Spouse and I were driving along Ventura BLVD trying to find a place to have lunch. When we noticed a corner Cafe named Toast Cafe. We never heard of it. So we decided to give it a try. We were so glad we did. Nice patio on 2 sides. Along Ventura Blvd. and along a quiet side street ( this was where we were sitting) and a nice inside area. Nice and friendly staff. A very nice and friendly lady ( it turned out to be the owner ) took our order. My spouse who is vegan had vegan shawarma with Israeli salad and fries and I had Fish Schnitzel and fries. It all was delicious. When we were ready to leave we decided to take some sweets with us. The owner told us about the new cake she is offering ( she actually makes it herself). Banana Cheesecake. I LOVE this place! The service here is outstanding! Santos in particular is my go-to server, but everyone at this place is so friendly and helpful! I have been going here weekly for a few weeks now and I won't stop. Santos now recognizes me and my tastes and can anticipate what I might ask for. He is good about checking up on our table, and is always so funny. My friend and I always crack up with him. After he checks on us, someone else usually will approach and check up on us too. We are SO well taken care of at Toast Cafe. Everything here is just so easy. The checks are split between my friend and I accurately and no questions asked, boxes for leftovers are brought over promptly, and occasionally, Santos has let me take my coffee to go! Haha! When dining out in the Valley, it's usually somewhere off of Ventura boulevard that I choose. There's a lot of great places there that I really like. I've passed by Toast Café many times on the way to one of these restaurants. Toast Café always seemed unassuming with their basic signage but I've learned not to judge a book by its cover. Toast Café is a breakfast-lunch spot with an Israeli flare. Everything is kosher, of course, and there are some usual dishes like: scrambles, omelets, yogurt and fruit - but what really caught my attention are the dishes traditional to Israel. I love shakshuka and have had it before in other dining establishments, so we ordered one green shakshuka, I ordered the "la fatut" and one of the continental breakfasts (which includes coffee). While waiting for our order, we received some bread with jam and butter. The bread was delicious: perfectly toasted and it was made with dill so it had great flavor. Our order arrived shortly and it all looked amazing! We received two green shakshukas instead of my la fatut but it was quickly replaced and management was kind enough to leave the second order with us. I fell in love with their shakshuka. It's made with spinach, pesto and cilantro. Such a great flavor combination. La fatut was even better, in my opinion, solely for the fact that the feta and green olives provided that tang and brininess that I crave. I couldn't eat it fast enough. La fatut is eggs mixed with green olives, feta and malawach - a filo pastry - and it was served with a side salad. I'm not much for salads but I found myself eating everything with such gusto! Everything was exceptional, to say the least. The café is quiet, food delicious, and the service perfect. My only critique is that the menu on their website, their menu on Yelp and their menu in-house all have different prices. read more

Linguini Alfredo was exceptionally creamy and had plenty of mushrooms, so if you are an pasta and Alfredo lover then this will be right up your alley. The Herb Garlic Salmon Salad is also really fresh and the salmon was cooked nicely and was packed with flavor. I really appreciated the white wine sauce and balsamic dressing on the salad. The New York Scramble was also great and came with a decent amount of salmon. Lastly, and certainly not least the Arugula Salad (I added seared ahi tuna) was extremely good; packed with mushrooms, hearts of palm, and cherry tomatoes. I think the best feature of this place is that the portions sizes are perfect and all the ingredients are extremely fresh. This is definitely a great place to stop in for lunch / a quick bite to eat. Not only is the food top-notch, but the staff and the owner are some of the friendliest people that I've ever met. Every single person that works here seems to enjoy what they do and enjoy their guests. The first time I came in, one of the servers said something to me after I finished my meal that I'll never forget. She said "Please stay as long as you'd like; our home is your home." I've been here about a dozen times since, and I always receive that same, warm, personal connection. Everyone here smiles - not just at each other, but at every single customer. As for the food, I almost always get the Toast Cafe Special omelet. It is hands-down my favorite omelet - from any restaurant, from any home, from anywhere. It has spinach and sun-dried tomatoes and goat cheese and feta cheese, and it always comes with a salad. There's something about this omelet (or maybe it's this place), that makes me feel happy to my core. This place is just superb, simple as that. Sitting outside on the side street was just wonderful. The service was excellent and caring. We ordered a few different dishes and each one was attractively plated and delish as well! The salad is fresh and plentiful and the grilled salmon was excellent. I wanted to try everything on the menu, but I'll just have to go back for more! I couldn't resist so I had the Dulce de Leche Cheesecake to finish....It finished me for sure.
