It was surprisingly easy to make a reservation, even with a group of 8. It's not quite the same without the dim sum carts, but it gets the job done to satisfy your dim sum cravings! They have all the classics and have a pretty extensive menu so you should be able to find something for everyone. They give you a sheet and you mark whatever you want. They're most known for their baked BBQ buns, which are worth trying although not my favorite thing on the menu. Quality is pretty comparable to the Tim Ho Wan I went to back in California. Food came out quickly and they gave us plenty of time to dine in.

Great selection. Dim sum portions are quite large - four shumai but about twice the size of what I usually see, the lotus wrapped sticky rice was almost a meal in itself. Fast service. Excellent taste.

Tried Tim Ho Wan originally in Hong Kong and had it also in Las Vegas so this location was a must try for me since it was down the street from my hotel. The custard sesame balls are the most memorable and unique dim sum item for me here, I've never seen it offered at other restaurants. Other dishes were pretty standard, it was my first time having hot and sour soup with wontons but the wontons were thinly wrapped and were good bite sized. Wouldn't go out of my way to try this but recommend if you're already in the area within walking distance.

Tim Ho Wan is a HK-based dim sum chain, with this location located in the heart of Hell's Kitchen. There was no wait around Sunday morning. Pictures are worth a thousand words and I appreciate there's a menu with all the pictured dishes! You can tick off items from a form and hand it to your server. They also have some chef's specials and an assortment of teas, and other fruity and soft drinks. Service was also efficient and everything came out so quickly, with the exception of the steamed roll which was made to order. I enjoyed everything we ordered -- everything was fresh and tasty. I especially enjoyed the BBQ pork buns and would highly recommend trying! It was also nice to bop to Taylor Swift tunes the whole time we were there. I would come back for the convenience of location and clean environment (oh and TSwift!).

Came here to get a take out. Looks like this pan fried noodle with pork is the only fried noodle dish they have. When I got it, thought the size was about 1/2 of what I was expecting. The taste was ok, but the noodle was dried for sure, which is somewhat expected out of pan fried, but this dryness felt more like leftover dry as in old noodles? Anyway, I'm giving 3 stars as they do have other options that looked interesting. But I would skip pan fried noodles next time for sure.

Heard good things about this place so we gave it a try. They just opened for the day when we got there so we were seated right away. We tried a few dishes and everything was delicious. I esp like their shrimp shumai. The server was nice.

This was the perfect place to take my family that was visiting! The ambiance was very clean and cozy, and I felt like there was enough space in the restaurant to feel comfortable while eating (unlike some cramped places in the city). The dim sum was just okay, I felt as if the bbq pork buns and deep fried pork dumplings were too sweet and that the shrimp and chive dumpling skin could've been thicker. It's a decent option though that gets the job done. I also really liked our servers, they were so nice and helpful!

I've tried many dim sum places, I cannot say this is my favorite. Standard dim sum menu items, I liked most of the food that we ordered, but not the ribs, the taste was too "porky" and super oily. Service was good.

Having had a great experience at Tim Ho Wan in Singapore years ago, I had to try this location in Hell's Kitchen. While this experience was certainly not as good as the Singapore one all around, it was still pretty good. Steamed beef ball with bean curd skin ($6.95) - pretty tasty, good consistency, not too heavy, bean curd skin was thin but good Steamed pork dumplings with shrimp (siu mai) ($6.95) - delicious classic dim sum dish Steamed rice roll stuffed with shrimp and Chinese chives ($7.50) - not bad, but my big issue with this one was that there were barely any chives in there- literally just a couple super tiny pieces Pan fried noodles with BBQ pork ($11) - noodles were nicely crispy, but they were super stingy with the BBQ pork which made this not really worth the price for the portion size Deep fried eggplant with shrimp ($6.95) - decent, but kind of small portion size, fried shrimp on top was good though Fried silky milk sticks ($6.95) - a simple yet delicious dessert with a fried exterior and creamy milky interior Mango slush with coconut cream ($8.50) - a delicious drink with mango slush, coconut cream on top, mango pieces, and some sort of other fruity/icy cubes at the bottom Hong Kong style iced coffee milk tea ($7) - I'm not a coffee fan myself, but tried a sip of this and it was actually pretty good, kind of sweet and not too bitter at all The service speed was pretty quick and the staff were fairly friendly although not particularly attentive. The restaurant has some classic dim sum restaurant decor but with a slightly more modern vibe. They were playing a mix of upbeat American pop and Chinese pop music. Overall, I have definitely had better dim sum before, but this location of Tim Ho Wan is still quite good and certainly a good convenient option if you are also a dim sum fan and are in the Hell's Kitchen area.

Tasty, quick eats. Please get the Baked BBQ Pork Buns. I will come back here just for those. They were the best thing that we had here.

