Date of visit 2/21/24 at 7:45pm The STAFF we encountered were so nice. The Hostess was very sweet and had us sat within 5-7 mins without a reservation. Our server Clint is super personable and we had some nice conversation with him. The restaurant has a good vibe with picnic type tables and benches. There are tv's on the walls and a bar with about 12 seats. Clint recommended the bacon flight telling us it's some of the best bacon he's ever tasted. Well I think he oversold it. You get three slabs of bacon about a quarter inch think. One is a plain applewood smoke, one has a sweet pecan glaze on it and the last has jalapeños on it. They were good not great or warranting the $19 price tag. They needed to be cooked longer and were fatty. It's an appetizer but it was the last item to arrive to the table. My son was craving gumbo on a cold day. He added the sausage for an additional $2.50. There were hardly any ingredients his seafood gumbo. I saw two shrimp. Just a bit of rice. I make gumbo and have high expectations. This fell flat. Save your $14.50. My husband and I shared the signature boil. For $38 you get half a pound of snow crab and half a pound of shrimp, two small pieces of corn on the cob, four red potatoes and some onions. The flavor was good...spicy for me. My lips were tingling. The shrimp were good. The crab was dry. Both were lukewarm. The rest of the ingredients were fine. The corn was a bit too spicy to me with the seasoning on it. I've been to several restaurants that serve boiled seafood. This one was ok. Nothing about it stood out. For $121.48 (including 2 beers and 2 soft drinks) I feel like we left wanting more. read more

THE BIG: Located in the Lamar Union Plaza at the end of the road. If you still can't find it, it's right in front of Alamo Drafthouse. There are three parking lots, so plenty of parking around. Big open outdoor area with tall ceilings for the inside. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here during a weekday night and they have half off wines! We didn't grab a bottle but definitely something to keep your eyes peeled. We sat ourselves and ordered the gumbo, atomic shrimp, seafood salad and deviled eggs. To be honest, the salad was the star of the show. We are also on a low carb kick and needed to make sure we kept on our diet. I really enjoyed the lunch we had here with family. The shrimp cocktail was delish, although I wasn't expecting it to be mixed into the sauce and so heavy on horseradish but I still liked it! You can tell the shrimp are high quality because they have that meaty snap. Yum. My husband's seafood boil was also very good, and huge for the price! My daughter's pork chop was super thick cut and very well cooked and I would come back again just for that meal. The one disappointment was the deviled eggs. They were piled high with filling which to me is too much filling, but the filling didn't have any taste. It desperately needed some mustard or other vinegar. The best oyster happy hour deal we've seen in Austin thus far! This place is in South Lamar and had the most epic holiday decorations. The whole place was covered with decor and it was like a winter wonderland *dream*. So aesthetic and picture-esque. The deals were too good, we ordered: - 3 dozen oysters (THEY WERE SO CHEAP AND BIG AND DELICIOUS) - Mussels - Hush Puppies - Mac and Cheese - Shrimp Cocktail (ratio of sauce to shrimp was very overwhelming, way too drenched in sauce) - House Wine - Old Fashioned - Chili Mule I'd say happy hour is probably the best time to visit TLC since you get more bang for your buck. Huge spot and they have lots of outdoor seating for nice weather days. Plenty of parking around so you don't have to worry about that. Service was okay, we often had to flag someone down to put in orders for food within the happy hour window even though the place overall was not that busy and it seemed to have a lot of staff working. We hosted a big birthday party at TLC and could not have asked for a better experience! We came in prior to the event and spoke with Bria, one of the managers, who was not only accommodating, but was excited to help us make it a great success. They reserved the patio for us and provided tables for the gifts and our cake - above and beyond our expectations. It was a Monday, and they were down two servers, but Angel, assigned to our party, was grace in action. Kat the bartender was a huge help as well. Team effort! Everyone enjoyed the food and drink. The restaurant was still decorated for Christmas and it made for a magical atmosphere for the party. We appreciate TLC for making this a truly memorable event. Everyone working got a slice of cake! Came here to watch the game and had high hopes for this place! Let me start off by saying the staff was awesome, the