The only reason we tried this place was because we had no reservations at Javier's and we wanted to get a quick bite. Javier's was full, the bar had no seats, and had over an hour wait so we were pleased that there were lots of open tables here instead. Upon walking in, there wasn't really someone in charge in the front and we had to flag someone down with our eyes. Once we got seated our wait staff was very attentive. We ordered wine, beet salad, fried calamari, and buffalo mozzarella to start. The wine was great and the food tasted fine. The dishes seemed to be outdated. The beet salad had many mixed greens just thrown about and the beets and goat cheese were hidden underneath. The beets weren't cold either, they were rather room temp and mushy. The mozzarella was on top of green beans which felt odd but were fresh nonetheless and you can't go wrong with veggies and quality olive oil. Fried calamari was good too, it just had really big chunks of calamari and had ladle like sauce container which I didn't prefer as I would have like to dip my calamari in. We decided to order black truffle risotto as our last dine in meal and a tiramisu to go. Sadly the risotto was undercooked and was too ricey -- had too much of a bite to it. We ended up not finishing it. The tiramisu was delish but again was enjoyed at home. Ambiance was decent, it is giving run of the mill italian restaurants. There were definitely loud rambunctious italians working there and we overheard some of them fighting over who was gonna go on break. All in all a decent experience but we likely won't be going back. If you're in a pinch and need good food I would go to Del Frisco's. read more

I'm not sure why the reviews are mediocre here, the food is AMAZING and tastes authentic. I had the Bufala E Pomodoro, Risotto Funghi, and Panna Cotta, and all three of them were really good. The risotto is super filling and has a great flavor. Also went there by myself, and occasionally have had a bad experience with waitstaff being a little judgemental about dining alone in a nice restaurant. Absolutely not the case here - they were super nice and attentive and made the meal feel special. Plus the ambiance is great! The pasta was tasteless, and the calamari, zucchini and calamari all had the appearance of having been taken from a freezer bag and and deep fried. A true touch of heaven in a crazy world. The food was excellent and our server José elevated it to yet another level! The fried calamari with zucchini sticks were pillowy light, lacking only a pinch of salt right out of the fryer. The insalata tricolore was fresh and perfectly dressed. We opted for the risotto di mare which exalted the true flavors of the sea. Both dishes were split perfectly for us and brought out at perfect intervals. The management and the employees are very unprofessional and dismissive when it came to the situation I encountered. I was dining in and I sneezed a couple times due to putting pepper on my pizza. And it caused me to sneeze. As I began to sneeze, of course I covered my mouth and nose, as it's common decency. The person behind me a middled aged ridiculous white women began to make remarks about my sneezing, got up and said " I need to get out of here before I get sick I don't know why they let these type of people in" making racist remarks. I'm a Hispanic guy with white colored skin. She felt it was necessary to make those types of remarks because she heard me speaking Spanish to my wife. So after she got up from her seat she went to the hostess and started pointing at the table where I was sitting down and started saying nonsense about my sneezing. Then the hostess began to give us dirty looks. The racist ridiculous lady left and the manger walked by and gave us dirty looks at all. We finished our food and left with no one coming to us to ask us our side of the story nothing. I came here for my bday dinner, because it was in the weekend it was incredibly crowded . My only negative comment is that they are very unorganized when it comes to their walk ins. Totally understand it was a busy night, but they had us standing around without taking our name down. The hostess said she was going to check with the manager, didn't want to quote a wait time but after waiting over 45 minutes and asking her multiple times she said they were arranging more seats She said, "stick around" we waited a little bit over one hour. The hostess was nice don't get me wrong but it seems like a big mess because many people are just standing around it seems like a big crowd. I didn't really understand if they were skipping us and sitting other people, if it was senior priority or if all of the parties that were being seated before me had reservations. Consider going during the week or making reservations. Besides that I really enjoyed the food. I don't understand all the one-star reviews. I love this place! The food, ambiance, and service are all wonderful. This