Totoya is a Japanese sushi chain and so happy to see it now in Hawaii, with multiple locations in Aiea, Kaimuki, and Piikoi. We went to the Kaimuki location to see what the hype was about. I had their signature negitoro matsu bowl and it was absolutely divine! I was always hesitant to eat negitoro because of the negi or green onions in the name, but it tasted like a finer, soft ahi paste with ikura and uni. Delicious, although can be pricy at $30+ per entree. Highly recommend for authentic, negitoro experience.

Amazing amazing amazing! Service was amazing and everything ran so smoothly. The ambiance is calm, cozy, and intimate as you're sitting at the chef's bar. The food -- amazing. The soup pairing just makes sense and this is such a comforting meal for me since I LOVE sushi and miss Japan.

WOW, I love negitoro bowls now. First time trying one of these and also Totoya, and it was impressive. It felt like l went back to Japan again. It's only a counter seating style type and can fit around 15-20 people. But, it's very clean and organized. You can also see the workers making your dish! The customer service was great, they're very attentive and kind. I got the tame bowl and added a shoyu egg (you need to add it, it made the flavor so much more intense!) When I first ate it, it was like a punch of flavor. It was filled with umami as the salmon roe pops in your mouth. Every bowl order also comes with a miso soup! They have a 7 step guide on how to best eat the bowl and the sides, I approve! So good :)

Fresh fish at it's finest! Totoya offers fresh fish on rice in multiple ways! Menu posted outside for quick ordering process. Once you enter server is super friendly and will explain menu items, soup options, and offer suggestions if your unsure about what to order. Casual dining with seating around the chef, stop by for a Japanese dish in Kaimuki Town.

I came here with a party of five right at 11 AM on a weekday and no wait. I got the Tokujo and my husband got the Fukuju. We parked in a lot across the street. I devoured my entire bowl- rice and all. I got the shoyu egg sauce and the miso soup it comes with is incredible. My mother in law was with us and said the price was not bad for how much fish but not the same as Japan where she tried. For me, it was fantastic- fresh and flavorful. They care about quality of service and dining experience. I definitely want to come back here to get the Tokujo bowl again!

The negitoro bowls are amazing. The fish tastes fresh and even the miso soup is really good. You can tell they take pride in their bowls. I upgraded to the daily special salmon miso and it was 100 % worth it. They did not skimp. There were big chunks of salmon throughout. I like to add the egg yolk with shoyu because it melts into the bowl and gives everything this rich, creamy vibe. I'm also an ikura girl forever, so I added extra and no regrets. The pop and saltiness in each bite make it soo good. Service is super fast once you order, which I appreciate. The only downside is you have to wait outside in line and they do not take reservations, so peak hours can test your patience. But honestly... I still keep coming back. Fresh fish therapy is real.

I'm seriously drooling again just writing this review. Another amazing find thanks to Feed Mei Mei on YouTube! Dining at Totoya truly makes you feel like you've been transported back to Japan. We came for an early lunch and were lucky to grab the last couple of seats. They only have about 12-14 spots total, so it fills up quickly. I ordered the Nagomi bowl, which came with salmon, scallop, uni, shrimp, tuna, negitoro, and roe. My husband got the negitoro bowl and added snow crab. We both upgraded to the salmon miso soup, and it was so comforting and flavorful, definitely worth it. Each bowl comes with a couple pieces of nori, but you can request more for a small additional charge. And trust me, two pieces are not enough!. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and delicious. I only wish we had more time in Oahu to come back again, but we'll absolutely be returning on our next trip.

Reminds me of Japan!! Small little restaurant with bar seating. Menu is super simple and easy to follow and staff is very helpful if you have questions. Be prepared to wait or come early if you want to beat the line! Second time dining here and I can't complain! Every bowl is so good and the fish literally melts in your mouth.

I came around 12pm on a Wednesday and there were many open seats, though the restaurant is pretty small. There is only one guy making the bowls, so service is a tad slow. The tuna in the negitoro was fresh, but the portion sizes felt smaller than I thought they'd be. My boyfriend got the nagomi and the salmon, scallop, and shrimp it came with (in addition to the negitoro) weren't that fresh. I'm glad I got to try it, but I wouldn't wait over 30 minutes for this place.

The service was excellent--everyone was so polite and attentive throughout our visit. The food was absolutely delicious, and the fish tasted incredibly fresh! While it is a bit on the pricey side, the flavors definitely made it worth it. The egg mixture added so much richness to the bowl, and the salad was just as impressive. Their dressing was amazing! Can't wait to come back again!

Totoya was one of the highlights of my Hawaii trip. The fish is so fresh and they gave lots of it. Prices were also reasonable, especially coming from someone who lives in NYC. It's a smaller restaurant so try to put your name down early, but service is at least efficient so you're not waiting forever.

