Had a reservation for 2 but where we were seated had a wobbly table unfortunately. Server was nice and never really had issues having water refills and our orders. Food didn't take too long either and was good. Very tomb raider feel to the place as well with all the forest tomb atmosphere to it. Overall was an ok experience even on a rainy day. I have never had a bad meal here! Tower cafe is a staple in midtown, and for good reason. The food is always on point and they have amazing service. Talakai stands out to me as the best server they have. Always kind, warm, welcoming, and hospitable. Some of our favorites are the pozole, the chorizo and eggs, and the French toast. A warning abt the toast though, you definitely will need to share with a friend! The portions in general are huge! The vibe is cool, and I the people are great. Everything we tried here was delicious! And they come in huge portions so definitely worth sharing. I ordered the Thai steak and as a medium rare girl, it was cooked perfectly. It was marinated in a plum glaze and came with a spiced chimichurri-like sauce on the side that was so good with the garlic mashed potatoes and crispy onions on the side. Their menu had so much that I would wanna come back to try one day especially their desserts. I appreciate how there was a free parking lot and how nice the ppl were and how fast the service was. This was a great experience as we travelled through Sacramento recently. Looking for breakfast spot and this filled the void immeasurably. Had to wait a bit but they have a beautiful tree covered park setting to wait in. We had our service dog and they provided a great seating area outside for us. The service was prompt and friendly with insight and good recommendations when asked. I ordered a skirt steak and eggs with chimichurri sauce and wife had a very unique brioche French toast. Highly recommend both. Sat on the patio which reminded me of an overgrown hippie pad. You must go inside to look at the decor and collection of unique pieces from around the world. Despite being so busy the food came out expeditiously. My sistah and I had bacon, eggs, blueberry cornmeal pancakes, and Thai steak. She said her steak was good and tender. I had never had cornmeal pancakes, and couldn't wait to try them. I wasn't disappointed. It wasn't grainy like you would think it might be because of the corn meal. You could taste just a hint of the cornmeal, and the butter, blueberries, and wonderfully thick syrup were delicious. The pancake was cold but after microwaving it was hot. The bacon slices were crisper than I prefer but it was tolerable. They undercooked my girl's eggs but brought replacements before she even noticed. Lol. Crystal was an absolute doll - very pleasant, genuinely friendly, present, and efficient. Thanks Crystal! Cons: We purchased carrot cake to go for ourselves and loved ones that was terribly salty and stale. I was so disappointed and surprised. The only other thing that could use improvement was the 30-minute wait to place your name on the list, and another 30 minutes to await a table. They don't take reservations for 2. Arrived Saturday morning 3/28 @9:15 am. Was seated right away.. Awesome start. Then it began. We were at the table (two top right to the left of the front doors as you walk in, next to windows) After about 8 mins we finally got some water. Now there were still about 4 open tables in our section and half the others were eating or just finishing, so it was not like she was in the weeds. Another 10 mins past, water is empty, and finally our server, she asked if we can get started with some coffee, like we just sat down or something. I was like, sure but we are ready to order. Order in, coffee delivered, water refilled. Doing OK..... Food arrives. And as always food is AWESOME... This has nothing to do with the food. We finish eating and I put my fork and knife o plate side by side to signal I am finished. Server walks by 6 different times, never checks in on us after food, etc. Finally she arrives she ask, can I get you anything else, I say No we are done and she says ok I will get your check. Still leaves the plates. Brings the check, and I give her my CC. She returns with bill processed and sets it on table and to my shock she still does not take one of the three plates. I was like you have to be kidding me. So i have to maneuver everything on the table so I have room to sign the bill. Please retrain your staff. Plates should be cleared and checking on a table needs to be a top priority. read more

