If you're looking for classic New Mexican comfort food in Santa Fe, Tomasita's absolutely delivers. We grabbed a table on the patio and started with their fresh sopapillas, which came out warm, fluffy, and perfect for tearing apart and dipping in honey. For my husband's meal, he ordered green chile enchiladas, smothered in their famous hatch green chile and melted cheese. The sauce had that perfect New Mexican balance -- flavorful, a little smoky, and with just enough heat to keep things interesting without overpowering the dish. I went with chicken tacos, served with Spanish rice and all the fresh toppings. The tacos were loaded with shredded chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and salsa, and the rice on the side was fluffy and well seasoned. To drink, I tried a layered frozen margarita, which was as fun to look at as it was to drink -- icy, refreshing, and perfect for a sunny afternoon on the patio. My husband had a cold beer, it made for the ultimate Santa Fe lunch combo. Between the flavorful food, the relaxed patio atmosphere, and the classic New Mexican dishes done right, Tomasita's is one of those spots that reminds you why Santa Fe's food scene is so special. Definitely a place I'd come back to anytime I'm in town.

After a long day of adventuring back and forth to Albuquerque for a football game and other sightseeing, it was pretty late and I had just arrived back into Santa Fe on the railrunner. I started to agonize over all the dinner choices I had, but ultimately, convenience won out and I ended up just wandering into Tomasita's. Literally the closest thing to where the train dropped me off. It had a ton of reviews, and looks like it had been around for quite some time, so I went in. The place is massive, and the joint was jumping. They actually had a short wait. Upon being seated I was asked if I wanted chips and salsa... leading to my main complaint. Where I come from, and at every other place in NM I visited for similar cuisine, that is provided for free. They charge for it here. Listed on the menu... but I had not seen it at that point. I felt this was deceptive. That said, it was just a few bucks, and maybe the chips and salsa would be awesome. That was not the case. My chips were overcooked and stale tasting, and the salsa did nothing to help. A flat waste, and not a good first impression. From there things were better, and actually, my carne asada was way better than I expected... in the realm of cheap steaks, this was certainly one of the better ones. It was a combination that also came with a cheese chile relleno that I thought was great, and a chimichanga which was not. I was pretty full after that, didn't eat much on the rice and beans, but found them just fine. Interestingly, chips and salsa not free, but a wonderful puffed up sopapilla with a sweet cinnamon butter was. This, the sirloin, and the chile relleno helped save the meal. All in all, this felt like a pretty touristy place, but one with a long history. I thought it was fine, but should mention, it was my least favorite meal of the trip where just about everything else was a culinary delight.

It was... meh. We waited almost two hours for a table, and after all that buildup the food ended up being pretty mediocre. Not really sure what all the hype is about when there are definitely better spots to eat around Santa Fe. I ordered the carne adovada. The red chile sauce felt pretty one-note and the pork was on the tough side, which was disappointing given how popular the dish is there. Honestly, the chips and salsa were the highlight of the meal. The salsa definitely has some heat to it too . Overall, between the long wait and average food, it just didn't live up to the reputation.

I came in on a lazy and cold night, no wait required. We sat by the bar in a cozy booth. We ordered margaritas, I actually was surprised that they served frozen margaritas, I thought that they were gone with the wind like piña coladas. We ordered a regular margarita and a frozen one, and both were delicious. We also ordered a tortilla soup, a carne adovada burrito, and a mix platter. That gave us a good sample of New Mexico food and Tomasita's as well. We enjoyed the food a lot. The mix platter was good, the carne adovada was amazing, the soup was good, and the sopapillas stole the show. I loved those fried things. To summarize, we had a good meal, we tried several items, we got a good idea of New Mexico cuisine, and we ate at a somewhat upscale restaurant with great service.

