Alongside the kare-kare, the bagoong (cooked shrimp paste) is equally important. I wouldn't even consider eating kare-kare without bagoong. If the bagoong is not up to par, the kare-kare is not as satisfying. This was my very first experience with Crispy Kare-Kare, and I am definitely planning to return to Almuchow to savor one of my favorite Filipino dishes again. Bagoong is an acquired taste. My husband dislikes its aroma and flavor, which is why he doesn't particularly enjoy kare-kare. The quality of the kare-kare is intrinsically linked to the bagoong. If the bagoong is not prepared correctly, it can diminish the entire dish. I am definitely looking forward to returning for their Crispy Kare-Kare!
