I have never had a bad meal here! Tower cafe is a staple in midtown, and for good reason. The food is always on point and they have amazing service. Talakai stands out to me as the best server they have. Always kind, warm, welcoming, and hospitable. Some of our favorites are the pozole, the chorizo and eggs, and the French toast. A warning abt the toast though, you definitely will need to share with a friend! The portions in general are huge! The vibe is cool, and I the people are great. This was my first time trying to Café. My partner insisted I give this a try since she swears by it ha ha, the food definitely did not disappoint. Coffee was great. The customer service was also really good. Loved the interior vibe and ambience of the place. I would definitely come back unfortunately I didn't take any pictures at the time I went to here and I'm a little late with the review . I had the Will rancheros which really good with the side of bacon because you can't forget that for breakfast of course I even tried a slice of their famous French toast, which hit the spot. Arrived Saturday morning 3/28 @9:15 am. Was seated right away.. Awesome start. Then it began. We were at the table (two top right to the left of the front doors as you walk in, next to windows) After about 8 mins we finally got some water. Now there were still about 4 open tables in our section and half the others were eating or just finishing, so it was not like she was in the weeds. Another 10 mins past, water is empty, and finally our server, she asked if we can get started with some coffee, like we just sat down or something. I was like, sure but we are ready to order. Order in, coffee delivered, water refilled. Doing OK..... Food arrives. And as always food is AWESOME... This has nothing to do with the food. We finish eating and I put my fork and knife o plate side by side to signal I am finished. Server walks by 6 different times, never checks in on us after food, etc. Finally she arrives she ask, can I get you anything else, I say No we are done and she says ok I will get your check. Still leaves the plates. Brings the check, and I give her my CC. She returns with bill processed and sets it on table and to my shock she still does not take one of the three plates. I was like you have to be kidding me. So i have to maneuver everything on the table so I have room to sign the bill. Please retrain your staff. Plates should be cleared and checking on a table needs to be a top priority. read more

Pretty solid place to come but be prepared for a rush if on the typical Sunday brunch window. Waits can be up to 1-2 hrs but from experience, you can typically get a table sooner. The interior of the restaurant is pretty well done and the menu has quite a bit of variety for whatever you may be craving. I'd highly recommend getting the French toast, and also the tuna melt is a sleeper item. The service was pretty quick once you get the table, and food comes out hot and fresh. My friend and I went here on a Saturday around 4:10pm recently and there was no wait! We were allowed to seat ourselves since the restaurant was empty at that time. We ordered the Baja Crab Melt w/ Potato Salad and the Borracho Burger w/ Fries. Then we got our food and I loved how large the portions are since I wasn't expecting that at first. I also loved how stuffed the crab melt was. It's nice how they give you the option to choose what side you want to go with your entree. I knew I had to get the potato salad and I liked how thick it is. I'd recommend this place! I felt the crab melt tasted fresh at first and I liked how stuffed it was. I love this place! A charming oasis in the midst of busy downtown streets in a bustling city! There was a half hour wait on a Friday late morning and the time went by pretty fast. We passed the time and got guava mimosas from the bar while we waited outside for our table. It was super packed inside, vibrant colors filled the walls and ceiling and people looked happy and enjoying their meals and smiles everywhere. The guava mimosa wasn't as sweet as I expected it to be and the bartender was nice enough to pour more guava juice; that helped a bit, I just don't think this is one of those 'sweet' drinks. We got a text and were lucky enough to sit out in the patio on the side on this beautiful summer day. What a pretty garden surrounded by huge trees that covered the patio and provided shade with the sun still being able to come through, and cute tables. Loved dining out there, I felt like I stepped into a book, one minute I was on the sidewalk waiting for our table, and the next I walked through the wrought iron arbor and I immediately got transported to somewhere else magical. And the food was delicious! I love mole which is hard to find; they had the best Oaxacan Eggs Mole! I opted to get chicken on the side and I was in heaven. I love Tower Cafe. I have been here many times and it's always worth the wait. However, on Sunday I went for brunch and had the special corned beef hash with eggs. Huge portion and delicious. Unfortunately, it was the main thing I ate before I started getting uncontrollably sick for over 24 hours to the point where I went to the hospital. I'm almost certain I got food poisoning. Restaurant was super busy, after being seated i waited over 10 minutes before my waiter greeted me, upon finally greeting me, he said he had water on the way. I never received any water. I ordered a medium rare steak with over easy eggs. When i got the steak it was well done. No pink at all inside. I didn't want to wait another 15 plus minutes for my waiter to acknowledge me or food to be sent back so i ate it, flavors were good. Such a cool place! We weren't even hungry but after spending the night in Sacramento and getting so many recommendations to come here for breakfast, we decided to give it a try before heading home. Rating is 3.5 stars. I am not sure what the hype is at this place? It is good but not something I would frequent a lot. My in laws love this place and eats here often. Maybe what I got just didn't do it for me. I'll have to try it again another time. The Monte cristo sandwich was not good the ham was sweet and salty and the egg on top made it less desirable for me. I probably should stick with the french toast. The steak was cooked perfectly and I didn't taste the Thai flavoring. The enchiladas Oaxaca was yummy yum yum. I think this would get 4 stars. It was an hour wait for a party of 5, but there's plenty of seating underneath beautiful Japanese maples and other foliage along with cute water fountains throughout the waiting area. It had the just the right amount of dressing, and the mangos were perfectly ripe and added a nice brightness that cut through the sweet, salty, and umami flavor of the dressing. It was a good portion, and I would definitely come back again just for this salad. The French toast was also divine. Crispy and buttery on the outside with a nice custardy texture on the inside. Hidden gem! I have been living in Sacramento for almost a year and a half now and I went to the tower café for the first time. I am shocked that I have not been here before! First, I love the innovative menu and the combination of menu items! We ordered the Eggs Tower, Monte Cristo, and drinks! I am going to start with the drinks first because I had something that I have never ended tried before. I ordered the Raspberry Sake drink (I believe it was called a raspberry bloom). The base of the drink was sparkling sake, which was combined with a house-made raspberry syrup. I highly recommend if you like mimosas with a fruitier flavor. The Eggs Tower is an eggs benedict, but the base is cornbread instead of an English Muffin. The different bottom made the texture much more pleasant and the overall dish more flavorable! The Monte Cristo was just as thought as the other dishes but I did not enjoy bechamel sauce on it. It was really thick and kind of bland, which is why I took off one star. The nice thing is the Tower Cafe has nice outdoor seating that is large enough to accommodate groups. What an incredible place! It's like being transported to another planet that specializes in the best French Toast you've ever had. I could literally spend hours just walking around looking at all the art work. I recently visited Ripleys Belive It or Not in San Francisco and they didn't have as much to see. I hate writing negative reviews, but this meal was honestly one of the most disappointing I've had in years. I ordered the fried zucchini, fish & chips, and the Monte Cristo. Unfortunately, everything tasted bland and over-fried. The fish came in large hunks with almost no seasoning, and the batter was heavy and greasy. The Monte Cristo also lacked flavor and didn't really taste like much of anything. Even the potato salad was odd -- large chunks of egg and full pickle slices throughout, which made the texture and flavor pretty off-putting.
