This Think Coffee is casually becoming my "spot". If you're a coffee lover, you'll know what I mean when I say that sometimes it's hard to get coffee at night in NYC. Think is a gem in those situations because it stays open until 11p on the weekdays! But not just the hours: the staff are friendly, the music is throwback, and the shots they pull are considerably decent. Some downsides to be noted are that they don't have too many outlets, and I don't believe they have wifi. Bring a jacket because sometimes the AC is a little too strong also. But for me, these are not deal breakers. If you care about vibe and good coffee and chill baristas, this is your place! read more

Stopped by here while in the area for a quick chai latte and cookie. The cafe was pretty much packed, no seating inside but plenty outside (due to the freezing cold weather). Though it was packed, there wasn't much noise, seems much ppl were working on laptops, reading, or having low volume conversations. The chai latte i got was ok, tasted more like milk than tea. However, the gluten free cookie was delicious. Definitely try out some cookies, if you can. Worth noting: cups and lids are compostable, which is really important to me, so A++. read more

Let's just say that structural competency is a completely different way to think about how even despite the technology, progress and wealth of this country, the "structures" still make some of us more sick than others. I went to a very interesting conference in the area and I knew in the morning, I would need to start off with some powerful coffee to lube the neurons. This coffee shop is only a few blocks away from Cooper Union and thus far, I have liked all the Think Coffee places in the city. I stepped in yesterday morning and what a beautiful day it was. Firstly, it was Friday. Secondly, it was 75 and sunny. I was so happy. But what made me even happier was that they carry VEGAN pastries! I am still on this insane and arduous VEGAN quest, but Think Coffee really makes my life easier. Let's just say that their VEGAN peanut butter bar is like CRACK. I can't eat this every morning for breakfast because otherwise I will turn into an OOMPA LOOMPA and you will have to roll me down the street, but every once in awhile, it is so nice to have. It is a bar layered with a rice-krispy treat like layer on the bottom, then a layer of peanut butter, and then a layer of chocolate. It is PARADISE. They also have good coffee. Stopped in here after a morning work out to get my friend and I a little pick me up. Cute little place, very earth like and reminds me of my home town area coffee shops. Has many tables, so for students probably a good place to study. Love the biodegradable cups (another reminder of my hometown in CA). So if you love being green, definitely a place to support. They only have selection for drip coffee, their house brew. If you like your coffee strong then this place isn't too bad. I came in just to get out of the cold to check Yelp for dinner options while meeting a friend, and ended up lingering awhile. They have a small selection of fresh sandwiches, I actually ended up buying a vegan one with hummus, tomato, carrots, sprouts, cucumber and other good things and it was delicious! They also offer hot foods like grilled cheese. What really won me over was that they were playing Tom Waits. I heard Singapore and never wanted to leave. There was a homeless woman trying to hustle me for a few coins sitting at one of the tables. To know me? I asked if I could buy her her a small coffee, she declined and was chatty?? I quickly bought a latte along with a biscotti and ran outside to chat. We spoke about government conspiracies and the climate changes in January. How both President Bush's ruined the world. (I guess Clinton did everything right??) Anyhoo, lets talk coffee!? I love the offering of simple syrup, the nice layout of all the Think Coffees and the small sandwiches, pastries and muffins. 1000% better than say, Coffee Bean & Tea Co. I'll admit, I was sad coming here staring at the new face of CBGB, a face that I do not like. Ever since I was 7, I wanted to see a show at CBGB, not be able to buy a rhinestone encrusted, gaudy $100 tee-shirt. You know what? Think Coffee made me feel so much better, like a big hug from an old friend. I had the Brie & Granny Smith Apple sandwich, and I'm quite sure I've never had a better sandwich from anywhere. It was moist, flavorful, and the tartness of the apple was beautiful against the creaminess of the Brie. Wow. Coffee-wise, I just had the biggest drip coffee I could get to wake me up. Sustainable & delicious, that's the way to go! I loved that they recycled and composted. Truly every restaurant should take after Think Coffee in this aspect. I guess the only thing I hate about this place is that I live in Indiana and can't go every day! read more

