Terrible service! Laid down dirty cup but didn't say one word to me

Well I've been here for 10 minutes no acknowledgment. Waitresses look at me and don't even address me. One waitress even set a dirty cup on the table where I finally sat and helped another table grabbed the cup and didn't even say anything. A family just came in were helped and I had to ask her if anyone was going to help me. She told me one moment then ran away and came back to service that family. This is crazy in 2026.

Where to begin with Tio Carlos. It started off as a quick decision. I expected almost nothing but my group and I desired cheap Mexican food. The energy in there was superb. Live music and possibly Carlos himself hanging around the restaurant. I was excited for my food to say the least. The beef quesadillas I had were easily the best I've ever had from any restaurant. This is my first ever yelp review. Usually people are whining about something nobody cares about, but I was compelled to write today because of how perfect this experience was.

It's been 22 years since my first trip to Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico where I learned Spanish and discovered Chili Rellenos. I loved them immediately. Ever since in my travels throughout the US I have sought a perfect chili relleno. My serveR recommended the chicken. It was stunning. I actually tell you better than my first those long 22 years ago! I loved it. Kudos to the chef. I startedd with their chicken tortilla soup. Look at those chunks of chicken. And so juicy. So tender. As a big kid I asked for horchata. Maybe a bit to much cinnamon on top, but gosh to feel over 2decades younger, what a great experience.

This place seems old but the food is great. We went inside and I almost had to ask my husband to just forget about it as there's not much people inside but good thing we stayed as we got a very good meal. My sister in law got a fajita beef and she loved it. She said the meat is to tender and good. I got enchiladas and the cheese, chicken and brisket are a must to try. The best that they have is the sandwich lomito argentino. It's Large Argentine style sandwich filled with grilled steak, fried eggs, jack cheese, ham , lettuce, tomatoes, and salsa rosa, served with French fries. My husband loved it so much that he had to order again in our 2nd visit here. You've got to visit this surprisingly hole in wall good place for Tex max food. By the way I wouldn't pass up the plantains which is always my favorite thing to order in any restaurant that has that in their menu ;)

I have been coming here for a few years now and have always had a very good experience every time. Parking is always good and available, even when they are busy. The restaurant itself is always clean and orderly. And the staff is always friendly and efficient. My favorite go-tos are the Queso Blanco and the Chicken Fajitas. The Queso is second to none. The Chicken Fajitas always have a nice wood grilled flavor to them that is sure to please you! A few times I have made it to dessert, but not very often. My favorite dessert herebis the churros. They are delicious in their own right, but they also give you different dipping sauces like chocolate, caramel, or even a vanilla cream. They are served hot and fresh!

We had seen the place on Yelp and planned to grab something quick to go, but it turned into a great stop. The location is fantastic and convenient near the airport. The hostess was welcoming right away and directed us to the bar so we could place a quick to-go order. At the bar, the bartender gave excellent service and convinced us to try a couple of tacos along with the yuca fries and plantains we originally planned to order--and I'm glad he did. The Tacos Al Carbón were outstanding: grilled fajita beef with sautéed poblano and onion on flour tortillas topped with pico de gallo and guacamole. The steak was tender and full of flavor. The beans and rice were just right, and the plantains with coconut sauce were a perfect addition. The bartender also recommended a Stone Delicious IPA, which made the short wait enjoyable. We grabbed a Tamarindo agua fresca and bolitas de yuca for the road--light, flavorful, and perfect for the drive. Great food, great service, and a great find near the airport. Definitely worth stopping in.

A Home-Cooked Feel with a Few Rough Edges…read more My first visit to Dona Maria started on a positive note with a warm, friendly greeting that made me feel welcome right away. I ordered the Calisticas with chicken and the Pernil (braised pork). The crispy plantains were one of the highlights of the meal, providing a nice texture and crunch. The pork was tender and juicy, although I unexpectedly encountered a large bone joint in one portion. The chicken cups were less successful. They were noticeably oily and lacked the juicy, flavorful bite I was expecting. The standout flavor of the meal was actually the chimichurri sauce. It added brightness and depth, and I found myself pouring it over nearly everything on the plate. Overall, the experience felt very much like eating at a friend's home--comforting, unpretentious, and made with care. That home-style atmosphere extended to the food preparation as well, which appeared informal (I did see prep without gloves) and may not appeal to guests who expect a more polished restaurant experience. While there were some enjoyable elements, particularly the hospitality, plantains, pork, and chimichurri, the execution of several dishes was inconsistent. A decent meal with a welcoming spirit, but not one that fully lived up to its potential.

The restaurant is very small and has only one toilet in the women's restroom and one in the men's, which is especially inconvenient when serving large parties. The fried bananas were flavorless, drinks do not come with refills, and they don't have cups with lids for children to help prevent accidental spills. The chicken lasagna from the salad bar was good, and the fresh limeade was definitely a highlight. At $40 per person, it is about $10-$15 cheaper than some competitors, but the lower price was reflected in the overall experience. I would rather spend a little more elsewhere for better accommodations and a more enjoyable group dining experience.

My friend suggested splitting a dish or two so we split the pupusas - there is an El Salvadoran restaurant I used to live by that does great pupusas so I was curious to compare. These were very good, and for $14, they could certainly be a meal. My friend got the tropical salad with shrimp and I got the Carne Asada. The chimichurri sauce was delicious and so was the steak. I'm not a huge fan of beans so I didn't eat those. Even though I did like the pupusas, I would say the steak was the star of the meal for me. For dessert, I ordered the Quatro Leches cake because I'm a huge fan of Tres Leches. This was good, but too sweet, my friend pointed out that there was some sort of frosting or something on top - maybe the fourth leche? - which made it sweeter. There were also pecans on top, which was interesting. I'm not sure I would order this dessert again here. I also got some sort of tropical drink, which was really good and my friend got the house Mojito, which at $12 is nicely priced I feel like. Overall, this place was pretty good and I would come back here, my friend did mention it's a chain, but I think it only has a few locations, including Dallas. Be aware that the entrance is on the opposite side of the road, and they also have a pretty nice patio, which is where we sat for dinner - a treat for me to dine outside in 65° weather in February, since I live in Michigan!
