I've never had Detroit style pizza before and it did not disappoint, the crust was so perfectly golden and crispy. The pepperoni was nice and crispy and complemented the cheese and sauce. Their ranch is also a 10/10, a must try if you're a ranch lover! The Brussels sprouts were delish, best ones I've had so far, and you can never go wrong with a little bacon! Actually rate Thunderbird Pies a 4.5 Stars if only YELP would upgrade for people to do that... Of course while in Dallas I had to try a signature pie so I went with the Luka Brasi. Very tasty! COVID isn't without its silver-linings, like bringing good Detroit-style pizza to Dallas. Thunderbird Pies, the brain-child of the owner of Zoli's and Canne Rosso, is a takeout-only ghost kitchen. The only downside of this place is the convenience factor: operating hours (Sun - Thurs, from 3PM until they're sold out), and it's only available for pick-up from the Zoli's Addison location or for delivery within a small radius. This is a MINOR inconvenience for the deliciousness you get! If you're already a fan of Zoli's or Cane Rosso, then you already know that these guys have their pizza flavors down. Thunderbird Pies manages to successfully execute that amaaazing the cheesy, crispy edge that Detroit pies are known for. Knowing that we love the Zoli's pepperoni cups and the Honey Bastard pizza from Canne Rosso, we went with two of the more 'basic' choices: the Connie and the Honey Bastard. SO freaking good. For the price and quality thunderbird pies is a gem. Food was received in a timely manner and one of the two wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable about our questions. Loved the Brussels with sweety drop peppers and bacon. Shared a small pizza of the week and it was more than enough for two. Very rich and delicious! Love that BYOB is offered without a fee even though they sell alcoholic beverages. The ambiance is a bit lacking, the reason for 4 stars, due to it being sterile along with televisions and video games, but it's very kid friendly and affordable. Pay attention as some of the pizzas do not come with pizza sauce on them at all. I tried them a second time and purposely got a pizza with pizza sauce...why did the pizza have no sauce on it? A silver lining to coronavirus, the folks of Cane Rosso and Zoli's went on a limb and put in a serious effort to perfect Detroit style pizza. My husband LOVES this style, and he was ecstatic they finally opened up and finalized their menu. The website says you can pickup via Uber eats app from their location inside Zoli's, but we were hangry and couldn't figure it out. So, we just ordered for delivery. Garlic knots: just like Zoli's. A garlic butter lover's dream. Don't skip these if you're feeling indulgent and love garlic. Luka Brasi: the ricotta is the saving grace to this pizza. A perfect dollop accompanies each slice. I was a little taken aback by the cheddar, but I'm not mad. Connie: A solid choice for pepperoni fans. My husband devoured 3 slices. The crust is (in the most endearing and nicest way) like little caesars deep dish. Crust covered in cheese, crispy, and full of guilt and flavor. The dough between the crust and toppings has a very light and airy texture, that caught me off guard and was very spongey. Nom nom nom. I saw a post about Thunderbird Pies all week on my Insta. I've never had Detroit style pizza. I was extremely hangry around lunch time on Sunday. Even though my husband and I were all the way on the other side of town I put my foot down and forced him to make the drive. Thunderbird Pies is right next door to Cane Rosso, whose Honey Bastard Pizza is one of my faves. They also share the space with Cow Tipping Creamery. It was like a dream come true for my stomach. The location is cozy and fun (arcade machines). We ordered at the counter and our pies came out quickly. We ate every bite. The only reason I saved a slice was for my puppy. Pizza is her fave food on the planet. We recommend the borrowed Honey Bastard and the S&P 5000. Thunderbirds is located conveniently next to Cane Rosso- a Neopolitan styled pizza joint which I quite enjoy. The overall atmosphere was similar to a beefed up Cici's but with a rather disappointing execution. Overpriced and underwhelming. My friend and I ordered the Lil Bastards as an app and the Island Boi for our entree (we removed onions and peppers). The store has potential, but the food was simply not up to par. The Lil BAstards are similar to the brussels ofered at CAne Rosso (a sister company), but simply seemed to have little to no flavor. The pizza was overly sweet and the ham slices just felt awkward to consume. While I can appreciate the presentation of the pizza on a rack to let the grease drain, the pizza dough was very sweet and almost sugary. I don't see myself going back to Thunderbirds, but I would definitely recommend going to Cane Rosso next door! read more

My wife and I come here all the time for their gluten free pizza! If you're eating gluten free...try this place. We've never had deep dish gluten free pizza and quite honestly didn't know it was possible. Had an awesome dinner here tonight with friends. Spending the first eight years of my life in the Midwest gave me a fondness for Detroit style pizza. Over the years many have tried to replicate this pizza. Even a very serious little Roman fella on a scooter with a rapid pizza business tried to replicate the Detroit style pizza. Well, miles and years from the Midwest in a strip mall in East Dallas. I have finally found a slice of Midwestern Americana food heaven. Yes, yes, and yes! Now , it is a little bit confusing finding the entrance. There's this big sign for ice cream in the window. And since ice cream is totally an Americana food addiction it distracts one a tad bit from the pizza place and a rather busy restaurant next door also adds to the confusion. But you must preserve and press on. Because inside awaits a very nostalgic experience with one of the most favorite foods for millions of people. Even the decor is easy going and not pretentious at all. There's some old school game units in the front. And it's ambiance is laid back. The staff is excellent! This pizza definitely has some divine creatures singing it's praises. We got a large KISS and a small Blind Pig. The Kiss was delicious. The Blind Pig had this thousand island like sauce on it. And really after the Kiss with sausage nothing was going to match it. So, it probably is good and I am biased by the simple pizza. The dough is the stuff trade marks, secrete recipes , and vaults are made for. Because, baby, if they ever leave that recipe on the Internet. I' am be trying to replicate that pizza at home every week. And I hope that don't sell out for a big payday and start mass producing the dough or their pizzas. Because it's the entire Thunder Bird pies experience, people, not just the delicious food. They have adult beverages as well as one of those soda machines with Coke products, which is somewhat off script for the Midwesterners. My family in the Midwest like Pepsi. I don't understand why anyone likes Pepsi, but hey the majority of my life's been spent in Southern states where every thing soda is called coke. And for the most part it's a Coke a Cola is king kinda place. Anyway, kudos , on not having Pepsi products. And having root beer. The drinks selection is satisfactory for everyone in your party. We got Thunderbird Pies to-go for game day Sunday and it came in perfect condition! If you live a bit further, they have directions for the oven to re-heat it and takes about 10 minutes, so not bad. We got the large Drip Fan. My first experience of Detroit style pizza was in Austin and it was delicious! Thunderbird Pies doesn't fall too far behind but I thought the texture was more bread-like and just a bit too thick for me. However, the flavor was delicious and left me wanting to eat the whole thing basically, which would not be good for me. I ended up devouring 3. Delicious spot! If you have never had detroit style before this is as good as you can get while in Texas. I love this style of pizza because it is basically cheesy bread with yummy toppings. First time trying Detroit style pizza, and it was excellent! Comes in a rectangular pan, with the bottom of the pizza almost fried, and the bread part thick. I got the pesto garlic cheesy breadsticks and the large Rico suave pizza. The breadsticks were decent but quite small a portion for the price so I wouldn't recommend them. The pizza was really delicious and a perfect combination of mozzarella, parmesan, ricotta, caramelized onions, and basil. It's big enough for 3 hungry people. I'd recommend getting marinara on the side to dip. Lots of parking available and the restaurant interior is large and spacious. I'd love to come back and try a few more flavors! read more