I love Think's coffee...this location is a bit quieter and much less chaotic than the Union Sq. or West 4th st ones. I would recommend this one for casual studying or sitting with a friend. It had been a harsh weekend, and I found myself up at 11:00 am to meet my girl Kat H. Coffee. Bonding. Lady time. It all sounded so...difficult in my state. Once I got to Think, ordered my coffee, my Aranciata, and my Bagel with cream cheese and tomato, the fog started to lift. Just a bit. As I sat at my table, creating a wall of beverages (they have a pour your own water station), I noticed that I was in a great spot for people watching. Creeper liquid barrier and I had a grand old time watching various Europeans strutting from the Bowery Hotel to Soho for some inevitable shopping. Between bites of beautiful bagel, I peered at the old man writing furiously in his notebook. Every few minutes he would look up at me, and I would look away awkwardly. Sucks to get caught staring, am I right? Luckily, the bagel, and the strong coffee began to lift me to an amazing pinnacle of creep. I started to stare unabashedly, while waiting for my counterpart. The rich, brown liquid coursed through my veins with such power that I could have had a staring contest with any one of the total strangers in the cafe. Good shit! The Loko hangover was quickly dissipating, and I felt like a brand new woman! One who could fully take advantage of an outing with a girlfriend. Giggling. Gushing. Raging. I had a business meeting here on Saturday afternoon. While I cannot necessarily recommend it for those purposes, it is a colorful coffeeshop with an interesting atmosphere and a lively staff. I noted with pleasure the Indian accents to the coffee menu here. While most coffeeshops in DC appear almost obsessed with coffee from Ethiopia, it was nice to see diversity coming in the form of Southeast Asia for once. I skipped the coffee options and went with the chai latte. This milky, cardamon and cinnamon spiced treat was nice, filling, and mood-enhancing. I would recommend it for those individuals who tend to go with tea over coffee. I liked the color schemes and design of this place; it made the space rather inviting. An eclectic cast of characters walked through the doors with a decided graduate student bent. The staff wore interesting, indie-conscious clothing and seemed to genuinely enjoy their job without being pretentious (take note, DC). I did not get a chance to sample the menu, but it did include a number of different grilled cheese sandwiches (including one using Grafton Cheddar from Vermont). All items were fairly priced. I would like to know exactly what criteria Think Coffee used in selecting its employees, and what, if any, training these employees received in regards to..oh, say, COMMON SENSE. While waiting for my bagel this morning, I watched the barista make a hot chocolate. First, he started steaming some milk. While the milk was steaming, he added some chocolate syrup to a paper cup. As he was doing so, he accidentally knocked the cup onto the ground, and then just PICKED IT UP and finished making the drink. I was so horrified I couldn't speak. Maybe one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen any food service person do ever, and I've spent many years on the other side of the counter working at bars, coffee shops, and even--ahem--a national sandwich chain. I love me some Think Coffee and I probably always will, but this place loses major points for not having free wi-fi. What's the point of having a cute coffee shop in an awesome location like this with lots of comfy places to sit and work if you're not going to have wi-fi? It just does not compute for me, particularly when the other location is known as an awesome spot with wi-fi. How about a little brand consistency here, people? i almost took off two stars, but I had to bump it up because i had not one but two quality celeb sightings here. Awful. The iced coffee is extraordinarily overpriced. (Seriously, it's like a parody of what people in middle America think things cost in NYC). The staff was extraordinarily rude. Also, the coffee tastes like balls, and they don't have the proper lids for their sizes. I ordered a large (which was ultimately the same size as a small or a medium at a place that doesn't have all of their employees' heads shoved entirely up their own asses), and they scoffed at me to just use the medium lids for the large cup. Problem is, they don't fit snugly, so I ended up accidentally dumping half my coffee down my white blouse five minutes before a job interview. Thanks a lot, dicks. If you're going to charge over $3 for a tiny iced coffee, you can buy lids that actually fit your cups. Huff a dong. (I got the job, by the way. I told my interviewers what happened, and they were all "Oh yeah, Think Coffee is the worst. We get it.") read more

