I am shocked that I've never been to this place after working nearby for 1 year. It is like a mom n pop style Hawaiian/Indonesian restaurant. We came around 1150 and it was super crowded already. I got their kalua pork + BBQ chicken combo with sides of mac n cheese + salad. Kalua pork was smoky and moist. Chicken was super tender and juicy. I love the charcoal taste if BBQ chicken and the sauce was not overpowering the taste of chicken. I totally killed these meats in minutes. Mac n cheese salad was great and creamy. My coworkers also seem to enjoy their food. I want to try their Indonesian food next time. Make sure to come earlier to avoid the rush hour. People came after us had to wait 25 minutes for spam musubi! You know how fresh the food is by the waiting time. read more

I've been looking at this restaurant for the longest time, given its Hawaiian and Indonesian selection, and I was curious to see how it would taste. With the recent closing of Aloha Food Factory in particular, I've been trying to find other Hawaiian options. I ended up ordering a loco moco and a seafood combo with barbecue chicken. My friend ordered crab rangoon and barbecue chicken musubi. Overall, the food was solid. The loco moco was ok, I think they may have used a store bought burger patty. The crab rangoon had a strong garlic flavor, in a good way. The seafood combo was ok, but I think the serving size was a bit small and I tend to get more food when I order from Ono Hawaiian BBBQ. The barbecue chicken musubi was fairly standard, essentially it was teriyaki chicken musubi. It was still good, but nothing particularly stand out. read more

Solid Hawaiian offerings in Pasadena. Storefront isn't much, but it's what's inside that counts. We had the katsu, the kalua pork, lots of rice and macaroni salad. The katsu was great, well seasoned and crispy. Only thing that would have made it better is a bigger helping of sauce. The folks running Top were super kind and welcoming, truly a family run outfit. Wow!! The crispy fried chicken was absolutely delicious!!!!! My husband and I looooooveeee fried chicken and here, the meat was tender and the crisps were SOOOO good!!!! What the actual heck is going on with this place lately? Last time I came they messed up my order (new guy behind the counter). The lady that usually works is always amazing but they hired I think a new person or someone I've only seen recently and this guy needs to get it together. I called and ordered chicken katsu with double Mac salad. I was told I couldn't get double cuz they were sold out. I asked if they had Mac salad enough for the plate and he said yes but I can only give you one scoop. Okay you're rationing I get that. Then I ordered noodles and ask if they have a chicken combination with shrimp. He said I don't think so and goes to ask someone. I hear him ask and he forces me to order the combo that has beef. But I don't want beef...so why can't you just do chicken and shrimp and cut the beef which is objectively a better deal for them? Lastly I order a side of gravy. He says we don't have gravy. I say you sell loco moco correct? He says yes. I said can I get a side of that sauce. He says...we don't do that. Like buddy. I'm giving you money. Give me a side of sauce. I'm not asking for it for free. I finally got so frustrated I said "I'm gonna go someplace else thank you" he says thank you and I hang up. THEN HE CALLS ME BACK TO TELL ME MY ORDER IS READY LIKE BRO WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! I love this place it's usually great. It has its faults but overall the food is good but I can't even imagine that this is not happening to tons of other customers and it mostly makes me sad for the owner. We got the indo fried rice and the spam musubi. The fired rice comes with pieces of chicken , some shredded chow mein noodles blended with rice and a egg. The rice tasted sweet instead of salty which was different. The spam musubi was packed with flavor. Looking forward to try other items on the menu! read more

