Plenty of fresh cut toppings. Had a bowl of green chile with beef as well. Loved it! My buddy had the pork chops with a mix of veggies he said was on point. Rolled in the place at 830pm (closed at 9) and the place was hopping with people. Waiter was very nice, always smiling huge, answered all our questions. Great ambiance, old style brick building. Best meal I had in Santa Fe! Located right near the train depot, this restaurant is big and spacious. On a nice day, grab a seat outside overlooking the train cars. Service was friendly and patient for a group that didn't understand what a bowl of "chile" was that you could include "posole" which is really just hominy. When we finally got it together, we were able to order to our liking. I had their menudo with red chili and flour tortillas. Unfortunately, my flour tortillas arrived lukewarm and quickly turned cold, as they are served onna plate that does not protect them from getting cold. The red chile was full of flavor and rich tasting. There was enough heat for me (I love heat!) I would definitely return. My table of 3 others all ate their "chile" with beans and various meats and posole. When they say posole, don't think of the traditional posole soup you normally get in California or Mexico. The service as very slow. The waiter hardly checked on us and was hard to even flag down. On top of the slow service we had a manager with a handlebar mustache come berate us for being there more than 2 hours on a busy Saturday night and guilt tripped us for playing cards. We had only been at our table for an hour and a half. We were literally still eating dessert and didn't even have the bill yet, even if we wanted to leave. Then the manager comes back and says "wrong table, you're good" (DUH) but by that time we all had anxiety and didn't want to stay there anymore anyway. He didn't offer a discount or to comp the dessert he ruined, he didn't even apologize. Then he continued to peek over at our table for some reason. This was the worst experience I have ever had here. I brought my kids and my boyfriend on the train from Albuquerque to have a nice meal at a place they had never been and this is what they get to remember. And to top it off, the lobby wasn't even busy when we left. He was berating us for playing cards on a busy Saturday night and there were only a few people waiting. That's garbage. read more

Returning to Tomasitas in Santa Fe is a little bit like going home. The building is warm and inviting and the menu comfortingly familiar. This night, I got the Tuesday Atrisco plate special that included a perfectly fried chile relleno, a blue corn chicken and red chile enchilada, and a beef taco. The refried beans were creamy and even the rice (which lets admit it, who goes somewhere for the arroz?) was fluffy and fresh. The tipping point is the excellent margaritas coming out of the bar. Fresh lime instead of premixed sweet and sour is the key! Oh, and least we forget, the sopapillas that are the size of a catchers mit. We decided that going in the "off season" is the best plan. 10/3/2018: Walked a mile from our condo at Villas de Santa Fe to Tomasitas. Place is by the railroad station far from the old town plaza, where we ventured. Before entering the eating establishment, had to get by a sales presentation with vendors selling trinkets and souvenirs inside the doorway. Beautiful establishment, exceptional decor, and excellent food presentation. The chalupa came with meat covered with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and drenched with guacamole. The Tuesday blue special included with relleno in green chile, blue corn chicken enchilada served with red chile, and a beef taco with spanish rice and beans. Very distinct taste with the local chiles, and spicy hot just the way my wife likes it. Finished it off with the sopapillia covered with strawberry. Wife lived here 18 years before she met me, and had all that time to get used to spicy hot green chile in everything. This is one senior white lady who can handle the spiciest food, and who refuses to eat at Taco Bell! Would I come here again? Yes, but take the car instead of walking a mile next to a busy road. read more

The food here is delicious! I love that it comes with a variety of items - rice, beans, sauces, etc. My friend and I shared the flautas compuestas and Tuesday plate. Sopaipillas were also very yummy. Our server frequently checked up on us. Although we went on a weekday evening, it was still packed. I can't imagine how much more busy it is during the weekends. The setting in the old rail yard and next to the Santa Fe depot is perfect. Excellent zangy (yes I just made up that word) house margaritas. Yes they have froze s and all of the trendy flavors but the house is perfectly balanced, plenty of kick. Queso--yes only choices in SoCal have been better. Zippy and nice blend of cheeses. Main courses--absolutely love the carne avodado (misspelled, sorry). Just such tender pork and the red chili really complements the meat. Always go for the pinto beans here too. First time, I recommend the enchiladas trip--beef, chicken, cheese, giving you a good sample of how they prepare the meats. Also recommend the Christmas chili--combo of red chili and green chili. I'm not sure what the hype is about this place. I ordered to-go which i know will be different than seating in house yet still I'm wildly disappointed. I order two plates the super combo and a tamale combo, the chile relleño wasn't batter the soft taco was thrown in a paper bag and the food was cold. The combo plate had three inches of cheese and even after taking most of it off i still had trouble finding my food. We called the restaurant to see how to get a refund since this was obviously not worth our money, the manger on duty required us to send photos of proof of our food not being up to standard. He also refused to issue a full refund since the food "was going to be consumed". I promise you we will not eat this sh**. I sent the proof of our ugly cold plates and proof we threw them away. We are visiting Santa Fe for a week and Tomasita's was the first restaurant we stopped at after arriving. We came for a late-ish dinner, probably around 7:45pm and we waited about 40 minutes as a party of 6 to be seated. We ended up sitting in a back room which nobody else was seated in. It was actually really nice to have such a quiet place to eat and catch up with one another. Our server was Javier and he was AWESOME! He was super friendly and knowledgeable about everything on the menu and very patient with 6 of us trying to decide what we wanted to eat and drink. We all got different things and really enjoyed our food overall. It's a really big restaurant but I would be prepared to wait. Either way it's definitely worth the wait! read more

