    Smashed avo toast (to go)
    Stacey I.

**Review is based on to-go order/service Vive La Tarte is open on Thanksgiving Day until 2 pm. Upon arrival, my eyes automatically caught a glimpse of their warm, cozy cafe ambiance, their glass box filled with fluffy pastries, and the open cafe bar concept. It was nice. FOOD: 8/10 COFFEE: 9/10 SERVICE: 7/10 What I ordered: Smashed Avocado Toast with a Poached Egg Iced Vanilla Latte with Oatmilk FOOD: 8/10 I ordered the Smashed Avocado Toast with a Poached Egg, and it was a decent choice. The toast itself was thick, well-toasted, and had that perfect balance of crunchy edges with a softer center that held up well under the toppings. The avocado was fresh, creamy, and perfectly seasoned. The poached egg did not give the runny yolk effect that I was looking for and was more like a mildly soft-boiled egg. COFFEE: 9/10 I ordered the Iced Vanilla Latte with oatmilk, and it was honestly really good. The oatmilk tasted smooth and creamy, and they did a great job keeping the vanilla syrup light, the way I like it. The vanilla syrup was enough to add flavor without turning the drink overly sweet. The balance between the espresso, oatmilk, and vanilla was spot on, and everything blended nicely. The only small thing keeping it from being a perfect 10/10 is that it leaned just slightly on the lighter side, but flavor-wise and texture-wise, it was a delicious, solid iced latte. SERVICE: 7/10 To be fair, I ordered my food to go, so there wasn't much service or interaction to experience. What caught me off guard, though, was that there wasn't a greeting or anyone checking in to see what I needed. A few customers passed in front of me before anyone noticed I was waiting to ask about my order. Eventually, I learned that I just needed to wait off to the side and pick it up from the pickup table, which might've been obvious to regulars, but wasn't clear to me at first. Overall, stopping by on a holiday was a great choice. The place was calm, the wait time was smooth, and Vive La Tarte totally satisfied my craving for a decent and filling avocado toast and a simple yet delicious iced latte.

We started off with the chocolate coconut croissant and OMG... it was so good!! The cashier said it was their favorite pastry, and now I totally get why. The croissant was perfectly flaky, had just the right hint of coconut, and was topped with a perfect amount of powdered sugar. It was between that or the almond croissant... so I guess I have my excuse to come back ;) My husband got the fried egg sandwhich and it was so good. We love an egg in our sandwich but sometimes it gets messy and ends up all over us but not this time! The egg was cooked just right and no mess.. Yay! I got the BLT and added avocado and wow...they did not skimp on the bacon. Every single bite had a strip of bacon!! Both sandwiches came on sourdough that was toasted to perfection. Service was super smooth - you order up front, grab a number, and they bring everything right to you. There's even a spot to drop off your dishes when you're done (love that). All in all, such a cute and tasty spot! Can't wait to come back and try that almond croissant next time!

    SF S.F. Cheesecake

Got to try the SF cheesecake from here! It's a basque-like cheesecake with a Speculoos cracker crust. Definitely one of the best cheesecakes I've had. It wasn't overly sweet, had a nice buttery crust, and was smooth and velvety!

The first time, cake cut well and didn't collapse.

I ordered their cheesecake before and some family members loved it which is why I bought another one recently. Unfortunately, the second time was beyond disappointing. The cake wasn't as flavorful and the texture was completely off. It didn't look, taste or feel like it was properly set. The cake practically collapsed when I first cut into it. The first time I bought it, the cake's integrity remained even after a couple days. But this time, it became so sloppy after one day. TLDR the cheesecake this time was very goopy and liquidy, two words that should never describe a cheesecake. And for $62, I am quite disappointed. I don't think I will be coming back now nor continuing to recommend it to friends and family.

I love this cafe! The people here are always friendly and I enjoy their coffee & pastries/sandwiches. They have a lot of seating indoors as well as seating outside. I usually get the hot latte and yesterday I tried their almond croissant. It had almond fillings and toasted almonds sprinkled on top. Tasty!

