I was excited about this place trying something ney BUT!! As soon as I walkin the lady at the front or desk or whatever it's called told me the wait is about 25-35 minutes. She did not take my order instead sg forested me to a bank of kiosks to order my food. I asked her about parking and she was clueless. She had no idea ifthr parking on the other side of the wall of the building was for the restaurant or not. After trying to figure out the kidok ordering process on the greasy screen , i finally got a reciept that said my food would be ready in 10 minutes. I oder the combo with short ribs , bbq chicken and chick cutlet or something. I put in sub short rib which everywhere else in the wotld you would think that mean substitute in the short rib but at Tims Hawaii in Davis CA, it means take out thre short rib and the chef puts in whatever they FEEL like. And I wanted it spicy So ended up with 2 types of chicken and 1 beef. Way too much food that was salty and over cooked. The fried chicken cutlet was just ok but not rememberable. And their were out of volcano sauce which I suppose is why no flavor or spiice. Not worth it to my just to be told what their capabilities are snd aren't and a miatched order. I had the chicken katsu here and subbed the macaroni salad for vegetables. The chicken was very crispy and when it was served you can tell they made it fresh from the steam. The portions are very big and definitely a bang for your buck. Service was great, the individual working that day checked up on us and brought us water as she saw our cups getting less full. Everything is awesome, especially their BBQ chicken. Very savory, sweet, and a perfect balance of smoky crispy meat on the outside, and super chewy and tender on the inside. Gorgeous soft chewy rice. Very high quality. A plate is very full, and I cannot be happier with the enormous portion and the price. Friendly staff too. One of the stores has ramen, it was also surprisingly good. There were tables to dine outside. Wooden tables with cute lightbulbs at night. During the day, I enjoy fresh air with delicious food. I highly recommend this place for students (like me) and family time! read more

Short version: Food and service were excellent, nothing bad I can say about Tim's. Long version: I was on my way through downtown Davis, coming from campus, looking to hit one of the Mexican spots a bit out of the way. En route, I passed by Tim's, unaware that it had opened at last. The signs for their soft opening (turns out it was only the second day of operation) advertised a buy one get one deal on the entire menu during that initial phase of their operation. I cannot resist a deal, so my lunch plans changed. It took me a minute to decide, as there was a solid variety of options, but I eventually settled upon the BBQ mix with Katsu subbing in for the short ribs, and for my second entree of equal or lesser value (per the deal) I decided to try the fish and chips on a whim. Despite the place being a bit busy relative to the location's size, the food came out quick and was obviously freshly prepared. Everything I ordered turned out great and I would certainly be willing to eat both entrees again. Since arbitrary descriptions won't help, I'll say that generally the quality and depth of flavor seemed a bit above what you'd get from Ohana over in U-mall, though I do think you may spend a slight bit more in turn when there isn't a promo going. I'd also like to note that since the location is fairly small, there's only really one person staffing the front of house. Despite this and in light of the relatively busy restaurant (and with special consideration given to it only being her second day), Ivanti was excellent in handling orders, answering customer questions, ensuring food got from the kitchen to the customers in a timely manner, and generally taking care of business with a smile. Having worked service positions in the past myself and knowing there can be a lot to stay on top of, I felt her enthusiastic work deserved a shout out, as she seems like a major asset to Tim's in terms of customer experience. read more

Food quality and friendly service are the highlights of this small independent Hawaiian food place. The barbecue chicken was hot and was resting on fresh shredded cabbage along with fresh rice and a very good mac salad. Surprised to find fish and chips on the menu but not surprised to find out that the fish was very high-quality, cooked perfectly and the fries were hot and fresh. The BBQ Mix plate was generous and its portions as well as my chicken plate. Overall, a very nice food option when visiting Davis. read more

Came here with my Aunt for lunch. I originally wanted to go to an Irish pub in the area for fish and chips, but it was closed and I found this place on yelp. I got the seafood bbq combo with short rib, fried fish and coconut shrimp. I also got one spam musubi and a soda. We sat outside and waited for our food. Our entrees came first and I didn't get my spam musubi for a while so my Aunt went back inside to ask for it. They had forgotten, but came out a few minutes later with it and apologized which was fine. I loved their fatty short rib and coconut shrimp, those were probably my favs. The macaroni salad was creamy and delicious as well. The rice wasn't too wet or sticky and the fish had a very nice panko coating that I enjoyed. It also came with tartar sauce that went very well with the shrimp and fish. The spam musubi was very good as well, the spam was crispy and everything held together very well. This turned out to be a great place for some Hawaiian food. read more

