Well... First time eating here, and I've been here before, but not really to dine in. I've stopped by before to have a latte. I must say that my experience was pretty pleasant. The food was kosher and it was good. It tasted good. I had their, "toast cafe omelet" which was tasty. It was clean and delicious. Our server Lior was sooooo adorable. The food here was soo soo soo soo GOOOOODDD!!! I had the salmon noodles and it was amazing!!! Full of flavor, sweet and spicy! My son had a cheese pizza and the cheese on the pizza was the best cheese I had every tasted on a pizza!!! We ordered a crepe and it was very yummy! I had a hazelnut frap and it was one of the best frappe I've had! And the whip cream on it was soooo good and sweet! We also ordered 3 chocolate soufflé! It was so good we couldn't get enough!!! I waited several weeks to post this review just so my temper would cool. If I could give it ZERO I definitely would. You can see from my other reviews that I'm normally a person who plays up the positives and I usually only post about places I love! First of all, the waitress dropped coffee on two customers outside then did it again when she tried to serve me mine! She did not offer me a towel and then forgot to bring me a new coffee (which is terrible btw). They do not have a kids' menu, so I had to pay full price for my 5 year old. My daughter said her eggs tasted funny, so I ordered her a smoothie and asked them not to use cow's milk because she's allergic. Well, either the eggs were bad or the smoothie had dairy in it because instead of going to the park, we had to run home where she sat on the toilet for the next 3 hours in pain!!! Last but not least, they gave me the wrong check ($5) so I told them and then I had to wait 20 minutes for them to give me the correct one. They didn't give me a copy & my waitress disappeared so I had to go the register. When she cashier handed it to me she said, "How was your breakfast?". I told her this was the worst dining experience I'd EVER had in LA & I've lived here 22 years! She said, "Oh, sorry" and that was it. No reduction of bill, no offer for a free coupon and she didn't care WHY. I will never go back and I will tell every single person I know to avoid this place like plague! read more

My sister and I stumbled upon this place somewhat out of necessity. We were on the way to work and 'someone' just couldn't hold it any longer. Anyway, I ended up getting a mocha latte, which was surprisingly really good. I don't mean surprisingly like I expected it to suck, but I've have plenty of mocha latte's in my time and most have always tasted too much like milk or chocolate milk. The host in the beginning didn't seem like he could speak or understand English when we were asking him about seating. The waitress was very nice but kept forgetting or not understanding that we wanted glasses of water and coke. She brought the coke but no water and we told her again. She forgot someone else came around to check on us and we asked again (there were a lot of different people coming back and forth to ask us - got a little confusing) we finally got the water and they only brought ONE glass - such communication issues. We were so thirsty and couldn't believe how difficult it was to get water ! Anyway the first plate came the shakusha (can't remember spelling) and the pita bread that came with it had mold on it. She apologized and took it and came back with a different toasted bread ( looked like that thick end of the bag bread-cut up and toasted ) Anyway I was sooo over the place. This review applies only to breakfast. Haven't had their lunch or dinner items. They may be a lot better than what I had. Service was casual and very friendly. Super nice staff. I ordered the continental breakfast with extra eggs to share with my toddler. Requested them scrambled. Eggs were terrible. Rubbery and overcomes. Under seasoned. Potatoes were dry and bland. The only good things were the toast, salad and fresh squeezed orange juice. Portions were tiny too, for a $13 breakfast I expected more. I would not recommend this place for breakfast. I noticed the table next to me got a dry rubbery omelette as well. Maybe they excel at other dishes but it's a shame their chefs can't rock a basic thing like eggs. read more

I was really excited to see a cute place like this pop up in my neighborhood, so I gave it a try. Overall, it's not bad. The waitress who took my order didn't seem very happy to be there, but oh well. I ordered the tuna melt to go and got my order in about 10 minutes. I was not thrilled about spending over $10 on a sandwich, but it's a risk you take when you try a new place. The side salad was put together a little oddly, with corn and lots of carrots cut into very long ribbon-like strips. I have to say though, they do use really great quality veggies. Very fresh lettuce, me gusta. The sandwich was pressed panini style and it was gigantic. I didn't think it'd be worth $10, but it totally was. Great flavor, but maybe holding back on the spice wouldn't hurt. As a whole, I'm very pleased. Pros: generous portions, quality ingredients Cons: a tad pricey, underwhelming service read more

Loved this place! Very friendly staff- the owner/host felt terrible that we had to wait 15 minutes (because it was Christmas day, and packed as one of the only open restaurants!). I did not not like this place! The crowd was very unpleasant. There was a VERY loud talking guy sitting ALONE on the other side of the room and I could not hear my own husband talk anytime he chatted it up with the people behind the counter, the servers, etc, sitting from his seat. Had a thought that he might be the owner and how terrible that is for atmosphere. How bad is it that I felt the rest of the customers themselves hurt my review for this place as well? He was not the only super obnoxious one. May I suggest installing some better sound absorbing materials so that the normal first-time customers aren't as susceptible to hearing too many of the obnoxious comments echoing throughout the room? Food: I ordered the quinoa tabouli salad and got what seemed like 5lbs of quinoa mixed up with one plum tomato, some pine nuts, two sprigs of cilantro, and an overwhelmingly unpleasant lemon dressing. My husband said his omelette was not good so I didn't even bother trying it. I could not get out of that place fast enough! Another gem: Me pointing at menu: "What kind of tea is 'Heavenly Buddha'?" Stopped in on my way to work to get a latte and I really wasn't expecting much, but it was incredible! So smooth! The didn't have non-fat milk so I got it with soymilk--yum! Side note: I noticed they had a loyalty/frequent coffee card, where you get a free coffee after a certain amount. I asked the barista/waitress to start me a card since I just purchased a latte and she said it was only for regular coffee... That seems a bit strange as espresso drinks are more expensive than coffee. Management, is this correct? Anyway, it was still absolutely delicious and I'll be back for more. read more

