The fried chicken was very crispy and went well with rice. Top Cafe is a decent place for late night dining. They open until 3AM, so don't expect fine wining and dining. I'm all for fancy dinners, wine pairings, and pretentious portions every now and then. But I also appreciate those hole in the walls that give you QUANTITY for your hard earned dollars, and Top Cafe is one of those places! No frills Chinese diner that's open late and has a slew of items for around $8-10 each. It's hard to find affordable food that's a bang for your buck in this area. Great place to grab some late night eats, or bring the family to share a handful of plates. I like their noodle dishes like the beef and veggie chow fun in black bean sauce. I also thought their salted fish and chicken fried rice was decent. The BF loves getting the pork chop in onion sauce over rice (although I think it tastes a lot like a Salisbury steak flavor) and the salt and pepper spare ribs. Okay I'm hearing a lot of bad reviews about this place, and maybe I haven't been here enough (only twice) to actually know its true potential (apparently not good at all), I'm giving it 4 stars for the service both my friend and I received. My friend says he always goes here to eat when he's on a long lunch break from De Anza, and he brought me here to eat too, so there must be a reason why he still goes and why he brought me. Other than the printed menu and various specials on the wall, everything looks good on paper and that's where it all ends. Quality here is embarrassing, stir fried noodle dishes laden with grease, practically flavorless won tons and eggless flavored supposed egg noodles that had no bounce when chewed etc etc, yet eating here is relatively cheap/fast for those needing a fix but don't want to be caught dead in McDonalds or some other bad place. For the same price though, drive further to Newark at Venus and you'll have a MUCH better meal. Today I dropped by to get my iced milk tea to go. Both ladies and men's toilets were locked (very unusual). There were flies swimming fast in the air in plain view doing Blue Angels synchronized dancing to the HK TVB news casts being played on the two restaurant TVs while patrons munched and swallowed whatever they ordered as if those F-14s (F for FLIES) zoomed back and forth. So, it's kind of a greasy spoon Chinese restaurant. After a long day of work, I was really craving some comfort food. For me, that's a bowl of piping hot spicy noodle soup. Tops has a spicy beef noodle soup with big flat noodles. It totally hit the spot. I also tried the dining companion's lamb skewers and pan fried dumplings. All were delicious. If you don't want to read my review, I'll just say: I really, really, really do not recommend this place. I almost gave this place two stars because I like to be a nice person but I couldn't find a reason to, so it's stuck with just one star. I remember coming here a few years ago for a casual lunch with some friends. Back then, it was okay. The food was actually decent and the service was average. My dad and I had nowhere to eat tonight so I thought of Top Cafe because it is nearby and affordable. As soon as we entered, we were ushered to a dusty looking table in the corner by an impatient waiter and were given a set of menus. He returned a few minutes later to slam two glassfuls of water on the table, then left. While I was looking at my menu, I couldn't help but notice that there were many flies buzzing around the table, resting on the windowsill, and crawling near the table. I thought that was just straight up disgusting, but I still ordered anyways. We were given plenty of time to decide. I got #15 in the "noodle soup" category--beef stew and wonton noodle soup for $6.35. My dad ordered a rice dish with beef and bok choy. After we ordered, the unfriendly waiter came by again and this time gave us one spoon, one fork, one soup spoon, and one pair of chopsticks. What...? I'm sure he knows that there were two of us... My dad's dish came maybe 3 minutes after we ordered. We thought that was a little shady because it was a little too fast for it to have been freshly cooked. Because his came so fast, I was expecting mine to come soon after...but no. I eagerly waited a minute or two...nope. I waited five minutes...nope. Ten minutes...still nope! The waiter was even bringing out food to the table next to us who had come in before us. I finally got my food about thirteen minutes (yes, I timed it) after my dad did. Because we only had one set of utensils, we had to ask our waiter for another set, and he took a few sweet minutes to come back with one pair of chopsticks. After waiting for so long, I actually expected the food to be good. As you can predict by now...nope. The beef was stringy and dry, even though it was submerged in soup. It was really chewy in the way that you want your meat to not be chewy. The noodles were obviously carelessly cooked and there were at least three huge chunks (or tangles, if you will) of the strangely dry even-though-it-was-in-soup noodles. They were pretty flavorless as well. The shrimp wontons were okay. A little bland but the shrimp was at least tender, and the wonton wrap was nicely cooked and not too soggy and wasn't falling apart! If you've ever had soggy wontons, you'd know what I mean. The three or four wontons weren't enough to save Top Cafe an extra star, though. I also forgot to mention...you know how a bowl of noodle soup usually comes with a plate underneath it? Halfway through eating, I found half of a clothespin that was clearly cooked with my food on that plate. What...where did this come from again and how did it get on my plate? That