My son had a combo plate with possibly the entire kitchen on the plate. He said it was all great including the tamales. I would definitely recommend this place for great New Mexican food. One of the kids asked for a quesadilla with French Fries. It came missing the French Fries. We flagged down our waitress to notify her, as it was served by some man from the kitchen with an apron. I visited Santa Fe for the first time for a wedding. I had no real bearings for where was good or not but a friend just happened upon this place looking for lunch one day. We loved it so much. All the food was so delicious. My favorite was the tamales but everything was so so good and fresh. There was plenty of room to get a larger group of us in relatively quickly and it's definitely family friendly. The prices were also so reasonable and the portions were good. They happily seated me at a table and brought my pup water right away. It was a fine experience and the food was delicious. The chili relenos were spicy hot and tasty, the enchilada and tamale were tasty but not hot. They have a sign up for unsuspecting customers that state their Chili's are hot and they can't accept returns for the peppers being too hot, which I thought was clever and forthright of them! Worth the 60 minute wait to get a table! Four of us ate head and everyone was happy with their food. This was our first experience with New Mexican cuisine. I was told to get a burrito with carne adovada from a friend. I don't think realized how spicy this would be, so beware! My mother in law got the lighter plate and it gave plenty of food as well so that's another good option. We used the check in offer to get free chips and salsa. They also brought sopapillas to the table when dinner was served. I did Christmas style which is the green and red Chile sauce. I think if I went again I'd stick to the green. The food and the service is always delightful! I recently stopped by to grab a quick cocktail before my train ride southbound. The service was very quick even though they were slammed. I grabbed a seat at the bar and everyone was really nice. I ordered the grand margarita and it was delicious. Just the perfect libation before a long train ride home. It was crowded when we walked in around 7 but we were seated in 15-20 minutes. We enjoyed some very good margaritas while we waited. My wife and I got our usual standards. Cheese enchiladas and chile relleno with red sauce for her. Carne adovada for me. Both came with posole and pinto beans. All the food was excellent. As usual, we asked for our sopaipillas to be brought after we ate our entrees. A fresh, hot sopaipilla with honey is the best dessert! Service was very good and prices very reasonable. Tomasita's is a popular New Mexican restaurant on Guadalupe in the Railyard District. I made plans to meet a friend for lunch, and we were immediately seated at a comfortable table. The seating is spaced out with plenty of room for social distancing. This was my first dine-in restaurant experience since early March, and I was a little nervous. Have no fear! The friendly staff made me feel right at home. Just wear a mask when you're not eating and remember to wash your hands. Everything on the menu made my mouth water, so I split the difference and ordered the largest combination plate, Christmas-style (that means smothered in both red and green chile, if you didn't know). I sipped my refreshing iced tea and waited for the food. I was blown away. The chile relleno practically melted in my mouth. The tamale (huge!) had the perfect ratio of meat to corn. I adored the cheese enchilada, and of course, I got plenty of chile with each bite. I took my leftover rice, beans, and taco to go. Made for a delicious second meal later in the day. Being back home in Santa Fe always means getting my fill of New Mexican food, and I'm so grateful to Tomasita's for providing me with the ideal experience. read more

After an entire day of exploring Santa Fe, we ended up here due to the fantastic reviews. I put my number down, and they told me the wait would be around 45 minutes. 20 minutes in, I go to check the virtual queue, and they lost my number. After asking them about it, I find out that they accidentally deleted my position. Luckily, they knew what my spot was and added me right back. But that wasn't the end of the mediocre service. Once we got seated, it took what felt like years for them to finally come bring us some waters and take our order. It took another 30 minutes to get our food, which ended up being pretty meh. Everything was just fine, but the enchiladas were extremely dry. The meat inside was so dry and tough, you could barely even chew it. Otherwise the food was okay. Our waters were never refilled, no server came to even check on us. Then, we waited another 20 minutes to get our check. I had to physically get up and find a server to get our check. Honestly the service is unbelievably terrible, and the food was pretty mediocre. I would not recommend this to others. The okay food did not make up for the terrible service. read more

I was craving Mexican food while in Santa Fe. We went to Tomasita's after a recommendation from a local. What a disappointment. We started off with the chips and trio of guacamole, queso and salsa. The chips were thick and greasy. The guacamole was tasteless and under seasoned. The queso was ballpark cheese from a can!!! The salsa was underwhelming too. The chicken tacos were even worse. Chicken was chewy and so bland. It was as if they boiled the chicken in water without any seasoning and then shredded it and served it in a corn tortilla. I am not a person who adds extra salt to my food but this places doesn't use any seasoning. They also bragged about their watermelon margarita which were awful. The watermelon tasted old or on the verge of being spoiled. We left the majority of our food on the table. It was a costly lunch that was no more than a gut filler restaurant. read more