Delicious! I really don't understand the reviews saying that people think the portions are small... 3/4 of our party couldn't even finish our breakfast and took home generous leftovers. Ordered a cappuccino. What the gal proceeded to make was no such thing. Milk was haphazardly steamed way too hot with zero foam. Espresso shots were way weak and tasteless. The burned milky latte threw away was not drinkable. I try to patron indept cafes, especially that serve organic coffee, vs. the chains but this place will not be added to the list. I also ordered a wrap which was such a sorry excuse for lunch, it was tiny tortilla with way too much feta and nothing else. I literally could not find avocado. If this place wants to charge prices in the ballpark of Sweet Butter or Blu Jam, they really need to step up their game. My respect was lost when they took my $3.00 in exhange for that mess of a drink. In all, a disappointing $14.00 mistake. read more

I live in Sherman Oaks and it's nice to have a cafe that gives you that European feeling. Service is great and the place is clean. Food is really good. Small little bodega type breakfast place. A little too pricey for what they offer especially in terms of the quality itself. Quality is not bad but just doesn't justify the prices. While not outrageous just a little more than I care to pay for brunch type items. I forget exactly what I had but that's kind of the issue. The garlic bread they handed to me was great as well. Mor was my waitress and she was great with explaining the menu and helping me choose what to order! Their traditional shakshuka and their green shakshuka are both delicious! As a pesto fan, I would especially recommend the green shakshuka, which is creamy without being unbearably rich. Their limonana frozen mint reminds me of the mint lemonade that is so popular in Israel! I am definitely coming back to Toast Cafe soon! read more

Salads and wraps are amazing I love the egg white wrap vegetable soup and the hummus so amazing . The manager is so sweet and generous he always takes care of everything and everyone . The staff itself is amazing they are so humble polite professional kind and very good spirited people they work hard and never complain about anything they always make sure you feel at home and are feeling great every time I have a horrible day they always make me feel at home and better and I always feel like I'm family to The cafe always the cafe has a really great energy to it. It's always very clean and nice. plus it's Opened till midnight which is awesome for a late night hang out spot . My favorite of the staff members are Danny tony and tommy they are always so nice and polite and so funny they always make me Laugh. I don't keep kosher but many of my friends do so we ended up here for dinner to catch up one night. SERVICE: My menu was dirty when I got it but the server replaced it asap! She was really nice and took care of our questions. One of my friend has meat before coming in so she wanted to make sure that her latte had no dairy in it, especially in the caramel flavoring. The server was really nice about checking for her. I'm sure that they're used to these type of requests all the time from LA kosher peeps KOSHERNESS/FOOD: It's a dairy restaurant which is easily evident when you take a look at the menu. I chose to go with a "bagel toast" which is basically like a glorified Israeli panini and it's DELICIOSO! I built my own with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and peppers. All of the ingredients were really tasty together and very filling so I had 1/2 the sandwich left over to eat the next day. The side salad was very depressing I'm sad to say. The creamy vinagrette was good but about 1/2 of my lettuce was browned/old :( No bueno. Other people around us were having feasts! Their food is pricy for what it is but eh, it's kosher so I expected it. AMBIANCE: It's cute inside, nothing really special. The chairs are way too close to each other so it's kind of awkward getting in and out of your chair if the place is busy -- which it was. I would've given them four stars for the food, but a little hair in my hummus and how they handled it knocked them down to two. Food: I ordered the hummus platter and it was good. Well, it tasted like Sabra brand hummus, which I like. And the bread was excellent. But then I found a straight black hair in my hummus and I immediately called a server over. Service: When we first arrived, we asked about the French toast and our server had no clue about how it was served. (It was a new item and there wasn't much of a description on the blackboard.) But she didn't even bother to ask someone who did know. Okay. I attributed that to her being young. Then, the hair incident with my hummus occurred. As soon as I saw it, I called the waitress over and showed her the hair. Her immediate reaction? They wear hair nets in the back. Well, then I don't know whose straight black hair it was 'cause my hair is brown and curly. And mom's hair is reddish brown. And it annoyed me that her initial reaction was, "It's not ours." Whenever I've been dissatisfied with my food in other establishments, their first reaction was always, "I'm sorry," before trying to remedy the situation. Anyway, she eventually asked me if I wanted something else, but since we were pressed for time, I asked for another serving of hummus. Normally, when I (or people I've dined with) receive replacement food, I get a normal serving size. But since I had eaten about half of my hummus before discovering the hair, they just gave me a serving that was approximately the equivalent of how much hummus I had left on my original plate (maybe even a bit less), which I found surprising, disappointing, and a bit comical. Then, the check came. Nothing was taken off. That, in combination with the waitress initially trying to pin the hair on me and getting a partial replacement dish, resulted in a less than ideal dining situation. And I will not be going to Toast, again. Next time I have a craving for hummus, I'll just grab some Sabra from the supermarket. read more
