Per a friends recommendation I stopped by totowah for a quick dinner. The service was standard with a well lit interior that reflected a typical Korean eatery. Metal chopsticks and spoons with quaint little lights and nice tables, the ambiance was nice! The food was definitely the star though. The cheese buldak wasn't too spicy, and a bit sweet which was great for my palate because I'm not tooo good at spicy. the crab fried rice was unfortunately imitation meat but it was still delicious! I paid $5 extra for some jjajang sauce on the side and they gave me a huge portion of fresh sauce, so I took over half of it home. the kim mari and fried dumplings were delicious. my friend loved his bibimguksu (bit sweet side). we couldn't finish the soondooboo but they had generous portions of seafood including squid in there. the only meh one was the soondae because it was way over cooked. seasoning was there but just not the right texture! i'd definitely come back and take friends here! great bang for your buck :) read more

Pretty decent food. We came here for a quick lunch and was not disappointed. Prices were decent and the portions was pretty generous. The inside was spacious and clean. We had the fried chicken with scallion and that was better than expected. It was made with tender pieces of white meat chicken and served with a sweet and spicy sauce and honey mustard. I'm so happy I came here and hope to come back soon. It was my first time trying the kimchi cheese pork cutlet and they really don't skimp out on the size haha. The portion was huge and that one dish could easily fill two people. The spicy rice cakes with ramen was good too, but that in itself is a pretty simple dish and hard to mess up. Will go again - This review may be far overdue...Totowah is one of my favorite Korean restaurants. The reason being that there are a number of options to choose from that is definitely above average quality. One of the most famous is their donkatsu: Korean fried pork cutlet with gravy. There's also an option with cheese, which I order everytime. However, the no cheese is excellent as well. Make sure to ask for the gravy on the side. What can I say, their donkatsu is very crunchy (probably double fried like Korean fried chicken), sweet and savory with that gravy sauce. Because of being fried, the pork cutlet is very juicy and makes your mouth water with every bite. The gravy is thick yet liquid enough that it pours smoothly out of the metal genie-looking bottle, if you order it on the side. Among other great options are the bibim mandu, cream donkatsu, jjampong, and many more. It is tough to choose a bad item here. But if you do...that's your fault lol. Stick to the popular dishes. For COVID times, unfortunately, there is no outdoor dining. They have dine in with tables separated by a plastic covering, similar to many other restaurants these days. The interior has a casual ambience with almost wodden everything from tables to benches on one side. Nonetheless, it is clean and seems to be managed well. They have a very extensive menu of all kinds Korean dishes you could think of. Definitely triggered my decision paralysis lol Tried the C17. Beef Japchae Over Rice ( ) - Pan Fried rice with stir fried vermicelli noodles, vegetables & beef - it's basically carb on carb on carb! Love coming here. Never change Totowah, never change! Totowa means "come, again, again" in korean. Definitely the restaurant lives up to its name because I find myself coming here frequently. The restaurant is very child friendly. The menu contains lots of foods that picky eaters will accept, and there are several "lunchbox" style dishes that korean children grew up eating on school field trips. It's nostalgic for adults and familiar for kids. Furthermore there is an ice cream freezer with complementary self serve ice cream or sherbet taste a reward for finishing your food. The freezer was broken last time I went but hopefully it can be repaired soon. Totowa is also a great social hangout spot for young adults. There's a lot of entrees that can be shared family style on a large platter. You can have friendly conversations over large plates of spicy rice cakes and other indulgent comfort foods. Ive been here way back in the days maybe couple years ago, and also ordered through ubereats couple times. I visited this restaurant yesterday after couple years and when i went was after lunch hours so it was very empty. I ordered spicy seafood tomato pasta with hamburger meat, regular spicy rice cake, and donkatsu. Everything was a big portion so it is perfect for groups to share. Seafood pasta was so delicious with cheese melted