct without writing anything down. I've heard the halibut burger is awesome but I can't bring myself from ordering anything but the burger. It's that good. I love this place. My nephew is visiting and said the same thing about the burger. read more
