Firstly, I'm confused. This restaurant advertises as Portuguese cuisine, it plays salsa and Latin music at the restaurant while serving halal food with no beef or pork? Pro: the grilled chicken and wings are very flavorful and delicious (we ordered lemon herb sauce) also order 3 wings with mild. These were good as well. Cons: they will not survive if they continue with the small portion sizes. Rice and corn are cheap so why not give a little more. As pictured , they were pretty small for a "platter" combo meant for "1-2 people". The corn was cold. The rice was ok, but spicy which I didn't care for. We also ordered hummus. It didn't come with the pita bread as stated on the menu AND it was chunky, not smooth. And wasn't too tasteful. If we were to ever come back, it would ONLY be to order chicken and nothing else. The chicken used for the tenders and the sandwich was the same style and had a bit of a lemon taste but I loved it. The chicken tenders are not breaded though so keep that in mind. I've always wanted to try Peri Peri chicken, and I was pumped for this place to officially open when I saw the sign come up. The establishment is housed where the old Wing Zone used to be (RIP) and has plenty of standard and bar like seating. The girl who greeted me was very nice and friendly, and I'm so glad she gave me her personal opinion on the heat of the sauces (more about that later). I ordered a 1/4 breast and wing, medium heat, with a side of rice that ran me about $8 to go. My food took about 5-6 minutes to be prepped and packed, but the only customers in the store were a a family who were already through their meal and myself. While I waited, I perused the menu. They have wings, "family" meals, burgers, apps and other chicken options. Everything is reasonably priced, and they have some veg options. The interior is very chic and cool with a cute chalkboard advertisement. My food was nicely packed when I opened my bag: chicken was in a Whole Foods type container and rice was in a plastic container. I wish the rice was in a cardboard container too, but it's okay. It came with a side of Peri Peri sauce and 2 ranch cups, which I was a little confused about. I tried the rice first, and it tasted exactly like biriyani (Indian rice dish). I got very excited LOL. The chicken was moist, generous and tender. I was nervous from the reviews on here that showed chicken with blood near the bone. I'm happy to report that I ate my chicken all the way down to the bone (yeah it was that good), and not a drop of blood in sight! Phew. Now onto the sauce. AMAZING. It was a party in my mouth. The medium was SPICY! I'm glad I didn't go with my gut and gotten the hot or else I would have been dying. Thanks cashier for tip! I was dipping my chicken in the extra sauce for additional heat, not that I needed it. The skin was soft and delicious, but the SAUCE makes this meal the best part!! I later realized the ranch was a cooling factor, but I felt it didn't go with the overall theme. Perhaps a white sauce like Juicy Platters would be more appropriate. On this MLK Day, I finally got an opportunity to visit this Portuguese/Halal place not far from the house. I was greeted by Bea who has given me some wonderful information. Peri peri is the Swahili word for strong pepper. Many years ago, Portuguese sailors traveled to Africa in search of new flavors. They discovered bird's eye chili pepper. Two years ago, Tribos was opened at this location where the corporate main office exists. They opened a 2nd location in Jersey City last year. Being this was my first time, she told me that everything is made fresh as well as their 2 sauces for the food. I ordered the lunch special as it's not on their menu for $10 consisting of a quarter white meat (breast and wing) chicken with jasmine rice and a can of soda. One needs to choose which sauce to use to cook with the accompanying meal and chose the lemon and herb. The additional sauces made from scratch can be used on any meats such as burgers or lamb chops. The white sauce has a garlic taste. The orange sauce is their chili sauce and has a kick. The lemon chicken had the right amount of lemon seasoning throughout and very tasty as well as the jasmine rice. The parking lot and store front are in the back of the small mall by Dynasty Buffet. One can't see it from Market Street. Bea told me that this place gets crowded especially on weekends starting Thursday night. The weekday lunch hour is manageable and will get a table. Both the fries and cassava seemed extra hard. They were better eaten cold. The mayo corn lacked the flavor I was expecting, but were good with the sauce. I agree that the price is a little high for the amount of food you get, but not outrageous. The place is clean and staff is friendly. I first tried peri peri chicken in australia and loved it, so i was excited to see a restaurant open near by. The original platter was a great bang for your buck. You get a whole chicken and two large sides for $25. Can definitely feed at least 3 people. We got rice and yuca fries as the sides, both very good. You got exactly what you expected. The chicken looker amazing! And it tasted pretty good as well. It was tender, juicy, and well spiced. One thing that brought down my appetite was that when i was nearing the end of my chicken i saw blood.. total turn off, but it is a new restaurant so im sure they are finding their groove. They were also very busy, so maybe that played a factor. What i really loved was the GARLIC SAUCE. i would put that ish on everything!!!! It amplifed the entire meal for me. From what I can gather they cook the chicken ahead of time (way ahead) and I don't mean like roast it - just like straight up bake it - so it seems. Then they throw it on the grill for like 1 minute when you order it. Ordered the Quarter White (FYI this is just a piece of chicken breast) with medium sauce. The chicken was ice cold on the inside. Definitely cooked way ahead of time and thrown in the fridge to reheat. Also ordered the wings - absolutely disgusting. The skin and fat on the outside was not rendered or crispy. It was honesty slimy and cold on the inside. As a note - the sauce, even the medium one, tastes like an insane amount of lime/lemon. The corn was stale and inedible - maybe just sitting out all day after being cooked. Hard like a rock. Asked to speak to the manager - older lady from the back - who could care less. Literally showed her the chicken, how it wasn't cooked, and skin still gross and floppy - didn't even bat an eye. Could care less. Told me it's cooked, they cook it twice then Just grabbed my plate and took it inside. ZERO ****s given. Also, fun side note. I drove over an hour, visited on Saturday August 3rd, and faced the rudest behavior from the new older gentleman cashier. After ordering nearly $100 of food I asked for for additional white sauce and Peri Peri seasoning, as I've always done over the years since a single container of white sauce that comes with the order is not sufficient for that much food. The cashier proceeded to be extremely rude as if I was asking them for a handout. I had my entire family waiting on their meal so I ended up paying ~$7 to buy an extra container of white sauce and seasoning instead of wasting time arguing. The cashier is not suited for a customer facing role and needs to learn how to be polite. We were excited to try Tribos in Saddle River based on positive Yelp reviews. We grew up eating Spaniard/Portuguese food so we had high hopes of an innovative take on the cuisine. When you arrive be aware that the entrance is actually in the back. It took us some time to figure out the entrance and parking All tables had utensils, napkins and their hot/white sauce on each table. They provided complementary chicken soup while you waited for your order. We decided on a whole chicken, 2 sides (Perimayo corn and yucca fries) and Mexican cokes. We ordered 1/2 the chicken with medium spice and the other extra hot. I was forewarned about the spice level. The extra spicy was uniquely delicious in flavor but not spicy for me. I think that they gave us the lemon herb chicken instead of the medium spice. It was also very delicious and seasoned perfectly! I asked for a side of the extra hot sauce to dip my chicken but they said they don't give out more sauce to just use the one on the table. The hot sauce on the table would clash with flavors of the extra spicy chicken. My one complaint was the chicken was served room temperature! By the time we finished the chicken it was cold. Too bad because it was good! The Perimayo corn was also served room temperature. The sweetness and floral taste were unpleasant and would skip it. The yucca fries were the star of the dish because they were seasoned and cooked properly. It was one of the only items that was cooked fresh and served hot.