is just nasty. Never coming back to this place! Even my dad, who is the least pickiest eater I know, swore to never come back to such a place. This restaurant is really pretty dirty. It's not uncommon to see flies here. (Edit: They have a bug zapper now. Still gross, but it helps. When they turn it on.) The food is all right. The Hong Kong style fried noodles are pretty good (#39 satay beef, or there's a few others like beef stew, etc). Drowned in sauce though, and really pretty greasy/oily. The #39 has cubed beef, pineapple, and lightly cooked onion (too much onion really). Some of the menu items should definitely be avoided, because apparently they have no idea how to prepare them. I ordered a root beer float and received a Sprite float with ice cubes in it. Ice cubes? Complete and utter failure. The prices are great; this is really Top's strong suit. The fried noodle dishes above are just $7 (+tip). Service is so-so. The waiters are timely, but you need to ask for the check or go up to pay. Foods are not brought all at once, which is pretty lame if you're not eating alone. It's one of the few places open late at night in the Cupertino area. Top cafe is my kind of place. It's cheap, dirty, and fun. I eat here late at night after completely inebriating myself. The service here isn't too bad. The waiter always comes around with water because he knows we need it. Once our waiter actually played cards with us while on the clock. It's normal asian food that tastes even better when you're intoxicated. Here's a list that you will thank me for later: 1.) Beef egg over rice. Looks like mush, tastes amazing. 2.) So that's all the good news I guess. I know this is America but if you're in a hardcore Asian restaurant you can't expect 5 star America customer service. I would pull off whatever I can with my Asian look though I'm a coconut: I would gather all orders myself for my table walk up to the cashier and place my orders. Honestly, there are only two things you should ever EVER order from Top Cafe. There are so many better places that are like within 10 minutes of Top Cafe to get awesome Chinese food. The two things are: #39 (also known as Satay Beef Pan Fried Noodle..i think) House Special Fried Rice My friends and I always seem to stumble back to Top Cafe no matter what kind of mental state we are in and let me tell you, nothing fulfills your late night hunger better than these two. #39 will hit the spot if you want crispy noodles. It has beef, peppers, pineapples and is covered delicious mystery sauce. House Special Fried Rice is for those with rice dish cravings. It has ground beef with eggs and Chinese pickled cabbage. Put a little sriracha sauce and this plate is golden. Props to the waiter who works there 7 days a week until 3 am. This place is seriously open like 365 days a year. I've seriously been here on Thanksgiving night. Now that I think about it, the place was even open on Labor Day!! WTF! The restaurant is staffed by fucking work-aholics. Props to you guys. I have eaten the worst COVID 19 takeout meal ever! The pleasure of this meal comes from Top Cafe (what a misnomer!). We ordered 3 dishes, chow fun and potstickers. OMG! This was the worst!!! We ordered Kung Pow chicken which really should have been Kung Pow Celery with chicken garnishment and a few peanuts. Absolutely tasteless. We also ordered the sweet and sour pork which was the toughest most thinly sliced fried pork bathed in sugar and red food coloring. Really the worst pork chop dish I ever had. We also got sliced pork with celery and bean curd. This was total larceny as it was slice pork belly sautéed with celery. The pork was so tough and chewy while the quantity of the celery was the usual - plentiful in this dish. They must have forgotten the bean curd (or maybe the bean curd fairy intercepted this between the wok and the takeout package). The chow fun with beef and black bean sauce was devoid of any taste and just seemed to sit there in flavorless saucy slop. Finally the pot stickers were a total rip. It was literally 6 fried Ling Ling brand potstickers disguised as their homemade ones. Either way, this was the ultimate fail. To top everything off, someone must be allergic to air conditioning as it was not turned on when the outside was 90 degrees and the inside must have been close to 100 degrees. Maybe the poor employees thought they worked in a sauna that doubles as crappy food stall! Please do yourself a favor and go to a real sauna and definitely don't come here to eat! The food here is decent and comes out quick. One bummer is that it's cash only. I like most of the things on the menu, although sticking to "chef's specials" and staying away from Americanized or 'European' dishes would be advised. A friend and I got chicken wings once, and let's say we'll stick with KFC. Anyway - this place gets MAJOR bonus points for being the only place open late in Cupertino. Any time after friends are done with a bar or club, this is the rendezvous point if we're not feeling up to driving out to Carrow's. It's major sad points on Cupertino for having a complete lack of places to go past midnight, but it's understandable given the general demographic of the city. 3 stars! read more

It's dirty, the service is shoddy, and it's mad greasy. However, it's also really good for late night snacks. We like to come here for junk food late at night, and I love the Satay Beef HK style fried noodles. Sure there are flies (when they forget to turn on the zapper, which is in itself quite disconcerting) and the tables are sticky, but for $7 you get some nice comfort food at a place that is close to home and open late. 3.0 read more
