I came to this location for my birthday with my family. The food was outstanding. Not one bite of food was left. The adults ordered curry (I had it with beef, husband asked for tofu). Our experience at True Food in Pasadena was terrific! Our server Stevie was so charming and on point that you can not really ask for anything more from a server. This place is just beautiful! Way nicer than the Santa Monica location. It has a nice outdoor patio plus two sides of indoor spaces (I can totally see someone renting out one side for a private party). The service is unbeatable. One of our interns said she looked at applying to be a waitress a while back and that the process is actually much more difficult than other places. You need to know a lot about their food, which shows in the quality of people they have working there. We came for lunch. There are a few lots around that are free with the first 90 minutes, and they also have valet for around $6. We ordered the edamame dumplings because they are always delicious. Next time I'd like to get the hummus. I ordered the tofu red chili noodles. It was the perfect size for lunch and I left feeling full but not stuffed. Everything you order is delicious. My friends and I went her for dinner around 9:00 pm on a Saturday night and luckily for us, there wasn't much of a wait-I'd say five minutes max. Outside there's a huge fireplace and you can sit around it to keep warm, and the whole outside area was dimmed with just a few lights giving it a very warm and inviting feel. The same is said with the inside seating area, it's a nice place for an intimate dinner and it wasn't too loud inside either like most restaurants on a Saturday night. Our waitress was extremely nice and helpful, and was able to answer any questions we had regarding the menu. I ordered the red chili noodles with chicken and it was really tasty! The veggies were fresh and crisp, the noodles were the perfect texture, and the sauce was flavorful. The only thing is they kind of overdid it on the sauce so it was a bit salty but nothing too overbearing. I would recommend it if you're craving a stir fry noodle The items on the menu are a bit pricey for what they are serving but I do feel like the quality of the food does make up for it. It's definitely not a "bang for your buck" kind of restaurant but if you're looking for a nice (the decor is really clean and modern looking) brunch place or a quiet place for dinner, this place would be worth checking out. I wouldn't mind going back because there are some items I am intrigued about (their pizzas looks amazing ) but overall the menu isn't anything special, like I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. I ordered a pizza and when it arrived, it looked fantastic, but it turned out to be lukewarm and the crust was WAY over cooked. I feel like someone else sent a pizza back and they decided to throw my toppings on, heat it up a bit, and give it to me. I would've liked to have said something, but I was hungry and no one came back to check on me. Had lunch with friends here. All of us loved everything we ate and drank. The honey truffle flatbread was delicious. My friend had some kind of fish (sea bass?) and made a comment about wanting to lick her plate it was that good. Another friend had the spaghetti squash bowl. I would give 4.5 stars if I could. The food was VERY tasty and of high quality. I am in love with the veggie hummus which was profoundly better than the average hummus. The olive, tomato, onion, and feta cheese (which I don't normally like), complemented the hummus for a perfect blend of flavor. Then the cucumber salad (which was made with a vinaigrette yet did not taste like vinegar in the least, which is a good thing) was simply divine. I devoured these two dishes and left nothing on the plate. Even after eating my main dish, a grass-fed burger, I considered reordering those two plates to eat them for dessert. ;-P My burger was very good but the flavor wasn't as remarkable as the prior dishes (possibly because I ordered lettuce wrap instead of the bun which may have altered the originally planned flavor combination). But my date remarked about 4 times how good the burger was and said it was his favorite of all the dishes. The only thing I would suggest for improvement is helping customers understand why they need to wait 10 minutes to eat when there are plenty of open tables. I was famished and slightly annoyed by this. Also, we asked for our burgers well done and medium well, and they were redder than expected. I think maybe the cook did that to preserve all the nutrition in the 100% grass-fed organic meat, which I can understand. But for someone who is really sensitive to that they may not have mentally walked themselves through it the way I did. Yum! I love how this restaurant has vegetarian and vegan options in addition to regular meat options. The restaurant is very beautiful and has a lot of plants, inside and outside. When I came with my friends the hostess was gone so we were quite lost. However when we were seated the customer service was great. I got the vegan pizza (forgot the name) but it's the only vegan pizza option and it was amazing. The crust was crispy and chewy but not too thin or thick. It was topped off with kale, almond ricotta "cheese," squash, and cranberries. I usually am able to eat a lot but the portion of this was big! I had 3 slices leftover. The only downside of my experience was the wait time between ordering and receiving the food. The wait for the food was pretty long. OK. The staff and decor are lovely (including the driftwood chandeliers that adorn the high ceilings, plus natural wood and all-around open-air environment). And I'm guessing that their salads are great? But breakfast is another story. I've always said that it's really hard to mess-up eggs. And all I wanted were some eggs. Everywhere else in the hood had a 40+ minute wait, so we decided to give this restaurant a go. We both ordered the garden scramble. The eggs arrived - a bowl of unseasoned scrambled eggs, topped with a random assortment of badly seasoned vegetables (including brussels sprouts?), and everything was cold. We asked the waiter to have them at least put our dishes through a microwave. Instead, the waiter returned with them a few minutes later, now clearly having been put under a broiler and downright charred (while the eggs were still lukewarm at best). It was basically overpriced and under-inspired cafeteria food. Honestly, the "True" sign on the wall that was made out of broccoli looked (and probably tasted) more appealing. Because I like to sandwich things in the positive, I'll close here by saying that my fresh chamomile tea was delightful :). read more