Cute little spot right by the rail yard. Went for a late lunch and had a wonderful experience. Great service and great atmosphere. Ordered a couple dishes beef sopapillas and chicken enchilada. Really big portion sizes and staff was so friendly (helped with sauce levels). We also had pine cheesecake- different but really good as well as they start you off will sopapillas and butter/honey (IN house honey) aka SOO GOOD- the combo was amazing. Overall great experience and a must for sopapillas

Being from out of town we decided to try out the Rail Runner and right by the depot in Santa Fe is Tomasita's! Relatives suggested we give it a try and I was glad we did. Our waitress was so friendly and gave fantastic suggestions. We enjoyed our margaritas, meals, and sopaipillas. Definitely a must-stop in Santa Fe!

This spot was on my list of restaurants provided by Pack Up and Go for my bday trip so of course I had to stop by since it was listed as one of the best restaurants in Santa Fe! It was a nice easy stroll from my hotel right by the Santa Fe Plaza. I got a very delicious margarita as well as the chili rellenos with Christmas sauce. It totally hit the spot! The portion was huge for me so I definitely had leftovers. The fry bread that came with it was also very yummy! Definitely a good stop on my first visit to Santa Fe! One weird thing, I was sitting at the bar and it seemed this group of older people had come in for whatever special they were having and they basically just hovered around me at the bar trying to get me to leave so that they could sit there. I was near the end of my meal so it wasn't a huge deal (and not the restaurant's fault) - just made me feel awkward and like I had to quickly finish up to get out of their way.

Misrahin provided excellent customer service! The decor is amazing, the musicians serenaded tables, the margaritas are potent (that's according to my colleagues, I had a soft drink), and at the entrance is a warning that their chiles are the HOTTEST (also according to my colleagues, because I avoid spicy). Everyone loved their food! Misrahan provided good recommendations, so I enjoyed my grilled veggie quesadilla, sans the green chile which was on the side;). We couldn't fit their famous dessert (being fully stuffed) sopapilla with ice cream, but if their sopapilla with dinner was any indication, that famous dessert must be yummy!!! A wonderful place to enjoy dinner with colleagues, so do visit and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

The place was in the parking lot of the Railrunner. The food was quite tasty, but I was unable to enjoy it much due to a person sitting next to me after I had been served. It was quite crowded at the bar where I was eating. The bartender was very nice and served me well. I think I ate at the Thomasitas in ABQ about 20 years ago.

Nice little place close to the hotel. Many people at the agency we were visiting suggested this place. Now, I am a looker. I look at what other people are eating to see if something catches my eye. Things I was seeing didn't really entice my taste buds. I was in the mood for chips and salsa but you had to pay for chips and salsa. I wasn't going to pay for chips and salsa. I decided on the Tuesday special plate. It was a taco, enchilada, and chile relleno. I asked for a ground beef taco. It was okay. The meat had a taste I wasn't used to. It tasted gamey, like venison. One of my coworkers said they may use very lean meat. I dowsed it with salsa and salt and ate it. The enchilada was a blue corn tortilla with chicken. It was okay, I cannot believe I'm saying this, the chile was a little too spicy for me. The relleno was good. The sauce was a little too chunky for me but had a good flavor. Now, I really wanted some rice. The rice was underdone. Someone told me they serve their rice al dente. Sorry, it was underdone. I did not eat it. The sopapillas and beans were good. I asked for a drink to go, and it was a huge cup. I don't think I took any leftovers with me. I had planned to and even asked for a to-go container, but I changed my mind. I think there are other places I would like to try if I am ever in the area again.

We have eaten here in the past when we lived in Santa Fe and always have had very good experiences. This particular time we dined out on the patio since we had our dog Henry with us. We were told the wait was about 20 minutes and we got seated in about 35 minutes. Our server was friendly and attentive for being as busy as the were. The ground beef stuffed sopapilla and beef tamale both smoothered with green chille, and the ground beef taco were all great. The salsa with our salsa and chip side was very good, and the sopapilla with honey butter was great. Overall, we had a nice dinner amd some great food.