ambiance was cute and family friendly, and the food came out pretty quick. But unfortunately, my family of four did not like the food. All but one item was way too salty. We got: -hush puppies (this was good) -calamari (salty) -Mac n cheese -country fried steak rib eye (salty) -crab boil for 2 (seasoning was salty) -side of rice (salty) -chili (salty) -kids chicken strips and fries (my son ate one chicken strip and said it wasn't very good) My family loves seafood and can either clean off our plates or take leftovers home. But instead left a full plate of calamari (only ate 3 pieces) and left half servings of chili, Mac n cheese, and chicken strips w/fries. The menu has a lot of great items and it was hard to choose what to get bc they all looked good. That said, we'd try this place one more time in hopes that it was an off night for the chef. They have long picnic tables with their own speakers and misters at each table. The misters didn't need to be on today. It was gorgeous weather. Music playing was awesome. I was really getting into it. A little bit of everything. Decided on the crab and shrimp scramble. The menu doesn't give a description of any kind. But I'm not a picky eater. Just gives that added surprise when the food comes. When the food did come, I was pretty surprised how much food it was. I had the scrambled eggs, hash, and a piece of toast. Scrambled eggs were really good. Light and fluffy and moist. Big chunks of shrimp and the crab just fell apart when I went to pick it up with my fork. Excellent with the added slices of avocado on top. The hash was good too. Red onions and red peppers. Chopped in small cubes sizes. Very good. The multigrain toast. I had asked about the toast. It was spicy. I was curious what/how it was made. The server didn't really know. But the toast had like red pepper flakes. Maybe it was a mistake, but whatever it was, it was good. Spicy multigrain toast. Loved it. Also we shared a side of fried okra. Never had okra before, and I have to say, with some ranch, it's pretty good. The fried part is light and not heavy at all. Really good. We had several servers check in on us throughout our meal. Very friendly. The other server we had, Raphael, was very nice and funny. Our experience here was really uneven. The food was mostly good and came out quickly except for the brownie which seemed to take 15-20 minutes. Mac and cheese was fantastic but the hush puppies were literally raw in the middle (all six of them). My catfish basket was really tasty and the fries were awesome. The brownie was on the cake-y side and since the kitchen was out of vanilla ice cream, they gave us chocolate (they did ask first to make sure we were okay with it) and it didn't really work with the brownie. Service needs some work. Our server was very nice but not attentive at all. He walked by our table multiple times and didn't notice we were done eating, didn't notice we were waiting to be offered dessert (we had to flag him down finally) and he still didn't notice when we stacked our dishes in the center of the table in a nonverbal request for the check. We did have to ask for the check eventually. It's cute inside and you'd think the cocktails on tap would make for quick service but nope... those took a long time also. read more

Celebrated my sister and nieces birthday last night at TLC. What a great first experience. Food was fantastic and Juliet our server was fabulous. The Mac and Cheese (a side) is SO good. It's the kind of good that makes it criminal they don't have a Mac and cheese burger. My actual burger (the Texan) was pretty good, but lacked flavor. TLC offers great quality seafood in the ATX area. I'd recommend the oysters and the DKR. I also enjoyed the online ordering system using Toast since it allowed my friend and I to easily separate the check. If you don't want to order online, don't worry, you can also order from the waiter. I did find a couple of drawbacks. - Portion sizes are smaller than expected for the price that is charged. The photos are also misleading and make it seem like the entrees are way bigger than the sandwich I received. - We received the entrees before the oysters which are super odd. My boyfriend and I stopped in for lunch today -- based on the reviews and videos we always see from Austin "influencers", we thought this would be pretty solid. Service was super friendly but the food was pretty awful. We ordered the following: Boozy dole whip -- very boozy, not bad $1 gulf oysters -- I was a little apprehensive of $1 gulf oysters, especially in Austin, and we should have just skipped these. They were large but were very cloudy looking (indicator of non-fresh oysters). They also stuck to the shells and we're not clean. There were bits of shell and dirt in all the