I hate to give such a low rating to a small donut shop like this one, especially only after ordering one thing, but there were multiple BEES in side the donut case!!!!!!! I did not enjoy eating donuts that bees have touched and the employee didn't do much to get rid of them either (not that i would have either cause i'm terrified of them). Anyways, I ordered a dozen donut holes and they were ok. They seemed like they've been left out for a while so they weren't hot and fresh like I would have liked. This place is legendary though, extremely unassuming. It may even feel a bit sketchy but get don't be discourage by it's bleak storefront because it is the hidden treasure of the neighborhood. A family owned donut shop that makes all their donuts from scratch in-house, including their croissants. Butter, flaky and so fresh. We always get the egg, ham, cheese breakfast sandwich and it's delicious! Super cheap. 90c donuts! Fun ones too with fruity pebbles or bacon on top. Cash is preferred, there's a nominal charge for using credit card. And ok yea, sometimes you see the occasional fly zipping around the joint, but whatever. This was my first visit and my friend wanted to come by specifically for cronuts. The service was great! Prices were decent for the pink donut box shop, averaging around $1.10-$1.15 per donut, with a slightly higher price on cronuts and other specialty donuts, such as cinnamon rolls or apple fritters (likely due to the larger size). This was my first cronut and I have not tried the OG Dominique Ansel Bakery so I don't have a comparator. Personally, I don't really think I'm a cronut fan. I think I gravitate towards the traditional and I either want a croissant or a donut. I tried the cinnamon crumb and the glazed. The cinnamon crumb was ok, a little greasy, to my surprise. The glaze was too sweet for my preference. I was most excited about having a sugar twist donut, but it was extremely dry and overcooked, so I was quite disappointed. I only ate about 1/4 of it since it was so overdone, as I didn't want to waste my calories! There's a parking lot where TK Donuts is located with a couple of other quick grab-and-go businesses so parking should be fairly easy. Outstanding place to eat! It doesn't matter whether you're getting donuts, sandwiches, coffee, or another pastry, this place is amazing! My wife and I have been going here for about 3 years and it only gets better each time we go! They recently started making their own cinnamon rolls with homemade cream cheese.....they are ridiculously good! I bought three the first time I had one because it's that good! WOW their donuts are fresh, breakfast sandwiches are yummy, but OH MY GOSH the cinnamon rolls (just the right amount of cream cheese) are out of this world. Went in around 9am there was a large selection and more even came out of the kitchen while I was at the counter. First time here so I tried a simple yeast glazed and it was very airy. The glaze was good with the right amount on it. I also tried a yeast doughnut that was glazed but instead of being filled it was cut in half and a sugar cream and sliced strawberries were inside. I wasn't a huge fan of the sugar cream however the strawberries were fresh and the dough was cooked perfectly. One of the better doughnut shops I have been to in SD. Only downside is that smoke shop next door and the old tobacco smell looming in the air. read more

This is a review that was long overdue. Apple fritters are my favorite donuts and I grew up eating these, so these get automatic nostalgia points. When I came to San Diego, my buddy recommended them claiming they are the best. The apple fritters here are HUGE (as big as my face), with lots of apple and cinnamon. They have this nice crunchy outside texture as it should but the inside is doughy and delicious. I always get a half dozen when I fly back to San Francisco because I can't find a place that has as good an Apple Fritter as TK. Their Cream Cheese Croissants are also humungous and I usually split it into 2 meals so I don't feel like a fat ass. The cream cheese is sweet, so it provides a good contrast to the buttery croissant. This is my typical breakfast when I fly out back to SF/ I also enjoy the chocolate dipped custard donut, which is a bit different. Instead of it being custard filled, it is split in half and the custard is spread in between... making a custardy chocolate sandwich. It might be too sweet for some people, but I love vanilla custard! read more

When I moved into the neighborhood, my next door neighbor suggested that I go check out TK Donuts. That was the year 2000. Been going there ever since and there is no stopping now. I love the nostalgia I feel as soon as I walk in through the door. The owners always greet you with a big smile and are truly down right neighborly. My co-workers are always bugging me to stop at TK's for at least two dozen donuts, though we are only sixteen people in our group. What does that tell you? The Bear Claws, Apple Fritters, and the plain glazed donuts are our favorites. The Bear Claws are always stuffed with apple filling, and the Apple Fritters are a big hit at the office Can't help myself in going to TK's every time I use the BOFA ATM at the strip mall. Even though my colleagues keep complaining about their weight problems, be assured that both boxes of donuts are gone in 15 minutes. Cinnamon rolls are my drug of choice and I can't seem to kick this evil addiction. There it goes again; my diabetes is acting up just talking about this piece of heaven on earth. Doughnut holes! i love so many of the tasty morning offerings, but i am pretty sure this place (and I) could survive solely on they light, fluffy, glazed, raised doughnut holes. they are real doughnuts holes, punched from the inside of the day's ringed batches. Love this, but it then does limit the number available so you must arrive early to get all you want. Even my coworkers on Weight Watchers love these ("worth the points") and their bite-sized goodness. I have on occasion order dozens of these ahead of time and the kind owners have obliged me to whip up a special large batch. Other goodness: apple fritters, custard-filled chocolate-dipped, raspberry jellies, lemon filled. I don't care too much for the cake variety, but my friends who like that style tell me these are on par. My only "skip" would be the cinnamon rolls; wrong dough, no icing, bit dry. Otherwise everything to love at this place. Old men hanging out and drinking a cheap cup of joe at the vintage tables. The place closes whenever they run out of food. They know how much they need to make and sell each day and if you're lucky you'll get you some. read more

After living across the street for over a year I can honestly say this has become a regular stop for me. I leave for work at 5 am and anytime there's a dollar in my pocket I contemplate walking in for something to munch on. The Chocolate Peanut Donuts are BOMB as are the Cinnamon Rolls and you can never go wrong with some Donut Holes. I have yet to have a bad donut from here but I've come in later in the day a few times and its been slim pickings. They also only take cash which sucks, I can't tell you how many times I've walked up only to reach in my wallet and notice I only had my card. That being said, I don't think I'll ever buy 7-11 donuts again with this place just a walk across the street. Its still a lil hole in the wall but the owners are friendly the prices are low and their open at the crack of dawn. It may not look like much but the donuts are well worth the walk in. read more
