I've been tom's crab shack last weekend and came back again with my friends tonite...it was not really busy on weekday. We arrived at around 7:30 and we were sat right away on booth as we want to be. We ordered combo#2 with 2 lb shrimp, 1 pc lobster tail and some sides(toms combo flavor and medium spicy) and that was definitely enough to 2 people to eat!! One thing I have to say that the sauce were soooo perfect to me and my friend. The staff was really friendly to ask us if the food were good and if we need to refill the drink. Stopped by concord expecting some bomb ass garlic shrimp and i was disappointed. The best way to describe the taste was Boiling Crab taste-but not as strong/salty as how Boiling Crab is. Boiling Crabs garlic shrimp sauce is so freaking disgusting and Toms Crab Shack is just slightly better. All in all- the food here is not spicy, not flavorful BUT!! Boiled bag of seafood is ok. It was just good enough to fix my crab cravings. 2 stars is for the thumbs down service. I ordered food for pick up. They said it would be ready in 25 mins. I got there in 45 mins, expecting a quick pick up. Not! Upon arrival, cashier said, "Oh, we're out of Dungeness crab!" Failure #1! They should have called me about it in advance so I could select something else. I decided not to get anything in lieu of, thinking I could grab my food and go. Not! Cashier said, "It's going to take 5 mins!" Failure #2! I waited 30 minutes! It should not have taken that long, given I was already past the pick up time. This is already more than 1 hour past when they said it would be ready. Failure #3... I asked for extra bibs and a table cover to take home. Cashier was like "$5.99!" What the what? For plastic and paper? Ripoff! Time is money! I hate being kept waiting, especially when I order pick up and expect to be in and out. Poor service and communication! Not coming back! read more

Never have I eaten at a crawfish place and given it this low of a star. I have also never eaten at a crawfish place where I didn't even eat the crawfish. It was that disgusting. The sauce was runny and did not mix well with the crawfish and shrimp. The reviews here are mixed but take it from me that has eaten crawfish from Sacramento all the way to New Orleans, this is the worst. Maybe they're having an off night? But i don't know.. There's other reviews that can agree. Their crawfish tasted old and didn't marinate well. Their shrimp was crusty. It was bad. The only good thing was their $5 wine which cost probably $5 to buy a jug ... But hey it's wine. Never ever going back. Please BEWARE. They need to reconstruct and go back to the drawing boards and try again. I decided to try Toms, I ordered crabs with corn and potatoes, cost me 40.00 which I didn't mind; however the food was cold all of it. I can't figure that out!!! If I can give this place zero stars I totally would. Our service was terrible. Our server wasn't familiar with the menu. It took about 10 minutes to get our drinks. There were a few tables nothing crazy. Food came out and she didn't say a word or could remember who ordered what. It wasn't really a big deal but she never came back. No refills or checking on us. She never brought the check either. Food wasn't worth the price. Expensive for really buttery food. We'll continue to go to Rockin Crawfish across the street. What can I say about Tom's that probably hasn't already been said? Let me think... Yeah I'm gonna be like everyone else and say something completely unoriginal like, 'Tom's Is hella good', their staff are almost always, well not almost, always, very friendly and accommodating on top of the service continually remaining solid. I guess If I had to be critical, which Is part of the reason for all this, I just wish these guys served freaking bread. The classic Tom's Crab shack dish is a boil of shrimp, crab or lobster tails with sausage or a combo of them all doused in a delicious seasoned boil which begs to be soaked up by handfuls of french bread, (which If you're eating here via take-out I would highly recommend you trying) especially If the Chef Is on his or her game when you go. Not to say this place is inconsistent, however there are nights where I've eaten here and the sauce is just bit better, or a slightly not as good as I remembered the last time I'd eaten there. Aside from those minor gripes, I'm gonna be a bit lazy and not try to be unique in my assessment of Tom's. It's just really good, and they let you write on some of their walls. I came to Toms in April earlier this year when I was visiting from out of town and at that time I would have given it 5 stars. It was amazing! So much so that when I was in town again, I was excited to come back. But last night was sub par at best. The service was terrible. We ordered in addition to the combo meal, crabs legs for a cost of $28.99/pound. The crab legs were bad. They had gone bad. It was not ok. And the seasoning was all oil. Poor customer service. The staff is lacking professionalism and any sort of customer service training. They did not take my sister's allergy seriously, the staff handled the situation very poorly by not informing us of how the potatoes were cooked until AFTER she had eaten them when I had specified of her allergies when ordering the food. The staff also talked about us after I had asked for a refund for the item and even laughed when ringing us up. Called at least five times afterwards to speak to a manager but no one picked up. I honestly don't know why this place has been getting negative reviews! IT'S AMAZING! My roommates and I are sooooo addicted to it. Being fans of Boiling Crab and Firehouse Crawfish in Sacramento, Tom's Crab Shack is the Bay Area replacement. The food is delicious and the staff is super sweet and attentive! Even when ordering to-go is not a hassle. Usually when I visit, I get the shrimp, Tom's combo, and spicy! It's so good, but does wonders afterwards! Usually when I get the shrimp I get the garlic noodles and pour the cajun mix on top. DELISH! I definitely recommend going here if you miss Boiling Crab and need that fix ASAP! Also, there's NO LONG WAIT! HEAVEN. Tasty Tip: Order rice or noodles and pour the cajun sauce mix on top. You're welcome. read more

