Burgers are the thing to try here! The patty is just the right size and it's juicy. If you're up for a challenge I believe they have a monstrous burger called the big Timmy that looks totally AMAZIIIING! We had the Timmy o toole's (great if you like to prefer to stick to the classics, if it's not broke why fix it, right?) which had lettuce, tomato,pickle and onion (cheese options were offered,but declined) And the Streeterville (Swiss, onions and mushrooms) this pairs very nicely with the parm-garlic fries. Absolutely amazing. The onions and mushrooms along w the Swiss have such harmony in flavors that's it's just, ugh, indescribable. Not to mention the juiciness of the patty....YUM-MERSSSS Wings are good also, not amazing, but to be fair we did not had the crazy flavors they offered, just buffalo because we could not agree on anything else. The Parmesan garlic fries were def star and are a must if you like a kick in your meal. The flavors balance perfectly and do not overpower the potatoes. Its def a pub ambience. Could get a little loud, busy and it's pretty dark. But yeah, food is great and service is quick. Good place to watch the game and have a beer. Our waiter wasn't the friendliest, but he got the order right and that's really what matters at the end. Parking is an issue. You will park very far away. Do not drive here. I went at the suggestion of a friend. Got there about 6:30 pm to watch the 1st Round of the NFL Draft. I was seated quickly and served drinks almost soon after. So many food choices. I decided to try the Little Timmy Burger and they came with Irish nachos. The Irish "nachos" are so good!! i will probably always get them. they were so cheesy The burger was just ok. I probably should have order the appetizer combo or wings. I didn't hate it, I just probably wouldn't get it again. Great atmosphere. they seem to have a good happy hour and drink specials. The drinks were a bit pricey, but they were good. Their pretzel bites are a must if you ever go. I got one of their burgers. It was really big and good. I can't believe another year has come and gone. A crazy one indeed with the election leading the charge. So my BFF and another friend of his chose to return to Chicago to end 2016 and ring in the New Year. I met them at their hotel and we walked over to Timothy O'Toole's. I learned from both that there was a $15 charge to hang out at TOT for NYE. Friend #2 called the restaurant earlier in the day and was told that if they got there before 8:30 PM that they wouldn't have to pay the charge. But apparently that wasn't the case. There was a bit of back of forth between my friends and management but in the end we were charged. The $15 itself wasn't a big deal (as I learned that the Hyatt Regency on Wacker was charging $25 to hang out there and when the final CUBS game was being aired places were charging upwards of $100 or more to watch the game) but it would've been nice if they extended some kind of olive branch for misinforming Friend #2. Maybe charge only $10 for example. Had we known $15 would be charged regardless we wouldn't have rushed over to TOT before 8:30 and would've just hung out at their hotel bar a little longer. That aside I liked the food there. Our server came by multiple times throughout the evening to make sure we were okay with drinks. I wound up ordering a couple Moscow Mules which were very good. And I ordered 10 wings in a basket, half with garlic ginger, the other half with bourbon maple bbq. The latter definitely had a great flavor. I didn't taste the ginger so much in the garlic ginger but that could've been due to the Moscow Mule. My friends both ordered tacos and seemed to like their meals as well. Since we paid the cover charge we rung in the New Year at TOT. The charge included a small bottle of champagne and party hats. By 11pm they turned on the Chitown Rising event (explains the crowd I saw lined up along Wacker when I was heading to meet my friends). This place was fantastic! My husband we're hopping from shop to shop and were excited to see a pub along the way to get out of the heat. Not only was Timothy O'Toole's bar huge, they had a good beer selection, tons of tv's, bar games, and complimentary salty munchies at the bar. The bartender was great, wish I'd caught his name. Came here for a quick beer while waiting to check in to our hotel around the corner. Was greeted by "ehh" hostesses that were more interested in talking about the night before than seating us. We decided to just head to the bar which was a mistake. It was obviously full, as the World Cup was on but the bartenders had zero interest in getting us anything to drink. We headed back to the hostesses who were visibly irritated when we asked for a table. We were sat in a small room that was completely packed. Took 10-15 for our server to come get our order. Ordered two beers and the onion dip with chips. The chips and dip came before the beers which was fine. The dip was inedible. It was the texture of cottage cheese with what seemed to be some French fried onions folded in. It was terrible. Two stars for the cold beer and really nice server. We were in and out and made sure our $20 cover was worth her time. Hopefully we can try again soon and have a better time and food. read more

We had a company outing back in Jan. 2019 Our team messed up and got the dates wrong. We showed up with ~80 people and O'Toole's wasn't ready for us because we were a day early! Totally our fault, but boy did they step up. They started nicely shooing people out of "our" space. And they started cooking. And cooking. And cooking. Soon the food started flowing along with well-made cocktails and their large beer selection. The team at Timothy O'Toole's took what could have been a self inflicted disaster into a fine event and for that we will be forever grateful. GREAT WORK!!! read more

