I popped in here to grab a tea while I was waiting for my family to finish shopping. It was around 2 pm so it was busy inside and the majority of the seats inside were taking, so I placed my order and grab an outside table. Inside is like an old school tea room and they had plenty of pastries and food. I wish I had been hungry because a lot of the things I saw looked amazing. Plus the food was all in the beginning so if you saw something you liked you didn't have to hold up the line picking what you wanted. I ordered the moroccan mint green tea and sat outside and people watched. However, if I lived here, I would definitely come here to work on my laptop or to have a meetup. The service was good. I the baristas were sweet and informative. When I'm in Boston again, I'll definitely come back to check out the food, so my review is a bit more detailed. read more

love love love this place! After leaving my last review about how the mocha really wasn't chocolate-y enough the owner Andre messaged me and suggested I try the hot chocolate with a shot of espresso. I did and it MY MIND WAS BLOWN! It was wonderfully rich, dark, not-too-sweet chocolate with a nice kick of espresso. It seriously tasted like chocolate heaven in a cup!! After a great meal at Wabora about a block away - see my previous review - I wanted coffee. I found Thinking Cup and liked the look of it right off the bat. This is the only coffee shop I've been to that seemed tailored to the professional crowd as well as groups of friends or students. There were a ton of people in dress shirts discussing their portfolios and their Scrooge McDuck fortunes. I have no doubt that some of the deals that led to the 2008 recession were made on Thinking Cup's patio. But I can't really talk; I'm a lawyer. When I stick my hand into your pocket, I have to arm wrestle the banker to decide who gets your wallet. The coffee shop looks really nice on the inside too. The tables had old newspaper articles on them which I thought was fantastic. My table had some spilled coffee on it but I wasn't bothered because it wasn't a huge spill. My mocha was creamy, frothy, and had chocolate that was not too sweet mixed into it. This was refreshing because it lent a much richer and more sophisticated taste to the coffee. I also appreciated the foam design. Every coffee shop is good for certain activities regardless of the quality of its products. Some are good for quiet study or reading. Others are great for animated conversation or shooting the breeze with other patrons. Thinking Cup may be a little distracting for the readers and studyers with laptops but it's great for the power lunch crowd, people looking for a fun atmosphere and, of course, robust coffee. read more

This spot is really great. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting. All of the baristas are generally friendly and upbeat. I ordered the Hazelnut latte based on a Yelp recommendation and was not disappointed. The only downside about this place is that it is hard to find seat but that's the same in most all coffee shops. The seating is also very comfortable. Definitely a spot where you can relax and zone into a good book or great conversation. I will definitely plan to stop in here for a quick caffeine fix every time I am around Newbury street area. read more

Tasty iced berry tea, lemon poppy scone, and decent macaroons (mmm lavender is my new favorite flavor!) Love this place and their flavored syrups. We got a large iced coffee with vanilla ginger syrup and a small iced hazelnut latte. The hazelnut syrup has bits of hazelnut- yum! I went there to work off my laptop but came to a shock and left immediately when I saw people down there had no cellphone service and they don't provide WiFi. Espresso drinks are average but definitely one of the better places in Boston, and the food is good here. I've gotten different sandwiches here and liked them. It's always quite busy though, and the drinks came out really slowly every time I went. They also messed up a few people's orders one time while I was there (people grabbing other people's orders, wrong things on the sandwich, etc etc), so perhaps it's not the place to go if you are in a hurry. But it is a nice cafe right on Newbury Street, and a place to chill at when you are sick of all those fancy shops. read more

I tried the grilled cheese which was OK, pricey for bread and cheese and didn't even have much cheese in it ($7.95). They only allow you to get one type of cheese without charging extra, which was disappointing. The coffee is good but also pricey (most drinks are between $4-5). I tried the tofu Bahn mi sandwich which was ok- tofu was bland but they add picketed vegetables and spicy sauce which helps. The whole wheat chocolate chip cookie was a bit dry but ok. This particular Thinking Cup can get super busy because it's on Newbury Street, so I think a lack of seating and tons of people crammed into a narrow space should be expected. Tonight I went around 8:45 PM and it was still fairly snug, but much less busy and bustling due to the fact that it was later on at night. I shared an iced coffee and a piece of cheesecake with my boyfriend and it was very enjoyable! I really like this location a lot when it's not as busy because of the compact store size- it gives a very cozy kind of vibe. Tonight, the atmosphere was relaxing and tranquil, especially with the dimmed, (slightly?) orange-tinted lighting. I have been here a number of times and have tried a few different sandwiches. The Barcelona Bliss takes the win! The spicy chorizo paired with the manchego cheese and aioli is the perfect combination. I have craved this sandwich in the middle of the night before and the very next day I go and get it, It's that addicting. It'll be your new favorite sandwich. The service is fairly fast and your order is ready within minutes. Although sometimes there can be a line and hard to find a seat, it is definitely worth the wait. If you're looking for a nice drink pairing the hot chocolate is some of the best I've ever had. It's true thick Italian chocolate. read more