Tuesday, our last lunch in Santa Fe at Tomasitas in the rail yard district. Tomasitas was not on our radar screen, but they must have been for half of Santa Fe. We were just checking out the rail yard district and looking for a place to have lunch. There was no line outside the restaurant, but it was jammed packed inside, elbow to elbow waiting to be called. The bar area is small and it was packed. Once checked in the wait was just shy of 30 minutes. They seated us at a two top in what I'll call the sun room. No charm here. The only problem is that we were next to a group of six that were having a really good time and were extremely noisy. Luck of the draw! We started with chips, salsa, quacomole, salsa and margaritas. The chips were thick and a bit hard. The quacolome was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The salsa was run of the mill. I ordered flat chicken enchiladas with green chili sauce. They were very good. When Jan serves these at home she calls them stacked enchiladas. Jan ordered the tamale plate and said they were excellent. In summary, the food is very good and that's the most important thing when dining out. The restaurant was slammed and very noisy. The service was OK, the prices moderate.

Save your time and money. This is overhyped. We waited almost 2 hours, so bland Tex-Mex. As someone from Texas, I was shocked at how horrible this food is passed off for such a long wait. I literally could find this food in 20 different spots across one Houston neighborhood. I think hype is really playing this place up. The temale reminded me of an Amy's frozen meal. I eat them often and was like this tastes soooo familiar. Their beef tacos was the saving grace. Amazing, flavorful, crunchy. If I were Tomasita's, I'd be pushing these tacos!! They taste way better than that green chile sauce they are pushing.

Overall, the food is great. I ordered the veggie enchiladas and my husband ordered the beef. What came out? Two veggie enchilada plates. We would have returned the incorrect order, but we waited for an hour to be seated and then another 40 minutes for our plate that we didn't want to have to wait again so we just dealt with it. The food was delicious so I'll let the error slide. Just wished it wasn't so loud and so crowded. Otherwise, will return the next time we're in Santa Fe. read more

Oh my gosh this place was delicious! We rolled into town later and landed upon Tomasita's with 45 mins to spare before the kitchen closed. I ordered the relleno light plate which was a perfect portion. Green chili was SO good. read more

Always delicious! I've been coming here for years and Tomasita's never lets me down. The green and red chili are both flavorful, spicy and some of the best I've ever had. It's always crowded but you never have to wait very long and the service is always good. Highly recommend! read more

If you love sopapillas a meal at Tomasita's is a MUST! We lived in Santa Fe for several years and while we know this restaurant will be busy we still wait our turn for the solid food and our favorite sopapillas anywhere in The City Different! There were six of us, it was the weekend, and a holiday week to boot, so we knew there would be a wait. Their bar was busy too, but we made our way and got a couple of seats and had some drinks and chat to pass the time. They quoted an hour and it was just about right with the wait a bit longer, but that was understandable being Christmas week! Our group got a very nice table in one of the back rooms and soon we were also serenaded by a fun mariachi band, which was obviously enjoying their gig and took several requests. It added nicely to our experience there, especially for the youngsters at our table. Our group had the following: tortilla soup (high marks); stuffed sopapillas (chicken and roasted vegetables, Christmas on the side), which were excellent; a bowl of posole, which was wonderfully flavorful and done not spicy as requested; three-taco plate (one chicken, one beef, one pork), which was a huge hit with the 13 year old; the kid's burrito for the 7 year old, which was large enough to satisfy his hunger; and the chili relleno plate, which our son said were the very best chili rellenos he had anywhere in Santa Fe or during his recent trip to Mexico. Of course we gorged ourselves on the sides of sopapillas, which were brought hot and often to our table! The honey was local and flavorful and the cinnamon butter was a great touch as well. As I said, Tomasita's sopas are our favorite in all of Santa Fe and why we picked Tomasita's in the first place. They were as wonderful as we recalled them to be! Fun atmosphere, good, solid New Mexican food, and good service. If for no other reason, hit Tomasita's for their sopas! You won't regret it! read more