on top but the spiciness and cheese went well together so it wouldnt taste too cheesy. The burger meat went well with the pasta with enough flavor of tomato sauce. I would totally recommend it if you love pasta but in Korean style pasta! Spicy rice cake was a big portion however it felt little too watery and less flavorful. There were lot of rice cakes but not enough of fish cake because i think i only saw two. I also got the regular donkatsu. Donkatsu is a breaded, deep fried pork cutlet with a special sauce that tastes sweet, tangy,and sour. They gave us two huge piece of the cutlet and they were about the size of my hand. It was huge and thin but i wish they cut them before it was served. Other than that donkatsu is a must and its never a wrong choice when it comes to donkatsu. The people that works here are super nice and friendly. I've been dining at Totowah for the past ~15 years (since they were at their old location) and it's always been a great spot to grab tasty korean food with friends. The portions are huge, food is delicious, and I've never had a bad experience here. My usual orders include: / (Donkatsu / Chicken Katsu) - Two massive breaded cutlets drenched in a flavorful sauce. Served with rice and a number of side additions (e.g. macaroni salad, greens, mashed potatoes, etc) that seem to change every few months. (Omelet Rice) - Fried rice wrapped in a thin egg omelet and drizzled with ketchup. (Rabokki) - Their ddukbokki, but served with ramen noodles mixed into the sauce. Must order at every visit. (Kim Mal Yi) - Fried noodles wrapped in seaweed laver. (Seafood Cream Spaghetti) - This is my dark horse menu item; it's not something you'd expect at a korean restaurant, but it's one of my favorite pasta dishes. Tip: if you order (Rabokki) or any other spicy rice cake dish, make sure to order (assorted tempura) or (Kim Mal Yi) on the side to dip into the ddukbokki sauce! Service is fast and friendly. Pretty surprising this place has been around for awhile. I thought they were known for their big tonkatsu. Well, they were able to make their katsu big by hammering it so hard making it extremely thin, barely had any meat, and the sauce was made with ketchup or something, it was so sour and weird. I had to ask for a regular ketchup as my sauce which was so much better than their weird sauce. The side mac in mayo and mini corn dog were soOOOooo salty I couldn't eat them. When the tonkatsu became cold, it even got worse. The porky smell started to arouse when it got cold so I really couldn't eat them. And they don't serve side dishes like other typical korean restaurants, all they had were yellow radish and some peanuts I think. The restaurant was filled with mostly students as the restaurant seems like they serve huge portions thus attracting younger crowd but if you really think about it, all their menu items aren't really that cheap and it really isn't quality food so I'd rather go somewhere better and spend my money. read more

I don't remember what everything is called, but all four dishes were delicious. The chicken/cheese katsu was crispy and tasty! It comes with a really good dipping sauce and a bunch of sides (cabbage, egg salad sandwich, macaroni, potato, etc) My other favorite dish was the rice balls. In order for me to properly review this place, we need to go back to the day when they first opened. They were located somewhere else and it looked like a hole in the wall type restaurant. They were known for their Donkatsu, fried pork cutlet doused in a gravy. It was so big that they served it on a platter rather than a plate. It came with a salad, mac and cheese salad, and rice. You got so much for your money and it was one of my favorite things to get when I was in Palisades Park. Fast forward to today. They relocated up a few streets and the place is a bit more modern. They still serve the Donkatsu, but it is not as big as I remember it. However, it is still big and comes with all the sides. They also added other things like fire chicken with cheese, ddukbogi with a bunch of fried stuff, creamy seafood pasta, and etc. I go here when I don't know what I want but I want Korean food. My brother and I enjoy sharing the Donkatsu. BUT! Now we get it topped with cheese. Okay, I will stop here because I haven't had breakfast yet and I am getting hungry. When in Jersey, try this place. Once a local gem for ridiculously large dishes for cheap.. turned into you can get 1-2 dishes good out of 3-4 you order. They also NEVER have kimbab available for delivery which is a shame. Their ddukbokki is just ok. On the sweeter side and some of the rice cake not cooked properly.