I don't know if my experience was just on an off day for them or what... I didn't see their note taped to the counter that their expressing machine was broken, and they probably should've put a sign on the door or outside. I had the worst bitter $4 drip coffee ever. What's worse, is that the cup was of a poor quality such that the coffee was coming out out of the seams. I didn't realize this until it had leaked all in my car cupholder. Pastries were very good, still crisp. I recommend the almond croissant, but the turmeric monkey bread was a little too spicy.

    Breakfast Tacro

Vive La Tarte is a quaint cafe/bakery located in Noe Valley. In a smaller city, I could see this being a premier bakery. Unfortunately, in SF the competition is fierce, and unless you're close by, I think you'd be better served at another establishment. That isn't to say that the pastries were bad, they just fall short to the city's exceptional standards. Breakfast Tacro: While the execution left much to be desired, the foundational premise of this meal is solid. A breakfast taco, but with a croissant as a bae holds much promise. Unfortunately, the filling of the taco was poorly chosen. There was far too much pickled cabbage, the bacon was overdone, and there was but a suggestion of egg. The croissant itself was satisfactory. Orange Blossom & Zaatar Croissant: This pastry has a lot of potential, and I could see it perhaps just not being consistent this morning. The orange blossom cream had wondeful floral notes. Unfortunately, there just wasn't enough to make the flavor distinct. Additionally, the croissant had too much chew for my liking.

Cold Brew, a Matcha Latte, a Pain au Chocolat, and the Key Lime Croissant (instagram: wooneats)

My table ordered a Cold Brew, a Matcha Latte, a Pain au Chocolat, and the Key Lime Croissant, which came out to about $25 total. I honestly never thought I was a key lime dessert person until I tried their croissant--it completely won me over. The drinks gave us the perfect pick-me-up, and both pastries were wonderfully flaky with just the right amount of sweetness. The fillings were flavorful without being overwhelming, and everything felt really fresh. Overall, it was a simple but really satisfying stop.

Matcha latte left much to be desired. Egg sandwich was bigger than expected but still not worth the $17 price imo. The sourdough was fresh and flavorful but not anything spectacular happening besides that. The vibes inside the place is cool. I'd even come back just for the atmosphere - bright, clean, inviting

9:30 am, Saturday: As they say on Instagram, I was today years old when I discovered cast iron sourdough made fresh daily at Vive La Tarte. Anything on top of that bread is going to shine, so no surprise I'm in love with their avocado toast. Avo mash, farmer's cheese, topped with pickled tomatillos, cherry tomatoes. I customized a bit substituting fried egg & nixed the basil aioli. Perfection. There's a parklet & cafe tables outside. Lovely interior, plenty of seating. First thing In the door you are met with a case of pastries that make you want to believe carbs aren't real. At the back is a full on bakery. It was all I could do not to buy a giant bag full of every pastry they had left. And now I'm regretting it. Next time.

    Orange Blossom & Zaatar Croissant

I was passing by Noe Valley on a late morning and thought to pick up some pastries for dessert. There are a few other bakeries in the neighborhood, but I felt like a croissant. I was told by my daughter that their key lime croissant was especially good! Now, she has a citrus allergy which gives her an itchy rash on her palms, but she likes this croissant so much that she's willing to eat this even though she's allergic! So I had to give this one a try. I also picked up an orange blossom & zaatar croissant as well, since it was the last one left. The cafe was cozy and modern. And the lady behind the counter was sweet and patient as I thought about what I wanted. KEY LIME CROISSANT ~ this one has key lime filling that tastes like you're eating a slice of key lime pie! They give you a substantial amount of filling too! The croissant is flakey and buttery as it should be. Nicely presented with a lime on top! 5/5 ORANGE BLOSSOM & ZAATAR CROISSANT ~ this one has a cardamom spice and the texture of the filling is like an almond croissant. It was good, but not great as there was less filling than anticipated. I didn't taste much of the zaatar. I think there's just a sprinkle on top. A bit underwhelmed. 3.5/5 I'd come back for a key lime croissant when I'm in the area again as it was memorable and delicious! Now I know why my daughter loves the key lime!