Great place to eat. Had the beef taco plate and chicken taco plate. We enjoyed both but we felt the beef was a little better. 3 tacos each plus rice and bean plus the best part, fried sopaipilla! Way too much food! Prices were fabulous too! Each plate was $12.50. Service was great too! Fabiola was our server and was very quick and thorough. read more

I visited this restaurant when I was in Santa Fe about five years ago, and brought my husband here on our recent week-long trip. It does feel like it's built for the tourists, but I don't mind that. You get a good New Mexican food experience - the stuffed sopapillas here are to die for! I definitely recommend! read more

Have always looked soooo forward to eating here when in town. Our meal took twice as long to get than those who came after us. Thinking the waiter forgot to put our order in. Everyone else received their sopas... but us.. We asked twice... the third time we asked he finally brought them.. other tables received a full order and our table of 4 received 2. My husband ordered an egg on top and guess what... it didn't even have a yolk... wtf? Just some egg whites plopped on top. At least when we ordered some sopas to go, he didn't charge us. We were seated in the bar area. After the wait.. was disappointed in the food, not nearly as good as it used to be. read more

Busy spot at lunch even at 2:30 but we were still seated quickly. Queso was just ok. Had the blue corn enchiladas and the quesadilla. Both were great but was really impressed with the quesadilla. Their green Chile sauce was the best we had while in Santa Fe. read more

We decided to have a nice meal at a local restaurant and this place was busy. We were able to get a seat and we ordered several of the local recommendations. The waiter was friendly and helped us decide on our choice. The food was good and we enjoyed our meal. Afterwards we walked over to the train station which is in the back of the parking lot. read more

Went last week and we are never disappointed. Red chili is awesome. Blue corn chicken enchiladas are absolutely delicious and so is the guacamole. Service is good and they are always packed. If you wait till noon you will have a wait to be seated, but it's worth it, big time! read more

The main reason I go back here is for their sopapillas, which are these big fluffy pillows of deliciousness, that come with honey butter and honey. The honey butter just elevates the experience. That being said, the food is decent, but not the best New Mexican food out there. Also, be prepared to wait if you go during peak periods. This place is popping and always busy, and service is usually rather slow. Also, they don't provide free chips and salsa. But you can check-in on yelp and get it free the first time. read more

After looking for a Mexican restaurant that was open for late lunch we stumbled up on this gem. I would recommend the combo plater. It gives you to try everything if you ant make up on what you should order. I liked both of their chilis red and green. The host was extremely kind and went out of his way to help us. Also the waiter was accommodating. read more

We felt like having a couple of drinks and an appetizer so we tried Tomasita's. My husband went with a house frozen margarita and I went with a house margarita on the rocks. Both were on par with an average drink you'd expect anywhere for $7.00. Chips and salsa cost $3.50 so we ordered the dip trio which included salsa, guac and yellow queso. The chips were house made, thicker cut and fresh. The basket had a mix of blue and yellow corn chips. Those were great! We received a tiny sauce cup of red hatch chili salsa (the smallest amount I've ever seen on an order). In a big contrast with the salsa, we received a healthy serving of guac served in a crispy tostada cup and giant cup of queso. The salsa was way to spicy for me, so spicy that I only ate the guac. My husband, though, can take a lot of spice and liked the salsa which he added to the bland cheese dip which improved both. Service was very friendly and quick. read more

Staff was very friendly. Recently diagnosed with Celiac and they were knowledgeable and made sure i was well taken care of. Owner made me fresh chips in separate fryer to avoid cross contamination!! Will definitely be back! read more