Came Friday around 1:30pm and it was pretty empty. Ordered the chicken and pork and the chicken and Katsu. Got one sauce each for each plate (they make you pay for additional sauce) I would think there would be different sauces for different meats but I didn't get that. Macaroni salad is over cooked and too soft, and the meats are pretty bland. Not much flavor to it if you don't add any sauce. Rice was really wet and sticky and just didn't taste good. If you want some thing fast and good price this is the place. I always order musubi here, The pricing is really decent compared to the amount of food they gave. They are also really nice every time when I call for a takeout food. They don't have a table inside so this is not the dining place but you always can order to go because the food they made really fast around 15 minutes. I have been wanting to try this place for months and I'm so glad I did! I'll walk through what I got. I ordered a mini chicken katsu plate, a beef rendang, and a bbq chicken plate. My favorite item was definitely the beef rendang. The curry sauce is rich, flavorful, and a bit spicy. The beef is soft and fatty and it just melts in your mouth. Definitely the star of the evening. The chicken katsu was also excellent, the mini plate came with rice and Hawaiian Mac. Not a big of Hawaiian Mac anyways so it didn't stand out much to me. Having grown up in Hawaii, I have been in love with this place since I found it. Sure, it's a total hole-in-the-wall, but the plate lunches are truly Hawaiian style. Conveniently located near Caltech, it was a go-to lunch place at least once a week before the pandemic. The few tables that used to be set up are still set over to the side, but now that things are opening up again, I will bike up there from home and pick up a to-go order. Totally *WORTH IT*! The portions are adequate for a Hawaii raised local boy (by which I mean they are very generous!) and the prices are good. There isn't an item on the menu that I haven't liked. I usually get the seafood combo with Katsu Chicken. It never fails me. The tastes are delicious. When I'm feeling the need for some serious comfort food I'll get a Loco Moco or a Spam Moco. What value and the food is tasty . It's not fast. They prepare to order and it's a mom and pop place. If you can get through the phone , do so. Or you'll wait 30-45 minutes if you walk in. They have fried chicken,Hawaiian b.b.q and other menus. Even ox tail soups. Thier fried chicken was really delicious!! It was bomb!! The crust was not too thick and pleasantly crunch. It was like fried chicken coated with chips. Also, it was flavorful. The chicken was very hot, so I was using wooden chopsticks to eat it. It makes your fork malt, so, becareful. Just use your chopsticks as your forks. Lol Also, they give you a little container of sauce for your chicken. That is something. That's sweet and a salty. Somewhat like sweet soy sauce and it has citrusy and lemon grass like fragrant in it. It reminded me thai food fragrant in a good way. It was good with the chicken. But mostly, I had that with my loco moco later on. Because the fresh chicken didn't even need any sauce.. It was so good. The loco moco was ok. I don't think I am not a real fan of loco moco. Styrofoam is cheap. But styrofoam is TERRIBLE for our environment and I find it irresponsible for businesses to practice this way. Paper is an affordable solution! I understand that many places still use styrofoam for to go boxes, let's find better solutions for that too. I've eaten at numerous Hawaiian bbq places, and no other spot can do food like Top Restaurant. This place is my go-to and also very affordable! The owner is sweet and remembers all her regulars. The restaurant is a decent size, with about 7 tables, more or less. I found out about this place because I was craving Hawaiian bbq after class at PCC, and this was the first place that popped up. I have been coming here ever since. Usually I order a Regular BBQ Chicken plate, which comes with a whole lot of bbq chicken, 2 scoops of rice, a scoop of mac salad, and some greens. If I'm starving I usually add 2 Chicken Katsu Musubis, which is rice and chicken katsu wrapped in seaweed. The rice is well made, the mac salad has just the right amount of sweetness and gooey-ness. The bbq chicken is always moist and the bed of greens, which absorbs the oils from the chicken, adds a great crispness to the meal. The chicken katsu here is unlike any other place I have ever been to. Trust me, I've gone to many Hawaiian bbq restaurants trying to find chicken katsu remotely like how they serve it here, and I have not found anything. The crust of the chicken katsu is so crunchy and stable, while the chicken inside remains perfectly moist and juicy. I'm not sure what they use or how they cook it, but they're definitely doing it right! The musubis are also a great size for the price. When I'm on a tight budget, 3 musubis could fill me up easily. There is a lot for parking here, but at peak hours it can be difficult to find parking because they share with other businesses in the lot. There is a $10 minimum for card, so be sure to have cash if you want something small. read more

I'm giving this 5 stars as a small mom/pop shop in a strip mall in Pasadena. They have really flavorful food and the people who work here are all really kind and helpful. It is really small, but there were a few people using the small tables and sitting solo to dine-in. The food is, of course, best eaten FRESH out of their styrofoam (!!!) containers and steaming hot! The girl at the counter seemed really new. She kept referring to the menu to check prices and make sure she was hitting right buttons on her screen, but I assume the people in the kitchen speak Indonesian (??) (Because it's an Indonesian restaurant and they definitely weren't speaking Chinese) and she was speaking in their native language with them to ask questions that I had about their menu items. The spring rolls carried out pretty crispy and super hot even after a 10-12 minute drive home. Win. I was actually really happy with the Mini Chicken Teriyaki Chicken order that comes with Mac salad and rice. The chicken was surprisingly juicy and very tender. Too many places selling their versions of teriyaki chicken comes out WAY too dry and stringy, but not here today! Hope they are consistent... Their Veg Fried Rice is in Indonesian style, not Chinese. It is not a predominantly bland yet semi-soy flavor like many hole-in-the-wall Chinese spots. It was spiced, but not spicy, and mellow (good for kids) and went would go really well as a starch accompaniment to any other proteins or veg. My favorite of my order today was their Indonesian (fried) vermicelli noodles with chicken. I don't think I would opt for chicken in this one next time, but the noodles were excellent. Very flavorful, lots of good textures, lots of vegetables for crunch, and it carries very well the next day. I love that this place is on my route goin home from work to my new home. This place is fantastic- I tried Top Restaurant before and I wasn't expecting to eat it again today, but my initial plans had derailed and we found ourselves at this familiar spot. But oh boy, one bite and I loved it just as much as I did when I first tried it! We started things off with Spam Musubi, which was incredibly solid and the perfect appetizer. Then, my girlfriend and I shared a Chicken Katsu plate and Indonesian Fried Rice- both of which are astounding. The Katsu has a wonderful crisp and is accompanied by some wonderful sauces. The Indonesian Fried Rice- man it is one of the best fried rices I've had. The flavor is full and not overwhelming, with chunks of tasty chicken hiding in each spoonful. And then the egg- they top it off with a lovely, fried, still oozing egg, and it just brings it all together. It's gonna take a bit to pry me away from these dishes as my regulars, but I've got to try everything else on their menu- and you should too! read more