Think Coffee opens it's second location on the Bowery! Yay, closer to our apartment -- same organic, robust drip coffee, similar menu (yes, they will soon have the wine & cheese offerings in the evening) BUT the differences between the original location and this new Bowery location are: - smaller space (about half the seatage area of the Mercer Street location) - better music! on the two occasions I've been here, they played electronic versions of classical masterpieces, 80s songs and scandanavian pop...a BIG improvement over the gawd awful music I keep hearing at the Mercer Street location. - less NYU students camped out with their books and laptops (note to NYU students from an alumnus -- stay at the Mercer Street location!) But for espresso drinkers, the biggest difference (and most notable) is the shiny new La Marzocco espresso machine/system they have installed! Some opening glitches that I am sure will be ironed out soon: -No WiFi (yet) -They are only accepting cash (credit card terminal hasn't been configured) But other than that.....welcome Think Coffee, you are a bit closer to me now! read more

I make a point of stopping here every time I'm in the vicinity of NYU. Their coffee and espresso drinks are some of the strongest I've had, and they are very pleasant tasting despite being so strong. I like their sign explaining that they make their cappucinos the "real" way. With the crowds and traffic in here, it's surprsing that the Starbucks down the block stays in business; at the same time, it's a wonder that anyone is able to get any "thinking" done amid the hustle and bustle. read more

Environmentally conscious hippies and hipster hillbilly music + chunky soup and hot chocolate made by a dude with an overgrown beard painstakingly creates a chocolate syrup flower on top of before handing you = happiness. It's not for the over caffeinated in need of a quick fix and they didn't have sandwiches at this location yet , just salads ( I had to take off a star for that). The staff is really not the hard working/ so serious about robotic customer service type. Frankly, everyone clearly smokes too much pot for that, but they are nice. This morning, when my vegan friend went to pick up her soy latte from the barista, he handed over the beverage, called her order as per usual "soy latte" and then proceeded to raise an eyebrow and disdainfully tell her to "next time, try a REAL coffee." Disgraceful. My friend is vegan, so cannot drink regular milk and she was made to feel bad by someone she had just politely asked for a coffee. As a barista, never judge someone for the coffee they ordered, especially not outwardly and to their face. Sure, laugh about it later, but NEVER make the customer feel bad no matter how many syrups, extra foams or sprinkles on top they'd like. And this is SIMPLE SOY. Your customer likes their coffee how they like it and it is not up to judgmental, egotistical staff to make them feel like dirt. I think this is an absolute disgrace, it is an abomination that a barista should make their customer feel stupid for what they order. I will not be buying Think coffee again and I will be recommending other soy drinkers do the same. read more

The coffee was pretty good and the atmosphere was pleasant--- I came on a Saturday night to write for a while, and though it was crowded, it wasn't uncomfortable. An adequate coffee shop with little in the way of frills. Service is friendly, competent, and efficient. The selection of coffee is okay. I found my triple espresso to be really reasonably priced at exactly 2 cents less than their large coffee and well under $3. Their menu is eclectic and boasts some more unusual items: bagels with Nutella, grilled cheese sandwiches, hot apple cider, and glasses of wine. There was really no ambience to want to hang out here, so this is mostly a pick up and go type place. read more

So I ask why and he said that I did not tell him it should be in a normal cup. So I said, would I order a to-go cup if I'm having my grilled sandwiches here? No answer and he just slammed everything down the drain and lobbying the mug in the bin angrily. So if ordering things here be extra clear with the instructions of what's to stay and what is not or the crew here won't understand.