We asked if it was OK we sat outside still with our dog and they said that was fine. They moved us to the other side of the pillar which we originally didn't mind but then quickly realized there's no lighting there. So we were eating dinner in a very dim lit area. After reading the reviews, we were excited to try the fish tacos, tamales, and fresh chips and salsa. Unfortunately, none of these really were superstar standouts for us. The blackened fish didn't have a ton of flavor. I found myself searching for a salsa that had a little bit of salt and flavor to spruce up the fish taco. I ate one of the three and my husband ate the remaining. The tamales tasted fresh and the ratio of protein to masa was great. We ate the tamale mostly without the mole sauce, which we didn't really care for. The salsa and chips that came out as an appetizer were fine. The salsas were different and flavorful. I wish that when they dropped off the different salsas (which they do on a rotation) they would have explained what each one was.

The atmosphere is kind of a New Orleans vibe with a high ceiling and covered terrace upstairs with plants that you can see from the downstairs area. That was nice. The day before when I was walking around the Plaza, they had a big carafe of fruit-infused ice water outside the restaurant with plastic cups for people to help themselves to, and it was super refreshing. That was the best thing about this place.

Food was pretty good. Wish I had eaten there in person so I could address the service problems. I was traveling thru and saw that this place was good authentic north NM food. Cool. Wanted to pay in cash so I went there. Ordered at the window. Manny took my order. He barely said the price out loud so I thought I got the wrong change back. I sat down next to the window and waited. 15 min later I see Manny set a bag on a counter behind the host. 5 minutes later more bags. 40 minutes into waiting a guy comes in and gets handed food directly. Then random girl asks if I'm waiting on a to go order. I say yes with receipt in hand. She asks if I paid and I say yes waiving the receipt. She looks at the bags on the counter and turns out the one that Manny set down was my order, sitting waiting for 20 minutes. I say hey that food is cold now. Girl gives me a stare and gets the manager. I say I don't want to be that guy but come on it's been waiting longer than it took to cook. She says "we can give you a comp card for next time". I say there is no next time I'm traveling though. (Did I mention this place is in the middle of a tourist area with resorts across the street?). She gives me an ice cream desert. WHAT PART OF TAKE OUT DONT YOU GET? I say fine cause at this point I just want to leave. When I get back I open the bag and they shorted me the chips so now I have melted ice cream and queso, salsa, and guacamole with no chips. We are so glad that we got over to Tomasita's during out stay in Santa Fe. The food was fabulous, and the margaritas (house) were perfectly balanced. I got the large combo plate because I wanted to see how well they did with the full spectrum: crisp taco, enchilada, chile relleno, tamale (I chose vegetarian),rice, beans, salsa. Every item hit the right note: the relleno had a delightful, crisp exterior with an interesting texture (some masa in the batter?) - the chile used for it had just the right amount of heat; the taco was crisp and fully loaded with spiced ground beef; the chicken enchilada had a generous amount of shredded chicken and the topping of red sauce was great; the vegetarian tamale was a treat; the rice was tasty, "spanish style" with bits of green pepper; and pintos were nicely prepared and not mushy. Best yet were complimentary soppapillas, which we elected to get at the end of our meal. They] waiter brought out a freshly fried soppa for each of us, along with honey butter and a squeeze bottle of honey. YUM!! We were happy to have come early because upon leaving, the crowd waiting for tables was large. But I would say if you are among that waiting crowd, it's worth the wait!! NOT GOOD. Watch for the Sysco truck ! Absolutely the worst place in town. Great location, so profit margins are really good since all the food is cheaply produced. THIS IS NOT NEW MEXICAN ! Gross, foul, and a tourist trap. Last I went to Tomasitas i got the runs, so approach carefully. l have lived in NM for 10 years , originally from Buffalo, NY. I love local food and spicy, this place is not either. Save your money and time don't eat here nothing about this place is New Mexican. This is at best cafeteria food. If you like garbage food this is the place for you. Looks like half of the reviews are paid as well. Shame on this place, of course not all people care about what they eat or where it came from. This restaurant left a bad taste in my mouth. Although I had intended to dine there today, my experience was quickly soured by the unprofessional behavior of the staff. As we waited to be seated with a large party, we overheard a waitress complaining about having to split the check with a group of twelve right in front of us. Additionally, another waiter was heard grumbling about having to serve multiple children. This behavior was unacceptable and it made us feel uncomfortable as potential customers. In fact, it prompted us to leave before we even had the chance to be seated. It's a shame that the restaurant doesn't seem to prioritize customer service and staff training, as they risk losing business with this kind of behavior. read more