If you really enjoy negitoro or kaisen don bowls then you'll be very satisfied with Totoya. Every time I go, I'm transported back to a restaurant in Japan. From the greeting at the door to the layout of the booth you sit at. The service is also on par with a Japanese restaurant -- fast and attentive. I have gone multiple times and every time the quality of the seafood used in the bowls are always top notch. While the portions may not look like a lot at first, you will definitely feel full after. I highly recommend getting the shoyu egg and extra nori to accompany your negitoro bowl. As far as the miso soup, you might want to consider getting the upgraded crab or shrimp miso soup.

Go early to find parking and be prepared to wait in line. This place is small but worth the wait! The food is amazing!! Just go and try it for yourself! Oishi!!

As someone who used to work in the industry, I know its very difficult to get the first turn out by 7 so I was surprised they had the time option open in the first place. No big deal, it was a really busy night and the chef sent out croquettes as an apology for the wait. Our server was really nice and went over all the menus, there were three, fathers day specials, prefix tasting menu and normal everyday menu. My mom chose the prefix because it came with a calamansi key lime pie option for desert and she absolutely needed it. My dad and brothers ordered off the main menu, and I order off the specials. So we really did get quiet the variety. Overall the food was very creative. But the espresso martini stole the show for me. and the mud pie desert tasted exactly like my martini! SO YUM! The poke wasn't cut consistently, had some stringy pieces, and wasn't cold enough either. It seemed like it had been saturated for a while, too slimy. We've both been here plenty of times with our families over the years, and we'll come for both brunch and dinner depending on the occasion, but this visit was for dinner. Their menu was recently refreshed, so while a few favorites remain, there are quite a few new dishes to explore. I ordered the Watercress/Kale Salad with Grilled Chicken, while my friend went with the Mushroom Risotto topped with Shrimp. Both dishes were fresh, vibrant, and beautifully plated. Nothing overly complicated--just well-executed food that's consistently reliable. Of course, cocktails were a must. My friend paired her meal with the Lychee Hibiscus Martini, while I started with an Espresso Martini. I'm always on the hunt for a standout espresso martini, and this one definitely delivered--smooth, balanced, and one I'd happily order again. The biggest surprise of the night, though, was the Matcha Whey cocktail. After visiting countless cocktail lounges, I wasn't expecting this drink to stand out as much as it did--but it absolutely did. It looks light and almost transparent, so I wasn't exactly sure what I was expecting, but instead it had this incredibly smooth, creamsicle-like finish that was completely unexpected. Easily one of my favorite cocktails I've had in a long time. My only disappointment is that the bone marrow is no longer a item on the menu. It was one of my favorites, and I hope it makes a return someday. Et Al continues to be one of my favorite dependable spots on the island. It's the kind of place my family gives gift cards to for birthdays and special occasions--not just to me, but to other family members and loved ones as well--because it's somewhere we know we'll genuinely enjoy. Whether it's brunch, a casual girls' night, or a special occasion, it never disappoints. Looking forward to seeing what else comes with the new menu, but one thing's for sure--I'll definitely be back. One thing to note is the parking. There's a shared lot for the businesses in the shopping center, and I've never had much trouble finding a spot. That said, the layout can be a little awkward with its narrow lanes in the entrance and tight turns, so navigating through the lot can be more of a headache than actually parking. Fortunately, once you make it through, the convenience of having dedicated parking makes the visit pretty hassle-free.

I absolutely love the fish I receive from Ashley. You know it's fresh, it's sustainable and proceeds go directly to local fisherman. Over the past few months, I have received so many different types of fish. Some common fish I see are sashimi grade mahi mahi, ono, and ahi. Sometimes the fishermen will bring in invasive species & I always try to grab those. I've picked up whole kanpachi and whole opakapaka. It's always a fun challenge to try and clean & break down a whole fish lol. I think the craziest thing I picked up from Ashley was mahimahi head & bones. It was actually offered for free, I ended up making mahi dashi and then picked off of the meat for lunch. On Saturday I picked up some sashimi grade striped marlin & a whole octopus. I made a marlin carpaccio and grilled octopus for dinner :) I just love how Ashley and the team make it easy for us to be more connected with our local food source. Although it's a tad more expensive than buying fish at a convenience store, it is nice to know that all the fish is coming from our local fishermen from our shores.

First heard about this business from farmers market. They would have really good prices on fresh…read moreand frozen fish. This brick and mortar store is located right behind Mud Hen Water. Just turn into the parking lot and their entrance is at the end of it. Love their sashimi grade ahi. They have some good ahi Jerky, fish gumbo, etc. They even sell doggy treats. Best to call to see what fish they have as they do sell out from time to time. They are open Thursday - Sunday 10am-2pm.