My friend Amanda G. once let me try some of the Thinking Cup's macarons, saying this was her favorite place in Boston. They were the best I've ever had. So the next time I was in Back Bay, I had to come visit the place for myself. It's small but cute, with many people waiting to swoop in on vacating tables on this cold day. I picked up a regular latte and a couple of macarons, while my friends both tried the hazelnut latte. The coffee was rich and smooth, quite reminiscent of Blue Bottle Coffee. My friends loved the pureness of the roasted hazelnut in their coffee, and we all admired the latte art on each cup. We also enjoyed a slice of Boston creme cake, and my macarons (lavender and rose, my favorites) were expectedly wonderful. This place is just a tad overpriced (IMO), but I hate to imagine how much more business they'd have if it were cheaper! read more

Just a review on the food. Had a medium 12 oz hazelnut latte ($4.55), not sweetened and nice that way. Maybe it has chunks of ground hazelnut as it was a little chunky and I was chewing something. Zucchini bread: a bit greasy or something as it left a huge stain on the paper bag. Otherwise tasted good. Chocolate nutella croissant: the croissant part was deliciously flaky but I did not like the chunks of Nutella in it. Stay classic with pan au chocolate. Bacon brioche: delicious. read more

Convenient location, near by Boston commons. Ordered a customized grilled cheese and a medium iced coffee. I'm not a strong coffee drinker and so the iced coffee here is just right for me. I usually drink my coffee black unless it has acidic taste then I put milk in. The ice coffee here is not bitter at all and taste great without adding anything extra. This was probably the highlight of my trip in Boston. Although I had fun sightseeing and people watching, this tiny little café really stole my heart. My freshly brewed coffee and lox bagel were delicious, and I enjoyed sipping my coffee at a leisurely pace while the people in the café swarmed around me. It just so happens that one of the two times I visited Thinking Cup while on my week-long excursion to Boston was also Easter Sunday. So yes, it was literally swarming. Nonetheless, it did not take away for the magical ambiance. The interior space is dimly lit, making the entire dining area glow a beautiful amber color. The café is actually situated below ground so you have to go down a short set of stairs to order. Although this means less space, it makes Thinking Cup feel homey and welcoming. My encounters with the staff, although short, were spectacular. The entire team was bubbling with joy and positivity. I hope I get the chance to visit Thinking Cup again! Highly recommend! read more

I grabbed a small cup of drip coffee from here. I was happy to find that they had soy milk available at the milk bar (no extra charge). The coffee was delicious! The cafe itself is located in the North End near most of the Italian restaurants and is a cozy find. There are lots of tables and booths and has a very productive vibe. For me, the food is mediocre at best... I've heard others raving about it while in there but it's just not for me. The coffee and service on the other hand deserve six stars. I've been going to this location since it first opened. The turnover of employees is way lower then other similar establishments. What that equals to is a staff you get to know on a first name basis that are super friendly and ready help.. it also equals to a consistency of a latte you know you will enjoy. This is the type of place where you walk in with a smile and you know that smile will be returned. HOME AWAY FROM HOME I have been religiously coming to the Thinking Cup for many years. It is by far my favorite local coffee shop in all of Boston. A neighborhood spot where the the food and drinks are delicious but more than anything the service is incredible. As I was grazing the menu, I felt extremely pressured by the staff to order. I ended up ording a sea salt cookie, a cheesecake, a latte, and a chai latte. Sea salt cookie, what i was expecting was a sweet chocolate chip cookie with a hint of sea salt to balance it out. What I got, piles upon piles of sea salt is what it felt like. The chai latte, you mean a cup of milk? Not only that, but strange black and green specs at the bottom of the cup. Now the latte, the worst of them all. Flavor was subpar but worst of all, the black grainy specs that scratched my throat with every sip. So bad, I was horrified. I haven't been able to drink a latte since. The portions aren't too enormous, but the food quality speaks more so than anything else. Almost everything we ordered was delicious!! Almond croissant, bacon brioche, bacon cheddar scone, blueberry muffin, oatmeal, Nutella croissant and the chocolate chip cookies! The snickerdoodle was not what I expected...it was a little too much like bread, I was expecting a cookie consistency.