I strongly feel this place should be at least four stars. Personally when I see less than four stars on Yelp I avoid the location. Do not avoid this place. Come and judge for yourself. At least sit down for a beer. Reasonable prices for food and drinks especially for the city. Where they earn their 5 stars is service. Deron and Corey are extremely attentive and friendly. Warm smiles and all. In the past we have visited bars in other neighborhoods and I cant stress enough that the service here sets them apart. If you are looking for a chill time I would come early. Spot on! Large selection of beers and even better selection of Scotch and Whiskey that span all price points. Food is excellent and in large portions. Had the buffalo wings with buffalo sauce and it had just the right amount of kick without being too spicy, the tater tots are just as you'd expect...awesome. Dropped in for a bite to eat and catch a game. This review is for the horrible service and attitude by the hostess. We walked in and were greeted by a hostess who apparently doeant know she's in the service industry. We asked to be moved to a table over from one she sat us at and were told it was reserved for a group coming in. About 45 minutes later a young lady who appeared to be a personal friend of the hostess was seated at the table we asked to be seated at. For the next 2 hours the hostess came by and checked in on this young lady who from what I recall never ordered food or drinks. Rather she sat there and read a book. Luckily our waitress Chelle was amazing. She always had a smile, courteous and never let our glasses go empty. We dined here twice while visiting Chicago. The food was fantastic and our first waitress was amazing! So we decided to come back a second time... our second waitress, Bryce, was so rude from the start. My group of friends are all servers and completely understand being overwhelmed with tables. But anytime she came to the table she had an attitude and acted annoyed or didn't speak at all. (Flopping our checks down onto the table at the end for us to pay).... We were so baffled by the service we walked away with such a bad attitude and ruined our perception of the pub. Even though our first waitress was so kind, friendly and attentive. When you live in the city, you're always going to frequent the bar closest to your place whether it's a good bar or not, just out of convenience - but I'm happy to report Timmy's is a great one to live by! I've never eaten here, and have only been during late night, but the bar staff is generally fabulous (especially Keith and Jamie) and will remember and take great care of regulars. Beer list is extensive (plenty to satisfy IPA snobs and those of us with tastes on the other end of the spectrum), and lots of whiskeys to choose from, too. There are some other late night spots in Streeterville, but I can't think of a reason to go anywhere but here! read more

For my #200, I decided to finally review Timothy O'Toole's - and my first Man v. Food challenge. So please keep in mind that I'm not a bar person and didn't get anything alcoholic, and I'm not a sports fan so the 30-something high-def screens and their near-blinding light went rather unnoticed by me. But what I did notice was the Big Timmy Challenge. Challenge: Two 1/2-pound burger patties, cheddar, jack, mozzarella and swiss cheeses, bacon, onion straws, BBQ sauce, lettuce, tomato and red onion along with a big helping of fries & onion rings on the side Time Limit: None People: 1 Prize: Free T-Shirt Rules: No substitutions I guess if there's one thing I need to work on when it comes to food challenges, it's my hatred of certain foods that sadly will be there and won't go away. The hardest part of this challenge was eating the tomato. Really. I knew I had to get it out of the way as soon as my food arrived so I could enjoy the rest of the challenge. After hemming and hawing at the large menu, even my girlfriend Char O. eventually gave in and decided to take the challenge with me. We waited in anticipation, and eventually they brought out these large trays with our burger taking up one-third of the space, with each of the other thirds engulfed in a pile of french fries and onion rings. First down, the dreaded tomato - eyes closed and 30 seconds in, I felt the hardest part was over. Luckily, the buns on this burger were of relatively-normal size, but I know they can be tricky so I ate the dry bun tops by themselves along with the lettuce and a handful of fries in a pseudo-sandwich. If Man v. Food has taught me anything, it's that starches and carbohydrates will ruin you if you wait too long to deal with them. I'll let Char tell you her side of the story in her own review, but she handled this challenge like a champ. I went with the knife-and-fork approach to take down all of the meat and cheese. Handling the burger with my hands would have wasted too much time with napkins and/or licking fingers. The meat was very juicy and they did a good medium-rare. I liked the shoestring onions on the burger and the BBQ sauce was very tasty and went well with the giant strips of bacon. The french fries were seasoned nicely, but couldn't hold a candle to those onion rings. It's not often that you see onion rings with grill marks! The batter was light and seemed to be a beer-batter, too. The onions were done nicely and not too stringy or tough. At the end of the challenge, we