Tim Ho Wan is an excellent Dim Sum restaurant with multiple locations in NYC. I went to the one on 44th and 9th Avenue. My girlfriend and I ordered some amazing food!! Here is everything we got: Steamed Pork Dumplings with Shumai Steamed Dumplings with Shrimp and Chives Steamed Rice Roll with Minced Beef Pan Fried Noodles with BBQ Pork Honey Berry Hibiscus Tea - Sweet and taste berries Lava Custard Sesame Ball! The food was all incredible and stunning!

One of several Tim Ho Wans in the city - I believe the original is granted a michelin star but I don't think this one is the original. Located in Hell's kitchen it's right in the heart of times square/broadway so it might be nice to catch on a touristy trip or on a night out to a show. There is no or little to no wait. Service is reasonably quick even when busy. The menu is relatively small for dim sum - maybe about 20-30 items max. They also have a relatively large list of non-alcoholic beverages like honey iced tea which are nice (if a bit too sweet). I don't believe any of the items are to die for - the prices are $7+ for each dish. For New York Manhattan that is not too bad. I haven't had anything bad here. The congee is filling and a relatively large portion. There's also a dumplings in spicy sauce that are flavorful (perhaps a bit too flavorful) if small. The benefit of Tim Ho Wans (and their relatively small restaurant size and lack of the traditional travelling carts) is that they are quite clean and modern. Worth a visit if you're a big dim sum fan.

The service was good, the venue was bright, clean, and open. Plenty of seating available. That said, the food was just alright. We had the typical dim sum fare: har gow, siu mai, turnip cake, shrimp rice roll, baked char siu bao, etc. It wasn't bad, but it really wasn't standout either. We know there's a big kitchen that's cooking everything, but it all tasted kinda like it was all just reheated. I'd go if there was nowhere else that's free and I'm really craving dim sum, but this isn't my first choice.

Tim Ho Wan - Hell's Kitchen Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Tim Ho Wan - Hell's Kitchen

Does the hot and sour wanton soup contain chicken, beef, or pork?

    Usually pork...

    Is there any outdoor seating?

Not at the Hell's Kitchen location.

Will indoor seating at this location be available on 2/14?

Yes, we are planning to reopen our indoor dining from 2/13, while we will be closed on 2/12. NYS just announced yesterday that they've decided to make a change on the date, which was originally set on 2/14.

Is this place wheelchair accessible? My grandpa can't really take the stairs... can she still go?

Yes, but the bathroom is down the stairs and there is no elevator.

For some one who doesn't eat beef or pork is this a good place?

Probably not. A lot of dishes are pork base although you can find some chicken and veggie dishes.

Group size of 6-8 okay? What is the largest group size you can have at one table?

Yes. The tables are 2 and 4-tops so they can reconfigure to accommodate your party. However, I highly suggest using the yelp app to place your name on the wait list to save you time prior to your arrival at the restaurant.

    Are the cash only?

    No, they accept credit cards.

How long is the typical wait time on a Friday?

If you get there 30 minutes before opening not too bad, if you get there right when they open expect 20-30 minutes wait.

    Do they allow take out?

Update: They have started allowing take-out orders (started this week in December 2018).

    Do they take reservations?

Not that I saw.. but you can put your name in and they'll text you when your reservation is almost ready.

There was a wait list to get seated when we arrived but the process was simple and moved quickly, and service was prompt and food came out quickly. We ordered both the standard pork XLB and my faves, the pork and crab ones, as well as pan fried pork dumplings which I was surprised to discover were also full of soup, chicken corn dumplings, and two noodle dishes: rice cake with pork & mustard greens, and pan fried noodles with beef. Servers were conscientious about allergies and very specific about letting us know which items were which, but other than that were largely appropriately hands off. They did ask us, mid-meal, if it would be ok if a service dog were at the next table to ours, which I thought was courteous. (The service dog was adorable and well behaved.) All the food was fab, which we expected. It's nice to come in a group and be able to order more items for a greater variety. The rookies executed well (and thanked us for the instructions on how to eat XLB to avoid getting soup everywhere) and were pleasantly surprised by my longtime favorite, the rice cake and mustard greens. I'll need to remember that the pan fried pork dumplings also have soup, because I really liked the texture of them. Such good food, and as always, better shared with friends.

The eggplant was 10/10; the eggplant was cooked well, so tender but not soggy. The sauce was really good too such that it was sufficient spice but not flaming. Would recommended. I enjoyed the cucumber salad and tofu as well, but have had better. Seasoning and prep were good though -- although the tofu was cooked so tender (or maybe was silken tofu to begin with) that the whole table was struggling with carrying it from plate to mouth -- heh.
