This place was very overpriced for the quality of food and drinks they had. I had the lychee martini which was okay for my liking, but not worth the $18 spent on it. I also got their burger ($19) and my boyfriend got the pork chop ($33). I liked the burger, but it was kinda dry and does not come with fries. The pork chop was the most disappointing because it was smaller than my burger, overly sweet, and did not come with rice or any sort of side. This place was not advertised as a tapas bar either. If it was I think I would have been more lighthearted with my experience, but even then I have never been to a tapas bar that was this pricey in LA. My entire table left still hungry. The drinks weren't anything special even though it is advertised that way they were all overly sweet. It was also odd to see a margarita served in a plastic kids cup like the ones from Islands. We were seated outside by a fire pit but there wasn't much room to eat on it. All of us had to eat on our laps which was also a bit strange. On the bright side, I really like the vibe of the place and the staff. Everyone was super nice and attentive. This place could be amazing really good spot to go to if they reevaluate their menu, prices, and advertising. read more

I travel to Los Angeles a lot for work and went here on a whim earlier this year and now it is hands-down my favorite place to visit while in town. The service, food, and cleanliness have been consistently solid. The last few times I've visited, I've had a server named Kelly, who is clearly a professional (attentive/ accommodating/ knowledgeable on both food and drink recommendations) and also super fun. Plus, she gave me tips on some other things to do when I'm in Los Angeles for work and it's been so sweet to have a local's recs. ;) I keep trying different menu items and they've been consistently excellent. My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Tiki Kai last night. I highly recommend visiting if you have the opportunity. Arrival: The staff at the host stand were warm and welcoming, even after being bombarded by people who didn't have a reservation demanding to get in. I was impressed with their composure having to deal with that. Plan ahead and make a resy! The decor and ambiance was spectacular and rivals Trader Sam's at Disney. Ownership spared no expense on every detail of the space and it really paid off. Walking in we were in awe, admiring it all throughout our time there. Food & Beverage: We tried four cocktails and all were really innovative and well made. Highly recommend the mai tai - they executed this classic cocktail perfectly. We had an app and dessert and both were delicious. Best crab rangoons we've ever had! Everything came out really fast even with the whole space being full. I was impressed! Service: Michael was our server and he was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. I appreciated the back story he told about a lot of the cocktails -- especially the Fisherman's Son, which made us even more excited to try them. All the staff that we interacted with had upbeat attitudes and positively contributed to the experience. Service and Vibes were a 5 Food was a 3 Kelly was our server and she was great! Granted we were her only table for the first hour or so, but she was attentive and super kind. We ordered the Pupu platter with firecracker shrimp, crab Rangoon and crispy rice. The description for the crab Rangoon needs to be updated on the menu. The make it seem like the pockets will be filled with only blue crab, but of course there a bunch of cream cheese. Maybe that's what makes it a Rangoon, but it doesn't hurt to add the cream cheese into the description. We also had the octopus which was absolutely delicious. Cucumber salad was great, but I was expecting thicker slices - like at Din Tai Fung and its actual cucumber shavings with seaweed- something I wouldn't pay more that $5 for normally. We also had the hamachi crudo which was half a little fishy half great! I could use more ponzu. Drinks we got 4. OG Mai Tai is a typical Mai tai- strong! Senorita Pico was chimoy forward for sure. I love chimoy but I was also expecting more spice. It comes in a cute glass tho. Fisherman's Son was the best drink of the night. Very banana cream pie- awesome flavors. Very different, but in a great way. And my last drink was the Devil of the Deep. Super tart. The idea of a Paloma meets a mule was intriguing, but regretted my decision. Overall, good times. Food was good but really nothing to come back for. The best drink was the Fisherman's Son. A good first visit. Not sure if we'll be back. I tried the Lychee Martini and Ube Your Thirst. (I got 2 Ubes because they were too good). For food, the Pupu platters were great for big groups. Catching wind that Tiki Kai recently opened, I knew I needed to make the trek and see what the hype was all about. The decor and ambience are very well done (two things that are important to me in any tiki bar). Their rum program is pretty decent and their cocktails are quite tasty and well balanced showcasing some classics and reimagined classics. Unfortunately the food is a la carte, pricy, and not very note worthy or filling. Additionally, the initial service from the hosts was not great. We made a reservation weeks in advance and were placed at the cramped bar despite requesting a table so we could comfortable enjoy a full meal. The hosts gave us the run around saying that all reservations get sat at the bar and walk-ins get tables (which makes zero sense), and that they'd tell us if something opened up which we could move to. Well, a decent chunk of time passed, and they never approached us despite tables opening up, so I asked the hosts if they could move us to a table that opened, to which the original host, and someone who seemed to be a manager, replied that the table was being held for a reservation - contrary to the information they had told us earlier. Clearly someone was misinformed, or blatantly lying, so we pressed until they made things right and sat us at a table to be served (while the staff member who seemed to be a manager was very obviously annoyed and upset with us for pressing the issue). Overall, as someone who loves tiki, I'd come back and just sit at the bar to have a cocktail (which is where they really shine), and forego the overpriced food and disappointing service. Knocking off 2 stars for the service was my knee jerk reaction, but I think the ambience and cocktails make up for it, so just 1 star knocked off for the unfortunate service. read more