The food here is so delicious! I ordered the Indonesian fried rice, and the BBQ chicken and kalua pork combo, which came with rice, lime and a scoop of mac salad. I especially loved the fried rice, which was savory sweet, in the way that Pad See Ew is savory sweet, and I like that so much. Interestingly, the fried rice had some short pieces of cup noodle-like noodles. It also came with chicken. The combo plate was also vert flavorful - the chicken was tender and moist, and the kalua tasted exactly as kalua should. The mac salad was a little warm being next to the others, but still yummy. One note is that they currently do not have their tables and chairs set up, so it's take-out only. There isn't much else in the plaza, but the wait was about 10-15 minutes, so it wasn't bad. I really liked how this place has both Indonesian and Hawaiian food, and to my tastebuds, they do both well. For the large quantity of food and how filling it is - my total was $23.90 for two filled boxes, this was very worth it. I would absolutely come back and try more of their menu. read more

Local family owned, this spot is a little hole in the wall with extremely limited parking as it shares a parking lot with about 15 other businesses. I'd have to say that stopping by here to grab a BBQ beef bowl was definitely a treat. Juicy, flavorful, and worth every penny. My girlfriend's macaroni salad and spam musubi were just as tasty, if not more! It's located in the back of the kitchen. Credit Cards: Accepted! $10 minimum! Less than $10, pay the surcharge of $.50. Location/Parking: Located in a plaza that is near the major cross streets of Colorado Blvd. and Allen. Parking can be a bit tight. I would suggest to park along Colorado Blvd or Allen St Ambiance/Decor: Limited amount of seating. You might feel like a sardine in a can depending on the time of hour you visit. So plan accordingly! Service: Great service! Lilly was very friendly, attentive, and offered great advice. Food came out a bit slow, because I ordered the crispy fried chicken and bbq chicken masubi. My order took about 15 minutes to get to my table. Food: Ordered two items: 1) Crispy Fried Chicken: You must get the CRISPY FRIED CHICKEN! It is worth the wait! Either get it the 6 piece or get the 4 piece with two scoops of rice. It is finger licking mmmmm mmmmm gooood! I ended up getting the 2nd option so I could make a chicken rice plate. The chicken was lightly battered, skin was crispy, and the chicken was juicy and tender. Some of the meat literally fell off the bone. Reminded me of a watered version of Tokyo Fried Chicken Co. Still relatively YUM! :) Tip Tip Hoooray: Make sure you dip the chicken with their signature sauce. Tastes like a mixture of teriyaki and chili sauce! Dropped by with a friend who highly recommended the place ! We got the crispy fried chicken and fried egg noodle with vegetable. (Chicken was SO crispy, highly highly recommend) The prices are reasonable, if not a steal!, and the portions are huge. Would really recommend for upcoming family get together etc, to grab tasty, homey dishes. The lady at the register was very warm and friendly, it felt like a great experience beginning to end. I tried to call and their phone line was busy so I bit the bullet and ordered in store. I got the indo fried egg noodle with chicken and a spicy shrimp fried rice. The indo fried egg noodle is good and has a nice indo soy sauce flavor. Chicken was tender and not over cooked. My only complaint is they use buffet type noodles, which isn't bad, but I wish they would home make their noodles. It would be another level if they home made their noodles. The fried rice on the other hand was actually spicy, tons of flavor, and shrimp was crunchy. Shrimp wasn't over cooked at all and did not have a mushy texture. Although I haven't eaten at this place in a long while before COVID, this place was one of my favorite places to have lunch at when I was a student at PCC! Their chicken katsu is arguably the best I've ever had. Breading to chicken ratio is absolutely spot-on. Their macaroni salad is definitely one of my favorites too from the texture to the perfect amount of dressing in it. Their crab rangoons are THICC as hell and are super generous with the filling.
