This was a major disappointment. I read reviews for nearby Thai restaurants. This one had a good review so I went and ordered the lettuce cup (Larb) and the coconut soup (Tom Kha). The lettuce was all chopped up and soggy with some ground chicken sprinkled on it. Very bland. The coconut soup had no coconut milk or at least didn't appear to. It was watery and tasteless. I paid $14.88 for the worst meal. I had to throw it away. I got this meal today. It was so hideous that today I was inspired to upload the yelp app. I have never before been inspired to write a bad review. The food was that gross. read more

We came to Tom Yum Thai because friends invited us. I don't think we even knew it existed before. It's in an unassuming strip mall, and with the weather being bad, well... we probably would have missed it. Upon getting out of the car, we saw a lovely water turtle trying to make tracks to a pond.. well his pond was a puddle so we tried to turn him around, since we didn't want him becoming a speedbump. Inside, the place smelled delicious. It wasn't terribly busy, but it took a few minutes for us to be seated, and then a few minutes more for us to be served. Once the waitress came over, we placed our orders for our appetizers and for our meals. The appetizers: Spring rolls, soups and Chicken Satay. Everything was served quickly and tasted absolutely delicious. 2 of our party like their food Thai hot... and they actually achieved this after much cajoling. Many places don't want to do this for middle aged white folks, but when you convince them, they do give in. Our meals came and the food was incredibly flavourful. The ingredients were very freshly made and everything had such pizzaz. From the garlic and black pepper pork to the other dishes that I can't remember. Everything was perfect! This is my favorite Thai place in the Dunedin area. It has many delicious lunch specials with fresh vegetables at reasonable prices. The cashew chicken is my favorite. It has plenty of gently cooked veggies & sliced chicken in a light sauce, perfectly steamed rice & a not-greasy egg roll. Don't let the strip mall location put you off. This is a phenomenal Thai and sushi place. Hole-in-the-wall small town feel, fantastic, friendly service, fantastic price point and unparalled food! We had the Jalapeno Hamachi, which has some of the best ponzu i've had in a while, a wonderful bottle of sake, the crazy roll which is wonderful, and the Amazing curry (which lives up to it's name and then some- jam packed with peanutty flavour!) Having spent much time in Thailand over the last 15 years, I always seek a quality Thai restaurant in my area. Tom Yum is my go-to place now. In Thailand, restaurants north of Bangkok are oriented toward Chinese Food and those in the panhandle cater toward Burmese cuisine. Tom Yum seems to be closer to central Thailand around Bangkok. Great spice selection. And for American palates not outrageously spicy hot. Singha beer is the standard in Thailand but I keep asking for Chang (pronunced chung) beer. This could very easily be a 5-Star plus place. The sushi and menu items we tried are so good, but the customer service leaves little to be desired. Food was so excellent, I truly felt bad leaving a tip at all for the server because the sushi chef deserved the it, yet somehow she ended up with a fat tip because our bill was high and I'm 20% minimum; (Idk why?) but don't forget u can tip the chef too!! WOW! I am in love with this cute restaurant in Dunedin. The food is really good! First off the location may look a little sketch at first but when you enter, its really the cutest restaurant! The décor makes you feel like you took a quick trip to Thailand. The staff is super friendly! I ordered a combination Thai fried rice and Calamari. The waitress took the time to explain what exactly was in the dish and I appreciated that. The onions were cut a little too big but the rice and the flavors where on point. I will return. read more

Do yourself a favor and stop by for lunch! They have a good selection of bento boxes. I love a variety of different flavors that bento boxes offer. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura box and my partner ordered the Pad Thai box(see pics). The sushi/sashimi was some of the best I have ever had. Went in by myself and sat at the sushi bar. There was a 7 to 8 year old of one of the employees sitting three seats away playing a small video game. The boy was not making any noise at first but then started making noise and began to get louder, one of the ladies that works there came over and said something to him and he was quiet for a minute then started to make noise even louder than before and I said something to the lady making sushi rolls and she said something to the boy but he did not stop. The second star is only because my name is on the Restaurant, although I really don't want to be associated with this place and will not be returning. A complete one and done. I ordered some takeout over the phone as I have had a bit of a cough and think it is rude to eat in a restaurant and continuously cough. I ordered the crispy duck 18.95 since duck is my favorite animal protein and the crispy tofu appetizer which the person on the other end asked what kind of sauce and offered me a variety. This was a 4.95 dish. When I arrived my bill was close to $35. Somehow they changed my order to the tofu Siam entree. 1. I don't know what Siam is 2. Although I like tofu I'll never get an entree of it. Now I am not one to throw a fit and actually like to test businesses in this case so I stated well that is not what I ordered but I guess I'll take it. Please note, they know they screwed up, there is no disputing this. Now what a PROUD BUSINESS would have done is said its on the house or pay the 4.95 and you can have this. This was not offered so I paid ten bucks more (with tax) for something all parties know was not what I ordered and this is why I am active with Yelp to tell you the great and also the bad. If the food was great I would admit it. But it was average and well below when it came to the duck. The duck was so dried out with no help of hydration from the sauce. This place served me the second worse duck of my life which I've had 100s of time. It was as if it was reheated each day and finally couldn't be reheated anymore and I was the lucky one to purchase it. The tofu dish was alright. The tofu cooked nicely and the vegetables were crisp and fresh. Siam (after looking it up) comes with a mild chili sauce (why did they ask what type of sauce I wanted for dipping). This was extremely mild which is just too sweet to me. The place seems to do well for sushi but they already took enough money from me. We were brought here by a couple who lives in the area. They raved about this place all the way to the restaurant. Noteable menu items: Tuna Tataki : Thin sliced sear tuna with ponzu sauce. Crunchy Bomb Roll : (S/O) Fried shrimp, crab, cc, asparagus, tempura fried topped with seafood dynamite. Crazy Roll (I/O) : Fish Tempura, avocado, cucumber, scallion, cc, masago, spicy krab, topped with tempura crunch, eel sauce & spicy sauce I would recommend any of the House Special Rolls because you'll get some sushi with a multitude of different flavors. The House Special Rolls are more expensive but you get 8 or 10 pieces and they are relatively large. I have to start out with a 4 out of 5 for now. I usually need a second visit to confirm if I want to give the place a 5 or not. But, don't worry, you won't be disappointed by trying this place out. read more