This is a fun new spot. I will day I didn't have any food as I didn't know they had any gluten free options. It's not directly stated on the menu so if you want to know what you can have just be sure to ask the staff. The manager came by mid-drinks and realized I hadn't ordered anything and that is when I learned there are options. We had our infant with us, and the restaurant didn't have high chairs, or at least didn't have a high chair for us, which I thought was bizarre for a restaurant. We ordered two cocktails (senorita pico & devil of the deep) and they were awful - we had them sent back and chose to stick with water for the rest of our meal. Came here to celebrate my partner's bday and the ambiance was amazing, booked a reservation a month in advance with a note saying what we were celebrating. We got seated immediately in the walking area and were bumped a few times by people walking by. As far as tiki bars go, the food wasn't too heavy and was very tasty. This place just opened up so I am giving it some grace on a few points, but it's why I only marked it 4 stars instead of 5. For one, I was celebrating a special occasion and would've loved to see more of an acknowledgment done to honor my partner's birthday. We didn't get any special seating and the cake came without a candle and the staff didn't pay too much attention to the fact that we were there to celebrate a birthday. We didn't get much of a happy birthday, so I was a little disappointed by that. We were also rushed out before drinks were finished and the waiter said "you've been here for over an hour and half already" as we were ordering food and drinks the entire time. Secondly, half the drink menu is wine. There were hardly any tiki staples. So we ordered off the menu and asked for a painkiller, which was amazing and I highly recommend it. But I think a tiki menu should feature tiki drinks. Leave the wine for a winery or any other fancy bar. This place isn't that. Also, they really need more than just two mocktail / virgin drink options that are just a replica of each other, with a mango twist. Thirdly, I thoroughly enjoyed the food but would've appreciated maybe more of a quantity for what we're paying for. Pictures given below. Makes for a good girl dinner, but not the best if you have a big appetite. The food was tasty, though. So, we just had to order more dishes to get full. We celebrated our anniversary at Tiki Kai and had an incredible experience, one of those nights that just feels special from start to finish. When we arrived, I asked if it might be possible to sit indoors as I had accidentally put our reservation down for outdoor seating, and the host was super kind and accommodating. They let us know they had a last-minute opening and seated us inside in this amazing, oversized booth with a full view of the restaurant. It felt like such a special upgrade and really set the tone for the night. Like that scene in Goodfellas where they're led through and end up at the best table in the house, completely taken care of. And wow! the space itself is just so cool! It's one of those places where your brain just goes woooahhh and you don't even know where to look first. Lanterns, carved masks, tropical plants, layers of texture and warm light, every corner has something new to notice. It honestly felt so magical, like being dropped into another world. Next up was the food. We ordered the tiger shrimp scampi, short ribs, cucumber sunomono, a non-alcoholic "Ube Your Thirst" mocktail, and baked Alaska for dessert. Everything was flavorful and well-executed. Portions are a bit smaller than what you might expect and the prices are on the higher side but we left feeling satisfied, not overly full. The star of the show for me had to have been the baked Alaska and my fiancé really enjoyed the tiger shrimp. The service was incredibly thoughtful throughout the evening. Our waitress was so kind and attentive, and even surprised us by taking care of one of our dishes, which was such a generous and unexpected gesture. Somehow it didn't stop there, on our way out, we were buying a couple of glasses to commemorate our anniversary, and the bartender overheard and immediately offered us complimentary drinks just to celebrate us. We couldn't accept because of the alcohol, but the gesture alone meant so much. If I had one small suggestion, it would be to include a dedicated mocktail menu. As someone who doesn't drink, we both really appreciated that there are non-alcoholic options, but it was a little hard to keep track of which drinks could be made without alcohol. Having a clearly listed mocktail section would make it so much easier to explore and enjoy more of the drink menu. We loved the "Ube Your Thirst" mocktail it was super tasty and unique and made me wish there were more options to try because I would have happily tried several more. Overall, this place goes above and beyond not just in food and atmosphere, but in genuine hospitality. It really felt like everyone there wanted us to have a special night, and they absolutely delivered.