is the kind of place you go to if you want to slowly savor your meal. They were quick with the wine and appetizer, but gave us time to enjoy our main course. The waiters here are very professional and friendly. I've enjoyed everything I ordered here. The risotto funghi was very flavorful and delicious. We came here for dinner recently and I ordered a homemade tagliolini dish from their special menu. It had lobster and cherry tomatoes with marinara sauce. The presentation of the dish pleasantly surprised us. It had half a lobster on top. The other half of the lobster meat was mixed into the pasta. It felt like a very indulgent meal. They have a good selection of desserts on their dessert menu, along with a wonderful selection of dessert alcohol. We ordered the tiramisu which I paired with a glass of disaronno. The sweet almond flavor of the liqueur went great with the sweet dessert. This is our go-to spot when we're shopping at the mall. We recently had the worst restaurant experience that I can remember. We had been frequenting this restaurant for years. We had not been to this restaurant in a few months due to the hectic, holiday season at the mall. When we arrived back toward the end of January, our usual, waiter was not available. Our waiter took the order, and I ordered a dish that I had been ordering for years. I liked to exchange one or two of the vegetables on the dish. We always offer to pay extra if we have a change. The waiter seemed confused about my request, and subsequently, a man who probably was the manager came to our table. He was angry and confronted me with my request and said that the restaurant has never done this. I told him that I had ordered this dish many times over the years and he said he didn't remember me. He accused me of lying that I had ever been there before and ordered this dish. He was insulting, hostile, angry, and ordered me to pick something else on the menu. After he stormed away, we left. Recently, my husband and a friend and I went to a different local Italian restaurant and had the absolute best experience. The manager and wait staff were kind, flexible, helpful, and accommodating. FRAUD ALERT! Came to LA to watch my sister try on wedding dresses and my family and I decided to come here to eat. We thought it was nice and the atmosphere was inviting. However, after ordering, our food was either bland or too salty. Which is a bit disappointing because it's quite pricey. Here's the big thing that has caused me to leave this review. After several hours of driving back home, we realized that our bill wasn't even our bill! We looked at the charges, and we were charged for items that weren't even ours. Our items weren't even on the bill. I'll include the photo, but there were 5 of us, and we were the first customers they dined, so I'm not sure how they could have messed that up. Ambience was OK. Service was a disappointment. I finished a beer before ordering and no one came again to ask if maybe I might want another one. So no beer for me from when we sat until we paid. Same thing happened with my wife who asked the severer for another drink and he literally brought at the end of the service and said sorry. We were done eating at that time. We ordered two Lobster pastas. Turns out on the menu it says lobster but it is really Langoustine. I am pretty sure that CA law says you can't do that. But they say on their menu that it is lobster when they know it is not. I am 100% for good food and good service. I will pay whatever it is for that. First time coming and I must admit I was concerned based on many others' mediocre reviews. My concerns quickly disappeared upon arrival. All aspects of the dinner were well above average, if not excellent. Service - Excellent. The staff worked together very well as a team to make sure everyone's food was served properly, waters were always filled, plates were cleared, and any requests were quickly addressed. The waiter was similarly helpful in his food suggestions and had a pleasant attitude. Food - Excellent. We had 10 people at our table and I heard no complaints. Dishes included the tagliatelle with boar ragu, risotto di mare, penne with pink sauce (off menu), grilled salmon, chicken parmigiana, margherita pizza, and a "special" pasta with veal and porcini mushrooms. Portions were substantial. Dessert was epic - the highlight was a "special" dark chocolate torte that was served warm with vanilla gelato and fresh strawberries, which the host/GM recommended. Seriously one of the best deserts I've ever had anywhere. No exaggeration. I head the chocolate souffle was "just ok". They did miss serving one of the desserts, and by the time my daughter spoke up, everyone was done. They did not charge for it on the bill, so not sure what happened. Price - As other have stated, I did feel the price was on the high side. It is what it is. I did feel you got value for the money though, if that makes sense.