Tower Cafe is a destination brunch spot next to the historic, Tower Theater. I came for Sunday brunch and was quoted a 45 minute wait. The wait time was accurate, and I appreciated that the host offered drinks in the bar to pass the time. When our table was ready, we were seated inside and waited an additional ten minutes for service. The server was apologetic as she took our orders. I had the blackberry basil margarita and the Louisiana poboy special. Both were excellent! The drink had a great infusion of flavor and tasted strong. The poboy came with a crispy catfish filet finished off with lettuce, tomato, and pickle. I think Tower is my favorite brunch restaurant in Sacramento. I personally love the eggs benedict with their cornbread, so freaking good! I love that they also have so many culture dishes and I can't wait to try them. The service is pretty quick and the servers are really nice. I remember I had a family member try it for the first time and they swore it was the best French toast they ever had in their life. I would say I also agree with that statement. The Tower Café is a comfortable restaurant Café with an apple menu of food drink drinks, and pastries. Today I went there after over a decade of not going. I found the outdoor seating area to be very quaint and beautiful with all the vegetation and trees and the sitting area beyond the café quite beautiful as well with lots of benches and privacy areas. It's been several years since I've come to this establishment, and decided to come for a birthday breakfast. We arrived approximately 10:30 AM on a weekday and the entire outdoor patio area was full.. They did have some seating for two people inside. The decor side is a sensory overload for sure. Very colorful and statues everywhere we ordered the egg bacon and French toast. The French toast was decent on the sweet side. If you're not prepared for sweetness overload, do not over this. The eggs were basic the bacon was good. We also ordered the chorizo scramble with potatoes, which also include a side of refried beans. Unfortunately, the service was mediocre, and they seem like they were just too busy for the amount of people they had in the restaurant on a weekday. The tables inside are small had a noise level was high. The overall experience is just too many people and too crowded. read more

I love Tower Cafe. I have been here many times and it's always worth the wait. However, on Sunday I went for brunch and had the special corned beef hash with eggs. Huge portion and delicious. Unfortunately, it was the main thing I ate before I started getting uncontrollably sick for over 24 hours to the point where I went to the hospital. I'm almost certain I got food poisoning. This is a beautiful restaurant, very vibrant and charming on the inside. I felt the interior had a lot of culture and was very inviting. On a warmer day, the outdoor seating area is quite relaxing. There is a small parking lot behind the location so it's not too hard to find. To get to the front of the restaurant, you'd have to walk through this little "jungle forest" and around a fountain. The food was plentiful and flavorful. I have never had the madame Cristo and I only ate half because I was already full! My friend had the pancakes and they were extremely fluffy! I did not get to try any desserts because I was so full! The service was friendly, but they did put us in around the corner and we were greeted by the server about 13 minutes later. Have't eat at Tower cafe for a long while. As much as I love Tower cafe for their deco, service & uniqueness. I was kinda disappointed with their Earth burger (see pic). Somehow the flavor of it wasn't all that, the patty start falling apart. And the curry cashew sauce was quite sweet. Worst of all, they put it on a yellow plate . So it doesn't help with the appearance either. The chocolate mousse tastes much better than the burger. It was more dense & not fluffy. The chocolate was rich, but not the best grade of chocolate. You check in with the hostess to put your name down, if it's a really busy day then they'll text you when your table is ready and you can go hang out in the outdoor plaza area. Our go to is the patio seating, you're surrounded by greenery and feel like you're in a little forest. The outdoor seating is perfect for a sunny day, and has heaters for cooler days. I've never been disappointed eating a meal at Tower Cafe. I met a friend after work and we enjoyed our drinks and some yummy food in their courtyard. I always feel like I am not in Sacramento as if I've been transported to another country when dining in the courtyard. I'm not sure if it's being surrounded by trees, the fountain, etc. It's just the perfect spot to relax and eat delicious food. The menu has so many food options. Unfortunately, everything tasted bland and over-fried. The fish came in large hunks with almost no seasoning, and the batter was heavy and greasy. The Monte Cristo also lacked flavor and didn't really taste like much of anything. Even the potato salad was odd -- large chunks of egg and full pickle slices throughout, which made the texture and flavor pretty off-putting. Why oh why oh WHY do you change a good thing Tower?? They've been around forever, and we all know the ambiance is unmatched. Lately they've switched some stuff and it's been weighing on me. Long time guest and unless I hear it changes back, probably done with so many other options available. French fries used to be unique and the best, but they changed recently and ALL BAD. Like they went for something of lesser quality. They switched the burger a while ago too, and it went from this really amazing texture to something really boring and dense -- like it's cheap ingredients now.