were able to hold our empty plates in victory. I give Char credit for being the 1st to finish (yes, I got "beat by a girl") but I'm not a sprinting eater - I'm a marathon eater. Which is why I was able to come home and have dessert. Frankly, I was contemplating ordering the famous Irish Nachos while we were waiting for some drink refills. Speaking of which, I guess I should mention what I took note of at this place besides the burger challenge. The entryway is kind of cramped, in that people entering and exiting through the main hallway bump into each other constantly. Funny to watch if it's not you, but bumping into drunks on the way in and making that exit with 2-3 pounds of food in your belly are no laughing matter. The server was patient with us while my girl perused all the items on the menu before deciding to go with the challenge, but as soon as the food was ordered, we were not visited frequently. We both had empty glasses and had to flag her down while she was standing NEXT to our table with new patrons, and even then she only refilled mine. (My girl has horrible luck with servers giving refills sometimes.) I guess if we had alcohol instead of free-refill sodas, they might have cared more about our service. My last discussion point is the free T-shirts. They're a prize for winning the challenge, meaning you ate over 2 pounds of food successfully (and paid $20 for the privilege). And you're telling me the largest size of shirt you carry is 3XL? AND that you're OUT of that size? People - these are the shirts that you SELL on your website and in the restaurant, and you're telling me you don't keep things stocked and also don't feel like catering to the larger clientele of Chicago? I was almost okay with the situation and walking out with a free 2XL shirt that I'd never really be able to wear comfortably, until... Server: "We just have the 2XL, but don't worry because it runs big." It "runs big"? Well, I ALSO "run big", if you happen to have functioning eyeballs. And almost ALL shirts "run big" because they shrink when you wash them - even if it says "pre-shrunk". I was fine with you telling me you stock poorly and this is the best accommodation you can make for my prize. But don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. I'm fat, but I'm not an idiot. Came here for an Alumni for the USC marching band. We were celebrating the 40th anniversary of the first time the USC Band came to Notre Dame. We had a private room in the back, and had one bartender and one server just for our area...there may have been more servers but I only noticed ours. Taken directly from their website: "Timothy O'Toole's Pub Chicago was voted Best Bears Bar by the Chicago Reader and Best Place to Watch Bears Games by the Red Eye and Chicago Magazine." ...Today it was a Trojan bar. BOOYOW!!! Timothy O'Toole's has a great selection of beers, beer combinations (Snakebite, et. al.), and a full bar. We discovered they have this thing called "Holy Water". It's a mixture of 12 liquors and 3 juices. Essentially jungle juice on crack. My friends and I were already a few beers in when we ordered our first of many pitchers. The afternoon (yes...afternoon) went from a good time to a college $h!tshow. So this cocktail didn't taste like it had any alcohol...which is always dangerous. We ended up spilling a couple drinks and breaking a glass. Usually the barkeep assesses the situation and kicks people out at that point, but our server cleaned up the glass very quickly. She politely asked us to clear out while she cleaned, swept up, and didn't say a word. Maybe it was the fact that we were a few pitchers deep and wouldn't have cared if she sassed us. Anyway, this was a really fun experience. All the staff were really nice before and after we started drinking. I feel like my review is not really that credible since I drank so much there and didn't really get to take in everything. I will say that walking out of there and realizing how early it was to be drunk was.....nostalgic. read more

How have I NOT reviewed this place?! I started coming here when I was a mere 21 year old, experiencing the "wonderful" life as an employee in the service industry. We would come here after work, I would drink malt liquor (*shudder*), we would play some pool, perhaps some darts, and close the place down among friends and our favorite servers and bartenders. I can't tell you how many times I've tripped UP their stairs because I had, um, too much fun. I've had and been to countless parties in their back rooms, which are always a blast. Bonus - if you're a regular, they really, REALLY take care of you. Obviously, I'm no longer 21 and times have changed - I no longer prefer malt liquor, for one. Gross. But one thing hasn't changed - my love of O'Toole's. The servers are still fantastic, drinks are poured generously, and if you happen to go here at night, veteran employees may even remember you even after all the time you've been away... yikes. These days I am more likely to stop in for lunch, as I now work a couple blocks away... but I still love it. The food is pretty solid, service is friendly and quick, and sometimes it's just nice to step away from the hustle and bustle and the never-ending Northwestern construction, slip underground, and spend an hour enjoying yourself here. Bottom line - if you're looking for a fun night out where you're sure to find some fun non-douchebaggy people and great service, come here. If you work in the neighborhood and are looking for something different to eat for lunch - come here. Actually, just come here. You will have a good time, this I promise you. read more