oysters. Fries -- Can't mess up fries right? Wrong. These fries were so dry and they seemed almost old and stale. Lemon garlic mussels -- I thought the sauce wasn't too bad and had some potential, but it was very salty. The mussels themselves were okay, but very gritty. My favorite part of this meal was the bread that came with. We did speak with a manager to point out the oysters. We didn't want to get them replaced and he comped the dole whip which was nice of him. I feel like the food quality we had was drastically different from what the "influencers" post from here. I was leery of the andouille in it but it all blended together well. A bit of spice but not too much. The actual boil was kind of disappointing. Shrimp was a bit over cooked. I didn't realize the sauce was actually a side of sauce versus like a whole bag of sauce with the shrimp. Came here for happy hour (3pm-5:30pm on weekdays), and it was a fantastic time here! Gulf oysters are $1 each and are such a steal! The oysters are delicious and great quality. Other happy hour menu items include drink specials ($5-$7) and other appetizers/shareables, including lemon garlic mussels and mac n cheese. Only complaint was that the mac n cheese was on the saltier side, and a bit too one-dimensional for my liking. The best part is that you can order and pay by the QR code available at each table, which is seat-yourself style. Order as much or as little as you want, at your leisure. I am a regular at TLC, but shamefully, I haven't written a review yet. That's not to say I don't tell people all the time about the place, still, I feel bad for not letting the rest of you in on this. Why does it deserve 5 stars? For starters, the service is fantastic. It's like meeting up with family or old friends almost every time I come in. People will take care of you here. Another reason for the praise is the food. I haven't had anything I didn't like, but my favorites are the Bubba sandwich, the chicken avocado salad, the green goodness salad (without blue cheese), one fine bird sandwich, and half the appetizers. Don't let the picnic tables and casual atmosphere fool you. The food is top notch. I'm also a fan of the cocktails. Several premixed options mean faster bar service. My favorite, the jalapeño infused TLC Margarita satiates my spice craving and has a nice kick. The non-alcoholic Good Juju is a nice summer option when I'm not wanting a boozy option. For the holidays, the place is decked out in everything Christmas. There was even a snow machine on Christmas Eve that made it seem like it was snowing outside while we were inside sipping our festive holiday-themed cocktails. Forget the overcrowded, overpriced Christmas pop up bars, this place has everything they do plus breathing room! read more

When my friend and I are craving oysters, TLC Austin is one of our go-to places. The few times I've been here, they have had $1 oysters, which is a steal! We always end up ordering between 60-72 oysters and don't feel an ounce of judgment. The service is decent, but the staff are nice. You can usually find someone walking around if you can't find your server. They have a solid brunch menu and their drinks are strong and delicious. I've been to this South Lamar restaurant multiple times, and every time it's fantastic! We tend to always order the same things seafood boil, and oysters! However, we added Atomic Shrimp Cocktail recently. The name says it all, HOT! Right up our alley, we loved it! We didn't need any Tabasco for this shrimp cocktail! The oysters were fresh, and delicious. They have a Texas Favorites on their menu we need to try next time (Chicken Fried Steak). They have a wall filled with local craft beer, ciders, and plenty more. There is something for everyone. There is plenty of indoor, bar, and outdoor seating. Pet and family friendly. The atmosphere is fun, and staff is always friendly. TLC is located in The Lamar Union which provides free parking in a huge parking garage, definitely a plus! read more

There was almost no alcohol, and it was more like a glass of bloody mary mix. Then, they had the audacity to charge 13 for it. Additionally, the service at the bar was the worst I've ever experienced. The host was kind, but the young male bartender and the older woman (either a bartender trainee or just new to the job) were quite rude and cold. The woman didn't know how to make the drink (totally fine if training!) and then tried to charge us for two, despite only ordering one. I've got mixed reviews. East coast oysters, yes. For only $2.00/oyster, not bad considering it's actually coming from the east coast. Super refreshing. As for the chargrilled oysters, I was disappointed in the size. They used the smallest and saddest oysters, which made the oyster shrivel up.