My mom was craving Thai snapper (fried whole with chili sauce), so we looked it up and found this place. I read the reviews carefully and felt safe enough to venture out. One of the reviewers said not to be deceived by the looks of the restaurant. He/She was right. On the outside, it doesn't look like much at all. But the service and food were excellent. 1. Whole Snapper - market price and we ended up paying 30.95 because it was a big one. Very well done - crispy and flavorful. The sauce was not too spicy because I had my toddler with me. It was mild enough for her to eat but had enough kick for us adults. Gave us a heaping bowl of rice. WE brought the leftovers home and I ate it the next day (because I had too many rolls while we were waiting for the fish) - and it was still delicious! 2. Sushi - I wanted some rolls, so ordered maki platter (or something like that). It was 3 rolls - cali, tuna, and salmon and cream cheese - for 11.95. The amount of fish in the rolls was very generous. I think i saw at least 2 pieces of salmon in each piece (I believe there were 6-8 pieces per roll). And I became full on the sushi before the snapper even made it to the table. 3. service - great! The waitress was very attentive and patient with us - the toddler... 4. I didn't give it full 5 stars because though the bathroom was very spacious and clean, they did not have a changing table - not even a small table or anything to make into a changing table. Out of all the thai restaurants to try out he only wants to come here again and again because the food is delicious, you get a nice portion for the price and its just enough spice for him. The sushi is not my favorite here but their pad thai is pretty decent (not the best I've had but I'll take it for what it is). I got the chicken pad thai. Wasn't asked how hot i wanted it... so that's always a flag. But I asked for medium. I asked for extra sprouts and was told it would be $2... for 10 sprouts added to my dish. 15 mins later I picked it up and was surprised at how small the container was... like an app or side salad container. I brought it home and it was packed with pad thai... so much so that it was difficult to eat with chopsticks. I transferred it to a plate. The chicken was very dry, as if it was precooked early in the day and thrown in last minute. Did I say dry? The pieces were a bit too large and cumbersome to eat with chopsticks. The noodles were good, and with good flavors...and good spice for a "medium" request. I ate quite a bit of the dish. Unfortunately, something was not right.... my suspect: precooked chicken lying around all day. I'm still recovering as I write this. read more

We were craving Thai tonight.Since we had no idea where to go, we went right to Yelp for suggestions. Most seemed to suggest there were some decent options off Park and 66th St. so we headed south only to find the first location closed. (Its Sunday). We kept going as far South as Kenneth City....same result...So, turned the car around and headed North. Deciding to at least head back towards home rather than farther. Tom Yum came up on google maps North of home, so, we decided to give it a shot. (Calling ahead this time to make sure they were even open). We finally arrived at our destination, tucked into a strip mall with neighbors consisting of a cremation company, bowling supply warehouse and the Bridge of Love church...needless to say, we were a bit nervous. We ordered Pad Thai and green curry chicken. As we waited for our food to arrive, we took in some of the decor. Although, not dirty, there were definitely several fixtures that hadn't been dusted in some time. Surprisingly, even with only three employees and a fairly full house, our food was delivered very quickly. Both dishes were large portions. The curry was delicious consisting of fresh veggies and a side of jasmine rice. The pad thai was great with just the right chicken to noodle ratio. We left with two to-go boxes due to the large portions and were very happy to find a great little Thai restaurant so close to home! Might have been 5 stars if not for the dust issue. read more

Went here again for pre-movie dinner. When we arrived, just after 5, we were the only ones there, but every seat was taken when we left at 630. We started with a bottle of the Sho Chiku Bai unfiltered nigori(YUM), tsingtao and the thai spring rolls. The spring rolls were very good and extra crunchy. They use a thicker wonton roll, which was very good. For our meals we had the green curry, Tampa roll and the Rainbow roll. The presentation for the sushi was very nice and I immediately knew that I had ordered with my stomach and not my brain. The Tampa roll was good and pleasantly warm. The Rainbow rolls fish all tasted nice and fresh and, as the base of the roll, the crab/california roll, was very good. The green currys portion was pretty large and very good also. There are three local sushi places we love. And this is one of them. Everything is so good and fresh. Unlike most sushi restaurants, Tom Yum gives you a good amount. You really get more bang for your buck. My only complaint, and it's not a strong one at that, is the edamame is very lack luster and small. Pricey but good. I called ahead and ordered some sushi rolls to take home for dinner. I can't remember all their names, but one was a crunchy tuna roll. This sushi is GOOD. Like, really good. It tasted so fresh and it was super filling and delicious. My only issue was the price. For three rolls, an order of summer rolls (also delicious) and an order of crab Rangoon, I paid like $50. For someone who is very cheap this made me very sad. But it was MAYBE worth it because this food is really really really good. Highly recommend if you're a sushi person. read more