We wanted to bring a large party on Mothers Day for lunch, so we called ahead but were told they do not take reservations. So on Mother's Day we arrived at 11:30 - no lights on, no activity in the place even though it would be opening at noon. About 11:45 three employees finally showed up. Our group was the first in the door, first to be seated. I will say, we were a party of 25 but that is why we arrived early. It took awhile for us to decide what we wanted to order, but even after coordinating amongst the 25 of us there was still no waitress in sight. We had to flag someone down. For a busy dining out day, the 3 wait staff on duty was pitifully inadequate. It took about 30 minutes for them to realize they had not put paper on our tables, and another 15 for them to bring our drinks. Meanwhile we were seeing tables around us getting food. We thought they were trying to bring our food out all together, so didn't complain right away. Fast forward to 1.5 hours after ordering, and we still don't have food! Several of our party asked the wait staff what was up but kept being told it's coming. One dish would randomly arrive, then another ten minutes later. Only when I went directly to the kitchen area and got very upset with the staff did they actually look into the problem. Turns out there was a problem with the submitting of the order! They blamed it on the register, but no one else seemed to have problems with their order so I have my doubts... Even after telling us the issue, we still saw food going out to other tables while we waited. The three kids at our table were extremely hungry and luckily the only one staff who was apologetic brought them some corn. In total, it took 2 hours from when we placed our order to get our food. When it arrives, several of our orders were not correct but we were too hungry to complain and too afraid a correction would take another 2 hours. The waiter who happened to take the order that "the register messed up" never once returned to our table to apologize. Not even when he was serving the tables right next to us. We were told we would get our drinks free and a discount, but when the bill came only half of our drinks were free and the discount was a measly 10%. For all the trouble we went through, and 5 moms whose Mother's Day were ruined, I would expect a manager to come out and apologize profusely and provide a larger discount or a coupon for return visit. We never saw a manager. Summary: Many signs of poor management and inexperience running a restaurant. Lack of staff on Mother's Day. No staff prepping prior to opening. Large party was not assigned an experienced waiter/waitress. Failure to adequately compensate for issues. Management did not come out to present apology. Orders were not correct. Food took too long to come out. Promised comp were not given. We went here because the drive to boiling crab is long, but trust me this place is not ready for prime time. You will end up spending just as long for lower quality food. You are going to end up waiting anyway. Might as well spend that time driving in the car towards some good food rather than tracking down your server at Tom's. Skip it. read more

Craved some Cajun type food and originally wanted to go to Rockin' Crawfish but decided to give this place a try. Place looked exactly like The Boiling Crab. Got seated instantly at 5pm on a Sunday. Ordered a pound of shrimp with Tom's sauce with half pound of sausage, garlic noodles, rice. Food came out extremely quick! The shrimp came in a bowl instead of inside a bag which I had thought. I could tell already that the sauce did not mix well with the shrimp and I was right. Not a lot of flavor for the shrimp. Had to ask for extra seasoning midway through the meal and BAM! That did the trick. It was tasty after that. The garlic noodles were a little tough but had good favor. Service was awesome. Definitely cheaper compared to the Rockin Crawfish. If I hadn't asked for the extra Cajun spicy to add to the bowl of shrimp, I would have given them 3/5, but thanks to their service I gave them 4/5. Would I go back? Yes. read more

Been here twice so far and I've been pretty satisfied. I always go for shrimp in Tom's seasoning, sausages, and garlic noodles. Not a bad deal if you go with friends. It's fun to eat but your fingers will smell like spices for the rest of the day. I will probably come back some time when I'm really craving it. This place is definitely worth it. The location hurts it more than helps it but that is why there's Yelp. Once you find it, you won't forget it. Good flavors. Shrimp is cooked perfect. Not over done and hard to peel. Sausages are good, all beef. Potatoes are cooked perfect, best if cut open and dipped in the sauce. Corn and rice are a must. Cajun fries were tasty, they had a kick. They need to add Lemon Pepper flavor. Fried good, not greasy cooked to perfection. Long fries too, not short small pieces. The Peach Tea was just right. No need for any sugar. I would get the bigger size instead of just ordering by the glass. No refills. It's too good. Makes you want more. I got 1lb of shrimp, potatoes, sausage. Tom's choice flavoring. Medium level of Spicy. It had a good kick. Cajun Fries. With a order of rice. Peach Tea as well. I will definitely be back for more. Fills you up and keeps you full. Walked in and took 5 minutes to get noticed. Once somebody finally acknowledged me, they asked what I needed. I said I would like a table. 10 minutes after I sit down, I still don't have a menu. Finally somebody comes over and asks if I got a menu, which I really no. I get the menu and 10 minutes later somebody takes my order. 30 minutes after that I still don't have the beverages so I just walked out. read more

So when I go to places like this my survival tactic at every place similar is to just order sausages, corn and potatoes in whatever sauce they offer with a side of rice. I'm not allergic to seafood, just don't like eating it. Every other place: Boiling Crab, Rockin' Crawfish, etc has no problem doing this. You are literally just tossing all the items in the sauce like a normal order, just without the seafood in it, but the waitress insisted they can't do that. Just had my first experience here. Overall, would probably return. As someone who is a huuuge boiling crab fan, I've been trying out other places to see how they compare. The environment is very similar as far as the look of the inside. It was super cold in there.. not sure if that's how cold it usually is but I went back to my car for a sweater lol. I ordered a lb of snow crab legs, toms combo, spicy. When I first received my bowl of crab, I had to send it back to be warmed up. The actual taste of the crab & the sauce was actually pretty good. The closest to boiling crabs sauce I've gotten so far. Only thing I could suggest is more garlic in the sauce. Other than that, it was actually pretty tasty. As far as the service goes, both servers were nice but very soft spoken. Maybe just shy? Again, would probably return.. just wish the people working there seemed a little more enthusiastic. read more