I ordered $9 today's special and my husband got $15.45 barbecue meat mix dish. Both were great. Mine was chicken katsu with soft drink, their Wednesday's special and cost only $9. It had almost two scoops of rice and one full scoop of macaroni salad with two full layers of chicken katsu. The breaded katsu was crispy and tasted great. Its sauce tasted a bit too sweet, but it was fine. My husband's barbecue mixed meat with pork, beef ribs, teriyaki taste chicken was a good portion and tasted all great. No soft drink included as it was one of the regular menu items. We had fish and chips here last time for $12 something and it was not the best but was good. Then, if you want to pay with cash - what?!?! what is that?!?! you can't. Bottom line is DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME on an establishment that devalues you as a customer and human and only wants your money with as little effort as possible! Pass it on. Not a clean restaurant. They don't answer their phone. Front counter person does not greet nor explain everything you do there is self-service. I sat waiting for her to come and she never did. when she called or orders, she was 3 feet away and did not bring them to the table. We were a group of five and might as well been invisible. To top it off, they autocharge 15% tip onto your bill unless you catch it and change it. They do zero customer service and a tip is not deserving but I added a few dollars anyhow. Tim's is now back open after being closed due to COVID19! By far the best hawaiian BBQ in Davis. My wife and I shared one BBQ chicken and one chicken katsu plate. Portions are large and we will have some leftovers for lunch tomorrow. We were able to change the sides by substituting vegetables instead of rice for one plate (I believe you can also sub the sides for fries). The BBQ chicken has a nice smoked flavor to it, and the chicken katsu is very crispy and not too greasy (cleaner and tastier than ohana's). My only complaint is that after taking the order home I realized there was no katsu sauce (I am not sure if I was supposed to ask for it or something, I assumed it would come with the order). Regardless, I will be back soon! The guy at counter told me they just reopened today after being closed for over 2 months. I was worried they may have closed for good, and I imagine it could be hard for a new business like this to suddenly take a hit in demand as students left Davis. DO NOT use the self serve Muncho kiosk as pictured, and if you do, be warned. Use the kiosk and you'll be charged extra fees that aren't disclosed, as opposed to ordering with the staff. The staff says that it's for customers' convenience but that makes zero sense. This restaurant has a self-serve ordering option that is presented alongside an in-person option. The former has a fee and the latter DOESN'T. THERE IS NO WAY FOR A KIOSK CUSTOMER TO KNOW THAT! I'm not talking about the tip option at the kiosk; there is a service fee (or maybe Muncho platform fee?) the owner decided to pass on that isn't broken out. When you check out, the "taxes and fees" line item worked out to be another 5.8% on top of the city sales tax (my order was $8.25 + 8.25% Davis tax = $8.93, which is what the staff confirmed I would've paid had I ordered in person, and is the amount shown on their internal receipt. I was charged $9.41. Looks like Muncho takes a cut that the restaurant makes patrons pay, when a normal business would eat that as an operating cost). The kiosk didn't break out the fee (nor did I get texted a receipt) and I just paid it thinking it's something assessed for all. Afterwards, I found out that is definitely was not; someone else who paid at the cashier DID NOT get this fee assessed. The owner likely is trying to have their cake and eat it too by hiring less AND charging you for the privilege of using their kiosk, as opposed to passing on the costs equitablely to all patrons. It's one thing if one orders on a platform and then picks up the order. It's entirely another if they price discriminate IN STORE based on method of ordering. And if you are going to do it, don't be underhanded. Put a clear sign explaining what you're doing, how much the fee is, and don't try to sneak one up from under people. Not seeing a sign, I thought that there are two equal ordering options; these are NOT and they do a good job obfuscating. Food was decent. Neutral gender bathroom. read more

LO for dinner. So value for the money is undeniable!!! Overall, everyone loved their dishes. Only knock is the bbq sauce was overpowering - very sweet and salty! Every bit of the bbq beef or bbq pork required a heaping spoonful of rice to try and help balance out that sauce. That's why I couldn't give this place a 5 star rating. I wanted to because the value for $ is a home run! And everyone else really enjoyed their dishes - but the bbq beef and pork forced my hand in delivering the 4 stars. I love Hawaiian food... but my wife isn't big on it, but she was working an overnight shift, so I took the opportunity to try some Tim's. When I got my food (it was delivered) I was pretty excited. I opened up my first order, a chicken plate, which was for my kids to split. Everything looked good. Chicken was fine, maybe a little salty, but it was fine. The macaroni salad was fine as well. My main complaint was about my combo plate, beef and pork, being burnt. Like some pieces were carbon burnt. The sugars in the marinade had been charred beyond being edible burnt. I ate about half of each of the meats and put the rest in the garbage (and I absolutely hate throwing things away). I'm not sure what happened here as there are quite a few great reviews. I'd love to support a small business instead of a chain, but half of my food being inedible would make coming back here difficult.