Cute modern, but naturally aesthetic coffee shop/bakery, great for work-study or catch-up! Was in the area for coffee and stopped by at this shop. Got a hot mocha and the pastry box to go. The wait wasn't terrible-- ~5mins for my order. The mocha was very traditional. Light on sweetness. Unfortunately, mine was served lumpy and somewhat poorly mixed. By the time I got halfway through the drink, lumps of melted chocolate came through. The pastry box consisted of 5 different pastry items: - Regular Croissant~ which was fluffy, had great layers, buttery. - Almond Croissant~ Same fluffy and buttery base with toasted almonds. Not too sweet. - Chocolate Croissant~ Same fluffy and buttery base, one row of chocolate. (Great heated up in air fryer prior to eating). - Orange Blossom and Zaatar Croissant~ this was an interesting one, and not my type of pastry. The orange flavor is present but with the mix of zaatar, this croissant was quite flavorful. I recommend trying, but certainly not for everyone's taste - Tumeric Monkey Bread~ This pastry was also interesting. Although sweet, there was an underlying spicy feeling. All in all this place was interesting. With decent space and a quiet setting during the weekdays, this place makes a nice work-from-home or study area.

    Orange-Blossom and Zaata'ar Croissant
    Michael C.

I stopped by on a Saturday morning. Really busy, line was out the door and mostly all the seating was taken both inside and out. The croissants are super fresh; they were carrying them fresh from the back. I got the Orange-Blossom and Zaata'ar Croissant, and it was definitely not your standard croissant. You can probably tell from the picture, but the crust is super delicate and not a thick crispy layer. I didn't like it as much as your standard croissant, because the textural difference between the crust and the layered inside was significantly less. The Zaata'ar punch also wasn't that strong. The orange-blossom was delicious as a paste layered throughout. I also got a cortado, and pretty poorly made. Almost no foam layer, muddied, and a lot more sour than I would have liked. Overall, seems like a good spot to grab a table and catch up, but wouldn't come back purely for the food!

After my first visit, I knew I had to bring someone else here to try it, and this time we decided to try some of their food. We got the Sohn Breakfast Sandwich and Galbi Patty Melt to share, and let me tell you, we absolutely finished everything within 5 minutes. It was that good. I usually don't even like sandwiches that much, but these were honestly so enjoyable that I didn't mind at all. Both were flavorful, filling, and had such a good balance of textures that made every bite satisfying. Of course, we had to get the Sohn Signature Matcha Cream Top again because it's one of my favorites. The cream top is so smooth and pairs really well with the matcha without being overly sweet. We also tried the Banana Matcha Oat Milk Latte, and I was actually surprised by how much I liked it. I usually don't like banana-flavored things, but this was one of the few banana drinks that I didn't mind. I'm not a usual fan of kimchi, but honestly, this was mouth watering, would 10/10 recommend. The bread itself was delicious. Flaky and soft. The matcha wasn't out of this world, I give it a basic 6/10. The Melona Matcha Latte was so much better. So was the Melona Soda. Would so come back since they also host classes and have some pretty great food.

I feel like Yoshoku in general may be next but I yet again digress. The box sandwich came in a cute little box. The inside was packed so I couldn't get a chance to fully appreciate the cafe, but the service was nice though the pay line may have moved slower than hoped. I'll say this. This is "the" best katsu sando in the bay. The katsu is crispy, but little on the softer side. But this hardness matches perfectly with the absolutely tender, soft, juicy pork wrapped inside. I'm looking at the menu again and it all makes sense. The pork has been in shio koji, making the meat ever so tender while adding the subtle but complicated marinated flavor. The cabbage is plenty, but not over packed to take away from the main Katsu flavor. What really perfects it for me, was not only the sweet and savory katsu sauce, but the mayo with dash of I think a karashi mustard. That slight tingle, the perfect kick gives a powerful awakening of flavor that really sets the it apart. This is art, an artisan.