I've lived in Arizona for 15 years. The wife and I were passing through Santa Fe and ate here on a recommendation. This pretentious tourists destination is formulated to serve as many white people (who have no clue about Mexican food done right) as much super bland overpriced gringo garbage as possible in a short period of time. Whoever is running this joint is making a killing off people who just don't know any better. If you don't like spicy food, you're not from the American southwest, and you don't know jack about Mexican food, go ahead and stand in line with the other tourists because you'll probably love it. This place was delicious! You know a place is incredible when the waiting area is packed. The wait went quickly and Tomasitas is in a good location to walk around while you wait (link gets sent to track your spot in line) We got the chicken burrito and sopapillas and trio enchiladas w/red and green chile. The burrito had so much chicken and the enchiladas and chile were amazing. But the sopapillas were incredible! We had them with the butter and honey and ended up leaving with a fair amount of leftovers. read more

I visited this place for dinner on a busy Friday night, which resulted in our server being a bit less attentive. However, if you're looking to explore New Mexican cuisine, this restaurant is a must-try. I highly recommend the Tuesday Atrisco plate, as both the chile relleno and enchilada were fantastic. Disgusting. Found a pile of hair in my food. Never ever eat here. I walked into the kitchen to see who was the wise guy, And nothing but dirty ungroomed cooks in the there that dont speak a word of english. No hair nets. And a very unsanitary kitchen. I've lived in santa fe my whole life and have to say this is the worst restaurant in town. Stay away!!! Take a locals advice. I don't even see how they pass health inspection. read more

Tomasita's near the Santa Fe railway station is a must-visit for authentic Mexican food. I had a chalupa there, and it was bursting with flavor. The ambience is wonderful, with live music adding to the experience. Additionally, there's ample parking available and the service is top-notch. What is all the hype about? Every time I give this place a chance, I am disappointed. As a Santa Fean, I have definitely experienced better chile in other places. Our waitress was rude and in a hurry to finish her shift. The only reason I come back is because the margaritas are as good as they get downtown. The only plus is the flan. Try it. read more

Ordered our food and 40 minutes later no food. People who arrived after we had been waiting 30 minutes got their food. Walked out. Don't know if it was the waitress or what. She kept saying she checked with the manager. We'll never know how good the food is supposed to be. read more

Had a delicious dinner here! Enjoyed all the food here except for my tamale. Sopapillas, refried beans and enchiladas far superior to Maria's. I'm so glad sopapillas aren't served with meals in Texas because the ones here were SO GOOD it was hard to eat only one. read more

the owner i think his name is george he was completely rude i even saw him publicly embarrass one of his staff outside the restaraunt and send him home. As for the food mediocre at best. Napolitos from las cruces is way better and there i say it more affordble read more

Went here 1st week in April 2025. Always long lines of hungry customers waiting for a table. Food, service and ambience average. Tables close together. Noisy and difficult to talk. It is a mystery why this very average restaurant is so popular. read more

Great place for authentic and delicious New Mexican classics. The margaritas are quite tasty, and a good price for the quality. Love the nachos, fluffy tamales, and flavorful enchiladas. I would definitely recommend it. read more

Really disappointed. Red chile tasted like ketchup, green had no taste. Apple pie was too sweet. This used to be a favorite - I've eaten here since 1978. No more. One star is for service, waitresses were pleasant. read more
